After revealing the artwork to their joint album “Collegrove“, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz release a new single off the project titled “Gotta Lotta.” The release date was also confirmed by Kanye West earlier yesterday via Twitter.
Dutch Capital enlists buzzing Toronto artist Tory Lanez for his new single “Walk Away” produced by Beat Da Knocker. The song is a testament to taking a chance on love in which everyone can relate too.
“This was one of the most genuine tracks I’ve done to date and Tory was perfect for the record. The vibe and everything was perfect. When we were in the studio together I knew this was the one. The energy was great, and it happened organically.”
“Walk Away” serves as the debut single from the DC native’s forthcoming project ‘Nothing Was Overnight,’ set to arrive this coming Spring.
Ty Dolla $ign is currently on the road with Future Hendrix, performing all across the country on the “Purple Reign Tour.” The tour wraps up later this month and for fans who’ve missed out, the Taylor Gang rapper gives us a recap in the first episode of his Purple Reign Tour vlog.
Sh*t’s THICK out here! Let me tell you. We may have had some high profile stuff back in the 90’s but it is still on and poppin’ these days. The difference is, nobody cares too too much. I guess we should care, right? Anyway! I am going to tell you, its real out here for real and nobody really knows this like Young Dolph. Somebody has put the pieces together and they have implicated members of Yo Gotti’s crew in a shooting that could have gotten somebody MERKED!
(AllHipHop News) Despite it’s popularity world-wide, Hip-Hop gets the brunt of a lot of negative click-bait articles in mainstream media. But now, places like Fox, CNN and MSNBC have good reason to take note of what Hip-Hop is doing to fight the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
After Revolt did their thing in a concert highlighting the crisis last weekend, Big Sean took the time to speak with Los Angeles’ 92.3 The Real about what he’s doing to give back to Flint with his Heal Flint Kids project.
“I believe in Karma, I believe in just being a righteous dude and a good person. It’s always been a major, major part of not just my career, but my upbringing. We used to go the Salvation Army all the time – two to three times a year,” Big Sean said of giving back to his local communities.
Backstage at The Real’s first annual Birthday Bash, Sean explained how he feels about the public works catastrophe in his home state and how he feels someone needs to be held accountable.
“What’s going on in Flint obviously is tragic, it’s not just a natural disaster though, there needs to be some blame placed on the people there who deserve it,” he lamented. “But you know we are stepping in and doing what we can – our goal was to raise $50,000, but now we almost have raised $100,000. And its not just for water, we aren’t just donating water bottles. We are helping kids get the proper care that they need, see the proper doctors.”
This story not only hits home for Big Sean because it happened in his own state, but his mother also suffered at one point in her life from lead poisoning as well.
“My mom actually has experienced lead poisoning to a degree, so we knew how deep it is, and I know the things that my mom went through and it’s real, real painful and real like devastating. We just want to make sure that they get the proper care, proper doctors and proper attention and not just the water bottles – but the water too.”
Word has already gotten to famed documentarian Michael Moore who also called Big Sean to congratulate and commend Sean on service to the city of Flint. More on the Flint, Michigan water crisis as news develops.
After premiering the audio last month, Marty Baller returns with the visuals for his latest single “Big Timers” featuring A$AP Ferg. The Mob released the video as part of this week’s #WavyWednesdays and was directed by Ferg himself.
(AllHipHop News) Spike Lee and Chance The Rapper have been feuding since the famed movie maker crafted “ChiRaq” and Chance objected.
Lee went on to diss Chance at Northwestern University yesterday stating “Chance the Rapper is a fraud, a straight up fraud” during the Q&A portion of the speaking engagement.
“Chance the Rapper’s a fraud. Straight-up fraud,” Lee said. “He puts himself up as a speaker of the people, but that means you have to put truths that you see. That doesn’t mean you can pick and choose what you talk about.”
The director also called out Chance’s father Ken Bennett, a Chicago governmental worker that was an aide to Senator Obama. Bennett now works with often-criticized Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Some students rushed to Chance’s defense, according to reports, and countered that Chance has extensive work in the community.
Lee left Northwestern University with a standing ovation from the audience.
Apparently Chance The Rapper and Spike Lee have a relationship that goes all the way back to when the rapper was a baby.
(AllHipHop News) In urban communities across the U.S. there are a host issues due to kids who have absentee parents. Be it that their parents are divorced or separated, in jail, on drugs or just not around, many youth struggle to find their way in the world without the proper family structure.
In this VICE Autobiographies piece with A$AP Ferg, we get an idea of Ferg’s home structure. Fortunately A$AP Ferg had a strong parenting structure at home, but he did lose his father at an early age. Despite the fact that his dad was around, Ferg’s parents separated so Ferg had a limited time with his father before he passed away from kidney failure.
But despite the fact that his father has been gone for some time, A$AP Ferg continues on and has found inspiration through art and music, persevering in the face of tragedy in his own life.
While most people know Ferg for his music with the A$AP Mob, Ferg also has a talent for painting canvases after learning about art and painting as a young kid with his father.
“My father wasn’t there, but he was in my life,” A$AP Ferg told Vice in a new documentary. “He had a lil shop where he had his silk screens and I always had glitter all over my clothes, glow in the dark paints.”
It’s well-known in the Hip-Hop world that Ferg’s father was responsible for designing some of the most iconic logo’s in Hip-Hop including the famed Bad Boy baby logo along with the Uptown Record’s cat logo.
“He never forced art on me, he just let me see what he did. Later on down the line I got into painting on t-shirts and so he taught me the method of how to paint on t-shirts,” Ferg explained.
Now with Ferg’s career in full swing musically, Ferg continues to take time making art on canvases as you can see in this documentary. Take a look below and get to know Ferg’s come up from the streets of Harlem to a lively member of the A$AP Mob.
This episode and the rest of the VICE Autobiographies series will be running on Verizon’s go90 streaming service. Make sure to go check out the rest of these episodes with Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, D.R.A.M., and a ton of others. (Series trailer here.)
In Bogota, Colombia something amazing happened. A Grammy Award-winning rapper and an emcee activist joined forces to create a new Hip-Hop super group.
Che Rhymefest and Jasiri X have formed the group named Kill Switch.
The pair have been traversing through Colombia recording new songs and creating music videos to match with a mission in mind. They seek to raise awareness around UNGASS (Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on the World Drug Problem).
Their mission was outlined in a press release. The statement said:
“They’ll be exploring, documenting and reporting on how drug policies that originate in the United States, directly connects to the global war on drugs impacting mass incarceration, narcotics proliferation and individual lives. In late 2015, the “Open Society Foundations” awarded 1Hood Media with support to explore this topic. As such, Rhymefest & Jasiri X will be interviewing the Mayor of Bogota Colombia, speaking with Arts & Culture experts in Cartagena and visiting the childhood home of the late Pablo Escobar in Medellin.”
KiLL Switch plan to drop their first effort, “#WarOnUs,” in the spring of 2016. They state the album will be “comprised of social and politically charged music” and will challenge police violence, Black on Black crime, the American judicial system and even environmental disasters.
Rhymefest recently won a Grammy as a writer on “Glory.” He’s the co-founder of Donda’s House, a philanthropic effort named after Kanye West’s mother. Jasiri X is the founder of 1Hood Media and recently performed at #JusticeForFlint as organized by directors Ryan Coogler and Ava Duvernay.
Former Roc Nation artist Memphis Bleek is back with a new freestyle over the classic “Imaginary Players” beat by his former boss, Jay-Z. This is also the latest release of DJ Absolut’s #MIXTAPEMONDAYS series that just reached it’s 30th week. “Imaginary Players” originally appeared on Hov’s In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 LP back in 1997.
Lil Uzi Vert recently stopped by ‘Sway In The Morning‘ and spoke on numerous topics. The emerging Philly rapper discussed the upcoming XXL Freshman class, being inspired by Chief Keef, working with Don Cannon and much more.
Project Pat and Juicy J take a joy ride from Memphis all the way to Hollywood in Pat’s new video, “Pint Of Lean.” The song appears on his latest project, Street God 2.
Quavo and Takeoff recently appeared on ‘Vlad TV‘ and chopped it up for a quick interview about the Forbes list and the derivative of their name. The Atlanta rappers spoke on how it feels making the Forbes list, the perks of being famous, taking care of their families and more. Migos released their latest project “YRN 2″ last month.
(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn native Sidney “Desiigner” Selby III has become one of the most talked about new rappers of 2016. Desiigner has gained a lot of attention in recent weeks for his single “Panda,” for signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, and for sounding similar to Future.
While Future has expressed he is not too thrilled with the idea of having imitators and some fans take issue with a New York rapper sounding like he is from the south, Desiigner has received support from fellow NYC representative Smoke DZA. In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, DZA explained why he does not have a problem with Desiigner drawing inspiration from Future.
“Desiigner is 18 years old, so I’m not upset at him sounding like Future, because that was his influence. He came up in the era of Future, so that’s not something he’s just trying to do because Future is hot,” said DZA. “I think he’s adopting his surroundings. He’s 18. He was probably f*cking with it before there was this Future mania. I can’t be mad at him for that.”
The Harlem emcee is set to release his next album, He Has Risen, on March 4. The project features beats created entirely by Brooklyn producer Harry Fraud. DZA also dropped a NYC themed video for “Heard Dat.” The RFC Music Group affiliate discussed how some of the 1990’s era emcees from his city provided a musical road map for his own career.
“For me, I came up on Biggie, Jay, Ma$e, and Cam. I’m 32. I was raised in the 90’s. I ran the streets in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, so I know what it felt like pre-Internet,” added DZA. “So that’s what I’m trying to tap into. I’m not trying to be nostalgic or bring back what these guys already did.”
He continued, “I’m just trying to take it into 2017 and pick up where they left off. I’m not dck riding them either. Everybody has their own way of going about sht. I just have a different way of showing my love to the Golden Era of New York music.”
(AllHipHop News) Motown singer-songwriter BJ The Chicago Kid recently released his major label debut album In My Mind. The LP includes appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Big K.R.I.T., and others. Then shortly after the project’s arrival, BJ dropped a video titled “OMG X Woman’s World” featuring TDE rapper Jay Rock.
“Oh My God” was not included on In My Mind. BJ explained to AllHipHop.com why the Jay Rock assisted cut was left off the final tracklist.
“It was supposed to be on the album, but because of a lot of clearance purposes and other things we chose to give it to you guys in a dope viral video before going to the next level of what we’re about to do,” said BJ.
Jay Rock was recently involved in a serious motorcycle accident. The Black Hippy member is said to be recovering from his injuries. BJ spoke about his friend’s current condition.
“He’s doing well and can’t wait to get back out to continue doing Jay Rock. He’s just taking his time,” stated BJ. “The good energy and prayers sent up are definitely helping the brother. He’s definitely appreciative.”
While In My Mind does not include Jay Rock’s voice, the album is still a monumental moment for music. BJ is helping to breathe life back into Soul music, and the Chicago bred vocalist is not conceding to the criticism that the genre is no longer as vital as it once was.
“I think Soul music is always in a great place. When you got Kanye making songs like ‘The Joy,’ it’s always welcoming us. All roads lead back to Soul music,” declared the Grammy nominated performer. “That’s why you have Drake trying to sing. Fetty Wap is a singer. Ty Dolla Sign is a singer. If all these guys don’t make soulful music, they still do it soulfully. All roads lead back to Soul music.”

(AllHipHop News) The breakup of R&B supergroup TGT has been very messy. Tyrese and Ginuwine got into a public spat in December. An Instagram message from Ginuwine included the singer calling Tyrese a “diva,” “little boy,” and “wack.”
Tank, the third member of the group, recently spoke with TMZ about the situation. He puts the blame for TGT’s demise on Tyrese demanding more money than the others. When asked if TGT could possibly reunite, Tank replied, “Nope… Tyrese still doesn’t want to split the money equally, so we’re done.”
According to a representative for Tyrese, the TGT profits were never to be split equally. Tyrese was supposedly expected to earn more money because he had a more successful career.
Tyrese saw Tank’s interview and responded directly on IG. The creator of the #1 album Black Rose posted a meme that read, “Guess who ain’t gotta explain sh*t to nobody.” He also wrote in the pic’s caption, “[Tank] I see we taking it to TMZ levels now……. I love you too….. Let me know when we gonna get the next play date locked in Shayla keeps asking about Zoey……. #Family.”
(AllHipHop News) Chicago rapper Vic Mensa was one of the high-profile performers for the Blackout For Human Rights organization’s #JusticeForFlint fundraising event on Sunday. The Roc Nation artist spoke with Billboard about taking the stage in Michigan to help raise money for the victims of the Flint Water Crisis.
“I definitely think that we can help make a change. The statement of this event is helping to make a change,” said Mensa. “The bottom line is that a lot of people still don’t know what’s going on here, the same way they don’t know that a lot of the root causes of the impoverished and African-American struggle in America is fueled by legislation and crooked policy.”
This is not the first time Vic has used his voice as a celebrity to address social issues in this country. The “U Mad” rapper wore an outfit featuring the face of Assata Shakur at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. He also protested against the killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by a Chicago police officer.
“I’m from Chicago so that was less of ‘I’m going to take a stand’ and more of ‘I have to take a stand.’ That’s just who I gotta be,” Mensa explained. “That was an electrifying experience and to see everybody in unity and connected for our basic human rights. It was completely necessary. It was less of an opportunity to use my voice for something positive and more of I just see all this sh*t as being completely necessary.”
Mensa is currently working on his debut studio album Traffic. He and longtime engineer Papi Beatz are providing most of the production for the project. The 22-year-old rhymer describes the LP as including his innermost thoughts and most personal stories.
“When my album comes out, you gonna know me better than you know a lot of your friends. They don’t tell you their deepest darkest secrets and loftiest aspirations,” stated Mensa. “My album is so personal to the point where it’s like somebody listening to it that really sits and takes their time with it is gonna know me more than I might even want them to know me.”
(AllHipHop News) Troy Ave is now backtracking on his scathing comments about people that commit suicide. The Brooklyn rapper dissed the late Pro Era member Capital STEEZ on his song “Bad Ass,” and then he later added that STEEZ had no right to kill himself.
Numerous celebrities and fans condemned Troy for disrespecting STEEZ and other individuals that have committed suicide. Styles P was among the critics of Troy’s comments. The Lox spitter lost a family member to suicide last year, and he called out Troy by name on Twitter. The BSB Records representative finally apologized for his statements.
If you never experienced a family committing suicide you have no fukn idea about that pain . NONE..
Troy may have apologized for his comments about suicide, but he continued his conflict with Pro Era’s Joey Bada$$. Yesterday the fellow BK rhymer posted Troy’s Major Without A Deal album cover with the “crying Jordan” face photoshopped onto it. Previously, Joey exposed some of Troy’s old tweets where he blasted Nas, Troy jumped back on Twitter to call out his foe.

(AllHipHop News) The award-winning Broadway musical Hamilton is expanding its brand to include a mixtape with several A-list performers. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the play’s creator, and Questlove, the soundtrack’s executive producer, spoke with Vanity Fair about the forthcoming project.
“So far, Busta Rhymes, Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Latifah, Common, Chance the Rapper, and others. People are coming out of the woodwork, knocking on the door,” said Questlove. “Half the songs are cover versions of songs in the show, and the others are interpolations—we’ll take some of this, some of that, and make something new out of it.”
The Hamilton Mixtape is expected to be released this fall, and it will also feature appearances by Usher and Sia. While Miranda stars in Hamilton on stage, the Tony and Grammy winner will not lend his voice to the musical collection.
“I’m not going to be on it because for me the goal is to keep this inspired by the original. But it is funny that this was my first idea, and now it’s come full cycle and coming after the show,” explained Miranda.
A PBS documentary about Hamilton is coming in the fall as well. Hamilton’s America will be broadcast as part of the network’s Great Performances series.
