If you haven’t heard by now, “Straight Outta Compton” is the best Hip-Hop feature film yet. The saga, about NWA, homes in on the intimacies of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and the late Eazy-E with DJ Yella and MC Ren being seen as peripheral figures in the movie. It isn’t a knock to the latter two. The story is the story. However, those present at that time know that Ren was ill on the mic and could go toe-to-toe with just about anybody in NWA’s hey day.
