BP Oil Spill Disaster: Hip-Hop SPEAKS

The BP Oil Spill is already one of the worst man made disaster in the history of humans, with an estimated 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons) of oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. That is a mere estimate though, as other expert suggest BP could have as much as 800,000 to a million gallons going into the seas and oceans. The oil spill has already traveled to other areas and currents are expected to take it into the Atlantic Ocean. The natural gas and oil will wreak untold harm on the environment and human beings as well. AllHipHop talked to a few Hip-Hop artists (including Baby of Cash Money, Asher Roth and DJ Kid Capri) and got their take on the crisis and we offer a live feed of the spill (courtesy of Congress and PBS.org)

Here is a live feed of the oil gusher beneath the sea.

Drake, Gucci, Rick Ross, Other Stars Perform at Sold Out Summer Jam

(AllHipHop News) Another star-studded edition of Hot 97’s annual Summer Jam was completed last night (June 6), and featured standout performances from new and veteran artists alike. The show took place in a front of a sold-out crowd of over 70,000 people at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Several stars vied for “showstopper” accolades. Trey Songz enamored his female base with highly sexually suggestive theatrics to his hits from Ready, Trey Day, and I Gotta Make It. Nicki Minaj was the most prominent artist of evening, performing 4 different sets to accommodate all of her recent high-profile guest appearances with Ludacris, Usher, and her own Young Money camp. DJ Khaled was widely praised backstage as having the performance of the night. Billed for the event as “DJ Khaled and Friends,” the energetic Miami native stormed the stage with an estimated 100 plus entourage, and brought out Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Barrington Levy, Cam’Ron, and Vado to huge ovations. Although Juelz Santana also completed a set, the rumored Dipset Reunion did not take place. Drake was on hand to perform selections from So Far Gone and his upcoming Thank Me Later debut. The Toronto emcee took time out to acknowledge incarcerated label mate Lil Wayne, and got down on his knees to thank his fans who’ve helped bring him from his humble acting beginnings to music superstardom. The show was rounded out with additional performances by Reflection Eternal, Maino, Fabolous, Funk Master Flex, T-Pain, Estelle, Fabolous, Gucci Mane, and Waka Flocka.

Juvenile Talk Beast Mode; Down With Hot Boys Reunion

(AllHipHop News) New Orleans based rapper Juvenile is gearing up to release his second project this summer on E1 Records, called Beast Mode, the follow up to December’s release Cocky and Confident.  “This my baby right here man,” Juvenile told AllHipHop.com of his new project. “It’s that up tempo street s###. The first single is for the women, ‘Drop that Ass’. You know its summer time. The last album, I was trying to get to the fellas, so I want to make sure I keep it balanced.“Despite being busted for smoking weed in February 2010, while recording material for Beast Mode, Juvenile included an ode to marijuana on Beast Mode. “I got a song on there called ‘Lalalala’ is kind of like our weed record and we kinda turn that on when we bout to get our smoke on,” Juvenile revealed to AllHipHop.com.  I got another song on there called “Nasty Girl”, and that’s gonna be one of those real, freaky, freaky, freaky records man, its crazy man (laughs).”While the album will have no features, Juvenile is looking forward to finding features for the remixes on his upcoming project.“You know for me I like to get artist on the remix. ‘Drop that Ass’ is out right now and I’m searching for cats on the remix, but I would rather have an artist on the remixes instead of on the album because I want people to hear it on the radio. That’s not giving the fans you, but you have fans that want to see that, so it’s just better when you do it as a remix.”Juvenile also gave some positive hints about the chances of a Hot Boys reunion.“I really want to do that. You know if it were left up to Juvie we would do it right now man, But you cant do no Hot Boys songs without everyone present and that’s the thing you got to have everyone present to make it work.”Speaking on his contact with other Hot Boys members, specifically Lil’ Wayne who is currently incarcerated on Rikers Island in New York, Juvenile said. “I just need the information so I can write him. I’ve been need to get an address so I can write him.”

Fab Five Freddy Talks VH1 Hip-Hop Honors Drama, Success

Filmmaker/Hip-Hop Honors executive producer Fab 5 Freddy recently spoke to AllHipHop.com about the “2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South,” special, which pays homage to southern rap music. As soon as word broke that the show would pay tribute to the South, it was also revealed that a number of artists from the ultra-successful region were unhappy with their treatment at the hands of VH1. Miami pioneer Luke Campbell was the first to tell AllHipHop.com that he was very displeased with not being recognized as an entrepreneur, while Houston’s living legend Scarface revealed he was unhappy with VH1 labeling the region “Dirty” in the show’s title. In addition to some bad press, a few rappers were vocal about not attending the show. Heavyweights like Young Jeezy and Plies will all be absent, although Fab 5 told AllHipHop.com that the majority of the South has supported the tribute. Rappers like Bun B., Trick Daddy, David Banner, Master P., Jermaine Dupri, Rick Ross, Mystikal, Trina, Gucci Mane, Game and a number of others will be featured during the “2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South.”Whether you agree or disagree, VH1 does deserve props for snagging Fab 5 Freddy and Nelson George, two very noted filmmakers/producers who have helped paved the way for Hip-Hop on the TV and in movies. This year’s show will air on Monday at 9:00 PM EST on VH1. Check out Fab Five Freddy’s take on executive producing the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors:Check out various artists’ take on the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

(Pics) Kanye’s Porshe Stolen, Crashed Through Multi-Million Dollar Home

(AllHipHop News) Police in Hawaii are investigating a car crash involving a vehicle registered to superstar rapper Kanye West, who is working on his new album on the island. The bizarre incident began around 4:00 AM when neighbors were awakened to a “tremendous crash” and found that a Porsche Panamera had crashed through the garage of a house across the street early Saturday morning. Although West is recording the album in Hawaii, sources stated that he was traveling at the time of the crash. Sources told local TV station KITV that West’s cousin had permission to drive the vehicle. Witness said they saw three men run from the car, which caused serious damage to the front of the multi-million dollar house, which is undergoing renovations. "I walked over to see if anyone was dead or people in the car because I could smell liquids and I could hear them draining and no one was there," said neighbor, Chris Cooper.According to police, the car was reported stolen just hours after it crashed into the garage.

Knockout Nation: Cotto KO’s an Injured and Brave Foreman, Mayweather’s Latest Retirement, Khan’s New Fight!

Cotto’s Wins Title in 3rd Weight Class

Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) made a successful comeback last night at Yankee Stadium by finishing off a hobbled Yuri Foreman (28-1, 8 KOs) with a patented left hook body shot in the 9th round.

Early on, a disciplined Cotto had little problems with Foreman’s darting lateral movement. The Puerto Rican star consistently threw the jab with conviction and visibly stunned Foreman in the opening 2 rounds. Foreman’s backpedaling prevented Cotto from getting set to fire power punches, but he still controlled the 3rd and 4th rounds and proved to be the harder puncher.

Sensing he was behind, Foreman uncharacteristically came out in rounds 4 and 5 with guns blazing. The studying Rabbi blasted Cotto with sharp straight rights, which Cotto took well. Foreman’s speed was the difference in the round, as the challenger was having difficulty picking off the shots and being able to counter before the champion darted out of position.

After a tactical 6th round, Cotto began pressing Foreman more in the 7th. The champion slipped in a corner due to his knee giving out, and for the rest of the round Foreman was strafed with left hooks and uppercuts. Foreman’s attempts to trade left him worst off, as Cotto was able to walk through his shots and land the more damaging combinations.

Foreman was clearly slowing down in the 8th, presenting himself a more manageable target for Cotto’s trademark body attack. Disaster hit in the round when Foreman’s knee gave out again and he painfully wobbled on his feet to continue. With no movement Foreman’s only chance at victory was lost. Cotto pounced on him with debilitating hooks and uppercuts. Foreman began winning the crowd with his valiant attempt to trade, but he was visibly being broken down and the end seemed moments away.

Suddenly, a bloody towel flew in the ring which normally signals a corner retirement. Referee Arthur Mercante, Jr  looked towards the champion, who expressed his desire to fight on. After several minutes, Mercante was able to clear the ring and ordered the fight to continue, a move that may start an exciting, but dangerous new precedent in the sport.

The 9th proved to be the end of Yuri Foreman’s reign as champion. His corner urged him to slip and turn his body to blunt Cotto’s power, but this was not Foreman’s style. The coup de grace came courtesy of a thudding left hook to Foreman’s right side, which caused him to fall back into the ropes before slowly crumpling to the canvas.

Mercante didn’t bother to give a count, and could be heard praising Foreman for his effort as Cotto celebrated his 4th overall world title.

Cotto clearly felt redeemed by his effort and addressed his critics that felt his career was effectively ended by the punishing fight last November with Manny Pacquiao.

“I proved this night, everybody who said Miguel Cotto was finished, everybody failed,” Cotto told HBO’s Max Kellerman.

Foreman was applauded by the 20,000 plus fans in attendance after explaining why he refused to quit once he suffered the bad knee injury.

“I’m not quitting…I’m a world champion,” Foreman explained. “I didn’t want to stop. I wanted to continue.”

Where does Cotto go from here? Following the fight, welterweight Andre Berto called him out on Twitter for a fight. Cotto’s promoter Bob Arum has expressed the desire to pit him against Pacquiao and Margarito in rematches to the only losses of his career. In addition, there are possible exciting 154 matchups against Paul Williams and Alfredo Angulo.

This was a good albeit safe comeback fight for Cotto. He remained very composed and worked well behind his jab, evidence of his work with new trainer Emmanuel Steward. But to throw him back in with Pacquiao or Margarito would be unwise. It’s foolish to think he’s worn off the effects of those losses, particularly the Pacquiao beating, in just one fight. Ideally, he should pick up another belt against another 154 pounder such as Cory Spinks, and then seek out a big bout against either Andre Berto, Paul Williams, or Alfredo Angulo. All three would be action fights that would be winnable, especially under Steward.

Whatever he decides, it’s safe to say that rumors of Miguel Cotto’s demise as an elite fighter were very premature.

Mayweather to Take 2 Years Off?

It was thought for the last few weeks that representatives for Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were initiating preliminary talks for a possible showdown this November. But a recent statement by Floyd not only puts that fight again in doubt, but also Mayweather’s future as an active fighter.

Floyd Mayweather conducted an interview after participating in a Make a Wish Foundation event, where he met with 17 year old Armando Carral who suffers from Hodgkin’s disease.

“Floyd Mayweather is taking a year off or a couple of years off from boxing. I don’t really know what the future holds for him,” Mayweather said while sitting next to Carral, who expressed that he wants to see his favorite fighter take on Pacquiao next. “As I said, I want to take a year off from boxing. I’m taking a couple years off… away from the sport of boxing. I want to devote my time to my boxing gym.”

Many in the press are already speculating that the reason for Mayweather’s abrupt comments were due to him being upset with Manny Pacquiao receiving Fighter of the Decade honors from the Boxing Writer’s Association of America on Friday (June 5).

Top Rank and Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum, learning from his wild media comments in February that helped sink the first Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations, was more reserved in his response to the Mayweather interview.

“I’m telling you now, I’ve had long conversations with him, Manny Pacquiao’s first goal is to get Mayweather in the ring and this whole drug-testing nonsense . I think it was nonsense, but Manny has now agreed,” Arum said prior to Cotto-Foreman last night.”He’s agreed so now that’s not an issue. So now the ball’s in Mayweather’s court and if Mayweather doesn’t fight him, that’s Mayweather’s decision and he has every right to make that decision. If I was Mayweather I wouldn’t want to fight Pacquiao either…I live there [Las Vegas] and I’ve no problem with the fight being in Vegas, and I know Manny has no problem either.”

Mayweather has made retirement a negotiation tool since 2006. Following his welterweight title-winning effort against Carlos Baldomir, he retired in a tearful post-fight press conference, but later signed off to face Oscar De La Hoya in his next fight. After beating Ricky Hatton in late 2007, he told HBO’s Larry Merchant that he wouldn’t let boxing “retire him” and that he planned to hang up the gloves rather than face Miguel Cotto. While in negotiations for a De La Hoya rematch in 2008, Mayweather again announced his retirement and did not return to the ring until September 2009.

Based on his past history, it’s not farfetched to see Mayweather actually stay out of the ring for the next year or so, forcing Pacquiao into fighting Antonio Margarito or a rematch with Miguel Cotto.

As hard as it is for these guys to keep quiet when a microphone or camera is pushed in front of them, I  hope that from now on both camps will give a simple “no comment” when asked about the fight. Let them finish up all the details behind closed doors. Until then, the boxing world can focus on fights that have been signed.

Amir Khan to Face Joel Casamayor on July PPV Card

Not even a full month after dominating Paulie Malignaggi in his U.S. debut, Amir Khan will now face former lightweight champion Joel Casamayor on July 31 in Las Vegas as a part of the Juan Diaz-Juan Manuel Marquez PPV card.

Khan had talked about facing the big names of the junior welterweight division, but many of them are tied up for the rest of the summer. Timothy Bradley is set to face Luis Carlos Arbegu on July 17, and Devon Alexander faces Andriy Kotelnik (who Khan defeated last year) on August 7. Even Marcos Maidana is currently out of action with a back injury.

This leaves Golden Boy with the Casamayor bout as essentially a stay busy fight until a bigger name can be secured for the fall.

Joel Casamayor has only fought one 8 rounder since being stopped by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2008, and is considered on the slide. The Cuban veteran intends to shock fans and believes Khan and the other young junior welterweights are extremely overrated.

“July 31 is a go. Come July 31 lightning is going to strike twice because I’m going to knock Amir Khan out dead. I want to let the people know that I’m up for this fight. A lot of people are putting bad things out there,” Casamayor stated. “Timothy Bradley, Maidana, and Alexander, these guys have done nothing for this sport. What have they done for this sport? I’m a 4-time world champ in 2 weight classes. Amir Khan has done nothing either and come July 31 I’m going to prove that he’s a nobody.”

I believe all fighters should be more active and at least try to get in 3-4 bouts a year. And in Khan’s case, his options for a top fight are indeed frozen at this time. But it’s more credible if he could have at least secured a genuine junior welterweight for this fight. Casamyor is going to get blown out badly and Khan will get nothing from it except a decent workout.

On the bright side, this is on PPV and won’t use up valuable TV dates.

News and Notes

–          Wladimir Klitschko allegedly offered David Haye a 50-50 contract with no options. No word from Haye’s camp.

–          Andre Berto is considering moving down to junior welterweight. He currently holds the WBC welterweight title and defeated Carlos Quintana by TKO in April.

–          Pacquiao’s camp sees the Cotto rematch as the main backup if the Mayweather fight can’t be made. According to Bob Arum, Las Vegas will be the likely site for Mayweather-Pacquiao.

–          WBO 154 pound titlist Sergiy Dzinziruk has sent a proposal to WBC titlist Sergio Martinez for a unification bout. Martinez is also the lineal middleweight champion courtesy of his recent win over Kelly Pavlik.

DRAKE DISSES LIL KIM!

I know Kim is in a “space” in her career, but it is time for somebody to take the highroad. I guess Drake’s GPS was a lil busted, because he took time out of his concert to address Kim.

In concert, Drake said” “”I Don’t Give A F*ck What Lil Kim Is Talking About. You The Baddest Woman To Ever Do This Sh*t” Talking to Nickie Minaj

“Ever” is a very open-ended term, but I know Drake is riding for his gal!

NICKI TOO…

Nicki didn’t comment directly, but she came close.

IN KIM’S DEFENSE

People are talking about Nicki and Rick Ross being the “new” Biggie and Kim as if Kim isn’t here any more. I think we need to let Nicki be herself (I know what critics have to say already) and let Kim do her thing. I mean, we should allow a few more females in the game.

SPEAKING OF FEMALES….

My illseed rap “contest” is still doing, but right now I am totally focused on FEMALE RAPPERS! If you are an MC, send me a YOUTUBE of your song and lets go!!!!!

BREAKING NEWS: Louisiana Teenager Indicted for Rapper Murder, 5 Others

(AllHipHop News) A 17-year-old Baton Rouge, LA teenager named Michael Louding has been charged with murdering regional rapper Chris “Nussie” Jackson and five other men in a string of killings dating back to February 2009.

The murder indictment was announced yesterday (June 4) by Louisiana’s East Baton Rouge Parish, and the teen faces five counts of 1st degree murder, one count of 2nd degree murder, and two counts of attempted 1st degree murder.

Last year, Dope Family Family rapper Chris “Nussie” Jackson died following a gunshot wound to the head on February 9. He was 33 years old.

Trill Entertainment rapper Lil Boosie was named as a primary suspect, with FBI agent Anthony Jung stating his bureau received information that Boosie initiated the slaying by placing a $30,000 hit on Jackson. Before his death, the two had been feuding on wax with Boosie recording the diss song “What Goes Up Must Come Down.”

Boosie was never charged, and is currently in the second year of a four year sentence for drug possession.

In March, Trill Entertainment CEO’s Melvin Vernell Jr. and Marcus Roach were cleared of the 2005 attempted murder of another local rapper, Bruce “Beelow” Moore. Moore was shot twice in the face outside of his store-front business, in a crime prosecutors claimed was over Moore’s bootlegging of Louisiana artists. The case was dismissed due to the prosecution taking more than two years to try the men.

In addition to the February 2009 Nussie murder, Michael Louding faces charges for killing Marcus Thomas (April 2009), Terry Boyd (October 2009), Michael Smith (December 2009), Charles Matthews, and Darryl Milton. The latter two are the most recent crimes, with both being murdered on April 1, 2010 while sitting in a parked car.

Three other teenagers from Baton Rouge ranging in age from 16 to 19 will also face 1st degree murder counts in the Milton and Matthews slayings.

On Monday (June 7), both state and federal officials are expected to be present at a news conference revealing more details about the case.

At press time, it is unknown whether Michael Louding and his accomplices acted alone, or were part of a larger criminal conspiracy.

Hip-Hop Rumors: The “Hit Man” Rapper Is Revealed!

GET HIM TO THE GREEK!

Check out the trailer of the movie featuring Diddy and some others TONIGHT!!!!!!

YEAH – REMEMBER THAT ARTIST – THE ALLEGED HIT MAN?

So, here is the deal. The blind item becomes unblind. From what I have been told, the local Baton Rouge, Louisiana law enforcement WANTS LIL BOOSIE. They want him bad. Right now Boosie is currently serving a four-year prison sentence for drug and gun possession, but my sources say that was just to tuck him away for a spell. They really want to get him because they think he put a hit on somebody. They think Lil Boosie put a 15 year old kid up to the job and the kid did the job well. Now, somebody is dead or shot (I’m not sure, but I am assuming the person is dead). The boy has been caught and the coppers have been drilling him crazy (pause) for information on Boosie. The cops don’t care about this kid and they see Boosie as the big fish. They are building this huge case against him while he is in jail. Anyway, the 15-year-old boy not only has the cops on his neck, but his MOM is rumored to be applying major pressure on him to talk. I don’t think he’s talked yet, but if he does, Boosie will have a bigger problems than his present 4-year bid.

DRAKE STICKS TO THE 15TH

I guess Drake and company are not too scared of this super leak. There was a rash of bad information that hit the internet earlier that was highly “misinformative” stating that Drake was coming out a week early. No. He’s not. Now, I am hearing that insiders within the label are expecting Drizzy to do Lil Wayne numbers on this. Not sure though, with a 2 week leak, that sounds crazy. Wayne and Jay had leaks too so we’ll see if the marketing plan plays out.

HA! You know Eminem. That dude wont let a person out of the studio when a song, Jack! Even if you are on it or produced it! HA! So, can you imagine getting a song from a person authorized to give it? Yeah, that means  you rock with it! That’s exactly what happened yesterday with the song from Eminem and Pink. It wasn’t my style so I really didn’t listen, but the “internets” did, even if they didn’t like it. So, after getting this authorized song “leak” a few hours later, the RIAA comes “knocking” with a cease and desist letter. LOL…Anyway…the games, the game…the game.

Combs simultaneously promoted his new movie Get Him to the Greek, which opens in theaters today. The film, which was shot on a budget of $40 million dollars, stars Diddy as “Sergio Rome,” the owner of Pinnacle Entertainment. He hires a young aspiring music executive played by Jonah Hill (Superbad, Knocked Up) to bring fictional English rocker Aldous Snow from London (Russell Brand) to Los Angeles’ Greek Theater for the start of a $100 million dollar comeback concert. Dame Dash’s Ex Accuses Mogul Of Harrassing Son and Lying In Court

(AllHipHop News) Roc-A-Fella Records boss Damon Dash has been hit with a $1 million lawsuit by his ex-wife, who claims the rap mogul provided phony emails during a court battle involving their son. According to documents filed in court, Linda Williams claims that Damon Dash is harassing his own son, Damon II. Williams claims Damon Dash held the 17-year-old against his will after he was caught DJ’ing in a New York city nightclub. Afterwards, it is alleged that Dash held the teen against his will in his apartment. The New York Daily News also reports that Damon Dash allegedly lied to the NYPD when Williams attempted to obtain a restraining order against him. Then, Dash allegedly provided bad testimony in court and submitted 10 fake emails that Williams claims were faked to prove that she violated a Family Court protective order, which she denies.

Drake’s Album Bumped Up

(AllHipHop News) After being pushed back several times, rapper Drake’s album has been moved up from its original release date.

The album leaked earlier in the week, a full two weeks before the initial release date of June 15.

The new date is now Tuesday June 9th.

Drake has previously expressed his feelings on the leak of Thank Me Later, his first full-length release.

“I gave away free music for years, so we’re good over here … just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!” Drake said on his twitter.

Thanks Me Later includes appearances by Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Bun B and others.

Most recently, Drake performed the UGK/Rap-A lot dedication at the 2010 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors.
