(AllHipHop News) The iconic hip-hop record label founded by music mogul Andre Harrell is set to become the focus of a new TV miniseries.
Uptown will chronicle the 1986 launch and stellar rise of “Uptown Records,” which helped to put stars like Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Al B. Sure, Teddy Riley, Heavy D & The Boyz, and the Notorious B.I.G. on the map.
It was also where Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs got his start, famously working his way up the ranks from his initial position as an intern.
The scripted, three-part show will be executive produced by Harrell for the BET network.
“We are proud to bring the story of Uptown Records to life and celebrate the indelible imprint the label has made on the industry, transforming the sound, face, and business of hip-hop and R&B,” Scott Mills, president of BET Networks, shares in a statement.
“We look forward to partnering with music industry titan Andre Harrell and powerhouse producer Jesse Collins on the Uptown miniseries, bringing viewers premium content that reflects and celebrates Black excellence.”
Harrell adds, “I am thrilled to partner with BET Networks and Jesse Collins Entertainment to share my story, the rise of Uptown Records and successful black entrepreneurship, and the management and cultivation of some of the most iconic artists to come out of the late 80s and 90s hip hop, R&B, and soul music era.”
Uptown is expected to premiere next year.
