Man i never comment on songs that much, but this shit is the best song I've heard in a minute. His album is going to be one of his best. Every since his resurrection from the battle with Jay, it just seems like he knows his future. Like he's not confused on his craft. Because before the battle, Nas was lost. He didn't know his place. The Nastradamus album is proof. But now he's better than ever. Nas needs to write Jay-Z a thank you note asap!!!

I understand what you sayin but I just didnt think Nas was goin give up and lose the fight against the censorship machine. I miss the dayz when niggas wasnt scared to say whatever the fuck they wanted and hip hop wasnt so censored(when was the last time you seen a chick with a shoe string for a bathing suit shake that booty meat in a video getting played on BET and MTV lmao).I mean this is a sign to me that hip hop is just going to get so watered down to the point where all the underground cats is gonna drown and alot of great artist are gonna go all SAIGON and JEAN GRAE on niggaz and quit. But I guess thats what happens when shit gets into them corporate hands.....

Naz is not the same rapper he was back then, not feeling him, too be honest never really liked his songs. The topics were good but never concentrated on his or on that note Jay-Z's music, i know there are die hard fans on here so im not going to comment on this track and compare to his previous because most likely i never probably heard em in detail!!
But i will tell you this, rappers actors, comedians, street gangstas, hoodlums, women, men kids, have glorified the N word, i aint gonna use it because im not black, but id such a mass population use the word then one rapper as much as it is a step in the right direction is not gonna change that, make that 2 rappers because cham is also doing the same.
But i know where yall coming from because i find it cool to be called a Paki by my boyz, but when a non pakistani calls me that i trip. maybe we have glorified both words for our use only, if we feel we can call ourselves by these words then other people will have the ability to do so at will. If such a mass population is using these words then we have no control over this whatsoever, why limit ourselves and glorify words that are originally there to degrade us!!
Just a point.

@v4vendetta
what u just said is why the music game is all messed up since when is expression a business that is why we can't get good music cause artists treat it like a business first art second..
If Nas album sell 2,000 copies does that mean his content was no good and if 50 sell 2million does that mean his content was good no not at all.
I suppport Nas also 100% this is what needs to be talked about we in a recession and whp wants to hear about rides, bling, and hoes thats how the real problems are covered up now by entertaining our blind a**es wake up..

Yo check this out, homeboy. Your artistic expression is limited within a corporate realm driven by profit. I didn't create the rules just spittin the facts!! I mean Nas is 9 albums deep and his money is no where near Jay's or even newcomer 50cent's!! Now you will say it's not about money it's about keeping it real on the mic! But I will say when the electric gets cut off, or that car gets repo'd or that foreclosure goes down, it comes down to money. If you're in it to just "keeping it real" then you are damn fool!! Old white guys are getting billions and you just want to keep HiP Hop real??? You need your heads examined! NEWSFLASH!! This is a commercial matrix my dude and Hip Hop been on that track hoeing for the corporate pimps ever since Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince received that Grammy!!! I love NAS too I just want him and you and me to have a few hundred million too. Why should all the others have all the fun?

i do understand where you are comin from homie I am in the business game and i was working for a company and decided to start my own business because why make them rich..
He is not anywhere near Jay or 50 but all i am saying is that money makes the world go round , but it is also the root of all evil just the same... We need people like Nas and music like this to keep stuff in balance... The music game is a business and the fact that he has enough courage to come out with an album like this and bring this before the whites in suits shows his courage.... At the award show when he was wearing a Nigger shirt people were saying how stupid he was and that was....
All I am saying is he is trying to make a change and bring things to light that need to be brought to light and talked about.... At the end of the day it is all about the dollar but rap music was saying something before money got involved check the history P.E., Slick Rick, X-Clan, Geto Boys, Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, NWA all these groups talked about real stuff it just so happen to be that they got paid for it a little but they would have still made the music anyway...
We need music that uplifts from time to time and like someone else said when we looked back at Marvin Gayes whats going on and NWA albums they are thought of as greatest of there era and Nas will be appreciated more when he is gone and we look back..
I am a business owner and I am paving the way but all I am saying is we needs Nas and Dead Pres and Talib and those artists as much as we need 50& Jay
holla

Everyone has their opinion and with that, discussion is interesting.
I am failing to understand your motivation though, for going on about Nas not having as much as Jay-Z or 50 Cent or the business matrix we are all in.
Nas decided to do something for his own purposes. Of course, part of that is financial reasons, but apparently, money may not be his top priority, as he's decided to couple this message so deeply in this current cd.
That's his personal decision to make. We don't know his financial situation. He may very well be far removed from days scared his bills will be late or his electricity will be cut off.
It reminds me of one of those movie scenes where a disaster happens, in this case, Hip Hop current route and people yell out, "Will no one fight for us"? You sound like that suit that would be in the back talking about, "I wouldn't be a hero, that guy is stupid", lol.
It kills me when I hear folks coming back to money like it's God on this planet. The fact of the matter is, that grown man decided his intent was to put out this type of music at this point in his career, not worry about the next way to financially overtake Jay-Z and 50.
That sounds like a damn little girl plotting in her room.
Also, that commercial matrix you talked about; it's based on the never ending pursuit of the dollar being dangled in front of you to make you keep going. Forgive Nas or moving for his own purpose as opposed to the carrot you treasure so much being dangled.
Last thing; to the crab mentality out there, how many of you are going to buy the cd and how many download?.... Yeah, "WE OUT"

What you know about the south or hiphop, you cats need to kill yourself. What about GoodieMob, OuttKast, Fieldmob, or a lot of southern cats that don't get any respect lyrically. I'm a Nas fan but homeboy did not invent the struggle, and people from up north do not have a monopoly on lyrical ability. Now concerning rims, dude are you buying the rims for them cars, if not kill yourself hater, are you mad because you don't have any, let me guess you gotta a 20 year old benz living with your moms like you a baller, stop hating.

You seem to have missed my point totally.
It's not about money worship. It's about survival. yes it *is* the common denominator in this society. Sad but true. But the fact is some silver haired middle-aged white guy(who doesn't even listen to rap) will make 10 times the money NAS will see off of that cd. That's business my friend. inescapable. So while we are nodding our heads to the "deep" lyrics and funky beat, this man will send his children to college on the strength of this cd. So my point is at what level do we say, "hey, I know somebody's getting rich and eating on my account, now let me get rich by owning my masters, and my label"?? I am for empowerment and making a path to success is not an inherently evil idea. Why must we always forego getting the dough in the name of keeping it real? While others stack and even use their newly acquired wealth to further insulate themselves from your entry. It's an acute sickness we suffer from dating back to slavery. Yes Nas can make whatever song he wants but notive how he had to back-pedal on the title? See, he had to compromise, because it's not his house. Nowadays your rights are connected to how much cake you have. These elitist folk see most of us as "useless eaters" to be depopulated since you do not have share their bloodline.(like your homeboy Barack is related to Cheney and Bush) So it's time to get paid and prepare for what's coming. Knowledge and information are power. Couple those with money and you're unstoppable!!
We out. But not out of our minds like some.

Yall both are on point with your views. Me and my homie use to have that same discussion. We live in a capitalist society, so of course, money is the root of all power and evil. I commend the Jay's, 50's and Russells for taking it to the next business level and illustrating the options for those who don't know or understand. I also commend the Nas's and Dave Chapelle's who put money and fame secondary to doing what they feel is right for our people as a whole. IMO, we should try to mimic the best attributes from both groups and use those to rebuild our communities and educate our people to the American game...cause that's really all it is...real life Monopoly.

Nigs don't understand with the title change the name don't mean shit all he wanted was controversy that means most of his money doesn't have to go advertisement cuz nigs is talking about it. Imagine how much people are dropping out of Koch Records and nobody knows. Nas is goint to pocket that advance money like he did the same thing with Hip Hop is dead he had nigs upset even other rappers etc. If he was to not change the name Walmart, Target, and probably Bestbuy is not having it then nigs would be talking more shit about the album flopped. On the side note I think he need to grab Cormega up.

He still could not have used that title even if he was independent....
I think your are a smart man but the white man in the suit eating off of us is not just music its shoes, cars, clothes, etc and that comes from the fact that we do not support each other to the degree that we can be in that position. What you are talking about is deeper than music and that is a much larger conversations we do not own such things because blacks have just started to aquire wealth in the last 20yrs. I take it you only wear Sean John (not Rockawear Jay-Z sold those rights) and supports all black causes this cd is a black cause and this is about the content not the title which did not change.....
I only hope that you go out and buy the cd not to put dollars in the white mans pocket but to show the artist Nas that you appreciate his black history schooling that he is giving us... This cd says more black names in just the two songs I heard then I ever got in my whole education and I am a college grad...
The choice is yours but we should support each other

Learn from the master P's and Jay Z's of the world. Even PDiddy can teah you something. They did do a vid together.. "Hate me Now".. Name his last chart-topping hit?? OOchie Wally?

Ok, I see what you're saying more clearer. It kills me when cats are worshipping money; yet, live in contradiction of that simple-ass state of motivation.
I mistook you though. I totally agree on the subject of basically assisting others in raping oneself from bearing much of the fruits of labor. Whether it's this cd, a label, television, so on. I totally agree.
Notwithstanding, I believe there are times where one may forgo the immediate, personal, financial return for the long-term investment in ones own people. And that was really the basis of my first argument.
I understand it's a business and all, but have you been listening to this music lately? Looked at the media as a whole lately? I'm asking because for the most part, I've been forced away from it by the offensive shit going on. From the songs on radio being a "Bust It Baby", "Lollipop" (which I like), "Pop Bottles" and so on, constantly rotating... It gets to a point where, when the moons align and there's a song like this from Nas, some songs from the Roots, Joell Ortiz (if ever), the potential money return is an understandable investment in not only having something worth listening to, but putting ones own culture (hip hop, for example) back in a respectable bracket.
Basically, if you were a millionaire already (assuming he is), could you entertain the notion of forgoing yet another commercial hit for the impact of a positive message to your culture and possibly making a difference? Because if not for these instances, we're left with two choices, 1. Little girls listening to shit like, "I juss gave her a nick name, it's wet-wet/
Cause when we finished she mess up all the bedsets" and then we act like we don't know what the hell happened to us or 2. Just abandon the damn genre and go to the catalog from the oldheads where they were actually saying something.
Last thing, I was a little agitated to start the day off, so I apologize for the little Suit comment in the first post.

I see what your saying but it's not just white people who use that term. Also no offense but black people point out there so called "Innate Inferiority" by calling each other the N word.Racism works both ways so lets not try to act like white people are the problem here.

Nas is the man! I like how he puts out what needs to be heard. Although I don't like the 'N' word, I'm cool with the song and the album. I was tempted to join the ranks of the haters that didn't like the fact that he changed the name, but then I realized that he just want the people to have this album. The message won't change, just the name. And right now, we all know the point he's trying to get across with this album, so the name shouldn't make any difference at this point. Definitely coppin' this one when it drops. ONE!

You might as well cut all the business corporation talk. The "business" ain't working no more. Neither is the old formula for putting artist out. That's why the major labels are scared. Because they are sinking ships, and their $5 fast food formula ain't working no more. Everything is digital now. They don't know how the adjust. Radio play? That means absolutely nothing now days. There's plenty of entertainers (because the folks on the radio that I hear are not MCs or even rappers) get spins 20 million times a day. Hit single and all, yet they do not sell 1 album. You got to ask yourself why is that? The answer is because the consumers are tired of that micowave music.
Back to Nas, the song sounds fine to me. I appreciate the substance. For everybody cimplaining about he doesn't sound the same, his voice, blah blah blah. The man is not 18 anymore, he's 35. Stop looking for a re-creation of Illmatic. Just appreciate what he's trying to do now.
