(AllHipHop Rumors) Kendrick Lamar’s latest album ‘Damn’ has certainly had people talking, especially the album’s final track “Duckworth”.
The song tells a story about TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith’s previous encounters with Lamar’s father, Ducky, years prior to him actually signing his son.
The song’s producer, super-producer, 9th Wonder, tells Complex that the story behind the song is in fact a real life, true story!
Apparently Top Dawg was a big gang member in Watts, L.A., and Lamar’s father worked at a drive-thru at a KFC across from where Top lived. Tiffith was known to rob the KFC before and during the time that Kendrick’s father worked there.
Knowing this, Lamar’s father tried to get on his good side, giving him free chicken and extra biscuits. This may be the reason Ducky’s life was spared during a robbery he eventually experienced by Tiffith.
Kendrick raps,
“Whoever thought the greatest rapper would be from coincidence? Because if Anthony killed Ducky. Top Dawg could be servin’ life. While I grew up without a father and die in a gunfight.”
9th Wonder went on to confirm the story by saying,
“He said yes, it’s a true story. The beauty of that is, he chose to tell that story, and we’re like four albums in. Usually, people will tell that story the first time.”
Wowzers! Crazy how life works. Thank God he didn’t senselessly take this man’s life. What are your thoughts?
