Soulja Boy Hits #1 with ‘Kiss Me’ Single

Teen sensation Soulja Boy has found his second smash hit courtesy of the chart-topping popular single “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.”

This week, the Sammie-assisted track reached #1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 Radio chart.

On Billboard’s Hot Ringmaster’s list, it has remained the #1 ringtone for the last 8 weeks with sales exceeding 1 million.

The popularity of the song was helped this week by a 1300 spin-increase in radio markets.

The move resulted in the song’s listening public expanding to 107 million.

After receiving steady criticism in 2008 over his legitimacy as a Hip-Hop artist, the young superstar feels his latest work shows a marked improvement in his musicianship.

“My fans let me know, enough with [those] dancing songs for now,” Soulja Boy Tell’Em explained to AllHipHop.com in a statement.

“Now it’s time to do great music like ‘Kiss Me Thru the Phone.’ It’s a real record, no gimmick. It’s a catchy record because that’s what my fans want.”

Soulja Boy will complete a taping this weekend for BET’s “Spring Bling,” and is set to appear May 15 on the CW Network sitcom “The Game.”

At press time, he is also finalizing plans for a cross-country tour for Summer 2009. Soulja Boy’s sophomore album, iSouljaBoyTellem, was released last December.

His latest single, “Turn My Swag On,” is #61 on Billboard’s Top 100.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Pharrell Spazzes On Crowd! Nas, Jr. On The Way! Rhianna’s Tat Facts!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

RIHANNA’S NEW TAT – THE FACTS

Its so funny to see and read people’s comments about Rihanna’s new tats. Now everybody is a Photoshop expert or they know henna based on a pretty blurry image. Anyway, the reality is, she DID get at least three lil gun tats. MTV actually talked to the artist, BangBang, and he gave the official commentary on the tats.

“She flew me out for the purposes of tattooing one of her friends. I’ve tattooed her a few times, and she gave me a call and asked if I could come out to her house. I wound up tatting her as well. We’ve been playing with it for about a year, and I was at her house, and I suggested she finally get the gun.” There you have it. It is not Photoshop, henna and…Chris Breezy best be easy!

NAS’ NEXT MOVE – BIG THINGS!

Nas is the man. He and Damian Marley had an event last night in Los Angeles and Nas addressed a few rumors floating. My boy Dr. Knocboots told me that Nas said he’s been attempting to do a pair of albums with Nas and Preemo and release them within a year of each other. Well, it is not looking like either will happen soon. Nas said that Dre is hard at work on Detox. On the flip side, I was told that Detox was on hold, but I think I will believe Nas. He said he was still trying to make something happen with Preemo. Good luck! As for the album with Damian Marley, that album is called Distant Relatives. You heard it here first! Marley is going to produce the whole album, which will come out this summer. Part of the proceeds from the album will go to African charities.

NAS JR. IS ON THE WAY!

Here is another breaking rumors/story for you all. Nas is reportedly having a boy AND he’s going to name the kid, Nasir Jones, Jr. How awesome is that? Its great to see rappers become GROWN ADULTS and still be about the art and business of Hip-Hop.

ILLSEED QUICKIES

Gucci Mane is not in jail again. He managed to make it down to Greenville SC. Shout out to Tone!

I heard that Beyonce had a bit of trouble selling out a show and dropped the tickets to $20. Generally, they give them away.

Rumor has it, Jim Jones may seek to sue the NYPD for harassment and refusing to let him in his own album release parties.

Rumor has it Dame Grease, Max B, and Young Chris are all in the studio working on music. Not a bad look for Hip-Hop!

RANDOM QUOTES

This is not a good look for Meth! Drugs..smh!

“Myself, I’m a pothead,” he added. “It’s no secret. Everyone knows that. I go on the road and forget everything else. Sure, [the tax department] sent letters to my house saying, ‘We need this money.’ They started sending them in 2002. … Here it is, 2009, and I never paid this sh** because I don’t think like that!”

Ashanti is ready to get married to me…I mean, Nelly.

“Absolutely. [Marriage is] in the cards for me. I believe that I have a couple more things I need to do before that happens. But it is coming for me”PHARRELL SPAZZES ON CROWD!

I heard this was the scene over at Emory College! First, Pharrell is singing at a Mickey D’s and now this? Check it out.

“He sounds like my f***kin’ third grade teacher,” one girl said.”

F**K YOU, SERENA!!!!!

You know, Serena already has a lot of the men drooling and then she does something like this:

She looks so good, I have to hate. LOL. I know that is backwards, but it helps me cope with the fact that that will never me mine EVER.

OBAMA SONNING THE REPORTER

This is pretty old, but it was a class A, presidential sonning.

JUDGE PROTECTS THE WITNESSES…OR SNITCHES?

I know its just a matter of time, but a dude was testifying against another dude. The witness gets attacked and then the judge aka Captain-Save-A-Snitch jumps in to the rescue. Excuse my snitch comments, I just love the fact that dude is a snitch just by the sheer fact that he’s a witness by some standards.

T.I. Surprises Atlanta Fans With Appearance

Just hours after receiving a one year federal prison sentence for his infamous October 2007 arrest for firearms possession, rapper T.I. surprised Atlanta fans with an impromptu appearance Friday night (March 27) alongside Grand Hustle’s newest star B.o.B.

Billed as the “D.C. x ATL” concert, the show, which took place at the CW Loft in Midtown Atlanta, originally boasted B.o.B, who now performs as Bobby Ray, and Interscope recording artist Wale as headliners.

The show featured some of the brightest up-and-coming talent from both cities, including Colin Munroe, who is signed to Dallas Austin’s Atlanta-based Rowdy Records; Playboy Tre, who often tours with B.o.B.; and Atlanta-based D.C. native Haziq, co-CEO of Tabi Bonney’s Sky Republic imprint.

Concert goers were treated to much more than they expected when T.I. appeared onstage to perform “On Top of the World” with B.o.B, which they followed with a freestyle backed only by a drummer.

After thanking the crowd for their support, the Grand Hustle leader made way for Big Kuntry.

Prior to T.I.’s appearance, fellow Grand Hustle artists Mullage and Killer Mike also performed.

On Friday afternoon, US District Judge Charles Pannell approved a plea agreement entered by T.I. and his legal team in March of 2008.

In exchange for his guilty plea on charges of illegal firearms possession and being a convicted felon with a firearm, the rapper, born Clifford Harris, was sentenced to serve one year and one day in prison.

He must also pay a fine of $100,000 and serve 500 hours of community service in addition to the 1,000 he had to complete over the last year.

T.I. is slated to being serving his time no earlier that May 19.

Akon’s Brother Fires Back at T-Pain’s Father

On Wednesday (March 25), T-Pain’s estranged father and former manager Shaheed Najm released a venomous tirade against Akon and his brother Bu, accusing the pair of using lies and deception to cause a rift with his superstar son.

Today the brothers are battling back against the explosive allegations, beginning with Najm’s claim of the pair unethically ending his management duties for his son.

“The allegations that were made by T Pain’s father, Shaheed Najm, about my brother and I are absolutely not true,” stated Bu, brother of Akon and CEO of Akon’s Konvict Muzik, which currently has T-Pain, Akon, Kardinal Offishall, Lady Ga Ga, Red Café and others on the roster.

“We did not sell his son a dream nor did we take away his management duties,” Bu told AllHipHop.com. “It’s been six years since we signed T-Pain, so why wait until now to make allegations like these?”

According to Najm, the pair made lavish and untrue promises to his son, which caused T-Pain to end his management services.

Countering this point, Bu argues fans and critics only have to look at T-Pain’s career today to decide whether promises weren’t kept.

“T Pain is doing great financially and has made huge strides and accomplishments in his musical career,” Bu explained. “If I was in your home six years ago selling your son a dream, I think it is safe to say the dream became a reality for your son. I don’t know any new or existing artist that wouldn’t want their career to sky rocket the way T Pain’s career did.”

Although saddened to hear T-Pain’s current strained relationship with his father, Bu is focused on taking both Akon and T-Pain to greater heights.

“Right now it’s Konvict and Nappy Boy season and we are focusing on our new artists Prynce, American Yard, Tay-Dizm, Travis McCoy and Sophia Fresh,” he stated. After reviewing all of the accusations made, it is clear to me that this is really a financial issue.”

At press time, T-Pain has yet to personally comment on his father’s accusations.

Cam’ron Proclaims No Dipset Reunion

Cam’ron has emphatically ended the hopes that fans had for a musical reunion of The Dipomats, the Harlem-based group he founded.

“I’m not doing the Diplomat album. I’m not rhyming with Jim or Juelz or nothing. I wish them all the best of luck,” he said. “Accept it, people, its not happening. I’m not doing it.”

Jim Jones told New York radio station Hot 97 that wanted to see the group record again.

“For the most part I’ve been selfish about a lot of things this past year,” Jones said. “I’m just extending my hand to the contribution of getting this Diplomat business done. If Cam’ron is listening, maybe we could sit down to get some business together and give the people what they want.”

Cam’s bold proclamation is a very different notion than a recent interview with AllHipHop.com, where he stated the right compensation could make the reunion happen.

Cam’ron also stated that he was forming new artists in his organization.

“I got different artists. I don’t really want to say their names, because we’re in the process of doing paperwork and I’m not a person who counts their chickens before they hatch,” Cam’ron told AllHipHop.com. “But it’s about to be something that’s about to pop off real major, it’s gonna be hot.”

As for the reunion with Juelz Santana and Jim Jones, Cam’ron tells fans to wipe the thought from their minds.

“Cam is doing Cam. I’m not doing Diplomatic Immunity 3 album. I’m not doing it. Stop dreaming. Stop wishing. Stop hoping. Stop imagining.”
