(AllHipHop News) Chris Paul and Kendrick Lamar are two of the most the influential entertainers out of California so it is only expected that these two cross paths. For ESPN The Magazine’s recent The Music Issue, the two had a joint interview where they discuss Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse, branding tips from Jay Z and more.
Ever since Lamar’s “Control” verse called out his peers to engage in competition it has been the topic of discussion of everyone from hip hop blogs to mainstream news outlets. Paul explained what his immediate reaction was to hearing the verse and even compared it to his own approach to basketball:
When I heard that verse, I immediately texted him and told him how crazy it was.[Laughs] But like he said, competition is what keeps you going. When I played against Steve Nash the first time, the night before, I couldn’t sleep. He’d just won MVP, and I couldn’t wait to compete against him. Now, it’s funny, I’m nine years into the league, and there are so many great young point guards in our league. They’re coming for me like I was going for Nash. It’s competition — it’s why we do this.
Lamar later stated that Top Dawg Entertainment was molded after Jay Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records in 2004, the year Dame Dash and Jay Z split. Paul explained later how his relationship with Jay Z changed his own views on branding:
Well, I have a real relationship with Jay. I know him very well; we talk all the time. I know how smart and how knowledgeable he is. He educates me on various things. This is bigger than him just being Jay Z, the music artist. His mind is brilliant.

It seems that Jay Z and Justin Timberlake p##### somebody off somewhere. I admit I have not done any research on this, but it seems both of these guys are boycotting the Grammys this year. Now, this rumor is a bit old, and it contradicts reports that Jay and Beyonce will open the Grammys (so The Roc will definitely be in the building). It basically seems like The Grammys cut check and Jay cashed it. They have been waning and suffering in the ratings department. They got Jay, but seems like Justin is not down, because both he and Jay got snubbed in all the major categories.

I think Jay went with the money and JT…didn’t feel the need to do that.
Do you remember the last time Jay boycotted The Grammys?

(AllHipHop News) Soulja Boy once said he “hold a hunned rounds, love them gun sounds” and might have lived up to that earlier today (January 22nd).
According to TMZ, Soulja Boy was arrested by police in Los Angeles for gun possession. Law enforcement sources say Soulja Boy was a passenger of a car that ran red light in San Fernando Valley.
Soulja Boy is currently being booked and a bail has not been determined for his release. We will update this story as details emerge.
Christopher Williams seems to be shady boots about his relationship status.
The major question this week in the Real Housewives of Atlanta world was whether Christopher Williams is married or not. If you recall, Kenya threw shade at Cynthia’s friend Natalie for saying that she and Chris were married. According to Kenya, who says she knows Christopher from their work on a chitlin’ circuit play, he never claimed Natalie as his wife or even girlfriend, but instead said she was a groupie.
That’s stretching it because Natalie said they had been married for over 20 years. No one keeps a groupie around for that long so there has to be some type of relationship at play. Even people that I know, who know Natalie were saying that Kenya was telling tales. However, Kenya wasn’t having it with people calling her a liar so she found this video where Williams claims he isn’t married and alludes to being single.
Check it out at about :34.
Shady! On the show, Phaedra determined that Natalie and Christopher were “common law” married since they’ve been together for so long without legal certification so him saying that he’s not married might not be a lie. Then again, people have different ideas of what actually constitutes marriage so it’s strange that he would be in a relationship with a woman for that long and not be on the same page about what they are. I know grandma used to say, “If you’re not married then you’re single” but it seems like he’d publicly claim her even if they weren’t legally married yet had been together for two decades.
Again, I know a few people who are close to the situation claiming that Christopher and Natalie are together and that there’s truth to Natalie saying they’ve been together for as long as she says.
Messy!

*Folks always whispered that the good Reverend was creepin’. Whenever Junior got in trouble, the Rev was never around.
He was always somewhere “workin,’” leaving his wife with the responsibility of bailing the kid out of jail. Then came the day when Junior got shot on MLK Blvd.
After ,frantically , searching for Rev, his wife finally tracked him down at a baseball game sharing popcorn and peanuts with his white “stepchild” lil Tommy…
January 15, is the official birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr , it kicks off that time of year when people in this country start celebrating the accomplishments of the late , great civil rights icon. Speeches are gonna be played in heavy rotation about his dream of one day seeing little black boys and black girls holdin’ hands with little white boys and white girls. And how we should have unconditional love for white people no matter how rotten they treat us.
For a time the social amalgamation of the races seemed to be the cure-all for the problems facing black folk. If white people just got to know us, they would realize that we were not the cannibals from the old Tarzan movies, runnin’ around a b######## pot chantin’ “yum yum eat ‘em up.” Nor are we a bunch of lust filled sex maniacs , hiding behind bushes just waiting to pounce on the first virtuous white chick who passed by, ala Birth of a Nation. If we could just go down to Starbucks and have a hot cup of coffee, we could live out Rodney King’s dream and “all get along.”
During the 60’s, the misappropriated idea of redemptive suffering was used by those who wished to counter the fire of the burgeoning Black Power Movement. So, little black children gettin’ bitten by police dogs was seen as an act of redemption for those whose only sin was being born with dark skin.
For white America , Dr. King was seen as a Prince of Peace. A modern day apostle to the Gentiles who would plead the case of black humanity to white America.
The name Martin Luther King has become synonymous with the whole Civil Rights movement. A generation of people who believed that integration was the key to the salvation of the entire black nation.
One cannot fathom the time , energy and resources that it took to get white folks to love black people. But somewhere black love went bankrupt. Somewhere, we used up our love fund and the checks came bouncin’ back with “insignificant funds” stamped in big graffiti letters.
My main criticism of the civil rights era is that black leaders spent too much teaching our children to love white kids and not nearly enough time teaching them to love each other. And now the chickens have come home to roost.
In ‘hoods across the country, black blood is flowing in the streets like water. We live in a time when teenage rappers like Chief Keef can brag about making a CD that is gonna “ raise the murder rate in Chi-Town”, a city already suffering from black on black violence. We live in an era when teenage girls become overnight celebrities for sucka punchin’ other black girls and putting it on youtube.
So history has shown that the Civil Rights Movement has been useless when it comes to solving the problem of black fratricide.
Strangely enough, most of the solutions for Black people in 2014 are either vetted by white media gatekeepers or phrased in a way to appeal to the guilt complexes of white liberals who have watched Boyz in the Hood too many times.
Back in the 60’, Robert Penn Warren wrote the book “Who Speaks for the Negro, “ the answer then was people like Malcolm X , Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) or James Baldwin. However, the answer today would be white liberals like Rachel Maddow, Tim Wise or Hip Hop’s great white hope, Macklemore.
There is a void in the Black community. Dr. Bobby E. Wright once said that what we needed was a”Black social theory’ to solve the problems in the black community, perhaps the most pressing being black on black violence. Some groups have picked up the slack and started a Black Power/Black Peace Campaign to stop Black on Black violence in 2014. But we need more black solutions for black problems.
This may sound harsh but this year, we have to kidnap Dr. Martin Luther King and bring him to the ‘hood. . If the words of Rev. King were able to touch the heart of a grand dragon of the Ku Klux Klan and make him let a black dude take
his daughter to the prom, surely, they can make a Blood think twice before blastin’ a Crip.
Now I know that this is supposed to be a time when people are supposed to sing “We Shall Overcome” and give some positive, happy messages to the kids. But like Treach said on Naughty By Nature’s “Ghetto Bastard”
“Say something positive? Well, positve ain’t where I live.”
Dr. Martin Luther King has been in the suburbs with the manicured lawns and picket fences too long. Its time for him to come back home.
His children are waitin’ for him.

Mister Cee made headlines when it was revealed that he was sexually into people that were not women. Well, it looks like the next issue of GQ as Cee talking the talk to the mag. I am not sure exactly what they have to say, but it seems like he will be talking living a “double life” in Hip-Hop. I find this interesting for a number of reasons, but mostly that Cee is talking about it publicly. God Bless and I will be reading.
This sort of stuff is almost normal now, so I guess I am not so shocked.
