Floyd Mayweather Cuts The Check For George Floyd Funeral

(AllHipHop News) Boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has offered to pay for George Floyd’s funeral services.

The tragic Minnesotan was killed during a police arrest a week ago and now the fighter has pledged to cover the costs of memorial services in Houston, Minneapolis, and Charlotte.

A fourth location is to be named at a later date, according to TMZ Sports.

Mayweather has a link to the deceased – Anzel Jennings, the CEO of his TMT music label, grew up with Floyd.

Police brutality and Black Lives Matter protests hit more than 40 American cities over the weekend in light of Floyd’s death at the hands of four white Minneapolis cops, and some turned violent with mayors of Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, and Miami issuing extensive curfews to keep people off the streets.

Several curfews are still in effect.

Michael Jordan Gets Political After George Floyd’s Death

(AllHipHop News) Michael Jordan has backed the protests that have swept the U.S. following the death of Minnesotan George Floyd at the hands of police.

Floyd passed away last Monday, sparking protests and ongoing civil unrest in Minneapolis and other U.S. cities after the sharing of footage showing an officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on the unarmed Floyd’s neck. Chauvin is now facing a third-degree murder charge.

Jordan, who has been criticized in the past for failing to comment on political matters, released a rare statement condemning police brutality against African-Americans and backing the protesters’ demands for an end to racial injustice and changes to policing methods.

“I am deeply saddened, truly pained and plain angry,” the basketball legend’s statement, posted on Twitter reads. “I see and feel everyone’s pain, outrage and frustration. I stand with those who are calling out the ingrained racism and violence toward people of color in our country. We have had enough.”

The sporting hero explains that he doesn’t, “have the answers,” but adds, “our collective voices show strength and the inability to be divided by others. We must listen to each other, show compassion and empathy and never turn our backs on senseless brutality. We need to continue peaceful expressions about injustice and demand accountability.”

He went on to call for Americans to speak with a “unified voice” to, “put pressure on our leaders to change our laws, or else we need to use our vote to create systemic change,” before adding that his “heart goes out” to Floyd’s family and, “the countless others whose lives have been brutally and senselessly taken through acts of racism and injustice.”

The Chicago Bulls legend, now the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, has often been criticized in the past for his refusal to speak up on political issues and about racial injustice. He famously said, “Republicans buy sneakers, too,” after refusing to endorse an African-American Democrat against an incumbent Republican politician with a reputation for racism in a 1990 Senate race.

Jordan has since insisted the comment was made in jest – including in his Netflix documentary “The Last Dance.”

Bernice A. King Announces Nationwide Online Protest In Response To George Floyd’s Murder

(AllHipHop News) Dr. Bernice A. King, the CEO of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, is launching a nationwide online protest as a response to the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

The daughter of MLK is calling on people of all races to take part in the social media demonstration by using the hashtag #OnlineProtest. The King Center is also presenting a live stream for the next 7 days, starting June 2 at 7 pm Eastern ET at kingcenter.org.

“We wanted to organize the #OnlineProtest to give everybody, everywhere a tangible way to contribute in the fight against systemic racism that plagues this nation and to join in the work for true peace which my father says, ‘is not merely the absence of tension, but the presence of justice,’” says Bernice King.

The #OnlineProtest will feature influential speakers and provide a specific initiative to rally behind. The goal is for that critical work to help ensure that George Floyd’s life does not become just another statistic.

“On the eve of the #OnlineProtest, I think about George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter. I was 5 years old when my father was killed by law enforcement. I know that pain, I know that void, I know the journey of anger, I know what people are feeling. I feel it,” adds King.

She continued, “Fortunately, I grew up in a household of nonviolence, and I subscribe to it as the ultimate solution to the way forward. We can’t do it any other way. With the #OnlineProtest, we will leverage technology to organize in a nonviolent way for a better future.”

Dre Of Cool & Dre Releases “Captured On An iPhone” Song Dedicated To Victims Of Police Violence & Racism

(AllHipHop News) For his first single as a solo artist, Dre of the Cool & Dre production team released “Captured on an iPhone.” The song is dedicated to all the victims of police violence and racism that never had their traumatic experiences captured on cell phone video.

“Captured on an iPhone” was inspired by the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and other people killed by police officers or racist civilians. A portion of proceeds from streams of the song will be donated to criminal justice reform organizations.

“I’m a huge fan of N.W.A, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, and 2Pac to name a few. They spoke truth to power through their music and I felt compelled to do the same. These are just my thoughts and emotions in this song and in no way do I advocate violence against any human being. We’re just sick and tired of being murdered,” says Dre.

Billionaire Or Not: Bob Johnson Wants His 40 Acres And A Mule

(AllHipHop News) Listen closely!

Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television and the man who created that company from his own hard own blood, sweat, and tears, believes that money should be paid to the descendants of slaves — despite having his own level of economic liberty.

He said on CNBC, Squawk Box, a “wealth transfer is what’s needed,” to heal the country’s racial divide that is at the forefront of the plethora of things that has not made this country great.

“Think about this,” Johnson said, “Since 200-plus-years or so of slavery, labor taken with no compensation, is a wealth transfer. Denial of access to education, which is a primary driver of accumulation of income and wealth, is a wealth transfer.”

Johnson said that the $14 trillion of reparations for the enslavement of Africans in America would help reduce racial inequality.

It was less than 20 years ago when Johnson became the first Black billionaire in the nation. After selling BET, the network that he founded in 1980, to Viacom he broke a historical glass ceiling.

And despite getting cut by the shards that come from being the first, he still has empowered other people of color and women and now says that reparations are equivalent to an “affirmative action program” that would pay “damages” that are owed to Black Americans.

He also said he was not trying to see programs, but wants the country to cough up some dough.

“I’m talking about cash,” he said, “We are a society based on wealth. That’s the foundation of capitalism.”

Johnson, 74, is currently the head of The RLJ Companies which is a holding company with a portfolio that includes hotel real estate investment, private equity, asset management, and car dealerships.

Battle Rapper Serius Jones Arrested; Accused Of Human Trafficking And Pimping

(AllHipHop News) At the top of February and the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, battle rapper Serius Jones was arrested on human trafficking and pimping charges.

The Jersey rapper, whose real name is Saleem Bligen, made a name for himself outside of battle rap when he went viral after getting punched in the face by Math Hoffa during a URLtv Summer Madness 3 in 2013.

According to Mercury News, he was charged in January on an eight-count criminal complaint that included in addition to the aforementioned charges, assault, robbery, and several other felonies. He was arrested on February 6th by the Walnut Creek police, currently sitting in the Contra Costa County jail.

It is alleged that between July 31st and October 15th of 2019 he “did willfully and unlawfully deprive and/or violate the personal liberty” of an unnamed woman by forcing her into prostitution.

Things came to a halt last fall when Serius Jones allegedly assaulted the same woman “by means likely to produce great bodily injury,” and stole her 2007 Lexus.

According to the court records, the day he was to be arrested, the battle rapper threatened her and attempted to stop her from working with authorities.

Ironically, the alleged pimping happened around the time when he faced Math Hoffa in a grudge match on Rare Breed Entertainment (Aug. 31st) six years after getting physically attacked by the Brooklyn bully.

ARP, the owner of RBE had been setting Jones up lovely with a few choice plates and tried to get him a legal bag of money, but it did not work out. In 2019, he even was set up to battle Ill Will, one of the top emcees in the game, but the vet did not win that one either.

As he sits in the Cali jail, we hope the charges prove not to be true. He’s still rapping. Check it out below.

Nicki Minaj & The Barbz Take On Cops Who Killed George Floyd

(AllHipHop News) Nicki Minaj finds it ridiculous that the four officers from the Minneapolis Police Department involved in the arrest that lead to the death of an unarmed Black man, George Floyd, are not locked up.

The “Barbie Tingz” emcee took to Instagram to break it down (and she is making a whole lot of sense).

In a caption, she wrote: “When 4 black THUGS commit a crime, if 1 person commits murder, they ALL get charged & CONVICTED. When white THUGS/COPS KILL innocent black people, ALL 4 of them are responsible‼️‼️‼️ They all watched an unarmed man die and did nothing‼️ Why do they have different rules????? Let your voice be heard. Be angry. White people have been using violence against us since the beginning of time. We didn’t invent violence & looting. Will these officers actually get convicted? Probably not. Let your voice be heard. Call & TEXT to be a part of these petitions. May Mr. Floyd Rest In Peace.”

A post shared by Barbie (@nickiminaj)

The caption went along with an image filled with names of people who were victims of police-involved murders and their last words.

It is remarkable how similar their words are:

George Floyd, Freddie Gray, and Eric Garner all said “I Can’t Breathe.”

Some either questioned why the police shot them, confronting them for why they are harassing them by following them or calling them out for betraying their trust

“I wasn’t reaching for it,” “You promised you wouldn’t kill me,” “They are tasing me,” “I didn’t even do nothing,” “I didn’t even do nothing, “ “I don’t have a gun. Stop shooting,” “What are you following me for?” “Why did you shoot me?” Officer, why do you have your guns out?”

But then there were just some that appealed to the basic level of humanity, that law enforcement agents should have. “I don’t wanna die young,” “Please don’t let me die,” “You shot me. You shot me.”

Minaj wants her fans to text “Floyd” to 55156 and Call Freeman at 612-348-5550 to demand all four police are arrested immediately.

Jayy Grams Talks ‘Every Gram Counts’ & Joining The Cinematic Family

Jayy Grams is here to prove you can make it out of Baltimore, no matter your circumstances.

The 20-year-old rapper finds music to be his calling — his ticket out. Growing up on old school Hip-Hop and R&B, Jayy lost his father at the age of 6. At 12-years-old, he began producing his own tracks on the BoothApp, which lead to the formation of his LOWFi collective.

Soon after, he’d catch the attention of Jonny Shipes who signed him to his Cinematic Music Group imprint. With Jayy’s most recent single “Hood Tales,” fans are exposed to a first-person perspective of his upbringing and the trials and tribulations he had to go through coming out the mud. His clever wordplay and storytelling lyrics cannot be overlooked, giving the masses hope that real hip-hop is still thriving.

AllHipHop caught up with the Liberty-Garrison native, who describes himself as a “very introspective person. I’m an average dude who likes to rap about things I go through. I always try to have substance in my music.” Read below as we discuss his upbringing in Baltimore, relationship with Smoke DZA, his new project, his Top 5 artists in rotation, and more!

AllHipHop: Being from Baltimore, how has that influenced your life and career?

Jayy Grams: Baltimore influenced me a lot, it gave me a lot of substance if anything. You always see a lot growing up. I know too many people who have the same stereotypical stories like growing up without a father in the household, same thing with me too. You put s### like that in the music a lot. The sound in general, I never try to stay in one thing. Baltimore has this really hype thing, they love to get turnt. It’s turn up and gangsta, so I try to get creative.

AllHipHop: Bring us back to the days you formed 1/3 of the group LOWFi.

Jayy Grams: LOWFi (Von & Hayelo) was me and my man from Baltimore, and another guy from Florida. We met on the internet, this app called Boothapp. It was basically Twitter for rappers, it doesn’t even exist anymore because it was that bad. You could probably search it on Google, but it’s gone. We were the only young n*ggas on there for real, everyone else were drug addicts. We easily connected, 2 young people who weren’t drug addicts who could rap. My mans from Baltimore wasn’t even rapping at first, he just had written. I’m like “these records are like how my records are, you just don’t know how to rap.” We kept him in the group until he learned how to flow. Eventually, we’re going step by step on Soundcloud, then YouTube. One day, we got in tune with Jonny.

AllHipHop: How’d Jonny Shipes find you?

Jayy Grams: I sent the freestyle, he’s like “yo, you got more music?” At the time, I was still recording in my closet. I sent him this song called “Hypebeast” I had, he said it was dope and put it on Cinematic Radio Volume 7. He said “let’s build. Come out, I’ll take you to New York for the holiday.” It’s one of those irrelevant holidays, like Labor Day. I didn’t even know he meant that. It was 2 days from when I sent him the freestyle. I came up, we connected and started recording. I recorded Grime & Basslinez, it was legendary.

AllHipHop: How does it feel to be a part of the Cinematic family?

Jayy Grams: It’s dope, definitely. It’s so funny too because I’ve been so silent. I haven’t dropped a tape in 3 years. I was still with LOWFi for a bit and my project wasn’t entirely finished how I wanted it to be. We kept going with LOWFi until I finished my s###. We’re still a group, I’m just trying to hone in on my s### right now.

AllHipHop: How’d you get your name Jayy Grams?

Jayy Grams: S##t, selling weed basically..[laughs] To make it short.

AllHipHop: When did you realize you could walk away from hustling and make a living off of music?

Jayy Grams: I was always a fake hustler. I sold weed because I love weed. I always had it, so I’m like wassup? I’m in high school, I might as well. I always liked music, that was my passion.

AllHipHop: You lost your father at age 6, how has that molded you into who you are today?

Jayy Grams: I didn’t even know what was happening. At that age, it never really registered. I knew he was gone, but the element of death didn’t really kick in. I didn’t know death in its entirety, I thought you could somehow come back. I was 8 when it really registered, like “damn I’m following the stereotype.” That s##t’s crazy.

AllHipHop: What would your father think about your raps now?

Jayy Grams: Well he was actually a singer, I can hold a music note because of my dad. He’d definitely f##k with my s##t because he was always a Biggie fan. I definitely remember him bumping to Fat Joe, so I know he’s a fan. “Lean Back” and s##t. [chuckles]

AllHipHop: You released the “Hood Tales” video, what were you going through when you recorded it?

Jayy Grams: It was really: how could I capture the feel of somebody who’s lost it all? In the worst situation ever. Not only were you caught up in some s##t you didn’t mean to be in, you killed somebody. You could go to jail. “Hood Tales” is bits and pieces of things that happened. I’ve definitely gotten in a fight, there’s been shoot outs. It didn’t happen in that order, but definitely a lot of true s### in that in the story.

AllHipHop: How often were you experiencing death and violence growing up?

Jayy Grams: When my father died, that was the domino effect. Also before that in2004, that’s when my grandfather died. My father’s father, it was back to back to back. It started happening more and more. When I got to high school, that’s when people you knew started dying too. Not only is it family, but random people. Your homeboys getting the bulls##t, f##king random accidents. It’s always been around me, but that’s Baltimore general.

AllHipHop: How has music been a coping mechanism for you?

Jayy Grams: It’s definitely an outlet. It’s fun. Music’s really my s##t bro. I love music. Certain people are born for this s###. I’m a writer, music is the outlet I choose to write with.

AllHipHop: Congrats on releasing Every Gram Counts. What’s the significance in the title?

Jayy Grams: Appreciate you. Everything I do counts. Every little move I make counts. Every bit of music I put on that project counted. Everything is a triple entendre for real. Every versatile song, I try to put a bunch of flavors on there. Every Gram Counts.

AllHipHop: What songs mean the most to you and why?

Jayy Grams: “ROSES” explains me as a person more than any other song on there. “Light Yagami” because it’s leaping me into this next project I’m doing right now. It’s the intro to a movie low key. Even though it’s an outro, it’s about to be an intro to a movie. “Keanu” too, I put that on there to show the versatility. I could go either way, it doesn’t matter.

AllHipHop: Do you feel like real Hip-Hop is hard to be seen nowadays?

Jayy Grams: Hell no. It’s ways of looking at it, people don’t want to look at it at this point. Anybody I hear say that, you doen’t want to look. Hip-Hop’s almost mainstream now. Griselda, so many people putting on for rap.

AllHipHop: How was linking with Smoke DZA on “Smok’n Grams”?

Jayy Grams: DZA’s my f##king my mentor right now. DZA’s definitely the OG. He’s passing me the baton, I have to seize the moment. He’s been guiding me. We have the same ear for beats, it’s crazy. Everything’s been real authentic with us. He came into the session, he’s like “yo this beat is hard. Let me hop on this.” He did his verse first, I put mine on second. We kept going on after that.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CAhAoI8HIv4

AllHipHop: What is it about him that you guys vibe so well?

Jayy Grams: We both like weed. If he’s the Kush God, I’m the Kush Demigod. He’s a genuine ass person. You never know when you click with people. When you click with someone, the music’s going to be inevitable.

AllHipHop: Who are your Top 5 artists in rotation?

Jayy Grams: It’s going to be Kendrick, Kendrick’s always finessing his way into my s##t. Rio Da Young OG, he be spazzing but he’s hilarious. My mans Babyface Ray, I f##k with him a lot. Sleepy Hallow from New York, I’ve been bumping his song on a lot. And Lil Baby.

AllHipHop: What are some goals for yourself at this point of your career?

Jayy Grams: I’m trying to drop 3 more projects this year. I want to get a lot more features, I only got a feature with DZA. I need to record with a lot more people in Baltimore.

AllHipHop: Do you freestyle or do you write?

Jayy Grams: I write. I write my ass off. I can freestyle freestyle. I freestyle a good amount of songs, but I’m stuck in my ways.

AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let us know?

Jayy Grams: I got a lot s##t coming. I’m working right now, that’s not the end. I got too much s##t coming. Every Gram Counts is out now! We out here.

Tokyo Jetz Sobs Over Insensitive George Floyd Joke

(AllHipHop News) Tokyo Jetz is getting flamed up on the internet, and she kind of deserves it.

For some odd reason, the rising rapper thought it would be funny to mock the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a Minneapolis police on May 25th.

Floyd’s brutal murder was caught on tape as police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck almost 9 minutes, ultimately killing the man as he begged for his life.

As protests erupted around the country and cities burned, Tokyo Jetz was busy online, cracking jokes, one of which went way too far. A clip has gone viral featuring Tokyo Jetz wrestling with a friend on Instagram Live.

During the fake tussle, she blurts out “I’ma George Floyd your motherf##kin’ ass” as she playfully choked out the guy she was on live with.

The outrage against Tokyo Jetz was fast and swift.

The heat grew so intense, she deleted all of her Instagram posts and then gave a tearful apology to her 1.7 million fans.

“No excuse. It’s not what it is at all. I’m not doing this video to ask for no type of sympathy. Because what I did was wrong as hell,” Tokyo Jetz said crying.

“First and foremost, I want to just apologize to family to people out on the front line. To people actually stand up for us. I don’t want nobody to take nothing that I’m saying as an excuse. Cuz that’s not what this is at all. I don’t want nobody to never think that I don’t understand that I’m black as f##k. Like I’m nothing else, I don’t want people to ever think that I don’t that I don’t understand that my son is black as hell. In any given moment It could be me. It can be him. Could be anybody around me, could have been still can be.”

In her defense, Tokyo jetz seemed legitimately distraught over her irresponsible comments.

“I made a bad decision. I made a joke, of a situation thats serious as f##k. And I promise you anything that you can decide to say to me I’ve told myself 10 times worse.”

Take a look at her entire statement below:

Spike Lee Fears Donald Trump May End Up Killing People

(AllHipHop News) Spike Lee is concerned Americans have died following President Donald Trump unscientific health advice during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The U.S. leader’s response to the health crisis has been heavily criticized, including his claim to be using the non-approved drug hydroxychloroquine, as well as his suggestion it could possibly be cured by injecting disinfectant drawing condemnation from health experts.

Spike, who has nicknamed America’s leader, “Agent Orange” after the weaponized chemical herbicide used in the Vietnam War, believes these unverified claims will have already have killed those who follow them.

“I feel that we have to care about the statements that Agent Orange makes,” he tells British newspaper The Times. “Because those statements send people to the hospital. And, later on, it will come out that people actually died following his non-scientific suggestions for what to ingest.”

After Trump’s disinfectant comments, bleach manufacturers issued warnings not to consume their products, while a man died after ingesting fish tank chloroquine phosphate in March. It was initially hoped hydroxycloroquine could alleviate some Covid-19 symptoms, but trials in the U.S. were ended after it was found to exacerbate heart problems. Despite the evidence, Trump claimed to be taking it earlier this month.

At his own offices in Brooklyn, New York City, Spike is enforcing strict social-distancing and testing on himself others present.

“Everybody’s taken a test here,” the Oscar-winner says. “We all wear masks. It’s three floors, 10,000 square footage, and five people. So, we’re spread out.”

George Floyd’s Died Due To ‘Asphyxiation’

(AllHipHop News) George Floyd’s family and their legal team have released the findings from their independent medical examination to complete an autopsy of their brother’s body.

The city of Minneapolis did their own but that one released days ago suggested that George Floyd’s death was not directly related to former officer Derek Chauvin’s knee smashing down on the former DJ Screw associate’s neck.

The city determined that his death was due to a combination of extenuating health conditions and possibly drugs and alcohol activity.

The Floyd legal team, headed up by civil rights attorney Ben Crump, hired Dr. Michael Baden to conduct the review. Baden is most notable for working on the O J Simpson case.

What did he find? Duh … that the doctor from Minneapolis is full of sh*t.

He concluded that Floyd’s death was indeed a result of “asphyxiation from sustained pressure,” thus supporting the belief that he was killed by Chauvin’s actions.

The autopsy says compression to Floyd’s neck and back led to a lack of blood flow to his brain.

Reports state that Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

Floyd was unresponsive 4 minutes in, yet the cop kept his knee there for nearly 5 minutes longer.

Ben Crump made the profound statement, “The ambulance was his hearse.”

The attorney who is also working on the Ahmaud Arbery case told reporters Monday, “George died because he needed a breath. He needed a breath of air.”

“There is no other health issue that could cause or contribute to the death,” said Dr. Michael Baden, one of the independent medical examiners. “Police have this false impression that if you can talk, you can breathe. That’s not true.”

George Floyd, also known by his rap name Big Floyd, was killed on Memorial Day during an arrest gone wrong.

A video of four MPD officers detaining him, but one pushing his knee into his neck resulting in going unconscious. It is believed that he died in the streets during this excessively violent choke maneuver.

Audio has emerged where an officer said he could not feel a pulse, but the officer still did not loosen up.

There is a dispute as to if the death was intentional or an accident.

EXCLUSIVE: Justice For Mac Miller Will Be Delayed

(AllHipHop News) The guys accused of delivering a fatal dose of fentanyl to rap star Mac Miller won’t be going on trial this year after all.

Stephen Andrew Walter, Ryan Michael Reavis, and Cameron James Pettit are accused of being involved in a conspiracy that ended with Mac Miller’s death from a drug overdose on September 7, 2018.

The trio of suspects was supposed to go to trial on September 29, 2020, but the outbreak of COVID-19 has hindered the defense for Walter, Reavis, and Pettit.

“In light of the foregoing, counsel for defendants represent that they will not have the time they believe is necessary to prepare to try this case on the current trial date,” the trio’s lawyer said in a joint statement. “Additional time is necessary to confer with defendants, conduct and complete an independent investigation of the case, conduct and complete additional legal research including for potential pre-trial motions, review the discovery and potential evidence in the case, and prepare for trial in the event that a pretrial resolution does not occur.”

Walter, Reavis, and Pettit decided to give up their rights under the Speedy Trial Act, to mount their defense.

The three men are being tried together and have been formally charged with Distribution of Fentanyl Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Death and Conspiacy to Distribute Controlled Substances Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Death.

Walter, Reavis, and Pettit have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They are going to need all the time they can get to muster up a defense for their alleged involvement in Mac Miller’s death.

“Watching my people get murdered and lynched day after day pushed me to a heavy place in my heart,” she continued. “To the point of staying away from socials, just to avoid hearing the blood curdling agony in George Floyd’s voice again, begging over and over for his life!!! The look of enticement, the pure joy and climax on the face of this bigot, murderer, thug, pig, bum, Derek Chauvin, haunts me!!”

Rihanna added: “I can’t shake this! I can’t get over an ambulance pulling up to an arrest, a paramedic checking a pulse without removing the very thing that’s hindering it! Is this that f##king normal??? If intentional MURDER is the fit consequence for ‘drugs’ or ‘resisting arrest’….then what’s the fit consequence for MURDER???! #GeorgeFloyd #AhmaudArbery #BreonnaTaylor.”

Cardi B, T.I., Diddy, and Trae tha Truth are among the acts who have also spoken out following Floyd’s tragic death.
