Jazze Pha Sheds Over 70 Pounds As Part of Weight Loss Challenge

(AllHipHop News) Multi-platinum producer Jazze Pha continues to stress a healthy lifestyle after announcing a weight loss challenge in April. According to Jazze, he has lost over 73 pounds in the three months since announcing the contest with celebrity trainer Kenya Crooks, aka “The World’s Greatest Weight Loss Expert.”The super-producer said a rigid, variety of daily exercises, like boxing, running and swimming, has helped him shed the pounds in such a short period of time. “I never know what to expect,” Jazze Pha told AllHipHop.com. “He’ll have me doing a boxing workout one day and then doing one of his famous pool workouts the next day. That’s why I haven’t hit a plateau, its always something different everyday.” Jazze Pha is currently pitching a reality show chronicling his weight loss journey over the past several months. The producer is almost at his stated goal of losing 100 pounds in four months, as part of a national  campaign against obesity. Jazze and Kenya Crooks are also offering $1,000 to a national winner who sheds the most weight within the same four month. “I have the best fans in the world,” Jazze Pha continued. “The love and support that has been shown is overwhelming. It makes me feel good when people come up to me telling me they’ve been praying for me and how much my weight loss journey has inspired them.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Rakim Gets Dissed!? Vado’s Street Beef! Soulja Boy Stole Pretty Boy Swag?

VADO GETS SOME HEAT IN THE STREET?

VADO!!!  He’s the new hot boy in the streets, eh? OK, I know my slang is off, but let me say pause real fast. Anyway, Vado (for those that may not know) is Cam’Ron’s new artist. On Friday, he was out in the streets on Fredrick Douglas Ave., on 142st, in Harlem, according to my sources. Apparently, two bald dudes stepped to him over something right in the streets in front of everybody. Nobody could hear what was going on, but their hands were making a lot of movement, leading people to think there was something going on. Apparently, Vado wasn’t feeling where they were coming from or didn’t take a liking to what they were saying. Then, one of them asked him if he wanted to come around he corner with them.  I’m not sure who was with Vado or what, but he declined that offer and departed. Seems like somebody tried to shake Vado down  for paper on behalf of a certain rapper, who shall remain nameless.

THE REAL REASON LEBRON LEFT CLEVELAND

I never quite understood why Lebron would up and leave his beloved hometown for less money.  I get that he wants a championship ring sooner than later, but it just didn’t make full sense to me. So, I am being told that the real reason may just go back  to that situation with his mother and his fellow ballplayer Delonte.West, I admit that my sources aren’t so rock solid in this one so this could be a “fairy tale,” as Jay-Z put it. But, it makes some sense. If the whole team knew what was going on and didn’t say something to him, that’s cold AND it’s colder for his teammate to do that. I’d leave too, if that even happened. That situation was never confirmed or talked about either.

Nevertheless, Lebron is about to be a beast out in Miami!

SOULJA BOY STOLE PRETTY BOY SWAG!Lil’ dude went in on Soulja Boy!!!!

JAY-Z SAYS, “I’M NOT DOWN WITH SATAN!!!!!!!!!!!!”

People are going to believe what they want,  but its definitely interesting that Jay has been “listening” to all the talk about him and his alleged ties to the world of Free Masonry, Lucifer and general Illuminati-like forces. If you didn’t read it, here is what he said.“N***as couldn’t do nothing with me, they put

the devil

on me. I would have preferred n***as squeeze the metal on me/ Rumors of

Lucifer, I don’t know who to trust/ The whole world wants my demise,

turn the

“If y’all n***as fear me, just say y’all fear

me. F**k

all these fairy tales/ Go to hell, this is God engineering/ … I said I

was

amazing/ Not that I’m a Mason …/ I’m on my third six, but a devil I’m

not.

TECHN9NE DISSES RAKIM AND KEYSHIA COLE?

This is the most random diss ever. Keyshia refused to perform at a show before Tech and was unaware that he was one of the biggest indie stars I the nation. With Rakim, it was the same thing. Rakim didn’t want to to go on before tacky so he didn’t show. He told them both to “get of your high horse.” LOL!

Ol Dirty’s Masters Being Sold For ‘Peanuts’ According To Former Manager

(AllHipHop News) The battle over Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s final album rages on between his manager Jarred Weisfeld and the rapper‘s widow, Icelene Jones. Family members have publicly accused Icelene Jones of squandering money and opportunities that would benefit Ol Dirty‘s estate and other children. According to Weisfeld, Icelene Jones sold the rights to an upcoming Ol Dirty album titled A Son Unique and then spent the money on herself. “She sold out for peanuts,” Weisfeld told The New York Post of Jones’ business deal for the album. Ol’ Dirty Bastard died of a heart attack induced by drug use in November of 2004. Weisfeld and Icelene Jones remain embroiled in a court dispute in Brooklyn Surrogate Court.

A Long Convo With… Soulja Boy Tell’Em

Our pals at VIBE sat down with the 19-year-old Soulja Boy and talked studying Nas, disappearing tattoos, and disparaging Twitter hashtags. For more on Soulja Boy – go to Vibe.com.

VIBE: The world thought you kissed you 2.2 million Twitter followers goodbye last week. What happened?

Soulja Boy Tell’Em: Some busters hacked my page. Little nerds, they sit all day and try to get into your page. I woke up and couldn’t log in and was just getting crazy texts, like, “Man, you deleted your Twitter?” Twitter brought my page back; everything is 100 now.

Would’ve been a tragedy amidst the success of “Pretty Boy Swag.” Did you expect the video to hit No. 5 on iTunes the first day it came out?

When I went in the studio to do that song was earlier this year, I was playing. I got a beat from my lil homies and went in and said, Pretty… Boy… Swag. I was really feeling myself. The song did like a million [views] on YouTube. So I ran with it, the streets ran with it, and after that, the label caught hold.

Does it feel similar to your previous singles that took off, like “Crank Dat” and “Turn My Swag On”?

Yeah, it feels just like “Superman,” like “My Dougie.” That authentic, real growth from the streets spread through the high schools and the college parties. I love that feeling.

“[Kanye] said, ‘Those were some dope f-ckin’ verses.’ I said, ‘OK, that’s all I needed. [Laughs] I got the stamp.'”

I remember you saying a few months back that you want this to be your most lyrical album yet. What’s your writing process?

It depends on what type of song it is. For “Pretty Boy Swag,” there was no writing process. I went into the booth, listened to the beat, and the rhythm had just kept catching my head. So I put the headphones on and just replaced the rhythm with whatever words. That was my basic process for that song. But like for a song I have on my album called “I Deserve A Grammy,” featuring Esther Dean, the writing process for that was crucial. That was like, a six-hour plane ride from New York to Los Angeles, just clearing my head, sitting down with a sheet of paper and a pen and just going in. Thinking of the words, how I’m going to pronounce each syllable and playing the beat over and over in my head. That was a much more crucial process. When people hear the album, and hear songs like “I Deserve A Grammy,” you’re going to be able to tell I really had to sit down and go back in over and over until I had it perfect.

Interesting song title. Do you feel like you don’t get enough respect for the success you’ve achieved?

Everybody knows what it is. Whether they respect it publicly or low-key, deep down they know what Soulja Boy did. Eventually I will earn the respect. I just gotta keep putting in that work and eventually I will win a Grammy and all the awards I deserve. I just gotta prove myself.

What about the Twitter hashtags #ifsouljaboycouldrap or #rappersbetterthansouljaboy—when you see stuff like that, do you just laugh it off, or does it get to you?

When I see stuff like that it makes my ego get bigger. Because it’s like, damn, all these people are focusing on me—whether it’s good or it’s bad. I know that my music’s the s###. It’s only a certain group of people pushing that negative energy, so for all the other people that’s seeing it that f### with me, that makes them want to go harder for me. When I see stuff like that, I know it’s going to lead all these people to my name, period. It’s funny, but at the same time, it’s promotion.

What’d you do differently this album to make your raps more lyrical?

This time around I did a lot of research. I received a lot of constructive criticism, listened to different people’s opinions, and then I sat down and bought a whole bunch of different albums, and listened to them all the way through—really listened to the lyrics. I just wanted to hear what they were saying. I took from all of that and mixed it into one and I went ham.

Who were some of the people who gave you constructive criticism?

When I was in the studio with Kanye, when I was in the studio with Jamie Foxx—I’d just spit a verse and say, “Yo, what you really think about that? Give me you honest opinion.” After I got that, I really found out that my s### hot, and people are not saying it just to say it. They really think it’s dope.

What exactly was Kanye’s reaction?

Kanye said my s### was dope, man. I played him my second single, it’s called “Speakers Going Hammer.” Jimmy Iovine loves this record. He plays this record every day. So I played it for [Kanye] and he said, “Those were some dope f#####’ verses.” I said, “OK, that’s all I needed. [Laughs] I got the stamp.”

“I don’t want to kiss ass, but pay homage the right way. The older rappers, would respect that and be proud. Like, ‘Soulja Boy doing it right'”

What were some of the albums that you picked up to study and model yourself after?

I studied a whole lot of 2Pac: “Dear Mama,” “Ghetto Gospel” is one of my favorite ones, “Changes.” That was one of my favorite rappers of all time. And then a lot of people tell me I should listen to Nas, so I bought Hip-Hop Is Dead and listened to each song all the way through. I really dug Pac’s message. If more of the new-school rappers knew the history—because we was like, 9 and 10 when these dudes were in their prime—we could really make our older peers proud of us. Know our roots and what we’re rapping about.

Wow, that’s a total 180 from your spat with Ice T. When did you gain this newfound respect for your rap forefathers?

Let me think hard about this. It was like, the end of ’09. After I did the Wayne tour, I chopped it up with Busta Rhymes. He was like, “I f### with you, man.” I looked up Busta Rhymes and [realized] it’s so many people I meet on a daily basis that I don’t know at all, that used to be the s### in 1995. If I could learn about this whole game, about the past, I’d be more advanced as a new-school artist. I don’t want to kiss ass, but pay homage the right way. The older rappers, would respect that and be proud. Like, “that n#### Soulja Boy doing it right,” you know what I’m saying?

Who put you up on 2Pac?

To be honest, my moms put me up on Pac. But that was earlier on. My moms used to play Pac all the time. So I was like, “I came from my momma, and Pac is her favorite rapper, so let me just go do my research.” I’m in this game now and I ain’t goin’ nowhere, and I gotta be consistent with the hits, so let me do my knowledge.Looking back at your first two albums, do you think the rhymes were wack?

I ain’t gonna front. I heard some of my previous songs and I would just laugh, like, “damn.” I done came a long way. It’s crazy how people really f### with them songs, how they were successful. It’s crazy just to see my growth. It’s amazing.

Do you think the dance genre of hip-hop is starting to die out? Is that why you’re trying to go the more lyrical lane?

I can always pull a dance song off and swag that b#### real quick in any club. Because at the end of the day, n##### gon’ always dance. I don’t give a f### how gangster you is, how fine the girl is, how ugly she is, she gon’ be in the club shakin’ her ass. And the young n##### gon’ be in the club two stepping, trying to get on her. They’ve been dancing since the slave days. You couldn’t be lyrical in the slave days—n##### ain’t know words! But n##### was dancing, though.

So the album’s called The DeAndre Way. Why’d you dump the Soulja Boy title you rode with for the first two?

Well, the album—this is my whole life. This is the DeAndre way. For all the people outside looking in, you want to know the real story, you want to know how it’s going down, come take a listen. I’ma get real with them. Go government on ‘em.

“People try to downplay me and hate, but as far as causing physical harm, I don’t think it’s that serious. People might not like my music, but that’s as far as they take it.

Word is you have a record with Trey Songz.

Yeah, we just added Chris Brown on there, that’s going to be a hit. That’s going to be an R&B smash. It’s called “Hey Cutie.” My whole vision is I’m looking at the game and there ain’t no groups. I was like, “Yo, put Chris on the record and let’s do a group for this single and make all the ladies go crazy.”

What’s the name of the group?

Ah, man, I don’t even know yet. We gotta make one up.

What subject matter do you tackle on the album?

I got a song called “Born” that I go real ham on. I talk about since the day I was born, I been labeled as a n####. I was born into this lifestyle, born to be judged. I just really go into detail about that. Every person I played that for felt it. I came straight from the heart and I kept it real.Do you see yourself still rapping at age 40?

Age 40, still rapping? Nah, man. I’ma be like a Scarface boss. Super caked the f### up on a yacht. My son’s going to be a legend, though. He’s going to continue the legacy, but I’ma be somewhere caked up on a resort.

Is that something that you think about right now? Kids and having a family in the future?

Yeah. By 40 I imagine I’ll have a son and his mother will be beautiful and have some goals I can relate to. But I can’t be 40 saying Pretty… Boy… Swag.

Ha! You’ve already let go of the Soulja Boy shades, too.

Aw, man, because I got on my Pretty Boy Swag, man. The girls want to see who’s behind the shades. When I was younger, I used to think of myself like a superhero. Like, when I put the shades and hat on, I turned into Soulja Boy—a whole ’nother person. Once I grew up, I just took ‘em off and all the girls started jockin’ on me. I just never put them back on. [Laughs]

What is the youngest and the oldest you’d date?

The youngest being, what, 18. The oldest, uh, 35. Yeah, that’s good.

“I got a fanbase of kids that goes down as low as 10 years old, all the way up to grown people in their 30s. When the camera was on me, I wasn’t thinking about none of that.”

If you had to have one tattoo removed, which would it be?

Out of all my tattoos, I’d get the one on my right arm removed. It’s a tattoo of this goon ass n#### with two pistols. Every other tattoo on my body I cherish and got a deep meaning. I don’t know why I got that. [Laughs] It’s fresh, it just don’t got no meaning. I woke up the other day, like, man, there’s a n#### on my arm with two guns.

True. Has there ever an online moment that you regretted afterward?

Smoking on camera. I do regret that. I ain’t really want my fans to see that, because I got a fanbase of kids that goes down as low as 10 years old, all the way up to grown people in their 30s. When the camera was on me, I wasn’t thinking about none of that. And we all make mistakes, as long as you know what your mistake was and you be a man about it, people will forgive you and you can move on.

Has it been difficult accepting the fact that you’re a role model now and you kind of have to watch your actions?

Yeah, I didn’t realize that off top. I do believe that the parents should play a big role in these kids lives but I understand that in some of these kids lives I got more power than their parents. So that’s why I don’t take it to the super extreme. I don’t do no crazy s###. My basic message is to tell these kids be positive, get money, dance a little and have a little fun.

One of your biggest cosigns yet is Lil B. What do you think is his appeal?

Man, because he f### with your boy. I’m heavy on the Internet, any artist come connect with me on that level, you gon’ break into my fanbase online. If I introduce any artist online and he got something different about him, people are going to automatically mess with him.

He has an unusual approach—he takes shots at himself?

He don’t care, man. He’s sacrificing himself for the game. He’s showing people that n##### can call you all these different types of names, but at the end of the day, n##### is still successful, being positive and getting money. You can call me all kinds of names, sticks and stones and all of that s###, but at the end of the day, where am I?

He had an incident where he got snuffed on camera and the video leaked to the web. Is that kind of action ever a concern for you?

Nah. People try to downplay me and hate and get fame off me, but as far as causing physical harm, I don’t think it’s that serious. People might not like my music, but that’s as far as they take it.

GORILLA ZOE ARRESTED?

I’m not sure what this arrest means, but it looks like the cops demanded to see his ID and not showing it means you are breaking the law. If that is the case, that’s some bulllllllllllllllllllSHUCKS!

KEITH MURRAY CAN’T GET IN CANADA!

Zoe ain’t the only one. One of my Canadian connects hit me up and told me that Keith Murray has had a few issues with the law…this time in Canada. Apparently, the strict rules for entering Canada prevented Mr. Murray from entering our neighbor’s nation. The rapper was booked for a show in Downtown

Montreal, Canada. Whatever crimes Keith had done in the past were reflected at this time and they wouldn’t let him in, according to this source.

Apparently, the manager didn’t come either so a booked plane ticket and plush hotel in Canada were wasted! I would have made it! BOOK ME! I hear a lot of fans are saddened that Murray didn’t make it.FAN RUNS ON STAGE WITH 50 CENT AND GETS MOBB DEEPED UP BY SECURITY

Oscar Grant : The Trial, The Verdict & What the Mainstream Press Covered Up

Picture: Oscar Grant’s Uncle, Cephus Johnson aka Uncle Bobby along with Minister Keith Muhammad.

Sat July 10 Oakland, Ca: There was a press conference held at True Vine Church Here organizers along with the Oscar Grant family returned from Los Angeles and gave a Community Report Back. They go in on the jury and the press.

Minister Keith Muhammad started off by presenting a detailed break down of what took place in the courtroom. Here are the links below..followed by a brief summary of what was talked about…

http://www.swift.fm/mrdaveyd/song/50228/ pt1

http://www.swift.fm/mrdaveyd/song/50231/ pt2

http://www.swift.fm/mrdaveyd/song/50226/ pt3

Minister Keith talked about the jury and the way they deliberated. He noted the instructions given to the jury and the steps they were supposed to take in determining a verdict. He explained the delays that took place  and what they met. He noted the instructions Judge Robert Perry gave to them. Folks need to hear this portion of the press conference and keep in mind many of the concerns that Minister Keith and the Grant family raise around how quickly the jury returned a verdict. On many levels, it seems the jury didn’t fully deliberate at all.

The issue of the jury’s racial make up is talked about and how the lack of African-Americans raised cause for concern and impacted the verdict. Los Angeles is almost 25% white but was 75% on the jury. The claim that there were no Black jurors available was outlandish. Minister Keith outlines what Judge Robert Perry insisted upon in terms of selecting a jury. Many people felt the prosecutor David Stein dropped the ball. As was pointed during this press conference, he was handcuffed by the specific instructions and method dictated by Judge Perry…

What’s most troubling is what was not reported by the mainstream press around both the jury deliberation and instruction. They also spoke about how harshly the family was treated when the jury was finally reached a verdict. They weren’t even allowed in the courtroom, by callous guards..

Below is the link to the podcast detailing the Jury selection and deliberation as well as how the family was treated in court. Minister Keith also lays out some key issues that were presented in court but covered up by mainstream media… What should be noted was during his presentation much of the mainstream local media was present from KPIX to ABC etc..I would encourage folks to listen to the presentation which is in 2 parts and see if any of this is reported. Ask yourself why it hasn’t been in the news.

The Harsh Treament of Oscar Grant’s Friends Both That Night & On the Stand

Killer cop Johannes Mehsersle

In pt2 of the Community Report back… Minister Keith lays out the under reported treatment of Oscar Grant’s friends who sat on the platform and witnessed their friend be killed in front of them. He talks about the harsh treatment they received by the police including taunts after Grant was killed. He explains how the young men some as young as 15 were handcuffed and made to sit in jail handcuffed for over 6 hours after Grant was killed and then informed that they were NOT arrested and were free to go.. This is beyond heartbreaking

Minister Keith details the testimony the boys gave in court and the video footage they took while on the platform. Key aspects to the boys testimony including how the Johannes Mehserle‘s defense attorney Michael Rains tried to mock them and assassinate their character when they took the stand. Hearing about what Oscar Grant’s friends endured is beyond troubling.

Also included are details around the judge’s treatment. The boys when seeing the video broke down in court and the jury was instructed to leave.. They did not want their tears to impact the jury. With Mehserle the jury was allowed to stay when he cried. Minister Keith also explains how Mehserle was coached on how to cry..

Included in this portion is a lot of other key elements the mainstream press witnessed and was presented yet decided not to include in any of their reports. The most glaring was the behavior of Mehserle’s partners and them using racial epithets..

They also lay out the role, the money spent and conflicting testimony delivered by the expensive expert witnesses that Mehserle brought forth. He spent 65k on one witnesses who attempted to tell everyone the dozens of videos showing Grant’s shooting were unreliable and inconclusive.

He spent 50k on another expert witness a former cop named Greg Meyer who tried to tell us that Mehserle meant to use his taser. What the mainstream press ommited was showing how Mehserle ion several occasion brandish his taser that night in attempts to taunt and intimidate Grant and his friends who were never charged with anything or legally arrested. Grant took a picture of Mehserle holding the taser two minutes before was killed.

Lying cops Marysol Domenici and Tony Pirone

It was also pointed out that the officers and media claimed that Grants friends were out of control and threatening, however none of the videos or police reports indicate this.

What was also glaring were the lies told by Mehserle’s partners Tony Pirone and Marysol Dominci.

Below is the podcast to part 2.. This is very detailed,,pay close attention..please pass it around.

http://www.swift.fm/mrdaveyd/song/50231/

Uncle Bobby Speaks to the Letter of Apology Released by Johannes Mehserle

Cephus Johnson aka Uncle Bobby is the uncle to Oscar Grant. Here he talks emphatically about the ‘apology letter’ sent by Johannes Mehserle. He says its garbage and fake. He explains that the letter was never addressed to him, Oscar’s mother WandaTatiyana (Oscar’s daughter) or Sophena (the mother to Oscar’s daughter). He also talks about how Mehserle in his defense chose to assassinate Oscar’s character while invoking the policeman’s bill of rights to keep his hidden.

He noted that the letter was garbage and was as fake as the tears he shed on the stand. He said that Mehserle needs to spend 14 years in jail an then write a letter of apology and give it to the family privately. Cephus also explains the lies Mehserle detailed in his letter including how he attempted to attend to Grants aid after shooting him. Uncle Bobby points out that the video shows Mehserle handcuffing Oscar after he shot him..

Cephus also addresses the issue of violence during protest. he talks about police dressed as undercover agitating the crowds. Its later pointed out tht the family never called for violence. Its unfair to place blame on the family. Below is the podcast of the full press release and interview we did with Cephus Johnson. The video just shows a portion of his remarks.

Antonio Margarito Denied License in Nevada

Antonio Margarito was informed on Friday (July 9) that Nevada would not grant him a license, advising the former welterweight champion to take his request before the California State Athletic Board that originally suspended him.

Margarito was suspended for indefinitely last year following his January TKO loss to Shane Mosley, when it was discovered that his gloves contained illegal wraps with “plaster-like” residue.

Margarito’s promotional company Top Rank attempt earlier this year to get reinstated in California were denied by the California State Athletic Commission, forcing the Tijuana Tornado to have his May comeback bout in Mexico. His team has an appeal pending in California’s appellate court over the CSAC’s decision.

According to the NY State Athletic Commission, Margarito’s penance should be completed through the board that suspended him.

“The reasoning was, as part of his act of contrition and rehabilitation or remorse, whatever term- they used all different terms- that should include going back to the state that had the most knowledge of what occurred on this night on January of 2009 and give them the opportunity to weigh-in,” explained NYSAC executive director Keith Kizer to maxboxing.com. “They [Margarito’s legal representatives] had pointed out, ‘Well, he’s appealed the decision;’ he got affirmed by a superior court judge in California and now they’ve appealed that to the appellate court. So that’s still pending. And that was the reason they gave; his attorney actually said, ‘We advised him not to go to California because we have a legal pending matter against the California Athletic Commission.’”

“But obviously, they can still apply; it doesn’t preclude them from applying with the California commission. I’ve been informed by Top Rank; they plan to file an application with the California commission on Monday or Tuesday.”

The reason for the urgency on Top Rank’s part is the need for a substitute opponent for Manny Pacquiao should the fight with Floyd Mayweather fall through. There is a supposed “gag order” on the negotiations, but Pacquiao’s side has stated the impasse at this point is Mayweather’s insistence on receiving the lion’s share of the purse. Having Margarito as a replacement would offer a promotional angle of Pacquiao facing a huge, aggressive welterweight with an imposing chin. This would be much more attractive than the alternative, which Top Rank CEO verified is a Pacquiao-Cotto rematch.

But if Margarito cannot get licensed anywhere in the United States, Arum had stated there is a possibility of staging the fight in Mexico.

Donaire Dominates, Lopez Survives Early Scare for TKO Win

Showtime headliners Nonito Donaire and Juan Manuel Lopez both scored impressive KOs tonight (July 10), but it was Lopez who fought through an early knockdown to secure his win.

Fighting in his native Puerto Rico, Lopez made an immediate impact by staggering Bernabe Concepcion in the 1st with with a counter straight lefts. Concepcion stumbled across the ring and crashed into ropes, and Lopez stalked after him with more hooks. Concepcion tried to create space with a wide left hook only to be dropped to his knees by a compact right hook.

Concepcion made it to his feet at 6, but was still clearly dazed from the previous assault. Lopez pounced and punished him with 2 left hooks, forcing the challenger to give ground. A straight left momentarily froze Concepcion, who then stumbled back into a corner and appeared to be several seconds away from a clear stoppage loss.

A wise clinch saved him, and the Manny Pacquiao apprentice began backpedaling behind a high guard while trying to pick off the firepower coming from Juan Manuel Lopez.

But another left, this time a looping hook, cracked Concepcion behind his guard. Again he was hurt, but Concepcion rolled with the punches against the ropes before timing a hard left hook the stunned and dropped Lopez.

Lopex rose immediately, but the round ended before the damage could truly be assessed.

In the corner, JuanMa’s trainer Alex Caraballo warned him to settle down and advised the knockdown was the result of overconfidence.

The 2nd round saw Lopez capitalize on Concepcion’s zealousness. The challenger rushed in seeking to land another right hook, only to get planted on the canvas by a sharp straight left 17 seconds in. This time Lopez was patient by working behind the jab and clipping his foe with right hands. Concepcion was hurt by a right hook counter as he attempted his own. Trying in vain to stagger away, Lopez chased and dropped him with a short straight left to earn the stoppage.

The shootout featured only 1 landed jab and 38 power punches.

The win ensures that Lopez will meet Rafael Marquez on September 18 for Lopez’s WBO featherweight title. The fight is the classic “young lion vs. old lion” scenario, and represent the biggest test of Lopez’s career.

“Rafael Marquez is a great fighter, I’m looking forward to the fight,” he said in the post-fight interview.

Regarding the knockdown, Lopez detailed that is was simple carelessness.

“Sometimes you get a little overconfident even though I had the fight under control. He’s a great fighter, a strong fighter with a punch,” he said of Concepcion. “I have to learn never to be overconfident even though I knocked him out in the second round.”

Juan Manuel Lopez improved to 29-0, 26 KOs. Bernabe Concepcion falls to 28-3-1, 15 KOs.

On the undercard, Nonito Donaire worked out some early kinks with his southpaw stance experiment to score an impressive KO over Hernan Marquez.

In the early rounds Donaire went after Marquez with straight lefts. But the southpaw stance created openings for the challenger, who landed several solid right hooks. Donaire noted that Marquez was leaning in with his shots, and began to start timing left uppercuts that later proved decisive.

Donaire switched back to orthodox in round 5, and timed a beautiful left hook that dropped Marquez. The challenger was badly hurt and only survived by literally tackling the champion to the end the round.

Marquez had no answers for the quick counters Donaire was now landing from his natural orthodox stance. In the 8th, Donaire countered with a lethal left uppercut counter under a wild Marquez hook for a knockdown. The challenger was glassy-eyed as he beat the count, causing his corner to throw in the towel for the TKO stoppage.

In the post-fight interview, Donaire placed blame on Vic Darchinyan for their expected rematch not happening.

“It’s out of my hands, I’ve given him the opportunity for a rematch,” said Donaire, who improved to 24-1, 16 KOs. “I came in to sign the contract and they didn’t want to make it happen. As of now we have Fernando Montiel and other guys we can work on.”

The TKO loss brings Hernan Marquez’s record to 27-2, 20 KOs.

Golden Boy Promotions Suspended in NY

The NYSAC was very busy this week, handing down a suspension to Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions for violation of the Muhammad Ali Act.

The federal law carrying Ali’s name requires the disclosure of all fee disbursements and earnings pertaining to every party on the fight card (sanctioning bodies, fighters, promoters, etc.).

Golden Boy’s violation came on the Amir Khan-Paulie Malignaggi card held in Madison Square Garden on May 15. The card was aired on HBO and featured an opening bout with Victor Ortiz vs. Nate Campbell. Although the network underwrote a purse for $750,000, the fighters only received a total of $225,000 (Ortiz-$100,000, Campbell- $125,000), leaving over $500,000 unaccounted for. Whether the money was simply skimmed by Golden Boy or given to another party (possibly the main event pot) is still undetermined.

The suspension will run for 90 days.

Mayweather-Pacquiao Decision Coming By Next Friday (July 16)?

Camps for Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have been quiet over the last week regarding their negotiations. That is, everyone except Top Rank CEO and Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum.

Although Arum has previously stated his was bound legally to keep quiet, he recently disclosed that his team has a deadline on July 16 for both sides to come to an agreement. If not, he will move forward with trying to match the Filipino icon again with Miguel Cotto at 154, or Antonio Margarito in Mexico.

“They have until Friday (July 16) to sign,” Arum told Puerto Rico’s El Nuevo Dia newspaper yesterday (July 10). “If they say no we’ll go with Pacquiao-Cotto rematch at 154 but we have to wait.”

On Friday (July 9), Arum appeared to be leaning more towards the Cotto rematch.

“If Mayweather passes and we have no Mayweather fight for November 13, than [Pacquiao’s] going to probably fight Margarito November 13,” he explained to maxboxing.com. “And we’ll try again with the Nevada commission for a conditional license and if we fail in that, we’ll go fight in Mexico.”

Whether the next Friday deadline is legit or not, it’s sheer lunacy if Mayweather-Pacquiao does not get finalized. A Cotto rematch is unnecessary and very bad for the longevity of Miguel’s career. And until Margarito takes responsibility for his role in the hand wrap issue he shouldn’t be fighting anywhere. The failed negotiations earlier this year were a sad display of everything that is wrong with boxing politics. Another breakdown goes further and damages the legacies of both men, as it would be twice that Mayweather and Pacquiao failed to meet the biggest challenge of their careers.

If July 16 is indeed the deadline, there is more at stake than mere dollar signs.

Shot of the Week

This wasn’t the knockout punch, but it set the tone for what was to follow. Before the fight Henry Lundy called John Molina a “stupid fighter,” but the only one who looked foolish here was Lundy. Check out Lundy trying to tell the referee that he “slipped.” This was the main event for ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, and the full recap along with ShoBox’s Friday card can be read here. And check out the woman in the pink sweater’s face in the bottom right hand corner (starting at the 2:05 mark). Priceless LOL
