(AllHipHop News) It has been 3 years since Detroit-born rapper Danny Brown dropped his last album Old. Brown is set to return with a new body of work titled Atrocity Exhibition.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with Brown to get more information about his forthcoming project. The “When It Rain” rhymer suggested Atrocity Exhibition is the first real representation of his true aesthetic.
“With this one, it was all about finding my sound — this feels, to me, like the first Danny Brown album,” said the 35-year-old Hip Hop artist. “Before, I experimented and tried out sounds, maybe something that was popular out at the time, I might go over something like that. But with this album, I didn’t care about what was happening with music today.”
Prior to Old, Danny released 2011’s XXX. He discussed the connection between his last two LPs and Atrocity Exhibition.
“All my albums are like documentaries of my life. With XXX, I was going through [those topics] at the time. And Atrocity Exhibition is all about everything that happened after XXX came out,” explained Brown. “Where Old, it was before XXXand the future. It would be Side A [of Old], XXX, Atrocity Exhibition, Side B [of Old]. That’s how this movie would go.”
Atrocity Exhibition will feature other well-received 2010 era emcees such as Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Earl Sweatshirt. They all appear on the posse cut “Really Doe.”
Brown stated, “When I was making XXX, my top three rappers – the three guys that I was like, ‘Damn, I think they might rap better than me’ – were Ab-Soul, Kendrick, and Earl. The guys I looked at as competition are now my friends. We’re like the Four Horsemen.”
(AllHipHop News) Even though Teyana Taylor has been releasing music for over seven years, the 25-year-old Kanye West protegé has become the breakout star of summer 2016.
Then on Sunday, West debuted the Teyana-starring video for “Fade” during the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. Once again the singer-actress was a top trending topic on Twitter.
The latest news involving Taylor is the announcement she is joining the cast of The Breaks. What began as a television movie, The Breaks is now an upcoming TV show with Mack Wilds as the lead.
Taylor is playing a rising rapper on the VH1 drama. The rest of the cast includes Wood Harris, Afton Williamson, David Call, and Antoine Harris.
The network is also bringing back Hip Hop Squares, the game show based on Hollywood Squares. Taylor will be one of the guests on the show being produced by Ice Cube’s Cube Vision.
Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg was the host of the original Hip Hop Squares which ran for two seasons on MTV2. Comedian DeRay Davis has been named as the new host.

Bada$$ proved his admiration for Jay during ThisIs50‘s “His Favorite Verse In Hip Hop” series. The video features the “Devastated” performer spitting “Friend Or Foe” from Reasonable Doubt.
(AllHipHop News) Chris Brown’s latest legal foray has just begun, but he may have just scored a major legal victory.
His lawyer claims that the Los Angeles Police Department didn’t find a gun on the premises after receiving a search warrant to search the Tarzana, California mansion.
Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos told the Los Angeles Times that there was no gun found on the singer’s property. Additionally, Geragos charges that the jewelry described by accuser Baylee Curran wasn’t located either.
Curran claimed that Breezy put a gun to her head when she attempted to touch some jewelry for sale in his house. The singer has vehemently refuted these claims.
“It has become apparent that the allegations are not just false but fabricated,” Geragos told The Times.
Based on Curran’s allegations, Chris Brown was was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, but posted $250,000 bail on Tuesday. He has yet to be formally charged with any crime.
Brown has an arraignment on Sept. 20.
Curran’s checkered past has also become a point of discussion.
She is a “dethroned beauty queen” that is wanted for a 2013 purse snatching at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. She allegedly stole a friend’s Louis Vuitton bag and the cash and credit cards inside.
She also accused a male roommate of assault in 2013, but he charged that she was intoxicated and violent towards his friend. The case was dismissed after Curran failed to show up to court.
Chuck Creekmur commented on the matter with Lisa Ever of New York’s Fox 5.
“My biggest concerns right now are that Chris Brown may – quite frankly – be accused of something he didn’t do,” Creekmur stated, noting the extreme police force used in the matter.
(AllHipHop News) In June, Kanye West added another track to The Life Of Pablo album which was released in February. “Saint Pablo” featured an appearance by British singer-songwriter Sampha.
The creator of the forthcoming Process project spoke with Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener for the OTHERtone show. Pharrell asked Sampha about his experience working with Ye.
“It was amazing meeting him and just seeing his process,” said Sampha. “It sort of filled me with confidence in myself to just try and do a solo project.”
He continued, “That’s where I got the idea of it’s alright sometimes to let other people help you realize your vision.”
Sampha has also collaborated with Drake, Frank Ocean, Jessie Ware, and SBTRKT. The “Timmy’s Prayer” vocalist’s full OTHERtone interview airs Sunday (August 4) on Beats 1 radio, and he is set to perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight (September 1).
(AllHipHop Features) This weekend concert goers at the Made In America festival will be taken to church. Of course, not in the literal sense. But rising vocalist Sir The Baptist is on a mission to turn the Tidal Stage into a pulpit and the festival grounds into pews.
With audio sermons such as “(Creflo) Almighty Dollar,” “Wake Up,” and “Raise Hell” as part of his repertoire, the preacher’s kid born William James Stokes is instituting another form of a holy sacrament for followers of all beliefs and faiths.
Is he a Hip Hop artist? Or is he a Gospel singer? The sounds that emanate from the mind of Sir is a union of both the secular and the sacred, forming a genre-mixing expression that taps into emotions felt in the sanctuary as well as the nightclub.
Last month, I spoke with Sir The Baptist by phone to talk about being raised in Chicago by a pastor. Part one of the conversation also consists of us discussing his current single, his appreciation for Tupac Shakur, and his upcoming set at Made In America.
Why did you decide on Sir The Baptist as your stage name?
There are a few things. My dad was a pastor of a Baptist church that ultimately became a Pentecostal church. So I wanted to reference where I came from. Names come from places, time, and people’s lives.
Also, John The Baptist was the forerunner for Jesus Christ. Everybody knows Jesus Christ, but not many people know about John The Baptist. The one thing about John The Baptist is that he’s this voice crying out in the wilderness.
Being an artist out of Chiraq, I feel like it’s the wilderness. I wanted to be that voice of reason in a place that’s a little disturbed.
Being a preacher’s kid comes with the stereotype of being a rebellious child. Was that your experience as a kid?
Yeah, you definitely get the expectation of: “You should be doing this because your dad’s a pastor.” Growing up being a preacher’s kid, we also hear the best and the worst about everybody in the church because they go to our parents for prayer. I was exposed to a lot of stuff being raised a preacher’s kid.
A video posted by Sir William James The Baptist (@sirthebaptist) on
Going back to you being raised in Chicago. Some of the artists out of Chicago have decided they no longer want to live there in order to escape the violence. Do you still live in Chicago?
Yeah, I still stay in Bronzeville.
What keeps you there?
The rich culture. I was born in Bronzeville, right there at Mercy Hospital. They call it the “Gateway to Jazz Heaven” because Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Muddy Waters, Sam Cooke, and a bunch of people migrated there during the Great Migration.
When they couldn’t go downtown, they created their own economic engine and bought from each other. That was Bronzeville. Bill Clinton said that Bronzeville was the sister of Harlem. Economy wise, it was like the Black Wall Street.
The reason I’m trying to stay as much as possible is to do justice to the inheritance I’ve been given. Sometimes when I perform I jump into an impression of Louis Armstrong. I take the people that did great things for my community seriously.
You’ve described yourself as an “urban hymnist.” I also noticed on your social media accounts, your bio reads “Descendant of 2Pac’s Ghetto Gospel.” Can you explain that description?
2Pac came from the same spiritual background, mine was more religious. I listened to 2Pac after my dad died when I was 11. I listened to more rap than Gospel.
[Gospel singers] would say stuff like, “Jesus is gonna work things out.” But they wouldn’t say exactly what was the problem, so I couldn’t relate. But Pac and everybody else was saying “Yo, I ran into the police today” or “My homie just got killed.” I could relate to those things.
Pac made a song called “Ghetto Gospel” that tipped this whole thing on its head. These are the rebels that Pac was. These are the rebels that Jesus was. The kind of guy that the last time he was in a church, he turned over a table.
You have the “Raise Hell” single. It seems like it’s gaining significant exposure. What do you think it is about that particular record that has caused so many people to connect with it?
Some people feel the beat is contagious. But you and I know what that is. It’s the shout music that would be in a Baptist church. It’s very contagious, but it also carries a message where I’m trying to get passed the reasoning stage of people that listen to it.
Enjoy the music, then find out it is very important things being said in there. Now that we’re about to use it for the Birth Of A Nation movie, you really get to hear it and feel it from the different perspective of Nat Turner. [editor’s note: this interview was conducted before the recent controversy involving Birth Of A Nation director Nate Parker]
What I found interesting about the video is that you juxtaposed these images of being in church with the shout music and news clips of protests. What was the message that you were trying to convey through that imagery?
I feel like the energy we put in to escape the problems, we need to use to fight the problem. When my mom’s going through something, she goes to church. As soon as the preacher says “God,” she’s going to shout her ass off. Because she’s going through something and she needs to know there’s something for her on the other end.
For our culture, that’s been the thing for a very long time. If you come to Chicago with me and a few colleges and high schools I’m taking to go see Birth Of A Nation, you get the story of why people try to escape the problems through spirituality.
I just wanted to pair those two visually. The same energy you use to shout, you could use to step outside the church and protest about something that’s going on. Don’t just go to the Lord. Sometimes the Lord puts it in your hand and says, “What they hell are you going to do with it?”
You’re performing at Made In America. What can people expect when you hit that stage?
I’m trying to bring church to the streets in a way that’s not as corny as that sounds. Every time I perform, we’re going to go to church. Most of the people that go to festivals will tell us all the time, “I hadn’t been to church in a year, three years, since I was little, or I only go to church on Easter.” [laughs]
People at a festival are usually high on drugs and even more in tune with their spirituality. Which is really weird. So we’re just going to try to build on that and create a great experience for everybody to enjoy themselves – feel some church.

Rumor has it that two of your favorite reality stars were booted from the very popular show, ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.’
Word on the street is that Joseline Hernandez and Stevie J. were let go from the VH1 show as their contracts weren’t renewed.
According to FunkyDineva, Steebie and Joseline will not be returning to ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ because both of them have landed their own spin-off shows. Joseline is said to be getting a show around her pregnancy (remember we still don’t know who her baby daddy is). Stevie J is reportedly getting a show around him and his family.
After years of drugs, sex, fights, and wasted studio time, we guess it’s good to see that they are still working.

No other network creates all its own content and brings together such disparate but important people.”
Questions have really come up around the woman that is accusing Chris Brown of pointing a gun at her. Now, it seems like her own criminal past is the subject of discussion. People are calling her a flat out liar for her inconsistent story and that extends to the people that were there.
Bailey Curran is a wanted woman in New York and would be arrested on sight for grand larceny if she went back. Police sources with journalist Lisa Evers say Curran is wanted for a 2013 purse snatching at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Curran – a dethroned beauty queen – allegedly stole a friend’s Louis Vuitton bag and the cash and credit cards inside.
Now that she is infamous, Curran will probably have to answer to those charges. However, Chris Brown is not off the hook. There is the gun thing. If he did – as a felon – possess a gun, he could have a hell of a PROBLEM. He is presently charged with a felony in this case.
AllHipHop’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur was on Fox 5 with Lisa Evers to talk about the case and the murkiness surrounding it, but there is much more coming out.
And then, a person named Savannah Faith Wilson that knows this chick and Breezy WENT IN on Facebook:
Also, look at this:

Then this:

There is a slight distinction in her story. In one she says she didn’t touch the jewelry and the other she seems to say she did. This chick seems to be telling duck tales.

Compton rap superstar Game is diversifying his portfolio with his recent investment in a marijuana dispensary. Game put up some cash to become a co-owner of The Reserve, which is one of 10 licensed medical marijuana dispensaries in Santa Ana, reports the O.C. County Register. Game is already hard at work innovating a line of marijuana flowers and concentrates that will debut exclusively at The Reserve, before rolling out to the other shops where weed is legalized. “At the foundation of every emerging industry is good people willing to stand up, step out and pave the way for future generations to come,” he said. “The Reserve is my platform for nationwide education and statewide access to consistent, locally grown, premium medicine.”

Mary J. Blige has joined the cast of hit TV drama “How To Get Away With Murder” as a guest star. The “No More Drama” hitmaker’s role is being kept under wraps, but she will join Viola Davis in season three of the show. Davis previously opened up about the new season and while she didn’t divulge many details she told Deadline.com there will be a “new mystery,” adding, “It’s going to be presented very quickly in the first episode.” This isn’t Blige’s first foray into TV – she previously appeared in “Empire,” “Black-ish,” and “The Wiz Live!.” She also starred in the movies “Rock of Ages” and “Black Nativity,” while her latest film “Mudbound” is set for release next year. The casting news comes a month after Blige filed court documents seeking to end her 12-year marriage to husband and business manager Kendu Isaacs in July.
Chris Brown and his crew
One of Chris Brown’s neighbors wasn’t too surprised the singer has ended up in a major jam, after being accused of pointing a gun at a woman during some sort of incident at his mansion in Tarzana, California. One man claimed the area was a quiet place until Chris moved into the area. “I think he’s a piece of s**t,” Chris Brown’s neighbor Rudy Akbarian told RadarOnline. “He’s rude, first of all. I’ll come walking out with my friends at 12 o’clock. I get home at 12 o’clock from work. He’ll be out here with his stupid little friends and their stupid little cars, revving their engines,” Akbarian said. “Like dude, people are trying to sleep! This is a residential area! You wanna rev your cars? Go to a frickin’ racetrack like normal people do.” Chris has been released from jail on a $250,000 bail.
(AllHipHop News) The wife of Nicki Minaj’s brother has filed for divorce as he fights felony rape charges.
Jelani Maraj, 37, was arrested in New York in December after an unnamed 12-year-old girl alleged he had been raping her for months, with the last encounter occurring just one day prior to his arrest.
He was subsequently charged with three counts, including first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and predatory sexual assault, and is due to return to court for a hearing in September.
Maraj has pleaded not guilty to all charges, but the allegations were enough for his wife of less than a year, Jacqueline Robinson, to call time on their relationship.
She filed for divorce in a Nassau County court on 18 August, just four days before the couple’s first anniversary, reports DailyMail.co.uk.
The split is labeled as “Uncontested Matrimonial”, meaning both parties have agreed to end the union. Jelani and Jacqueline exchanged vows in a lavish ceremony at the Coral House in Baldwin, New York on 22 August, 2015, and Nicki was on hand to toast the newlyweds – and pick up the bill.
At the time, the Anaconda hitmaker took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and the groom, captioning it:
“I would cross the ocean for u. I would go & bring u the moon. Promise u. For u I will. I love my brother so much man. Can’t believe I cried during his wedding and his first dance like a punk. May God bless him and his union.”
“Tonight has been one of my favorite nights of all time,” she added. “I do anything to see my brothers smile… Jelani, I love u more than you’ll ever comprehend.”
The star has not commented on her brother’s legal issues, but she did post the $100,000 bail for her brother in December.
According to TMZ.com, she put up two of her homes as collateral for the bail bond. The houses, located in Baldwin, New York, are occupied by her brother and her mother.
Jelani faces a lengthy sentence if convicted of the charges – predatory sexual assault alone carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

(AllHipHop News) Young Thug managed to generate significant buzz for his Jeffery commercial mixtape when the project’s cover art hit the internet.
The photo of the Atlanta rapper wearing a dress led to both criticism and praise.
Did the cross-dressing hype help Thugger earn high sales?
According to HDD, Jeffery is on pace to sell less than 20,000 copies in its first week.
The industry website predicts Thug will sell around 16,000 – 19,000 out the gate. With streaming numbers added in, the tape could reach 33,000 – 37,000 equivalent album units.
Young Thug’s Slime Season 3 dropped in March of this year.
The 300 Entertainment artist totaled 38,000 album equivalent units with 22,000 sold copies at that time.
If the predictions hold up, the traditional sales for Jeffery will be slightly below those for Slime Season 3.
The two projects could also be very close when it comes to sales plus streaming numbers.
Jeffery is likely to fall well short of the sales/SPS sums of the other new releases from last week.
Florida Georgia Line, Barbra Streisand, and Britney Spears will open in the top 3 spots on the album chart.
Thug is expected to land between 7-9. This would be his second Top 10 project after Slime Season debuted at #7.
(AllHipHop News) Akinyele was supposed to go to war in the world of strip clubs, but instead, the King of Diamonds owner managed to forge a partnership with a major competitor, which lead to the way of a new club on Ocean Drive in Miami.
The rapper shot into the headlines in June, when he announced he was opening a new King of Diamonds on South Beach.
The news caused an immediate uproar and panic in Miami, leading to protests from local residents, who fear the black-owned business will help drive up the crime rate on Ocean Drive.
During the brouhaha, there were questions about exactly what kind of establishment Akinyele was opening.
In episode 7 of his series “The King Of South Beach,” Akinyele revealed that he has struck a partnership with Damon “D.C.” Cobbs, the owner of the VLive brand of strip clubs.
“In the real world, we was supposed to go to war, we was supposed to have that fight,” Akinyele said. “But what we did was, we did something else. We came as one and so ‘yo, how do we make this go to the next level?’”
VLive’s business is growing at a healthy pace with locations in Dallas, Houston, Jackson Mississippi, New Orleans, Phoenix, Atlanta, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
VLive’s owner Damon Cobbs also recognized the positives of working together to open a VLive/KOD brand on Ocean Drive.
It was an opportunity Cobbs said he couldn’t pass up.
“VLive Miami, on South Beach. 13th and Ocean Drive. My man Akinyele called me and said ‘we need to open this thing up to Miami. He said ‘DC you aint made it yet until you came to Miami. I said ‘you know what bro? Your right!”
