Battle Over Rick Ross Name Rages On In Court

(AllHipHop News) The legal battle over the name “Rick Ross” rages on between “Freeway” Rick Ross and rapper Rick Ross, who owns the trademark to the name.

On Tuesday (July 17), a federal judge ruled that the case could continue in court.

According to the latest ruling, Freeway Rick can pursue Warner Brothers, since Rick Ross and his record label Maybach Music Group have a deal with the label.

According to the judge presiding over the case, Freeway Ricky has 10 days to amend his lawsuit, against Warner Brothers, for false advertising, unjust enrichment, and unfair business practice.

Freeway Ricky Ross has been battling rapper Rick Ross, born William Leonard Roberts II, in court, since 2010.

Freeway Ricky filed his first lawsuit against the rapper in June of 2010, in hopes of preventing him from using and exploiting, his birth name.

Freeway Rick claims that the rapper co-opted his name and likeness as a former drug kingpin and parlayed it into a successful rap career.

Freeway Ricky Ross is an urban legend, who had a drug empire that earned as much as $2 million per day.
Additionally, Freeway Ricky has been the subject of numerous articles in regards to the Iran-Contra scandal and he ha been featured on popular television shows like “American Gangster.”

But the rap star came out on the victorious end of two separate lawsuits, one in federal court and another, appeal in state court.

In the first ruling, the judge ruled that Freeway Rick could not capitalize on his own name, since it was built off of committing real crimes.

The state ruled that a statute of limitations on the allegations helped the rapper get the case dismissed from court.

To make matters worse, rapper Rick Ross received a federal trademark for the name, which he has used in commerce since his 2006 debut, Port of Miami.

EXCLUSIVE: Juvenile Comments On B.G.’s Legal Situation

(AllHipHop News) Former Cash Money Records rapper Juvenile commented on the legal situation facing his former label mate, B.G.

B.G., born Christopher Dorsey, was sentenced to 14 years in prison yesterday (July 18) for weapons violation, obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

Juvenile commented on B.G.’s legal situation during a recent interview with AllHipHop.com.

“I don’t feel good about it. It’s one of those situations where you get sick in your stomach,” Juvenile told AllHipHop.com. “I wish nothing but good things for him and his family, his kids, because you don’t want to see nobody go get locked up that long and be away from their family.

Juvenile was a member of The Hot Boys with B.G., Lil Wayne and Turk.

As The Hot Boys, the group released albums like x y and z, before disbanding in 2001.

Juvenile, Lil Wayne, B.G. and Turk have all had issues with the criminal system throughout the years, but it was Turk, Lil Wayne and B.G. who have had the most serious encounters.

Today’s ruling means that B.G. will not be released from prison until 2025, assuming he serves 85% of his federal prison sentence.

After his own series of legal issues, Juvenile told AllHipHop.com that he has matured throughout the years and often warns his fans of the consequences of engaging in illegal activities.

“I try to tell all the youngsters out there man, if you want to be gangster and go out there and thug-out and go out there and do certain things, just know there’s consequences,” Juvenile told AllHipHop.com. “It was a situation where it shouldn’t have happened; I wish it would have never happened. I wish he never would have got pulled over or whatever, but it happened. I just wish and am hoping that all you other cats out there take heed to that and don’t make the same mistake.”

Exclusive Hip-Hop Rumor: Did French Montana Get Arrested?!

Bad Boy/MMG charismatic rapper French Montana had a brush with the law last night that almost ended up with him in the slammer. The rapper was a passenger in a car, when it was pulled over for reasons that are still unclear. The police asked French to get out of the car and proceeded to frisk him. French instagram’ed a photo of the pat down. Check it out blow:

Thankfully, French instagram’ed the message, “They let me go much luv.” Glad to see we don’t have another rapper going to jail. With BG getting sentenced to 14 years yesterday and Beanie going away for two, I don’t want to see any more rappers getting locked up this year.

Epic Win Of The Day: The Dunk Of The Summer!

WOW. JUST WOW.

This acts as both the epic win of the day and the epic fail of the day. Guard Angelo Sharpless of Division II Elizabeth City State University did one of the most incredible dunks in recent memory on some poor sap at a Ben Wallace Summer Pro Am game a couple days ago. Check it out. At least nobody really knows the other dudes name. Still, he knows and he got shook right out of position. Hopefully he didn’t get dropped.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Was Nicki Minaj Scammed Out Of $100K?

Word on the street is that Nicki Minaj was allegedly scammed out of $100,000 by a shady video producer from Trinidad. According to Radar Online, Nicki was reportedly ripped off by film producer, Ellis Briggs, who was hired to help produce her music video for “Pound The Alarm.”

The star allegedly filed a police report along with London Alley Entertainment, the production company that shot the music video. According to local reports, the man owns a video production company and allegedly took the cash without delivering on any services, creating a “logistical nightmare” for everyone involved.

Briggs, the music producer who is accused of the scheme, has denied any wrongdoing, counter-claiming that Minaj’s production company actually owes him $19,000 for services and fees fulfilled, and that the negative press has compromised his ability to get work.
