Has The Internet Helped Or Hurt Hip-Hop?
The internet has been around in some form or another since the 1960’s, but didn’t get prominent until the 90’s. In the late 90’s AllHipHop was founded and a number of other urban progressives delved into the uncharted digital space. While it was a movement similar to the Wild Wild West, the movement slowed down to a crawl in the early 2000’s after the digital bubble burst into recession.
These days, the internet is seeing a boom that is unlikely to crash the way it once did. Businesses have found new, inventive ways to capture the internet audience. AllHipHop has stayed firm in the space, but we’ve seen the advent of popular blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and other institutions that continually add to the internet experience.
In this year alone, we’ve seen a number of Hip-Hop artist effectively use the internet and other employ it quite ineffectively. Furthermore, music and album leaks have affected everybody from Kid Cudi to Jay-Z to Raekwon in varying degrees. How should the Hip-Hop and urban community use the ‘Net? Has it helped or hurt the culture as a whole?

University May Drop Gucci Mane Performance Over Lyrics
An upcoming performance at North Carolina A&T featuring Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane is drawing criticism from students and faculty members.
Gucci will be performing with artists Fabolous, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson and OJ Da Juiceman.
According to the News & Record, students have been complaining to officials about Guccis alleged gang ties and the reflection his appearance could have on the school.
We are reviewing our options right now, Chancellor Harold Martin said yesterday (September 30.) We are trying to determine if this artist can be replaced under the existing contract, how that would be done, what the fiscal result would be.
Reports stated that some students are divided over picking a socially conscious artist as opposed to choosing an artist who may draw a large following.
This is frankly exactly the kind of intellectual debate we should be having at this university, Martin said. It is important, and it raises the intellectual climate when we ask these difficult questions about our community.
Officials with the school said the concert will continue as scheduled on October 31, since contracts have been signed – and 6,000 tickets have been sold.

The rapper is currently featured on the remix to Mariah Careys#### single Obsessed and Marios track Break Up.

The iconic hip hop band was on CNN and spoke about them being labeled sell outs for mainstream gigs, such as being the house band on the Jimmy Fallon show. ?uestlove quelled those rumors as nonsense and insisted that the band is merely being business savy, cashing those late night checks, as well as enjoying keeping fans guessing.
Here is what Questo said to CNN:
“I don’t know if selling out is even a factor in 2009. There’s being responsible, and there’s being businessmen,” he said. “My definition of selling out is when your products start sounding crappy and when you phone it in from home. But I don’t think there’s anything compromised or rushed or ill-timed or misthought about our career decision. As long as the music’s funky and true, and our art is still represented, I don’t see that at all.

One of my readers talked to a friend of his that works in a New York hospital, where they now REQUIRE people to take the Swine Flu vaccination. Check it out and you tell me what up. Also, at the end there is a video.
any new news on that mandatory vaccination? did they make you take it yet?
It is really getting interesting because the attending physician union is fighting this at the hospital administration level. But the decision to make the vaccine mandatory for all hospital employees was a law passed by the state of New York, so its above the hospital.
I haven’t had to take it yet, but the official policy is still that if you do not get it by Nov. 30th you are suspended for two weeks without pay. If you fail to get the vaccine within the two weeks you lose your job. I am just going to wait it out as long as possible and hope this gets overturned or something. I did get the regular flu shot, which I would have elected to get even if it wasnt mandatory. But this swine flu thing really has not been tested in humans, so I am really not excited about being one of the 1st human subjects!

Much of the Hip-Hop community has grumbled internally that there is a lack of positive artists in the trenches crafting more positive forms of the music. Even singing legend Gladys Knight Weighed in and chastised rap music without looking beneath the surface.
Jasiri X is a rapper that hails from Pittsburgh and hes been one of the chief artists attempting to jar the community awake. Hes consistent dropped songs that create dialogue with block busting beats to boot.
Most recently Jasiri attended the rallies surrounding the G-20 Summit, which was held in his native city. Reports say Pittsburgh was transformed into a police state, fully equipped with riot police, to keep the protests at bay. I am hearing strong words that the original Freeway is out. The original Rick Ross is out. That’s right. The infamous Freeway Ricky Ross has been released from jail, according to sources that I have. 50 Cent Replies To Jay-Z; Calls Rapper A “Punk”
Rapper 50 Cent addressed recent comments made by rapper Jay-Z during a radio interview on the BBC last week.
Jay-Z defended rapper Kanye West in an interview conducted by DJ Trevor Nelsons BBC radio show last week.
Jay-Z became irritated when Nelson suggested that West would not have stormed the stage at the 2009 VMAs, had 50 Cent been an accepting an award instead of country singer Taylor Swift.
It wasn’t 50 Cent [who made the comments], 50 told Angie Martinez. Hip-Hop has cool punk and Jay is the coolest punk in Hip-Hop. Hes big. And his take on it is [hes] bigger than the art form and he wont actually and compete. Battling has been a part of the culture.
I think he would have done that if that was 50 Cent,” Jay-Z also told Nelson. “No one is scared of 50 Cent. I want everyone to be clear. No one is scared of 50 Cent.”
Although 50 Cent went on to say that he did not have any problems with Jay-Z, he firmly stated that no one would storm his stage if put in the same situation.

Sways seminar will take place in Little Rock, Arkansas, and focus on supplying essential information on the radio, television, entertainment, and multi-media industries.
As an industry veteran whos found success in radio (Sway and Techs The Wake Up Show), film (Stomp the Yard), and television (MTV News), Sway sees Little Rock as a breeding ground for the next generation of industry stars.
I recently had the opportunity to visit Little Rock to host their first Fashion Week and was pleasantly greeted with an abundance of passionate individuals who were eager to know more about how to successfully enter the entertainment business, Sway explained to AllHipHop.com.
