Though the Golden Globes largely snubbed Selma, the film making waves for it’s depiction of Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., it still performed well in theatres over the weekend, debuting at number two just behind Taken 3.
Directed by Ava Duvernay, despite criticism over the portrayal of former President Lyndon B. Johnson, it’s also garnered praise for showing the fight to have illegal voting laws repealed following years of racism in the South.
