Nick Cannon Will Star In "Drumline" TV Movie Sequel On VH1 (VIDEO)

NICK CANNON IS MAKING A STRAIGHT-TO-TV SEQUEL TO “DRUMLINE” ON VH1 (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Nick Cannon may be going back to (fictional) high school again. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Nick Cannon and VH1 will release a sequel to his 2002 Drumline movie on the cable channel, but with a few twists.

The sequel, currently titled Drumline: A New Beat will focus on a female protagonist, Dani Bolton, whom travels from Brooklyn to attend college in Louisiana and attempt to become the school’s first female section leader of the drumline. According to Cannon’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter, this drastic change in the plot was not only conscious but a necessary move in order to update the 12 year old movie:

Even though it was released over a decade ago, I am constantly approached by people on the street who tell me how much of an impact it made on them. As a producer, my thought was, ‘How do we create an updated version that would translate to today’s audience and still feel fresh and original?’ Adding a female lead character really makes sense and VH1 is the perfect network to partner with on this modernized take on what is considered a unique and classic film experience.

Drumline: A New Beat will begin production this Spring and is expected to be released in the Fall.
