Dash Cam Footage Of Plies’ DUI Arrest Hits The Net (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last month, Algernod “Plies” Washington was arrested in Florida for suspicion of driving under the influence.

TMZ has now released police dash camera footage of Plies being taken into custody.

The “Ran Off on da Plug Twice” rapper, seen wearing a Home Alone t-shirt, cooperated with the authorities during the incident.

One officer can be heard telling Plies he was driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

After the January 17 arrest, Plies was later released on $500 bond.

EXCLUSIVE: Dreamville’s Bas, Cozz & Ron Gilmore On Being Part Of The “Too High To Riot” Tour & Working With J. Cole

(AllHipHop Features) “The real pleasure of having a label is watching somebody start from ground zero and get to level one, two, and three,” expressed J. Cole in a 2014 interview.

Earlier that same year, the native North Carolinian announced a partnership with Interscope to distribute his newfound label’s projects. Dreamville Records would go on to release bodies of work by a talented roster of acts that represent areas from across the map.

New York’s Bas dropped Last Winter and Too High to Riot. California’s Cozz let loose Cozz & Effect and Nothin’ Personal. Chicago’s Omen delivered Elephant Eyes. DC’s Ari Lennox saw the arrival of Pho. In addition, in-house producer Ron Gilmore of Tennessee introduced himself with his self-released The Maturation of Little Ron.

Bas, Cozz, and Gilmore headed out together for the “Too High To Riot Tour” in 2016. Behind-the-scenes experiences from the trek were captured by director Scott Lazer for a Tidal-premiered tour documentary.

The 34-minute doc features those three audio craftsmen offering insight into life on the road and the creation of their music. Atlanta Hip Hop duo EarthGang and English Electronic band The Hics went along for the ride and took part in the film as well.

I spoke to Bas, Cozz, and Ron Gilmore separately, and I asked each artist to respond to the same four Dreamville-related questions. The members of the Cole-led imprint discussed those topics as they continue to strive to elevate to level one, two, three, and beyond.

What’s Your Most Memorable Moment From The “Too High To Riot Tour”?

Bas: New York was pretty memorable, being that it’s a home game. I had my mom in the balcony. She was wildin’ the whole time. It was kind of cool to see. Cole came out that show, and it was a mega-surprise for the fans. Seeing their reaction was kind of priceless in that moment. I think New York just had a lot of moments that piled on top of each other.

Cozz: It was probably the show in Santa Ana. L.A. is my hometown, so it’s always exciting to do a show where I’m from. The Observatory holds like a thousand people, and that sh-t was packed out. I remember at that show my voice was super-super hoarse. But the whole crowd was singing my sh-t word-for-word. It was just dope to see that many people were rocking with me from the city. I think I’ll remember that more than anything.

Gilmore: The most memorable moment is when I think we were in Birmingham over in the U.K. I put out an album, but I didn’t really expect anyone to know anything about it, especially overseas. All these kids know that sh-t. After the show, I was just packing up my sh-t, they came up to me, and we started talking. Then they busted out this “Ron” chant. It was so memorable, not because they were chanting my name, but because it clicked for me: Oh, sh-t. These kids actually know your sh-t. They know who you are. It became a very real thing for me.

What’s One Thing You’ve Learned From Working With J. Cole?

Bas: There are no real formulas to this thing. You can be a little fearless with how creative you want to be, not necessarily worry about making a radio single, and just playing the game your own way. I definitely saw him and all the homies do that. We’re continuing in that.

Cozz: One thing for sure is that he still works like he’s not J. Cole. I learned don’t get comfortable. I just came back from working with him. Or like just going to Carolina, playing him music and going over sh-t. He always reminds me, “Don’t get comfortable. Work like you ain’t got nothing because there’s somebody out there trying to take your spot.” So for me, it’s about keeping that work ethic strong, no matter what place you’re at.

Gilmore: How to make good beats. How to be upstanding, honest, and honorable. And how to be patient. I’ve never met anyone as patient as him. It’s so much, but I think it’s more so on the personal side. Musically, you know, I’m the musician, but I didn’t know how to make beats as well as I do now. That comes from watching Cole.

Honestly, we’ve all gotten to see Cole make a transformation as a man, and we’re all learning from that sh-t. That’s what makes our group so tight. We’re really connected energetically and spiritually. Regardless if it’s Cozz, who’s 23, or me who’s 32, we are all on the same wave, the same energetic connection. It’s really strong between us.

So I learn from Cole how to deal with fans, record labels, and how to deal with people saying your music is boring. We get to see his sh-t like a fishbowl. We all learn everything from Cole, and he learns from us too.

How Does Having A Roster Of Artists From Different Regions Impact Dreamville?

Bas: Musically, it’s dope because everyone has their own lane. We share a lot of inspirations and influences. But then everyone, due to where they’re from and their own upbringing, has their own things that they’re inspired by. That comes out when everyone is creating. So I think that panned out well.

You hear the West Coast in Cozz. You hear the Carolina guy that went to school in New York in Cole. You really see these experiences play out. You hear Chicago in Omen, in the stories he tells. For me, growing up in New York and with an international background, it’s a lot of diversity that I get to source information from.

At the end of the day, one thing we all share is trying to tell relatable, real-life stories. In order to do that effectively, you have to go through them, you have to know people that are going through them, and you have to be able to tell those stories.

Cozz: I feel like it expands your horizons. We’re all from different places, so you learn stuff that they learned from where they’re from and how people rock over there. It’s several different stories that you can get from people close to us. We’re always learning new stuff from each other.

I never left L.A. before I got signed. I never traveled. So for me, that’s a big deal. I have friends now from different parts of the state and the country. It’s dope. You learn a lot. It keeps you working.

Gilmore: The good thing about it is that we can learn from different things. Groups that come along – they’ll all be from the same place. They’ll all have the same attitudes about life. In my opinion, these things are shaped by where you live and how you come up.

The thing about Dreamville is it makes us more relatable and universal as we keep going. The fact that we are so diverse and from different walks of life, we can all come together and share in those experiences. It’s really like the idea of America. A culture that’s made of several different cultures coming together.

Do You Have Any New Projects In The Works?

Bas: I’m working on a few projects. I don’t know how much I can divulge, but I’m for sure back to work. I think, this year, you’re going to get a lot of material from Dreamville as a camp. We’re all busy working on our own stuff and working on music together. We just try to keep progressing and take the Dreamville brand to another level. To do that, you have to put that music out.

Cozz: I’m dropping an album, hopefully by the springtime. I don’t have a date, but I’m working on my album and it’s almost done. That’s like my first official album. I know I dropped Cozz and Effect a couple of years ago, but I didn’t really consider it “the album.” I didn’t go into it thinking I was making an album. I was just making music at that time. So this is like my first official album. I have a title, but I’m not trying to put it out right now.

Gilmore: I actually have two projects. I have one project coming out that I’m singing on. There’s another project that I’m working on. I’m writing that album right now. But my sophomore album is already done. I’m just waiting for the right time to put that out. The next project I’m coming with is real soulful. It’s real reminiscent of D’Angelo. But the new sh-t that I’m working on now is 80’s Pop, but it’s not just “electronic-dance 80’s.” It’s more so the R&B and Funk music of the 80’s era.

EXCLUSIVE: Fighter Roy Jones Jr. Is Back For Boxing, Bars And Brawls!

(AllHipHop Features) Roy Jones Jr. is not the type to pacify his passions for anybody. And, when it comes to boxing and Hip-Hop, he’s still all in. The former champion travels to Wilmington, Delaware for his next fight against bare-knuckle brawler Bobby Gunn on Friday. February 17th in at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. In this exclusive, AllHipHop finds out that RJJ also delves deep into his relationship with Hip-Hop too and why he’ll continue to put out music as well. He’s aging, but the fight remains strong is Roy Jones, even as critics look for the legendary pugilist to retire.  Lastly, remember that tense moment with Fat Joe over “Lean Back” lyrics? If you don’t, RJJ gives up the update on that whole ordeal.

AllHipHop.com: How did this fight come together in Delaware?

Roy Jones Jr:
Its just that, he offered the fight a long time ago and I told him if we ever got the right situation, I wouldn’t mind fighting him. He’s a legend in his own right. A bare knuckle fighter. 72-0 as a bare knuckle fighter. Why would I not take this opportunity, you know? If anybody deserves a chance, its him. Love going places where [boxing] doesn’t normally happen at. I saw Delaware as place that hasn’t gotten a lot of attention as far as boxing goes.

AllHipHop.com: In your prime, you were considered one of the best pound-for-pound. What do you still have to offer the sport of boxing?

Roy Jones Jr: I’m still one of the best ever. Still got the the fastest hands ever. At this age, you never know what day might be your last day. Also, I wanna go out with a bang. So, what I said [on my Facebook page] to keep me motivate and make me work harder, any move that somebody says that they want me to do, I’m going to deliver that move in this fight.

Image result for roy jones jr gif

AllHipHop.com: Who has been your toughest opponent that you have ever faced.

Roy Jones Jr:
The guy that is the toughest of all of them would have to be James Toney. He’s just so savvy, so slick in the ring. At that time, he was pound for pound, one of the best himself. They say, to be the man, you gotta beat the man. It was my time to be the man.

AllHipHop.com: Now, you used to rap a little bit. What are your thoughts on your career as an emcee?

Roy Jones Jr: I enjoyed it. I got that Body Head Bangerz: Volume Two that I’m working on. Should be out around May or June. I love music and I’n always gonna be a music connoisseur and I will have Body Head Bangerz: Volume Two coming out this summer.

AllHipHop.com: Oh wow! Are you going to rapping or will it be other people?

Roy Jones Jr: Its going to be me and other people. You know how we do. We got a whole Body Head stable, as always. We come as a group. We come as a team. We come as a force.

AllHipHop.com: In hindsight, “Ya’ll Musta Forgot.,” is still a phrase that we use – its almost an iconic statement.

Roy Jones Jr: Its a statement that everybody can relate to for the rest of their lives. That’s what I like about it. It something that people can never forget. How many people cannot say “y’all musta forgot?” Everybody knows an a-hole that seems to have forgotten about [something great you did]. Lyrics are a form of expression.

AllHipHop.com: I talked to Floyd Mayweather, Jr a couple weeks ago and he also goes back to music. What is it about music that keeps you going back?

Roy Jones Jr: Again, music is a form of expression. And boxing – the way that we express ourselves – music is the same thing. Music, you gotta think about it like this, especially in the old school days. If you wasn’t what you rapped about, then they didn’t want to hear you. If you ain’t a killer, don’t rap about it. Be who you are. Now, everybody can say everything. Back in the day, you couldn’t just do that. Rap is still a form of expression, still. Now, if you a killer, tell us about that. We’ll listen to that. But, if you not a killer, don’t rap about being a killer. You not.

AllHipHop.com: It has been a bit of time since your last album. What kind of music styles are we gonna hear from you this time?

Roy Jones Jr: My thing is, I try to stay in my lane. And my lane is: upbeat, uptempo, makes you wanna go knock somebody’s head off. That’s my lane. When I rap, that’s what Roy Jones stands for. that’s who Roy Jones is. My goal is stay in my lanes. I’m that guy that’s talking about knocking peoples heads off. That’s what I do for a living. I knock heads off. When I rap, I want you to feel like you gonna go buss somebody’s head.

AllHipHop.com: What gets you hyped up?

Roy Jones Jr: A lot of artists get me hyped up. But, I wanna give a shout out to an old friend of mine, Fat Joe. The song I’m gonna come out to this fight is “My Life,” one of my favorite Fat Joe songs. Because, me and him, we had issues, but we still cool to this day. To show my appreciation to who he is in Hip-Hop, I think that was my favorite Fat Joe song ever so I’m going to come out to it this time.

AllHipHop.com: I heard you stepped to Fat Joe back in the day [because of a line in the hit song “Lean Back”].

Roy Jones Jr: That’s old business. We beyond that. I love Fat Joe. I love the music. So, why not do something that’s like a tribute to him?

AllHipHop.com: We recently saw Bernard Hopkins get knocked out of the ring. We are big fans of him and you as well. Do you have any concerns…?

Roy Jones Jr: No, no…none whatsoever. Bernard got knocked out of the ring. Yes, he did. But guess what? Bernard went out the way Bernard wanted to do it. Now, nobody wants to lose, but Bernard knew that was a possibility when he made that choice. Bernard did what Bernard wanted to do. Not what somebody else wanted to do. I respect that more.

AllHipHop.com: I can respect that. Do you have an aspirations to retire? Or are you going to keep fighting until…

Roy Jones Jr: In this game, you take it day by day. You don’t know what tomorrow gonna hold. At our age, any day can be your last. What you have to do is, make the best of every day you have. You don’t know which one of those days is going to be your last day.

Part two of this interview comes tomorrow.

Roy Jones Jr meets Bobby Gunn in a clash for the WBF World Cruiserweight Championship.

Friday, February 17 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront, Wilmington, Delaware.

AHH Stray News: Queen Latifah’s Bible Series, Raheem the Dream Brain Issues, MGK’s European Tour

Queen Latifah is developing a modern-day Bible-themed TV series. “The Scroll” will feature new versions of stories from the Bible told through the perspective of a group of friends, who are based on historical figures in the religious book. Latifah will serve as an executive producer on the project, which TV bosses are planning to put into production later this year. The new series is Latifah’s latest foray into TV – she also appears on Lee Daniels’ music drama “Star” and she is also planning a reboot of her show “Living Single.

Lawyers for rapper Raheem the Dream claim he waited so long to file a lawsuit against Three 6 Mafia, because he’s suffering from serious medical issues. Raheem the Dream has been recovering, after having two brain aneurysms. Raheem’s medical issues allegedly prevented him from discovering Three 6’s infringement for years, his lawyer Peter Scoolidge told the New York Post. The legendary Atlanta rapper was too busy with his medical issues to pursue the lawsuit until recently, when he filed his legal action against Sony. Raheem is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages.

Rapper Sho Baraka Banned From Christian Store Over The Word “Penis” In One Line

(AllHipHop News) A Christian book store has banned an album created by rapper Sho Baraka, over the word “penis.”

Sho Baraka, who was once signed to Lecrae’s Reach Records, dropped his album The Narrative in 2016.

One of the outlets The Narrative was being sold through was Christian retailer LifeWay, until some angry patrons of the store complained about the lyrics on the song “Piano break, 33 AD.”

On the song, Sho Baraka raps: “But always p##### off, that’s because I thought with my penis”

“Like any retailer, LifeWay has a responsibility not to sell resources with content our customers consider inappropriate,” said LifeWay spokesman Marty King. “After receiving some complaints about language in The Narrative CD, Lifeway no longer decided to carry it.”

Some of his fans are crying racism however, some of his fans are crying racism noting that LifeWay still carries sex manuals for Christian couples, with 45 usages of the word “penis” in it.

Kendrick Is Upset Over Beyonce’s ‘Album Of The Year’ Grammy Snub!

(AllHipHop Rumors) If you are still upset over Beyonce & Rihanna’s Grammy snubs, you aren’t the only one!

The Beyhive and many real music fans, hell even Adele herself believe that Beyonce and her ‘Lemonade’ album should’ve taken home the Grammy Award for Album Of The Year.

Apparently Kendrick Lamar was just as upset about it as Bey’s sister Solange and the rest of us are.

K. Dot is said to be truly upset about Queen Bey not taking home the Grammy for her incredible body of work this year at the Grammy Awards.

The co-president of Top Dawg Entertainment, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, took to Twitter informing fans that K-Dot wasn’t feeling the decision.

“I just spoke to kdot. He’s really up set about the Queen B not getting her album of the year trophy,” Punch tweeted.

Many believe that Kendrick Lamar has been snubbed a time or two in the past for Album Of The Year, as well as in some of the rap categories.

Adele’s win marks the second time Beyonce has been snubbed in the most coveted category as Beck beat out Bey in 2015.

Kendrick has always been very vocal and expressive, so maybe he’ll make a statement between now and April when he and the Queen Bey will headline Coachella.

What other Hip Hop & R&B artists do you feel were snubbed?

Actor Mahershala Ali Is Afraid He Won’t Make It Back Into The U.S. Thanks To President Donald Trump’s “Muslim Ban”

(AllHipHop News) “Moonlight” actor Mahershala Ali decided not to attend the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) 2017 awards ceremony on Sunday night (February 12), because of America’s “Muslim ban.”

Director Barry Jenkins revealed his “Moonlight” cast member opted out of attending the prestigious awards event, because of fears that he might struggle to re-enter the U.S. upon his return.

America’s President Donald Trump signed an executive order last month, which barred citizens from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering America.

On Thursday (February 9) a panel of three federal judges in America’s 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled to uphold the temporary suspension of Trump’s travel order, dubbed the “Muslim-ban” by critics, but as a soon-to-be first-time father, Mahershala, who is married to artist Amatus Sami-Karim, decided not to take any chances.

“Mahershala Shabazz Ali did not come to the BAFTAs because he has a child on the way, his first child,” Jenkins explained at a Q&A at the Ritzy Picturehouse Cinema in Brixton, London, yesterday (February 13).

“And I imagine because his name is Mahershala Shabazz Ali, he’s openly a Muslim, that he decided maybe it’s safer to stay home to make sure he was there to witness the birth of his first child,” Jenkins said.

“So because of what’s going on in the world today, I cannot be passive, that’s just not an option for me,” he added.

Barry made his comments as he spoke about his motivation for making the critically-acclaimed movie, explaining it grew out of a decision he made to be an active ally with his work as a filmmaker.

“Every queer film I’ve seen doesn’t feature any people of color, here is a struggle that exists that no one is making art about, at least art that I had seen in the community but I hadn’t seen it out in the mainstream,” he explained to the audience after the screening. “It was the first time that I got sensitive to the issue and I’m a person that feels that I’m an ally to LBGT causes, yet I’d never had a character in any of my work that identified as LGBTQ.

“I’m glad the movie exists right now in this state where it seems like that all of our movies all of our social, civil and financial liberties are under attack and I hope, what I see is, no matter what the condition is, we gotta keep making the true, authentic work that we’re talking about.”

Mahershala was nominated in the category for Best Supporting Actor, among the four awards “Moonlight” was up for at Sunday’s ceremony, including a Best Director nod for Jenkins – but the movie failed to land any awards.

Next, Mahershala Ali will star in the biopic “Roxanne, Roxanne,” about Queens, New York Hip-Hop legend, Roxanne Shante.

The Internet Believes Tory Lanez Took This Hilarious L!

(AllHipHop Rumors) I swear y’all wan’t let Tory be great!

As you know people have been divided when it comes to Tory Lanez since he hit the scene. He has some nice songs….did good flips on samples, but not all are receptive of him especially for his inflated arrogance, and Drake loud and soft disses.

Tory has also been accused of not having his own sound and of sounding like everyone else. With all of this said, the net seems to believe the singer/rapper has taken another L in a video that has surfaced that shows men in a street fight with people believing the man in the black to be Lanez.

I don’t believe this is Tory, but if it is, he certainly threw a lot of punches, but none of them connected.

In the grainy clip, you can see a man that some say resembles Lanez try to kick a man and fall. He stands back up, and tries to throw some punches while two other men keep fighting.

The alleged Lanez keeps trying to throw punches but they just hit the air.

Even if Lanez doesn’t really have those hands, I would like to believe that his hands are better than this, especially the way he super hero climbs venues when he’s performing. Speaking of that, WTF is his insurance policy like.

Whether this is Tory or not, it sure is pretty hilarious! Check out the clip and you decide.

Young Thug Has A New Bromance!

(AllHipHop Rumors) It always seems like the whole world is patiently waiting for Young Thug & Odell Beckham Jr. to come out the closet.

Both the rapper and athlete have maintained that they are heterosexual men, but they have had some pretty suspect moments over time.

Anyway the eyebrow raising was at an all time high when Thugger brought out Beckham during a stop on Drake’s ‘Boy Meets World’ tour!.

Of course Odell came out with his same choreography that includes him acting out the said lyrics and “hitting dem folks” a million times, but it was Thugger’s caption that started it all lol.

I swear the jokes write themselves. It’s nothing wrong with a little brotherly love and support right? However fans immediately begin to make more out of Thugger’s caption that said,

“@OBJ I love the way u love me….”

Fans even joked about Thugger stealing Odell from Drake since Odell had previously become Drake’s roomie roommate.

These two certainly have to be careful of the way they word and do things if they don’t want people to think anything else. They’ve already given everyone too much other stuff to run with. LOL. Carry on.

Will Kanye Snap? Kim Kardashian Fears He Will!

(AllHipHop Rumors) I’m thoroughly convinced that Ye should not be back on the scene yet.

Kanye West has suffered much stress in the last few months from the cancellation of his tour, hospitalization, his wife being robbed, memory loss, mental health issues and more.

Well as you know New York Fashion Week is currently going on, and you know Yeezy Yeezy is trying to make some racks off of homeless chic looking clothes.

He received much backlash his last go ’round as models were dehydrated and walking in uncomfortable shoes.

Ye swears he’s a fashion icon, so he’s definitely going to try once again to make folks accept his weird taste in fashion through the unveiling of Yeezy Season 5.

The only problem is, his wife, Kim Kardashian, is worrying about the fact that Kanye’s progress post his release from the hospital may regress due to the stress of the show.

According to People,

“They spent the weekend apart so Kanye could focus on the show. There is definitely some concern that the show will be too much stress for him. He gets so involved and it’s hard for him to not get obsessed. Kim keeps checking in to make sure he gets enough sleep,” says an insider.

According to Kris Jenner, the real reason why Ye wasn’t ranting or snatching mics at the Grammys like he’s done elsewhere was because he’s getting ready for his show.

“The truth is he’s got a big fashion show in New York because it’s New York Fashion Week, and my entire family is back there… Some of the kids are on their way tomorrow. He’s got a lot of work to do. We wish he could be here!” said Jenner.

Okay kids, it’s time to tell the truth. Yeezy’s clothing collections are azz! It would be so nice to see him have a formal and casual line for men, and a couture line for women though.

Police Raid The Home Of UK Grime Rapper Stormzy – On Accident

(AllHipHop News) Award-winning rapper Stormzy is lashing out at police in the United Kingdom, after they raided his house in search of a burglar.

The popular grime rapper was sleeping when Metro Police bursted into his West London apartment.

The cops claimed they had received a report that the residence was being burglarized earlier this morning.

They destroyed the rapper’s front door in the process of entering the residence.

Reps for the police claimed they thought the apartment was vacant when they raided the residence.

“Officers attended and forced entry into the property, and found there to be two lawful occupants inside,” a police rep said in a statement.

The news comes as Stormzy prepares to release his debut album Gang Signs & Prayers in addition to his 17-date tour throughout the UK, which sold out and moved over 40,000 tickets, in just four days.

Migos Offer “Rain Drop, Drop Top” Valentine’s Day Cards; Blast Rappers With Ghostwriters (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The Atlanta trio of Offset, Takeoff, and Quavo are offering an assist to lovers looking to show affection to their “bad and boujee” significant other.

The trendy lyrics from Migos’ hit record “Bad and Boujee” have now been incorporated into Valentine’s Day love notes.

Fader reports Spotify partnered with the group to offer downloadable cards.

One version reads, “Rain Drop. Drop Top. I Bought Janelle Roses From The Pawn Shop.”

Meanwhile, Migos sat down with Pitchfork for a game of “Over/Under.”

One of the first questions presented to the Culture album creators was whether “ghostwriters” are overrated or underrated.

“Overrated. Write your own sh-t,” declared Quavo. “I’m afraid of Casper.”

Meet The Cannabis Club ATL!

Meet The Cannabis Club ATL! The group is a collective based in Atlanta that’s an eclectic take on The Black Eyed Peas with a cool Hip Hop compliment.

Cannabis Club ATL is a Hip Hop group out of Decatur, Georgia. Comprised of four members (Fruitman, Trapacana, N.I.L.E, and Manal), each is unique in their own right, and together they bring a distinct sound to the urban airwaves.

The founding member, Fruitman wears many hats and is prominent in Atlanta’s underground artist movement. He is the visionary behind Money Tree Entertainment, a producer, writer and arranger.

Trapacana, born in Frankfurt, Germany, is a skilled performer and lyricist. He has had a love for music since a young age and looks for ways to incorporate new sounds into his work.

N.I.L.E began performing at 9 years old. His sound is highly influenced by real-life experiences and pains. He is a lyricist, producer and arranger.

The group’s only female member, Manal, is Australian-born and describes herself as “a Palestinian by way of Australia.” She is an experienced artist whose talents have taken her all over the world and now Atlanta. She brings an R&B sound to the group that organically balances with the rap sound.
