people keep saying his last album was wack, but i think it depends on who u ask. a lot of young people couldn't relate to a lot of songs on there. they were expecting him to still be rapping about slangin crack and all that. thats where 50 cent messed up at. everyone knows that he is a rich sob and he is not in the hood anymore. therefore, all the crack talk is irrelevant. people need to make songs about what they actually do and jay kind of did that on his last album. songs like 30 somethin did not sit well with a lot of people because they can't relate. a lot of people are broke as fuck and have horrible credit so that song was not cool with them. i know a lot of older cats that were diggin that song fa real, but most people got offended. he is giving the blueprint on how to make it though.

@cOOP1974A - The reason folks was sleepin' on Jay's album vs. Kanye's album is because of WHERE these two cats come from.  Jay comes from the streets, or at least in some form or fashion, he's been "affiliated" with them.  Kanye is the midwest mid-income kid who went to college but dropped out.  His "backing" isn't the same as what Jay has had, so the streets have had an opportunity to embrace him for something he has ALWAYS been...which is non-confrontational, definitely not gangsta, and just plain as every day type swagger/individual.  SEriously, the hustler AND the law school student can feel and relate to "Can't Tell Me Nothin'"...it's universal.

But not Everyone could relate to 30 Something, or even when he was talkin' bout Hollywood (I do hate that song myself though...lol;).  I mean, basically, Jay put out something the "masses" weren't used too...weren't ready for....So, now he has to get back down to the basics.  The beauty of it is Jay sold 1.5 million of what most people call a "wack" album...and that is WITH all the damn leaking that took place:)

Kanye vs. Jay's "vibe" were fairly similar, but Jay is expected to do MORE with his street savvy...

Jay-Z is a combination of various styles of rappers who he managed to surpass with extensive marketing skills and the benefit of untimely deaths. The Hawaii Sophie fame Jay-Z would not sell any records. The whole "nigga what, nigga who" song was wack as hell but the kids liked it. The Jay-Z whom the GZA demolished back in the day in Brooklyn would not sell any records either. Jay-Z is AZ/Nas/Biggie/Jazz-O/Big Daddy Kane marketed in a very convenient package.

What I respect about the man is that he does understand the "nature" of the business better than a lot of people out there. Now Biggie had him beat and minus his early demise Jay-Z would have never been "king of New York" by a long shot. Tupac almost killed his career, because when he dropped the first Life and Times of Sean Carter he was on life support man because Pac had them cats shook. Remember this line, "I'm runnin to Pac asking where we went wrong" from "If I should die don't cry my niggaz" uh huh whatever.

Fortunately for a lot of rappers Pac met an early demise. So I appreciate what Jay brings to the game but for people like me that are old enough to remember how Pac single handedly went at all the major New York rappers in the game and still has out sold every rapper in the game even in death I would think that we can all stand to be stronger and come with more heat in our shit than what is out right now. Biggie Smalls is the only New York rapper that stood toe to toe against Tupac. How is HOV getting more burn in the GOAT category than B.I.G. when half his lines are bitten from B.I.G.?

These bammas also need to stop throwing around this "I am the greatest King whatever" shit too because most of Jay-Z lines and 50's lines, and even T.I.'s lines are far from great.
