Platinum producer Jermaine Dupri will chronicle his journey through the music business in his upcoming book "Young, Rich and Dangerous: My Life in Music."

Dupri, who landed an opening spot as a dancer on the legendary Fresh Fest national Hip-Hop tour when has 12-years-old, chronicles those days, as well as the formation of So So Def Recordings, in the 309-page book.

The mogul experienced his first real chart success with "kiddie" rap group Kris Kross, whom Dupri discovered while the two group members were shopping for sneakers at the Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta.

"What struck me about the Chrises was the way their personality came through," Dupri said of his initial success. "It was like those kids were waiting to be discovered ever since they became friends in the first grade. I saw something in them that I could bring out with some hard work and imagination."

The success of Kris Kross' breakthrough 1992 album Totally Krossed Out led to a deal with EMI as a songwriter, while Columbia gave him $1 million to find new talent and launch So So Def, which he founded at the age of 16.

Dupri, a Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum producer/rapper/mogul, has worked with a who's who of artists, including Mariah Carey, TLC, Bow Wow, Usher, Elton John, Janet Jackson and numerous others.

He is currently president of Island Records Urban Music.

"Young, Rich and Dangerous: My Life in Music" hits stores in October 2007 via Atria Books and will retail for $24.95.

Is this one of those books that will come out and be on sale automatically because I don't see where the interest is. I don't knock his hustle though because they had to pay him to do the book so that is money in the bank.  Janet ain't cheap.

Why not a book on Whodini. More people should know bout their music. I don't think it's time on a book about JD yet. I ain't hatin'. I respect dude, but I don't see no reason to pick a JD book right now. He should beter prepare a book and put it out, when he produces another album for him or maybe somebody else. But as long as it"s fyah, ppl would also be more interested in his biography.

Somehow bad timing.

JD is probably one of the greatest producer's ever.  Wether or not he looks for the spot light, what ever exposure / credit he gets, he gets it from strictly hard work!  Also, he's stuck to Music; just shows he's really in it for the love of music, not just the spotlight.

Obviously you don't know where JD started at..He came up just like Puff did with the break dancing and shit...Name another producer with the exception of Dre and i'm not really to sure on this one that has sold more albums...As a matter of fact they were beefing at one time about that but I don't really think Dre is touching him bc he only producing 4 beats a year..The last album Dre really put some work into was 50's Get Rich or Die Trying...JD resurrected Mariah's career and brought her back from the grave..This ain't a JD against Dre argument but I think he's been overlooked as a producer for too long..Now I don't too much care for him as a person bc he jumped on the South bandwagon after the "A" had already blewn up..He did however influence and mentor the guy that kicked off the movement, which is  Lil John and we saw what he did with all JD taught him..I think the book will be interesting especially if he's real enough to include some information on Ms. Jackson but I doubt it..

I know all that. I'm an 80s kid. I know the history. But still I think it's not the right time. Maybe it would have been better just after he did the excellent lifeguard job on Mariah, but I guess by that time he was the only one to believe he could do it.

I might not care for JD but I know music and I know he's one of the top  producer over the last 15 years...He was the one that really showed people it was money in hip-hop for the youngins...You might be an 80's baby but you are lost when it comes to music homebwoy..How can you compare Whodini to Jd? Whodini kicked it off and ain't did shit since then...As a matter of fact ni99a just read the book and stop with the hating...Would you say the same thing about Dre or Puffy? Hell naw, so shut the fuck up or talk with some sense..

I'm sorry but who gives a flying f**k about JD's life?  Be serious man.  Can't sell a record, so he makes a book.  "I danced with Michael Jackson, I introduced a lot of artists, I got a haircut, I screw Janet Jackson, the end."  Man please, people like Malcolm X are biographies that should be read (which is a great book), Not Jermaine Dupri, Robin Givens, and all these other people who aren't really that important.

GawgaBwoy770, man get off your high horse, at least you admit there's something you actually have a negative opinion, like Dre, that @sshole is battling to release detox, probably taking too long to learn his ghost written verses! Dre's beats have also become too monotonoust and don't stand out on any album, there's no arrangement or nothing, just the same repetitive sh*t, listen to that song with Nas and the Game, a prime example of Dre's monotony!!!! And that "Light speed" song on Chronic 2001!!
The last time Dre did decent music was when he was at Deathrow, since then, all the ghost producers and Eminem/50 cent saved his dignity

I ain't on no high horse man...That man could be giving ni99az the key to success in his book and they so stuck on themselves that they think this man don't have shit important to teach them or say..So, who is it that is actually on a high horse? Not me pimpin...Everytime ni99az come out with a book it's the same old hate..Do you know why white people are able to pass along knowledge? Bc they put shit in books for other whites to read and a lot of them do..Why are we in the position we in? Exactly, ni99az ain't reading and gaining knowledge from our forefathers..I ain't saying JD book is comparable to Malcolm X or anything but damn do you have to say the ni99a don't have anything important to say bc he ain't talking about dumb shit..The same ni99az that's talking reckless would be running to the store for a 50 cent book...Now tell me i'm lying...

GawgaBwoy770, don't get emotional, brother just debate on an intellectual level, you may call me a hypocrite, but you like trying to talk above people man, you kept this so constant I couln't help but get involved, you also deserve your bit of constructive critisism. on the book side of things, JD really isn't making noise at the moment, and this article doesn't suggest he's doing anything like what Master P or Russell did with their books, he seems to be taking Quincy Jone's approach, Quincy is one of the greatest producers/businessmen but his book didn't give much knowledge except that he F8cked white chics and a long list of albums he did, stuff we already know. the truth of the matter is JD aint happening right now, his book may have value but he hasn't timed it properly, the point Asher "Black Bomb" Sommer was trying to put across

I'm not emotional but the shit irks me...If his book is similar to that of Quincy Jones then so be it..It's not something that ni99az should run out and get. But it's not something to put down either bc he don't have a number one hit right now..The man had 4 songs topping the charts off one album at the same time..Ni99az like that are always relevant bc they set the bar..If i'm not mistaken he's the only producer to do that..Old boy contradicted himself anyway saying JD wasn't relevant but Whodini is..That shit is ridiculous to even say..That's like saying Dana Dane is more relevant than T.I. right now..I don't try and talk above people and I do have intelligent conversations with other people on here..I'm not the smartest guy in the world and I don't claim to be..Ni99az be putting me on to books, essays and speeches on AHH...Do you think any other race of people look at a person's relevance bc of a cd? Btw, look at how many producers have came in the game and faded since JD started producing..That's what makes him relevant...His consistency...

@GawgaBwoy:
I'm here in the A too folk and J. was doing it before Lil Jon who was HIS A&R on So So Def!!!! J. is underrated but consistent that in itself is worth learning. Sure he had an advantage from his Pops but you can't last off that alone. Remember Xscape bangin' in the south during their heyday. So So Def AllStars bringing that "Booty Shake" Bass music to the masses. Too much to mention but you won't know it unless you do history or lived in G.A. (maybe the south).

Fa sho..Even though I don't think that highly of him bc I think he got on the South bandwagon after we blew up..I still think he is quite arguably the best producer of our generation..Dre had bangers but JD was way more consistent than Dre and I think he got more # 1 songs and record sales..But i'm going to check his book out to see what he have to say..I think one reason JD is so underrated is bc he didn't have the hometown folks behind him like that bc he wasn't supporting them..I can't really think of one rapper from Atlanta that he's helped blow up..But he still got my respect bc he represents the "A"...

Y'all ni99az kill me with listening to the media choosing who's the best producer...Just kill ya self for saying JD is 100 out of all the producers...He made more black people money than all 5 of the ni99az you have up there..He also got more platinum selling artists and singles than all the ni99az you have before him..Kanye, Just Blaze and Timberland ain't top 5 producers nowhere...I ain't hating bc I like all them dudes but for Timberland first 5 years producing all his artists songs sounded exactly the same..If you don't believe me go back and listen to Ginuwine first cd and you'll see what I mean..Rappers blew Just Blaze up he didn't do that for them..Kanye uses way too many samples even though I like a lot of his beats but he took a formula already in place and added his touch to it..Premier nice as fuck but not consistent and so is Dre but then again a lot of Dre earlier tracks were produced by other people and he took all the credit..Maybe that's why it's taking him 8 years to record a damn album and can't do more than 5 beats a year..JD was the first hip hop producer to do r&B songs and now everybody is doing that and fucking with other genres of music..JD is the only ni99a that consistently produced top r&b songs and rap at the same time so stop with the hating crab and yes I addressed you personally bc you made your list to discredit what I said..
