Lil Wayne Claims Cash Money Owes Money To Drake, Nicki Minaj & Tyga

(AllHipHop News) The legal saga between Lil Wayne and Birdman’s Cash Money Records takes another turn. Wayne has reportedly filed new legal documents suggesting his longtime label also owes Young Money artists Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga money.

TMZ reports:

Lil Wayne now claims in his bitter lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money, he has letters from Drake and Tyga’s people claiming they got stiffed out of a fortune. And Nicki’s people say in a separate letter her producers also got shortchanged by Young Money, and Wayne says it’s Cash Money’s responsibility to pay producers.

Earlier this year, Wayne sued Cash Money for unpaid royalties and album advances. Wayne’s Young Money imprint was named as a plaintiff in the case as well. YM wants CMR to pay for the cost of legal actions from artists asserting they are owed money by the company.

According to the original documents, a “2009 Drake Letter Amendment” was agreed upon to give YM one-third of the net profits from the sale of Drake’s solo recordings. The suit also revealed Wayne and Cash Money agreed to a 51%-49% split over Wayne’s Young Money imprint.

Wayne has publicly demanded to be let out of his contract with Cash Money. Young Money’s Tyga has also been vocal about not receiving payments from Birdman’s company. In addition, other individuals in the industry such as TurkBangladeshJas Prince, and Wendy Day have filed lawsuits against CMR for unpaid services.

According to TMZ, Cash Money argues Wayne and Young Money are the ones in breach of contract. The label claims YM was supposed to produce 21 albums over 7 years and only 13 projects were released.

If Wayne and Young Money are able to split from CMR, Birdman has made it clear he will not let platinum-selling acts Drake and Nicki Minaj go with Weezy so easily. The two stars reportedly have distribution deals with Cash Money, and in 2013 Birdman told DJ Whoo Kid, “Drake down with the team for life. He made that commitment when we did another situation.”

Seem like now u have to get yourself hot again before a “Major Label” release your music. People in denial that HipHop in a good place.

yeah, i already said, whether wayne is a good rapper or not, his career is on the normal downward side of entertainers who are in the spotlight that long. at this point in his career he is not hot enough to justify his own album advance. so cash money is jerking him. but he is fooling himself….but a contract is a contract

Agree, he has peak, and will never reach that peak again, tho he still can make a living. But Birdman knows once Wayne leave that the end of Cash Money. If Birdman own the rights to all his songs, he’s royally screwed. If not he need to do like Dr.Dre and just leave everything and start fresh.

dre left at prob the upward part if not his peak so he had a lot of good music & business to make. like you said wayne is on the downward end of his career. he’ll stll be able to make a living tho. I guess depending how this goes he might not even be able to drop a greatest hits album.

Yeah, he would lose a lot, he still tours so he might not be super rich, least he’ll be happy, what else could he possibly want to own, besides his music. He should have everything he needs and more, JMO

This will get uglier before it gets better. Being a musical entertainer isn’t a job you leave to others to oversee how you get compensated. It’s almost always ends up with someone saying they were robbed.

uuuh, Its seems that wayne might have pocketed some of the Young Money budget that was supposed to go to Tyga- Nicki and all them. Its going to get real ugly if they find out that Wayne actually was paid what they claim.

Lesson #1…be the pimp(“producer/label owner”), not the hoe(“rapper”)!
Have we not learned anything from Master P, Dr. Dre and Puffy?!? Name one rapper WHO IS STILL ALIVE, that has as much money as those 3 mentioned…go ahead, I’ll wait…
