South By South Bronx Festival to Celebrate Rap’s Cultural Birthplace

(AllHipHop News) Legends and lore about The Bronx and its role in birthing Hip-Hop are the themes of this weekend’s “South By South Bronx” Music Festival.

It was in New York’s Bronx borough in August 1973 where DJ Kool Herc is credited with founding the culture and musical genre known today as Hip-Hop.

To that end, Kool Herc and other legends of rap, such as DJ Grand Wizard Theodore, Grandmaster Caz of the Cold Crush Brothers, and Universal Zulu Nation founder, Afrika Bambaata, will be on-hand to receive kudos for their longtime influences.

The two-day event, scheduled for Friday from 4-6PM and Saturday from 1-5PM at Hostos Community College, borrows part of its name from the annual South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. YC_The_CynicLike its larger, famed namesake festival, organizers promise concert performances from both legends and underground newcomers such as YC the Cynic. There will also be workshops on topics from “Latinos in Hip-Hop” to “Hip-Hop and Activism” for those who want to pay homage beyond the music. Tickets to South By South Bronx are free but must be reserved in advance. Learn more at sxsbx.org. Source: NY Daily News

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Rihanna Poppin’ Off To Chris Brown?

What’s up everybody? Happy Friday! I’m glad we made it!

Anyway, Rihanna and Chris Brown got back together in 2012. Back together or came back to gather more BS for us to talk about? Anyway, I’ve had no doubt that this would eventually turn into one of the biggest fiascos of the upcoming year. And It looks like I was right. Seems like RiRi is sending CB a message.

So, was it her mistake getting back with CB and who is to blame?

Shyne Breaks Down Legal Appeals Process, Pays Respect to Max B

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Shyne spoke with AllHipHop.com recently on a number of topics, including how he has been holding onto and supporting his fallen comrades, Hip-Hop artists who he says kept it real and “never folded under pressure.”

There is a long list of Hip-Hop talent currently tied up in the correctional systems of America, and Shyne said he uses his voice so the people don’t forget about those who are locked up.

About incarcerated rapper Max B’s current legal situation and efforts to be released, Shyne said, “I always have Max B in mind, in my prayers. Whatever I can do to help support him and his organization, to help him stay afloat while he’s fighting for his freedom… We can do a record together, whatever, anything to support, right or wrong.

“He ain’t kill nobody, no innocent civilians. Whatever happened, it didn’t involve innocent people.”

Shyne continued, “Whatever happened, it was in that life. I don’t feel he’s guilty. Somebody told on him. Dudes are about it! Then as soon as they face a year in jail, they turn.

“Most of my partners [are] in the prison ’cause of somebody like that, so that’s a problem I have with these kids. Once you turn, you can’t come back. God bless Max B, and I hope he gets his Habeas Corpus. Even though he was denied his appeal, you can go to Supreme Court and file all types of other motions. There’s a motion called Habeas Corpus that he could stil be victorious, so let’s keep it in our prayers [that] he will touch the streets.”

From behind bars, Max B also weighed in on Shyne’s support for his “Pardon The Wave” cause: “Peace to Shyne. That’s my dude – I always been a fan of his work. “It’s unfortunate what happened to him and his situation, but [he’s] a freedom fighter…he’s reppin’.

“That’s like my guy overseas ; he holding it down, he puttin’ the work in, getting the buzz out. [He’s] just supporting the movement, too, ’cause he know the struggles I been through. I know the struggles he been through, so we are one in the same.

“Shyne good people. Hopefully one day, we can meet up and make something happen…make history.”

Cat Fights and Consequences: The New Cast of “Love & Hip-Hop” Gets Ready to Rumble

Bottles flying, arguments, tears, laughter, and drama are the key ingredients to a hit reality show. Mona Scott Young has that on lock, with the VH1 reality franchise, “Love & Hip-Hop.”

Like clockwork, the show comes on, and social media is on fire with play-by-play commentary. People complain about how awful the show is, but the masses are tuned in. This season will be no different with “Love & Hip-Hop 3”, featuring a slew of new cast members and returning veterans. Will this be the season we find out if there really is any love in Hip-Hop?

Meet the new cast of VH1’s “Love & Hip-Hop 3”:

Joe & KaylinJoe Budden – The Grammy award-winning rapper, who is possibly one of the most unsung lyricists around – and a hopeless romantic – has joined the cast.

Budden is known for playing out his life through social media with very public breakups (think Joey vs. Esther Baxter, and Joey vs. Tahiry, and Joey vs…)

So, this season should be dubbed “Joey’s Angels”. Not only is Budden’s new girlfriend, Kaylin Garcia, on the show, but his old boo, Tahiry, is a new cast member.
Tahiry-175x300Tahiry Jose – The beautiful urban model, known for her super-public breakup with fellow cast member Joe Budden, is sure to bring the fire this season.

Ms. Tahiry’s witty sarcastic humor is sure to p### a few people off.

Raqi Thunda – The radio personality and DJ will be a storyline to watch.

Not only did rumors swirl about her connection to Joe Budden (although the two claim they are just friends), but the rumor mill is buzzing about a feud between her and Tahiry.

Let’s get ready to rumble!
ConsequenceConsequence – New York rapper Consequence and fellow cast member, Jen Bayer, bring a new dynamic to the cast – interracial dating, mixed religion, and child rearing issues all under one roof.

Consequence, a sometimes hothead who infamously wigged out on Sway Calloway’s “RapFix” couch in recent times and is also known for his work with Kanye West and A Tribe Called Quest, brings a new flavor to the show.

Winter Ramos – With tell-all book in the works and all-star roster of ex-boyfriends, the Creative Costume Designer for Flavor Unit Films screams drama. She’s also a former assistant to ex-cast member Emily B’s man, rapper Fabolous. Uh-oh! It’s about to be the coldest winter ever!

Rashidah Ali – Rounding out the new members is shoe stylist to the stars, “Rah,” as her friends call her. No stranger to reality television, Ali has appeared on “Basketball Wives” and “Real Housewives”, and has been known to hang out with the cast of “Mob Wives”.

Ali comes with her own drama; allegedly, she once sliced the face of a New York club bouncer. Let’s wait to see what antics she will bring to the show. For now, look for her new shoe line “Encore”, launching this month.

610x360

We can’t leave out our veteran cast members, with all the twists and turns each has faced since our last encounter. Newcomer Erica Mena, and Olivia’s manager, Rich Dollaz, are now dating. Former manager of Jim Jones, Yandy Smith, has returned a new mom with an accessory line. And then there’s on-again, off-again R&B singer, Olivia, who will be back for another season.

We’re sure the love will show up at some point! In the meantime, set your DVRs for the new Season 3 of VH1’s “Love & Hip-Hop”, which premieres on January 7, 2013.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Was The Gangster Disciples Issues With RoZay A Stunt?

The rumors are going cray cray right now!

They are saying that the NC part of the beef with Rick Ross is just some internet mumbo jumbo that a concert promoter drug up to take the spotlight off poor ticket sales. Here is what is being said on Rhymes With Snitch.

Sources out of North Carolina claim there were only 1200 tickets sold for the Greensboro and Charlotte North Carolina dates combined, so the promoter hyped up that three month old Gangster Disciples video so he could pull the plug on the tour and file an insurance claim!

AHH Stray News: Wale Signs With Skullcandy, Ma$e Finally Out Of Bad Boy Contract, Trinidad James Goes To Def Jam

(AllHipHop News) MMG and Grammy-nominated rapper Wale recently inked a deal with Skullcandy. Skullcandy signed Wale for his blends of Hip-Hop, house, funk and Go-Go, a sound that is popular in Washington D.C. A rep for Skullcandy said they are “excited to welcome such a diverse talent to our crew and to ensure that fans receive the Skullcandy VIP treatment.” Soon, Wale will be release the first track from his mixtape “Folarin,” which will drop in its entirety for download on Skullcandy’s site on the morning of December 24, as part of the “12 Days of Wale.”

In an interview with Ma$e and Sway Calloway from MTV, Ma$e cleared the air discussing the ups and downs of contractual obligations that he was under with Diddy and Bad Boy Records, after 16 years. While the media and fans have speculated about his signing with G-Unit, Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music, YMCMB and even Rick Ross’ MMG imprint, Ma$e explained the hiatus from music. “I really retired once and that was in 1999,” Ma$e explained. “In 2004 I just was held under so much paperwork I just really couldn’t do anything. But I was never the person to talk about other people and I don’t pull other people down or put their business out there. So because I don’t take those low roads, it makes me look confusing. I can say things, but that’s just not who I am.”

After a great deal of speculation, Atlanta rapper Trinidad James has signed with Def Jam Recordings. This according to label president Joie Manda, who told Billboard the news earlier today (December 13th). After Trinidad James has garnered nearly 3 million views on his widely popular “All God Everything,” industry executives were up in arms to sign the fast rising star. “We’re excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family,” Joie Manda said. “Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of Hip-Hop rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists. Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what’s happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz.” Trinidad put things rather simply saying, “Def Jam, thank you for believing.” Several major industry executives were at his New York City show on December 4, as Def Jam’s Joie Manda, Shawn Pecas, Chris Atlas, ” Barry Weiss and Atlantic Records’ Mike Keyser were all seen in attendance.
