Murs Talks Reviving The Paid Dues Hip Hop Festival In Los Angeles

LIL WAYNE & AB-SOUL TAPPED AS HEADLINERS

(AllHipHop News) From 2006-2013, Hip Hop devotees were blessed to see live performances from some of the culture’s leading acts as well as rising rhymers.

It has been four years since the last Paid Dues Festival, and its organizer is ready to bring back the popular music event.

“I haven’t seen anyone succeed where we failed, so I’ve learned that I can be confident, that I bring something unique to hip-hop,” Murs told Billboard. “There have been a lot of people trying to fill that void but [they] haven’t been able to do it successfully. Paid Dues is still, sadly enough, the only festival breaking artists.”

The 2017 Paid Dues – set to take place in Los Angeles on September 16 & 17 – is being headlined by Young Money leader Lil Wayne and TDE’s Ab-Soul.

“Wayne inspired a lot of what you see going on in music and he’s been forced, because of reasons beyond his control, kind of like Paid Dues, to sit out for a few years,” explained Murs.

The Captain California album creator added, “So for us to be able to come back together – and hopefully Wayne will be able to release Tha Carter V soon – he’s at least getting out there more. His journey has been very similar to Paid Dues.. .and I like that similarity.”

On Ab-Soul, Murs stated, “He’s someone who literally worked his way from the bottom of the flyer to the top of the flyer. I couldn’t have chosen a better headliner.”

The line-up also includes ¡Mayday!, Raekwon & Ghostface, Jay Electronica, Freddie Gibbs, Nipsey Hussle, PRhyme, Westside Gunn & Conway, and The Cool Kids.
