The Game, an avid Lakers fan who predicted
a seven game series, was
forced to watch a definitive thrashing as the Celtics dismantled the Lakers 131-92 to win their 17th NBA title.
“I was just saying that the first two games, the first game Boston
just beat the Lakers, the second game it seemed like the calls was going Boston’s
way and sometimes the calls just go a certain way,” Game explained. “I just
think it’s a big business and a lot more money can be made on seven championship games especially with everyone watching.”
After a hard fought regular and playoff season, Paul Pierce and Kevin
Garnett are celebrating their roles in the Boston Celtic’s first championship since 1986.
Hounded throughout his career by experts questioning his “killer instinct,” Kevin Garnett directed reporters to the trophy when asked if his career was validated.
“We said, ‘This is the reason we came here. This is the reason we got together,” Garnett said after pausing to survey the title again. “This is the reason right here.”
Finals MVP Paul Pierce had 17 points and 10 assists in the deciding game, and was all smiles when thanking the fans at the trophy ceremony.
“We sacrificed so much of what we did throughout our careers to get to this
point because we’ve done everything we’ve been able to do individually, won all types of awards, but never made it to the mountaintop,” an elated Pierce stated. “It’s like a breath of fresh air.”
