Bean Sigel Goes “Grim Reaper” On Meek

(AllHipHop News) Beanie Sigel isn’t really on of the rappers that you should test. The Philly rap vet ended a new diss song towards Meek Mill with “nrecords / I’m coming.”

The new song, “I’m Coming,” is not a full diss towards Meek and his Dreamchasers, but it is potent nonetheless.

Beanie’s characteristic voice has changed since being shot and losing a lung, but it makes the song even more potent as he is forced to deliver the shade in more creative ways.

The song premiered on Power 105.1 on Thursday morning through DJ Envy. Listen to it below.

A Conversation With Angie Martinez On The 2Pac Biopic, The State Of Hip Hop Media & Her Own Legacy

(AllHipHop Features) Because of her successful three decade career in entertainment, Angie Martinez has been dubbed the “Voice Of New York” and is undoubtedly one of the most prominent media figures in Hip Hop culture.

Martinez is lending her popularity and prestige to help raise awareness and inspire action for a positive social impact around education.

The Power 105 radio personality will host the TIDAL X: 1015 charity concert on October 15.

As a Grammy-nominated performer in her own right, Angie is set to share the stage that night in NYC with superstars such as Beyoncé, Ms. Lauryn Hill, T.I., Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys, Common, and more.

Besides teaming with Tidal to introduce the performers at the Barclays Center later this month, Martinez’s 2016 had another major moment. The Roc Nation signee also released her New York Times best-selling book My Voice: A Memoir.

I spoke with Angie over the phone a few weeks back. We got the chance to chat about her memoir, the forthcoming 2Pac biographical movie All Eyez On Me, and how she wants to be remembered.

Congratulations on the success of your memoir.

Thank you. I’m super proud of it.

With the success of the book and with all the amazing stories in it, have you thought about transferring that into a biopic or documentary?

This has come up a few times. I have had some conversations with people and expressed some interest in doing that with the book. I’m totally open to it.

I spent a lot of time on that book. It wasn’t just something that I slapped together. To me, it’s like my baby. I shared the story of my life, my career, and my lessons.

If I were ever to translate that into another medium – whether it be TV, movie or doc – I want to give the same amount of love. I’m totally open to it, and there has been some interest. But nothing that I have to announce yet.

MyVoice_Digital_Final[2]

Is there any interest in doing another cookbook?

Maybe at some point. That was a book I wanted to do for myself and have exist in the world. I met this amazing chef that had something to offer in that space. I really wanted to put some of my thoughts and his amazing recipes out there.

That was more of a collaborative project. Not to say that I wouldn’t be open to it again, but I think it was a one time thing. But who knows?

One of the most talked about parts of your memoir is the section covering your interview with 2Pac. There’s an actress playing you in the 2Pac biopic. Have you had the chance to see the movie yet?

I haven’t. I kept trying to do it. I know some people that have seen it, and they told me great things. I was actually in L.A., and I tried to get with [director] Benny Boom because he was going to do a screening for me. We just weren’t able to get it done.

The girl that’s playing me [Lian Amado] – her role is super tiny, so I’m not worried about it. [laughs] I don’t know what it is specifically. Nobody has said, but I think it’s a tiny part.

I heard nothing but good things about it which makes me very happy. That’s a story that has to be told the right way. But I hear they got it right.

I heard it from some solid people. People whose opinions on the matter I would trust. Big Boy from L.A. and Snoop Dogg spoke to me about it.

The 20th anniversary of his passing just happened. I read that you said you often reflect on Pac and in particular that interview you had with him. Did he cross your mind over the last  few weeks? What was going through your head about his legacy?

You know what’s interesting? One of the things we talk about a lot is Pac’s legacy, how much it still resonates, and how much people are still connected to him. When you think about it, he was 24 when he passed. Do you know how much life he lived in 24 years?

He lived a life in 24 years that most people don’t live in 50 years. When you think about how young he was…. when we were coming up, we didn’t look at him as young. We just looked at him as one of us.

Now when you’re older and look back, it’s like “Wow. He was 24 and did all that.” It’s really fascinating and unimaginable. It makes you wonder about what he would have been able to accomplish with just a few more years.

What are your thoughts about this ongoing conversation on the difference between 90’s Hip Hop and today’s rap music?

I’m not one to be like, “Oh, it was better then. Or it was better this time. Or the 80’s were better. Or the 90’s were better. Or the 2000’s were better.” I just think Hip Hop is a fluid thing that is always changing and evolving.

There are moments when I was a little kid listening to stuff in the 80’s that I thought was the illest. There are moments in the 90’s that I thought were the illest. Or the 2000’s. Even some of it from now, I like. I don’t necessarily like to compare too much. I feel like it’s forever evolving.

I like to ask people about their thoughts on the strengths of Hip Hop media now and what are areas where we could probably work on to improve on what Hip Hop media produces.

I did this press run with my book, so I met some great people. I had some amazing interviews with people that love the culture. Ultimately, it has to be rooted in that. You have to love the culture. You can’t just be in it because you’re trying to get your Instagram followers up.

It has to start with a love for the culture, because that’s what takes it further by asking the deeper question or writing with passion and conviction. If you’re just trying to get some social media numbers or something, that ain’t where the substance is going to come from.

I’m hopeful for it. It’s like anything else. It’s easier for people to get in, so it’s a lot of fluff. But also, within there, there are gems. There are people who love the culture, have something to say, have an opinion, and care.

I think it’s up to those people to go extra hard and make sure their voices are the loudest. And it’s the responsibility of the community to support those journalists to make sure there are great stories being told all the time.

It’s harder now too, because artists have their own outlets. They don’t necessarily need the journalists. You can say whatever you want to say on your own blog posts. So I think it’s a little bit harder to develop a brand with some substance, but it’s also more necessary than ever.

Lupe Fiasco put out an hour-long solo podcast celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Food & Liquor. He basically said, “I don’t have to do an interview. I’ll just talk and fans will listen to this. I don’t need to sit down and have a conversation with a journalist.

But then it’s also one-sided for him. Nobody is challenging him. He’s only offering what he thinks people want to know. I would think you would want somebody to push you and challenge you a little bit. That’s how you get to the goods.

Would you like to see more high-profile artists do interviews?

Yeah, of course. I think even if you’re very choosy and choose one or two. It’s important for artists to really matter too. What’s your legacy going to be? You have to be pushed a little sometimes. Your story has to be told from an outside voice, not just your own. For that reason, I think the journalist is always going to be important.

You mentioned the word “legacy.” What do you want your legacy to be?

I think I’m still working on it. I think I’m still creating it. There’s so much more I want to do. I definitely want my legacy to be somewhat grounded in that I was somebody that loved the culture and had its best interest at heart.

Someone who always tried to do the right thing. Someone who pushed myself further and in turn pushed other people further. I think also something about giving people a voice. When I first started there were not a lot of platforms for rap artists to tell their story. That’s part of what I loved and still love about what I do.

Vince Staples Defends Christian Mother That Criticized His “Norf Norf” Song

(AllHipHop News) One Christian mother from Oklahoma is not feeling Vince Staples’ single “Norf Norf” at all.

Krystle Partido became a viral sensation this week after posting an 11-minute video to the web where she was ranting about the Summertime ’06 song playing on her town’s radio station.

She even took time to read some of the lines from “Norf Norf” on camera before breaking down over children possibly hearing the track.

“I could not believe what I was hearing. This is on our local radio station. This crap is being played,” said Partido. “I couldn’t even believe the words that I was listening to. As a mom, it infuriated me. Like why is this one here? Obviously the cuss words were bleeped out, but I’m not stupid.”

The collective internet then began bashing the woman by posting memes and remix videos making fun of her.

Partido also faced negative reactions from social media users for repeating curse words and the word “n-gga” in front of her young child that was in the background.

However, Staples is not jumping on the backlash train. The Long Beach, California representative apparently defended Partido in an interview with The Independent.

“I don’t really have much to say about the video. I don’t think it’s funny at all,” said Staples. “It’s not right to attack someone over their stance, their opinions, and their religion. I think that’s very immature.”

“We already have a lot of issues between black and white relations in this country based on misunderstandings,” Staples is quoted saying. “In my eyes, she doesn’t look like a racist. She doesn’t look like a mean person. But it’s not very responsible for people to try to take that and jump, looking for some sort of commentary on these issues [in the community].”

However, Staples later claimed on Twitter the author of the article misquoted him, and the Def Jam recording artist further clarified the point he was attempting to make.

Meek Mill Takes Credit For The “Philly Cypher” At The BET Hip Hop Awards

(AllHipHop News) The city of Philadelphia was heavily represented at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards cyphers.

State Property members Peedi Crakk, Neef, Omillio Sparks, Freeway, and Beanie Sigel reunited during the “Philly Cypher” for the ceremony.

Fellow Philadelphia native Meek Mill claimed he was directly responsible for that rhyming session coming together.

“I’m the one who pitched a Philly cypher and getting Philly more involved with BET,” Meek wrote on Instagram. “Alley ooping a n-gga that’s throwing shade but still catching blessings!”

The cyphers were recorded prior to Meek and Beanie Sigel having a very public falling out.

The two rappers have been taking shots at other on social media and in interviews for several weeks.

BY THE WAY…… I’m the one who pitched a philly cypher and getting philly more involved with @bet Alley ooping a n#%ga that’s throwing shade but still catching blessings!

Someone Hacked Young Thug’s Instagram!

Young Thug was the latest victim of celebrity social media hacks.

Kids it has to stop going down in the DM and your passwords may have to be a little bit tougher! But hey, hackers will hack!

Earlier this week we witnessed J. Cole’s Twitter account get hacked. It looks like someone else had time on their hands and wanted to get at Thugger.

Someone posted photos of Young Thug and a woman whose face had been cropped out with a caption that read “my babies”.

They then added another post calling out Travis Scott with a caption that read “btch ngga dead.”

It was pretty obvious that Thugger was hacked, but not before the hacker posted a few more crazy posts before the hack was realized.

I would be curious to know what was in those DMs though!

Charlamagne Tha God Says Philly Rappers Are Fake!

Charlamagne Tha God is not here for Philly rappers at the moment!

According to Charlamagne, he feels that Philly rappers have no loyalty, and their loyalty can be bought off by who is providing them opportunity at the time. All he hears is one week it’s Philly unity and the next week they hate each other.

He asks how could Beanie Siegel be called to write records for Omelly then Meek Mill’s people come out assaulting Beanie. C believes that none of the relationships were ever real, and he feels like rappers in Philly only rock with each other when it’s convenient for them.

Charlamagne says Beanie or Meek’s people can’t be trusted. Apparently Philly isn’t really the city of brotherly love.

Uh oh! Charlamagne even says someone has to get hurt for punching Beanie Siegel just off the basis that it was Beanie Siegel.

Charlamagne also joked that he doesn’t believe in Hip Hop anymore if something doesn’t happen around all of this fake beef. He isn’t requiring anyone to be killed behind the foolishness, but he feels there has to be some action going down.

“Empire” Season 3 – “What Remains Is B######” Recap and Music Review

While season three of “Empire” is well in the black (no pun intended) when it comes to deftly tackling exactly what it means to be Black in America in 2016, the music has been a little less consistent.

While the plot lines dealing with racism have been meaty – and continue to be in this episode – in the previous episodes of this season, fans have been lucky to get one really good song per episode.

However, with tonight’s episode “What Remains Is B######,” this unevenness has been rectified.  With three original songs on offer, including the work of guest artists Romeo Miller and Mariah Carey, “Empire”  is three for three when it comes to a beast mode night of duets.

In classic Hip-Hop feud style, the first two duets are all about boyfriend beef between Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) and Romeo Miller when it comes to the Rihanna-esque Tiana (Serayah).  Miller, playing gangster turned rapper Gram, comes hard at Hakeem on Empire’s turf, performing a number with Hakeem’s ex Tiana (Serayah) that leaves little to innuendo.

Gram spits out incendiary lines like, “no I ain’t that clown,” and “your last boyfriend, mmm not on my level,” eyeballing Hakeem who is sitting in the audience with Cookie, Lucious and Jamal watching the rap carnage up front and center.  If that wasn’t bad enough, Gram and Tiana end the song with some intense and prolonged kissing action.

Aside from the “can you believe this $%it?!?” drama of the situation, musically both Miller and Serayah deliver some serious heat.  Naturally, it gets the desired over the top reaction from Hakeem.

When a fired up Hakeem  goes into the studio and expects Nessa to deliver the necessary hook for his answer back, things get deliciously complicated.  When Nessa reasonably states that she has a problem with the ethics of disrespecting Tiana, a girl that she doesn’t even know, Shine overreacts choking Nessa out like the unhinged individual that he is and seemingly always has been.

In a brilliant bit of maneuvering, Hakeem sidesteps the need for continued force by finishing his rhyme with some deft sampling of some of Tiana’s old hooks as the needed female touch to complete his master oeuvre.  That Hakeem’s lines are even more pointed and biting than Gram’s initial song is a thing of real musical beauty and highly satisfying as a statement on needless violence to get things done and done well.

Just when it seems like things couldn’t get any better from a musical  standpoint, “Empire” saves the best for last by closing things out with Mariah.  In regards to the storyline, as a method to ease Jamal back into performing, Cookie arranges for him to do an original song with the mega star Kitty, who is played in full corseted body suit splendor by Ms. Mariah Carey.

As we would imagine her to be, Carey/Kitty is the epitome of grace in dealing with Jamal’s performance anxiety, and even better once the singing starts.  That we even get to hear Mariah go into her highest of the high register is just more icing on the cake when it comes to a performance that makes the whole night.

Something else that makes this episode sing?  The question of whether money and education negate blackness.  When Andre discusses his unlawful arrest by the police, and his desire to clear his name “correctly” as a Wharton Graduate and also the CFO of a publicly traded company, guaranteed it isn’t only Lucious and Cookie who believe that Andre has sadly forgotten that in addition to all of those advantages, he is still a Black man in a country where all is not equal.

“Empire” airs Wednesdays at 9:00/8:00 central on FOX.

E-40 D-Boy DIary Book 2

The Background:
One of the most celebrated rappers of all time, E-40 has attained legendary status in hip-hop. Since making his debut with The Click almost 30 years ago and becoming one of the first West Coast rap artists to sign to a major label, his name has become synonymous with the independent music movement. E-40 has released 24 solo albums, become a platinum recording artist and collaborated with artists including Tupac, UGK, and Snoop Dogg. At age 48, E-40 is an anomaly in hip-hop, maintaining his relevance over a career that spans three decades. In the past few years alone, he’s been featured on several Billboard charts (“Choices,” Big Sean’s “IDFWU”, Ty Dolla $ign’s “Saved”), he’s earned an RIAA-certified Gold plaque (“Choices”) and starred and had his 2006 smash hit “Tell Me When to Go” featured in a Beats By Dre commercial. Says E-40, “What’s happening at this point in my career defies logic. Name another 48-year-old rapper with one Gold record, let alone three in the same year. My fans stretch much further than the Bay Area, further than just the West Coast. I brought so much s### to hip-hop. I’ve been relevant in each generation and each decade and I’ve done it as an independent artist.”

E-40’s success extends beyond the music industry, most notably through his entrepreneurship in the adult beverages industry. His wine business, Earl Stevens Selections, distributes high-quality wine to stores across the country. He has made inroads into the pre-mixed cocktail business with Sluricane, a signature bottled-mix named after his 1995 hit “Hurricane,” with The Click. In 2015, E-40 released an eponymous brand of 40-oz. malt liquor. E-40 is continuing his unprecedented longevity and success as an independent artist with his next album, scheduled for late 2016.

La Coka Nostra Is “Waging War” With Rite Hook As Group Prep Brand New Album

It’s been four-years since La Coka Nostra released their sophomore album, Masters Of The Dark Arts, the group’s first project without Everlast, which also happened to be their most critically acclaimed project.

Masters Of The Dark Arts featured collaborations with Vinnie Paz and Sean Price, as well as production from DJ Premier and Statik Selektah.

The music industry has changed considerably in that time.  However, a few things still remain constant; La Coka Nostra will always be as their aptly-titled 2009 debut verified, A Brand You Can Trust, and the group will continue to dazzle their rapid fan-base with sold out shows around the globe with their raucous live performances

The members of La Coka Nostra have collectively been delivering quality hardcore Hip-Hop music for 25-years now and with To Thine Own Self Be True they return re-invigorated and on the cusp of setting off for a world tour.

To Thine Own Self Be True; The battle-cry for La Coka Nostra from here on out,” group member Danny Boy stated. “It’s only onward and upward from here.”

Kim Kardashian Fears Thieves Will Leak New Sex Tapes & Private Photos

Because Kim Kardashian has overcome one sex tape scandal, posts naked photos on social media almost daily, and has done countless naked magazine spreads, we are sure another tape wouldn’t cause any damage to her brand.

Word on the street is that there may be another sex tape on the way since Kim K was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of one of her phones in Paris.

Judging by what we have already seen of Kim K, it’s safe to assume there are plenty of explicit photos and videos on that device.

According to U.K.’s TheSun:

“She is reeling from the trauma of what she went through. But much of the terror and shock she is still suffering is due to the real fear that pictures and videos on her two pinched mobile phones leak online. There is footage on the devices that was only ever meant to stay private. It would be catastrophic for Kim if her personal property was made public. She’s at her wits’ end.”

A source close to Kim claims that although Kim has turned her nudity into a lucrative reign, she doesn’t wish to go through the scandalous side of it all over again.

What do you think? What do you believe? They are already calling the girl Kim Lochte.

AHH Stray News: Snoop & Dolly, Kanye Goes Nuts, Drake Visits Drake

Snoop Dogg

One of the most legendary rappers could team with an icon of Country music, if the stars lineup correctly. Dolly Parton was on a recent episode of “The Real” that she wanted to duet with Snoop Dogg, since her husband is a major fan of the Long Beach bred rapper. “My husband loves him, by the way…so, it’s possible,” Dolly Parton told The New York Post. “It’s possible. My husband likes him as a person. My husband just relates to him somehow. He’s the coolest guy!”

Kanye West

Kanye West went nuts after his fashion show on Roosevelt Island tanked in front of the top bloggers, editors and fashion critics during New York’s Fashion Week. Kanye, 39, fired his whole staff and ditched his cellphone due to the amount of calls he was receiving over what critics have labeled a flop. “He had his agent fire all 30 of his staff after the fashion show and got rid of his phone so people can only contact him via e-mail,” a source told The New York Post.  “He had a nervous breakdown after the show and that’s what triggered it all.”

Drake
Drake

Drake finally answered the calls of Drake University students and the #BringDrakeToDrake hashtag by visiting Drake University in Iowa after his “Summer Sixteen” tour stop in Des Moines. Unfortunately, the students at the University never even saw the rapper. He managed to sneak onto the campus unnoticed during the night to take pictures in front of various Frat and Sorority houses.
