Slim Thug Off Interscope, Preps New Project

A little over a year after the release of their debut album Serve & Collect, The Boss Hogg Outlawz are set to release their sophomore effort.

Slim Thug will join original Boyz N Blue members PJ Tha Rap Hustla, Sir Daily, Chris Ward, and Killa Kyleon to deliver Back By Blockular Demand (Serve & Collect 2) on September 2.

The new album marks the addition of two new members The Boss Hogg Outlawz collective: J-Dawg and Young Black.

It also marks the inclusion of Slim Thug, who recently left Interscope Records to run his Boss Hogg Outlawz imprint, which is distributed by Koch Records.

“Koch is thrilled to welcome Slim Thug to our roster of artists,” says General Manager Alan Grunblatt. “He is truly one of the greatest rappers in the country. His group, Boss Hogg Outlawz, is set to explode.”

Slim Thug and the Boss Hogg Outlawz have released two new videos in support of the new album.

The first, a street video for the song “Ride Wit’ No Ceilings,” was recently released via the Internet and is available on YouTube.

The Boss Hogg Outlawz also recently shot a new video for “Keep It Playa,” which features Ray J.

Sony, LV Settle Over Rap & R&B Logo Infringement

Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Louis Vuitton Malletier have come to a settlement agreement in an ongoing court battle over the use of the luxury fashion brand’s intellectual property.

In the last five years, Louis Vuitton filed similar lawsuits against Sony BMG and its labels, accusing Sony of trademark counterfeiting and infringement, unfair competition, injury to business reputation and false and deceptive business practices, for using Louis Vuitton’s Toile Monogram – the famous LV logo – and Multicolore trademarks – which includes it’s “Cherry Blossom” design.

The previous cases concerned the sale and offer for sale of DVDs, video clips and CDs by Sony recording artists Da Brat and Ruben Studdard, as well as a video clip on a CD by Britney Spears.

Both artist’s projects included the use of LV intellectual property, which lead the company to seek an injunction and damages.

In settling the case, Sony BMG has agreed to “cease the importation, distribution, offer for sale, shipment and/or manufacture of or otherwise trafficking” the American Idol winner’s album, or any other items using Louis Vuitton’s trademarked and copyrighted property.

Sony also promised to educate its various labels about Louis Vuitton intellectual property, so as to avoid such issues in the future.

SICK SUNDAYS: Clipse Re-Up, Dre Goes Deep Cover, Greta Gains, Meek Millz & More

Back at it again!  This edition of Sick Sundays is packed with the New and the old, and we pay homage to the Dream Team, shout out a couple pending releases.

Lotta stuff to get to, so let’s just get it.  Special shout to the cats at Str8hiphop for the Raekwon and UGK joints.

My Lifes The S### – The Clipse Present Re-Up Gang

Re-Up Gang “My Life’s The S###”-Clipse Presents The Re-Up Gang

Back serving customers with that heat, the Re-up Gang returns with a sizzler. Heavy, Dre-Lite beat goes hard and the gang trades hardore street verses. The strings and the keys push the melancholy mood between verses for the perfect segueway. Rugged.

The DJ – Dj Revolution

DJ Revolution Feat. KRS-1 “The DJ”

This new millennium sequel to classic KRS-1 song, “The MC” comes courtesy of DJ Revolution.  Ad-libs come courtesy of Preemo, and KRS comes with the force that has maintained his legacy throughout the years, chastising the lazy iPod generation of DJ’s who pander and don’t lead the culture He even drops his version of the 10 DJ Commandments.  The beat is fairly similar to the original with a more orchestral update.  This spirit lives on in this boom-bap banger.

Get This Paper – Busta Rhymes Feat. Jadakiss

Busta Rhymes Feat. Jadakiss “Get This Paper”

Man, I don’t know how many bangers Busta Rhymes is going to have to put out to get some buzz and momentum, but he’s been on fire lately.  This latest joint is homage to the slept on OC/Big L tag team joint “Making Money” off OC’s album Jewelz. Both emcees flip the phrases and Busta comes with his ill flows. “Gass guzzler flow, not the hybrid.” Jada is sick, if not limited to the punch line delivery. Short and sweet.

Son 4 A Reason – Lil Dap Feat. Guru

Lil Dap Feat. Guru “Son 4 A Reason”

This joint is a throwback to those early 90s Group Home/Gangstarr joints.  No new ground covered here, but it’s good to hear Guru again after a long hiatus.  Dap is nothing special on the mic, but as fans of Living Proof can attest, that never stopped him from making solid songs. Now if we can only get Guru back with Preemo…

Hard As Hell – Akon & UGK

Akon & UGK “Hard As Hell”

Akon on the hook and a full UGK roster is certified.  Don’t be fooled by the title though.  It’s not about gat blasts, but phat ass.  Not really my speed but it’s good to hear the late great Pimp C.  Bun throws out a few shouts to Nice & Smooth in his rhymes.  I can see cats liking this.  Akon’s hook is a mix between R. Kelly foolishness and that “Too Close” joint from Next a few years ago. Decide for yourselves.

Blood Missles – Raekwon

Raekwon “Blood Missiles”

A tune up for the long awaited part deaux to the Purple Tape, the Chef drops a tender morsel to keep your mouth watered.  The slang doctor keep you guessing with off the wall language you expect from Rae, but with no Ghost or Wu riding shotgun this track is actually more beat than rhyme in terms of length.  Juuust enough to make you want more. Somebody get this album out before it becomes anti-climactic.

What it is – Nas

Nas “What It Is”

Nas is running at such a high level right now that even the throwaways from Untitled are blowing other joints out of the water.  Not really tight enough of a narrative or in form to make the album, but it’s still a solid mixtape anchor.  “The 5th member of the Beatles, 10th member of the Wutang lets his nuts hang” on this banger. Solid beat, not timeless but not a sleeper either. Can’t lose with this

Emotionless – The Clipse Present Re-Up Gang

Re-Up Gang “Emotionless”-Clipse Present The Re-Up Gang

Pusha T waxes poetic on the mishaps from their last critically acclaimed, sales anemic album, proclaiming their real fans in the streets as the real reason why they do this.  Ab Liver goes in hard establishing his status as one of the better lyricists in this game over this organ driven heater. Sandman also shines.  This song is very dark in tone and also similar is spirit musically to those late 90s/Chronic 2001 Dre tracks.  More narrative lyrically. Malice bats cleanup.

Puffin On Blunts And Drankin Tanqueray – Dr Dre ft Lady Of Rage and Dogg Pound

Dogg Pound “Puffin Blunts & Drankin Tanqueray”

This white label was really the Pound at it’s most lethal.  Non formulaic, no aim, just in the studio creating timeless joints.  This one in particular features a tipsy tirade by Dr. Dre shouting all his enemies and a total eruption by both the Lady of Rage, and Kurupt where they both totally spazz out!. Jay-z tried to cover this for his S. Dot mixtape a few years ago and paled in comparison. West Coast.

Alternative break of the week:

Firefly – Greta Gaines

Greta Gaines “Firefly”

A little bit of that feminine angst for that ass.  Soulful without getting all Motown.  I don’t really expect anybody to pump this in their jeeps unless they are headed to the Lilith Fest, or missing their Morisette fix, but if you just broke up with your boyfriend ladies maybe you can cry to this.  Solid for what it is….moving on

In My Bag (remix) – Meek Mill feat. Gillie Da Kid & Cassidy

Meek Millz Feat. Cassidy & Gillie Da Kid “In My Bag (Remix)”

South Jersey, Philly and Delaware stand up.  This banger is what led Grand Hustle to get at the young Meek, and this song is blazing the streets up. Shout to Trip for putting me on to this joint. Southern feel with crazy energy. This is the remix.

Sunday Selection: Pretty Ricky “Knockin’ Boots ’08”

Sunday Selection was on hiatus for a while, but I’m back and this week I’ve got a doozie! Not sure what the fellas of Pretty Ricky were thinking about when they decided to remake H-Town’s classic R&B hit “Knockin’ The Boots” and call it “Knockin’ Boots ’08,”but I am labeling their rendition a true disgrace to R&B. If anybody decides to remake a song – whether it’s an artist, group, or producer – my motto is, “If you can’t make it just as good or better than the original, leave it alone!” At one point in time, despite their obvious immaturity, I liked Pretty Ricky’s sound because they were different. They were a rap group with a lead singer, which is a different concept today. The whole idea reminded me of Jodeci or even New Edition. But it looks like their original lead singer Pleasure left the group, and they have a new lead singer named 4 Play. Not to say 4 Play isn’t talented and can’t sing, but just like the original “Pretty Ricky” and the original “Knockin’ The Boots,” it’s just not bangin’ the second time around. I was completely offended when I heard this song for the first time, and in my opinion it’s shameful and should be ranked as one of the worst remakes of all time! Their version just doesn’t have the same impact and soul that H-Town had 15 years ago. If you’re familiar with H-Town, then you know that member; Kevin “Dino” Conner was killed in a car accident in 2003. While reading a blog regarding this song, one blogger wrote “I hate Pretty Ricky, Dino is rolling in his grave on this one R.I.P.” I couldn’t agree more with that statement. What do you think? These guys have an album coming out in September, and I wonder how their fans will react to the new lead singer. Good or bad, I already know how I feel. Until next week, here’s this week’s Sunday Selection – “Knockin Boots 08.”Here is the real version – H-Town’s “Knockin’ The Boots”

Bishop Brigante: American Dreamin’

The Bishop ain’t just up in church.  A man of status of Scarborough’s saturated Hip-Hop scene, Bishop Brigante has cleared a spot for his name out of the brush—leading him into a pasture laden with opportunity.  You know you’ve heard of him.  If you’re looking for album names to tie him to, don’t hold your breath.  Amazingly, Bishop has acquired more status and success than many Canadian Hip-Hoppers, without even ever releasing a full length album (yet).

You may know Bishop from his many mixtapes or his group projects such as S.L.U.G. (Scarborough Loves Us Gangsters).  You may have seen him on 106 & Park, raising hell as on their Freestyle Fridays segment before being disqualified for using profanity.  If you’re from Canada, you’ve probably also borne witness to  his legendary “beef” with battle rapper Jin, and no matter where you’re from, you’ve been catching his latest single “Hard Times” on heavy rotation everywhere and have definitely caught one of his award-winning singles “It’s Fo’ Twenty” with Nate Dogg.

Bishop Brigante – its Fo Twenty Featuring Nate Dogg (produced by T.Williams) –

With all the needed hype behind him and finally some security behind him on a business front, Bishop is preparing to drop his first solo LP, all the while throwing energy into a million other projects.  AllHipHop.com caught up with the Toronto rapper to find out the real deal on the new album and more.

AllHipHop.com: First off let’s clarify the album situation. You recently completed the recording process of your upcoming release on High Stakes Music/KOCH Entertainment, The Poker Face. Where are you on the release of this project and when can your fans expect to see it?

Bishop Brigante: The Poker Face album is finished in regards to recording the records—it’s all in the mixing and mastering stages as we speak. We are releasing a triple single in the next two months entitled “Money, Money, Money” because there are three songs that are money driven recordings. But each takes a different approach at it. Then we will work the hell out of the promo side and once the time is proper in all aspects we release! I’m hoping for Christmas time at the absolute latest.

AllHipHop.com: So, in terms of the label details– what went down with Bodog Music, what drove you to start your own label, High

Bishop: In short form, Bodog is a great company for a lot of things except music. I think they really wanted to be great at putting out a Hip-Hop record, but they didn’t want to learn the different approach you need to take with Hip-Hop. They were used to making punk rock records before they signed me, and the transition was a bit much for them. But they were completely understanding in my wanting to leave and they gave me no issues. I think they wanted the project to work—it just didn’t. After the freedom came, it was back to the grind. I approached Jay [Devonish of KOCH Entertainment] about doing a distribution deal, so we sat and chopped it up. It made sense to him because I have so much foundation and groundwork that it was a no brainer. We were both on the same page from the gate. Now we raise the stakes.

AllHipHop.com: Saw you and Snoop chilling in the studio so obviously the opportunity ended up trading off for more musical opportunities, for one thing!  Is he appearing on The Poker Face?

Bishop: That video was just us clowning around in the lab after we recorded our joint “All My Homies” which was supposed to be on the Bodog record. Once again a prime example of how big artists get in the room with a talented cat from the Dot and just click. If I could choose a good home for me to record albums, I would love to do that with Snoop. The way his whole team gets down in the studio is exactly how I love to work; the work ethic is crazy! When I’m in the lab I just want to bang out joints all day. Not a lot of people utilize the luxuries of having a studio at their disposal.

AllHipHop.com: Can you give some more tidbits about The Poker Face — i.e. guest artists and producers, vibes, new things you’re trying production-wise or lyrically?

Bishop: With The Poker Face I went a different route. I only took one beat from 13 of the best producers in the country, in my opinion, and put together this record. When you listen to the record, you’ll think that we all sat down and created it together. I have a good ear for picking beats, so I knew how to make it gel.  I have great producers to pick from as well: T Williams, Spinz, Kinsmuv, Rich Kidd, BoI 1Da, Dj Kemo with Hazel and Vangaurds (Kardinal Offishall – Dangerous) Snaz, C4 Ent, OB Productions, Dru N Maine and Stomp from Rezofficial. I hope I didn’t forget anyone!

As far as features, there is only a very select few that made the record. I really want the fans to get a Bishop Brigante record. I will save the feature talks for when we get closer to the release. As far as how I go in on the record? I am surrounded by great artists all the time and some of the younger cats help me stay on my A-game. I went all in, on this album!

AllHipHop.com: Who’s up and coming in Canada that you’re excited about, and are there any other projects that you’re involved with that you’d like to plug?

Bishop: I’m really excited about a couple of projects. For one I’m excited about the Drake project. His lyrics are out of this world and dude can do a 180 and drop and crazy slow jam and have the game weak. So he definitely is one to watch out for. Next I would say is JD Era, another crazy lyricist and talented song writer who is just a sick talent altogether. Also I couldn’t leave out Kinsmuv in my “excited about” mentions! Crazy lyricist, songwriter, producer and all around talent. He is like the backbone of the music behind S.L.U.G. You can Google all of these dudes [laughing]—we gets it in with this music.

AllHipHop.com: You appeared on 106 & Park’s “Freestyle Fridays,” as the very first Canadian to appear on the show. Some might remember you from the controversial call that got you disqualified… be truthful, did you cuss or were the judges flat out wrong?

Bishop: [Laughing] Be truthful huh? Ask Lil Wayne! Nah but for real, 100 % I did not swear on the show. It was edited when it aired so there was no disputing it at all. The funny thing about it was everybody in the audience and the staff were disappointed. Lil Wayne tried to dispute it for me and even told me in front of everyone, during commercial, he thought that I murdered that s**t and got robbed. I mean, it could have opened up a bigger outlet for me, had I continued on.

It was a great experience. Shouts to my man Swave Sevah for riding with me on that one. My 106 and Park appearance got me exposure worldwide and I was only aired for 2 weeks—plus I got disqualified and still came home a hero! People in NY would stop me everywhere: on the train, at the Rucker in Harlem. All kinds of people to this day remember me tearing it up on 106

AllHipHop.com: Speaking of another Freestyle Friday veteran, Jin. You had an ongoing “situation” with him. Can you break that all down?

Bishop: Jin is a great freestyle battle emcee. During his rise on 106, he made a stop in the Dot for a show. Before the show he was on the radio talking about how he was there to take the title of the best in the city. During this time I was still undefeated and everyone just knew that Bishop Brigante was the guy he had to beat. When I went to the club, the promoter was adamant that Jin wasn’t gonna battle me. They wanted it to be a show where he just ripped up a couple of battlers and kept it as simple as possible.

So I was like whatever, I’m a take in this s**t and leave it alone. Funny thing was, the “no names” he was trying to slaughter for the show were giving him a serious run for his money. But Jin came out on top and took them out. Then the crown did it. They started chanting “Bishop, Bishop!” He said “Who the f### is Bishop?” Then it was on. We went at it. The s**t was cool. We both went for each other’s head and at the end of it, it was all cool—or so I thought.

The next time he was in town he was promoting his album with Ruff Ryders. The Dot was in the building; it was packed from top to bottom. So I went to the club to check out his show. Not one intention of battling at all. I walk thru the VIP and I see Jin. I walked over to the homie and said what up. We small talked and everything was cool. Then his people asked to talk to me on the side. So I didn’t expect any nonsense. But because I was alone, these three dudes start screaming on me about how they are Ruff Ryders and how they hear I talk about being better than Jin and all this mess.

I just came to check his show. He then told his people to chill and they proceeded to the stage. I was laughing because I thought it was hella corny what just happened. So the crowd is taking in his show, and he just ain’t getting the usual response from such a diverse crowd. So he stops the music. I’m on a balcony in VIP watching. He then proceeds to tell the crowd that he keeps hearing people ask him about Bishop this and Bishop that. Then he asked the crowd if they wanted to see him body Bishop right now on stage. He points the crowd to look up at me. So there I am, on the spot with a packed crowd waiting for my response. So I jumped on that stage and bodied him at his own show!

.

AllHipHop.com: Is there anything else you want to touch on?  Any other projects, notes, events or causes you want to mention?

Bishop: Just want the world to open up their eyes and take a look at the North, ‘cause we have a lot to contribute to the game and all it takes is the right movement to take the initiative to make the difference. Also to remind people to cop my debut album The Poker Face as soon as it hits the stores and online sites! You can hit us up directly at [email protected] or hit me on the myspace at www.myspace.com/bishopbrigante. Peace!

Young Jeezy Organizes ‘Back 2 School’ Event

Atlanta rap star Young Jeezy is personally taking steps to prepare local youth for life in the classroom, with his Back 2 School giveback and bowling event.

The rapper, along with Corporate Thugz Entertainment (CTE), the Boys and Girls Club and V-103 DJ Greg Street, will host the event, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. today (August 2) at Metro Lanes & Games in Atlanta.

Free backpacks, clothing, sneakers and school supplies donated by 8732 clothing, Brand Jordan, Nike, Akademiks and Pastry will be given away to kids in need.

The Back 2 School give back isn’t the first time Young Jeezy has used his celebrity status to benefit young fans in Atlanta.

Last year, the rapper and CTE presented the first ever Toyz n da Hood, a week-long toy drive and charity event series.

The series, which took place in December, presented 1,000 toys for 1,000 kids at various locations in Macon and Atlanta.

Musically, Young Jeezy is preparing for the release of his third album, The Recession.

The album is slated to hit stores on September 2.

Jim Jones Added To Board of Directors Of E4EA

Rapper Jim Jones now sits on the Board of Directors of the Entertainers 4 Education Alliance, a New York-based non-profit organization which uses entertainment to promote education and positive decision-making.

The Dipset Capo became a board member this week, along with MTV personality Sway Calloway and former New York Knicks shooting guard John Starks, all hoping to become more involved with E4EA’s community initiatives.

Jones, Starks and Sway were all previously involved with the organization’s newly created “I Will Graduate Campaign.”

Launched earlier this year, the Campaign uses public service announcements, workshops, events and activities to raise community awareness about the staggering drop out rates that continue to exist in New York City schools and across the country.

The I Will Graduate Campaign not only calls students to task, but it also calls on the parents and the surrounding community to rally around students who are dedicated to their educational achievement.

“Its only right that I give back to the community and E4EA is the perfect organization,” Jones said of his involvement. “[It] offers such a great service where I can use my celebrity status to let our you know to make smart choices and education is very important. Graduating from high school that’s balling!”

“Entertainers 4 Education Alliance is extremely fortunate to have John, Jim and Sway as our newest Board Members,” added the organization’s co-founder Tonya Lewis. “Each of these individuals brings a unique dynamic and resource that E4EA needs to fully make the impact that is needed to reach our youth.”

As part of its mission, Entertainers 4 Education Alliance depends heavily on the participation of celebrities, using their influence to captivate the youth and create an environment of support through the arts.

Each year, E4EA organizes the Stay In School Concert & Expo, a full day of activities and performances during which entertainers and kids are able to interact directly, mixing entertainment with the message of education, career advancement and social commitment.

This year’s Stay In School Concert & Expo will be held on October 28 at the Manhattan Center in New York city.

Snoop’s Lawyer Says Bus Registration Current; Talks Arrests

A lawyer for Snoop has disputed printed accounts that the rapper’s tour bus was driving with expired tags when police stopped the vehicle last night (July 31) in Dallas, Texas.

A Dallas police spokesman has confirmed that arrests were made on Snoop Dogg’s tour bus, after police officers stopped the vehicle and smelled the odor of marijuana.

The passengers agreed to a voluntary search and police found 2 ounces of marijuana.

Two men, Kevin Barkey, 26 and Ethan Calhoun, 27, confessed the marijuana was theirs.

“Snoop Dogg and the band appreciate the professionalism displayed by the Texas DPS troopers yesterday afternoon,” Snoop Dogg’s lawyer Chris Lewis told AllHipHop.com. “The tour bus was stopped for what was thought to be expired tags. Upon further investigation, it was determined the bus was current on its registration and was eventually allowed to continue to Snoop Dogg’s show in Dallas.”

The admission of guilt by Barkey and Calhoun prevented Snoop from being charged and allowed the veteran West Coast MC to proceed on to Dallas for the scheduled concert.

Barkey and Calhoun were charged with misdemeanor possession and released on $1,500 bond.

“The alleged offense, a Class B misdemeanor, was listed as less than two ounces of marijuana,” Lewis told AllHipHop.com. “The young men arrested don’t appear to have prior criminal records. I expect that once everything has run its course, there will be a favorable resolution to this case.

“The routine stop was otherwise uneventful,” Lewis stated. “Later in the evening, Snoop Dogg and the band entertained a great crowd in Dallas as they performed with 311 as part of the Unity Tour.”

Last year, Snoop was arrested on allegations of transporting marijuana at an airport in Burbank, California.

Out of Bounds: Everybody Gets a “Do-Over”

The 2008 NFL Training Camps and Preseason have begun. Before you know it, the Warriors of the Gridiron will be clashing on the field for real. For now, it’s time to get their bodies and minds right for the upcoming season. Rookies and veterans are reporting to camp with one thing in mind; the championship. For some, this is a new beginning. For

others, it’s just another day at the office before the regular season begins,

and for some, it’s a “do-over”.

Every

year, we see players, who are cut or traded from teams during the off-season, only

to get a “do-over” with another team. They’re given an opportunity to re-invent

themselves. Some guys bounce back from injuries and go on to have a great

regular season. Others may have had a rough year from a statistical standpoint,

only to find a team, with a system that can best fit their abilities. Then

there are those who just fell into bad situations with one franchise, only to

be given a “do-over” with another team.

Look

at Randy Moss. Moss played for the

Minnesota Vikings for 7 years. His troubles with the law and discord with the

team, lead to the Vikings trading Moss to the Oakland Raider in March,

2005. Moss spent two years with the

Raiders and within that time, the Raiders stunk and Moss was still unhappy. That led to Moss being irate and vocal about

the Raiders’ organization and an eventual trade to the New England Patriots

during the 2007 NFL Draft.

Once Moss landed in New England, the “do-over” was in effect. Leading up to 2007-08 NFL season, there was nothing but praise from his teammates in New England during the preseason workouts. Moss became the total opposite of what he once was in Minnesota and Oakland. He was a new man and it showed throughout the season in his play.

So

much so, he and Patriots QB Tom Brady hooked up for 23 TDs last

season. That’s an NFL record. Although the Pats made it to the Super Bowl and lost to the N.Y. Giants, Moss should still hang his head high because now he’s looked at as a team leader. A category many wouldn’t have put him in a few years ago.

Another example is Terrell Owens. Owens was unhappy with

his role with the San Francisco 49ers. He was very vocal about his role and the direction the team was going in 2004. So the 49ers traded Owens to the Philadelphia Eagles. With Owens and QB Donovan McNabb leading the offense, the

Eagles’ found themselves in Jacksonville,

Florida for Super Bowl XXXIX. Although the Eagles didn’t win the Super Bowl, the ground work had been laid out for the Eagles to finally be a major player for Super Bowl contention for the following season.

Displeasure with his contract and his off-field angst with McNabb led the Eagles to release Owens in March 2006. When it looked as though no one wanted to touch Owens with a 100-yard pole, the patron saint of lost football players’ souls, Jerry Jones, signed Owens four days

after his release from the Eagles to the Dallas

Cowboys.

Since Owens has joined the team, the Dallas Cowboys have made the playoffs for the past two years. Despite the fact that both playoff appearances have resulted in second round knockouts, the Seattle Seahawks in 2007 and the N.Y. Giants in 2008, the Cowboys have entered this season as the favorites to win the NFC East again, with a possible trip to the Super Bowl.

Owens, whose nickname is T.O., was labeled as a Team Obliterator by Skip Bayless of ESPN’s First Take. His passion for winning and his willingness to take a bullet for his teammates, from the media, in order to keep media attention from them has proven that he’s able to make the most of his “do-over”.  His nickname should be T.L. for Team Leader.

Now, there’s a new “do-over” in the works in Texas as we speak.  Pacman, excuse me, Adam Jones has been given another chance; a “do-over.” After being traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2008 NFL Draft Week, Jones has already made a positive impression with his Cowboy teammates. He’s also making his presence known by going “toe to toe” with the aforementioned Terrell Owens during practice at the Cowboy’s training camp this week.

He has also been accepted by the Cowboy’s family with Hall of Famer Michael “The Playmaker” Irvin and Deion “Prime Time” Sanders as his

“guidance counselors” of sorts. They’ve been talking with the young CB and guiding him in getting his life straight on and off the field. Both of these men have had issues personally and professionally, and they too, have been able to experience their fair share of “do-over’s.” So like EF Hutton, when they talk, people should listen.

If Jones continues to stay out of trouble during the pre-season, he should be re-instated into the league by September 1, 2008.

So make the most of your “do-over.” We all get “do-over’s” in life, it’s what you make of them that counts. By the way; if Moss, Owens, Irvin, or Sanders doesn’t make you believe in “do-over”, then look up Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers. That’s the best “do-over” story of the

year.

On a side note: This weekend is the Pro-Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. Congratulation to all of this year’s all inductees.

WHAT RAPPER GOT BEAT

UP?

Rappers were once super heroes and now they are just humans…

Case in point, there is a certain rapper that always seems to get beat up.

Well, this East Coast rapper has again gotten beat up. You know I can’t say the

name or affiliation, but this dude apparently has had some serious issues in

the NY/NY area. About two weeks ago, somebody shot at him (I’m not talking

about Max B, I might add) and like yesterday, some gang members felt some kind

of way. He’s alive and is certain to be thugging it in the street again…but add

one more beatdown to the resume.

SLAVERY: APOLOGY NOT

ACCEPTED

I don’t know if you saw, but I got really amped up and wrote

an editorial in response to the recent apology for slavery. I’d like you to

read it. You don’t have to agree, but just read it. The government says its

time for honest discourse about this matter so lets talk about it and lets talk

about what a real, sincere apology consists of.

Apology Not Accepted.

Honestly, I wrote that instead of rumors, because I thought

it was more important to get that off my chest.

SUGE SONNING JAIL

CATS?

This is a rumor from the LATIMES, Suge. I just wanted to get

that out of the way in case Suge is reading. The Times says a state prison

inmate who accused a Los Angeles

police officer in the murder of Biggie Smalls testified Thursday. He says that

he that he “recanted” the claims because he was threatened from notes given to

him from former Times writer Chuck Phillips. Now, we all know the rumored link

between Phillips and Knight. Somebody told me recently that Philips was totally

on the payroll and used Chucky boy to get the word out, countering any notions

that Suge had anything to do with anything violent. Hence, the report that

Biggie had Pac killed. And the more recent one that Diddy knew about the first

Tupac shooting. That whole story turned out to be a fabrication!  Here is the initial report:

Waymond

“Suave” Anderson, a former R&B singer, said reporter Chuck

Philips passed him several written messages wrapped in plastic at Corcoran State

Prison on behalf of rap mogul Marion

“Suge” Knight. He said the threats led him to give false testimony at

a deposition last year in a civil lawsuit brought by the family of the slain

rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace.

Anderson is a convicted murderer whose credibility

has been questioned by prosecutors. The 43-year-old inmate made the claim over

the last two days in a hearing examining evidence that he contends shows he is

innocent of a 1993 murder. He is serving a life sentence without the

possibility of parole.

Philips has totally

denied the allegation.

“That never

happened,” said Philips, who has written several stories about Anderson’s murder conviction suggesting that Anderson may be innocent.

“I’m flabbergasted by this whole thing. This is the ultimate

betrayal.”

That’s not his homey so I don’t see how it is such a

betrayal. It is what it is…

SIGNS THE WORLD IS

COMING TO AN END

A part time evangelist has been charged with murder. He was

denied bond.

Whoopty do, right?

Anyway, what he did is what’s the crazy part. Dude kept his

wife in a freezer for at least three years. This is a mother of eight. Let me

get this right. Arletha Hopkins, a 36 year old, was allegedly killed in 2004,

but didn’t show up for police until this year, where she was frozen. The true

cause of death is under investigation. The cops think she was killed after she

made a startling discovery. Anthony Hopkins, a 37-year-old father of six young

children with Arletha, has been charged with rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and

incest. He reportedly screwed one of his own relatives and knocked her up. She

preggers now.

Arletha allegedly discovered the sexual abuse and was

killed.

Their kids range from 3 to 19.

Infamous ‘Trashman’ Indicted For Threats

A two-count indictment was delivered in New York on Wednesday (July 30) against a Harlem man whose internet video postings aimed to cause panic amongst mothers across the country.

Anton Dunn, who identified himself in his videos as Trashman, is accused of creating a series of videos threatening the lives of millions of infants.

In three videos posted since April 20, 2008, a masked man believed by Food and Drug Administration investigators to be Anton Dunn appears on camera claiming to have ordered the contamination of thousands of bottles of Gerber Baby Food.

Trashman claimed in televised rants that with some help from actual Gerber employees, he would achieve his goal of “getting rid of these Black babies that are gonna be born in 2008 and 2009.”

“We wanna get rid of the future of the Black man,” Trashman said in one video posted on July 24. “We’re trying to get rid of you, destroy you, kill you dead, wipe you out. We’re out to kill your child. We are definitely out to destroy the Black human race of the future. There’s too many n***as and Hispanic babies.”

Trashman, who appears to be African-American, claimed that he had photo proof of his operatives tainting the baby food with cyanide and rat poison.

In other videos, he has claimed to have infected thousands of women with the HIV virus, reportedly threatened executives at AllHipHop.com, and even took credit for the deaths of Jam Master Jay, Stack Bundles and model Ruslana Korshunova, who committed suicide in June.

Law enforcement officials were alerted to Dunn’s videos after his first “warning” was discovered by a Gerber employee, who then contacted the FDA’s Detroit bureau.

In the following months, the FDA was able to track Dunn using the accounts he had created at YouTube.com.

Since the release of his second video on July 24, Gerber has received numerous complaints and questions from consumers concerned about the safety of their children.

The company tells the FDA that it has found no evidence of contamination of tempering with any of it’s products.

And while the accused claimed in one video that at least four children had already died as a result of his actions, the FDA has yet to receive reports of death or injury linked to Gerber products.

Dunn is facing charges of sending threats in interstate commerce and falsely claiming to have tampered with a consumer product.

Gadget Inspector: Pro DJ, Producer and Musician Gems

After three years in other markets, the NAMM show

finally returned to Nashville for its summer session, and as the old saying

goes, there’s no place like home. Popular consensus leans toward the belief

that this trade show and “Music City” belong together, and activity in both the

Nashville Convention Center and the surrounding clubs after hours certainly

supported that theory.

Rather than do the standard “what happened at NAMM”

coverage, we’re going to break this into a couple of key components for you.

First up, we’re looking at hot headphones and music software that were demoed and

displayed at the show.

American Audio has so much cool stuff. Their HP headphone line—consisting of the 900’s, 700’s and 200’s—is well known, with the 700s leading the popularity chain.

For Summer NAMM, American Audio was all about

their new HP 550, which use similar drivers and input through a mini-plug with ¼ inch right angle adapter. They come with an extra set of ear pads, bag, and the flexible design means easy fold-up and the option of double- or single-ear monitoring. The HP 550 is American Audio’s high-quality, lower-priced alternative at $49.

Also from American Audio, check out the EB 700 and new 900 earbuds.

These were created for DJs and Hip-Hop artists, meaning they have good bass

response and noise reduction up to 20 dB. All metal, with carrying case, nine-foot

cord and compact design, they’re perfect for stage use. The 900’s list at $169,

the 700’s at $129.

Seems we always associate the Numark name with controllers, mixers and all things DJ, yet we often forget that they also make headphones.

Their PHX premium headphones, featuring 50 mm magnet drivers, come with two styles of interchangeable cuffs, three cables, are fully adjustable and made for comfort, thanks to a two-part ear cup design that incorporates rubber and silicone casing and fits securely between your ear and shoulder. They also fold and store easily in the accompanying carrying case. Pick them up for $99.95.

Numark’s HF-125 headphones are made for mixing. They feature flexible, seven-position, independently adjustable dual ear cups, large 40mm Mylar speaker drivers, a six-foot tangle-resistant cord with 1/4″ connector and padded headband. They street for an unbelievable $18.

From Future Sonics, makers of the original Ear Monitors® custom earphones, comes the second revision of their acclaimed

Atrio® professional earphones, making them perfect for stage, studio and broadcast, as well as gaming and digital media players. The Atrio offers full bass response accuracy, natural midrange, detailed treble and maximum comfort with multiple fitting options. Unique to these earphones is their single studio-grade dynamic driver, designed and manufactured by Future Sonics.

New features include QuietCables™ II for excellent audio quality, more flexibility, less tangling and more comfortable fit, improved performance

with TrueTimbre™ frequency response of 18Hz – 20,000Hz—meaning less need to

crank up the volume to achieve the wider range of audio quality, and improved

cable slider for more secure positioning and greater comfort when cabling is

worn behind the ear. Invest in the Atrio for $199.

Sony offers a full range of headphones in their MDR line, beginning with the 7502. Designed for basic listening, this is a cost-effective, general-purpose headphone, lightweight with deep bass response and high sensitivity. It lists at $65.

The 7505, with acoustic design, zeroes in on detailed listening and more power. The Auto-Swivel earpiece makes it ideal for DJs and videographers who prefer single-sided monitoring. It stores easily in the included bag and lists at $115.

Sony’s

top seller is the 7506, an industry standard, with larger diaphragm and full ear enclosure for better isolation. The lightweight model, which also folds neatly into its bag, was designed for comfortable extended wear, making it perfect for the studio at $130.

The 7509HD is Sony’s newest model. Larger and more comfortable, it features a bigger pad, handles twice as much power—3000 mW power handling capacity and 80 kHz ultra-high frequency reproduction for 96-bit recording—and was designed for critical listening and studio reference. The driver units were designed to eliminate pressure in accordance with the angle of the ear. It’s Sony’s most expensive model at $265, but if your time is spent in the studio, where every detail counts, this is the way to go.

Yamaha’s new RH10MS professional monitor headphones feature S-Logic three-dimensional Surround Sound, ergonomic design for extended wear, and accurate digital-music reproduction, with frequency response at 18-21 k and sensitivity to 96 dB. S-Logic technology sends sound around the listener’s head and off of multiple surfaces of the ear canal,

eliminating the need for artificial echo or digital processing. By purchasing

earphones with S-Logic, you ensure monitor accuracy and perfect detail. The RH10MS headphones sell for $129.

DJ Flex, Timbaland, Diddy’s band members, Kanye

West, Chris Brown, John Legend, Joss Stone, Shania Twain and Vernon Reid are

among the many artists who swear by Ultrasone headphones. Even a dedicated headphone hater like the Gadget Inspector can attest to the comfort and quality of Ultrasone, having test-driven several sets at the NAMM show. (Granted, the ’phones were plugged into the Cream reunion DVD, which would sound good through tin cans connected with string, but honestly, through the Ultrasones I heard every note, every nuance, with amazing clarity—and no outside noise seeping in. Bliss!)

Paul Taylor, president of Ultrasone Inc., told us

a bit more about S-Logic, noting, “Most headphones pull sound directly down the

ear. We’ve offset the drivers and angled it to push sound from front to back,

not directly into the ear. S-Logic uses the natural reverberation of the outer

ear down into the canal to tell you where sound comes from and to create

natural Surround Sound. We don’t use any digital signal processing or enhancers, just an offset driver.

“What’s also very important is the 40 percent

reduction of decibel levels this provides for the potential of not developing

hearing problems or tinnitus. A lot of DJs, gamers, mixers and producers live

in their headphones and the radiation goes directly into their heads. We use a

metal buffer board to reduce that radiation up to 90 percent.”

Ultrasone employs S-Logic throughout their HFI, DJ

and Pro lines, with prices beginning at $109, increasing incrementally based

upon your choices and needs. All headphones come with a two-year manufacturer’s

warranty.

The HFI

line features six models, beginning with the ultra-lightweight 15G,

Ultrasone’s smallest HFI model that’s perfect for personal listening, and

ending with the HFI-2200, which comes with velvet earpads and detachable cable.

The Pro line, with four models, begins with the 550, professionally designed

and equipped, and maxes with the 2500 open-back. All models include hard case,

detachable cables and spare earpads.

The DJ line features two models: DJ1 and DJ1 Pro. Warning: Unless you plan to purchase on the spot, do not test-drive these headphones, as you will never want to take them off. Parting with them can be heart wrenching! Finally, if “simple and portable” is your thing, you’ll want Ultrasone’s iCans. Also featuring S-Logic technology, sleek, foldable and adjustable, they’re perfect for your iPod or MP3 player.

There were some firsts in software at the Summer

show, with guitar and amp manufacturers debuting amazing new gear.

VOX

Rapper Paul Wall Alive and Well; Acquaintance Murdered

Reports spreading about the death of Houston, Texas rapper Paul Wall have turned out to be false AllHipHop.com has confirmed.

Reports surfaced earlier this morning claiming that Paul Wall was shot and killed by two 18-year-old’s in Houston.

“Swishahouse and Paul Wall want to let everyone know that he is fine and alive,” a representative told AllHipHop.com. “The concerns and questions are overwhelming, we thank you for your concern.”

While Paul Wall is alive and well, a friend of his, Emanuel “Lil E” Hobbs, 23, was slain in a gunfight that left three others injured, according to Houston Police.

Police found Hobbs dead and laying on a driveway around 11:15 am, while three other men showed up at local hospitals to be treated with gunshot wounds.

HPD officers recovered several shell casings at the scene of the murder and witnesses reported hearing several rounds of gunfire.

Relatives said that Hobbs lived on Houston’s Eastside and had no idea why he was on the Southside.

Paris Addresses War, Police Brutality On ‘Acid Reflex’

Black-on-black crime and violence, war, police brutality and politics are among the issues addressed on rapper Paris’ forthcoming album Acid Reflex.

With the nation in the middle of an important presidential election year, the timing of the project couldn’t be better, according to Paris.

“There’s no time like the present to speak out on issues and use the most popular form of musical entertainment to motivate and inform,” Paris told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

On Acid Reflex, the Bay Area rapper/activist speaks out on what he feels is “the need for more of an equal balance between positive and negative influences in entertainment.”

“That’s why I decided to call the album Acid Reflex – it’s an aggressive response to what I see going on,” Paris said. “There are a lot of people out there who feel like mainstream music doesn’t truly reflect their concerns or how they feel. Our art form is being kept artificially young and artificially dumb. Listeners of all ages are noticing that there’s more to what we do than what’s given us on the radio and on TV.”

Fans can get a preview of what to expect from Acid Reflex with the album’s first single “Don’t Stop the Movement.”

The song, which features rapper T. K.A.S.H., will be released in early August.

In addition to T-K.A.S.H., Paris enlists Public Enemy leader Chuck D and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Parliament/Funkadelic frontman George “Dr. Funkenstein” Clinton for Acid Reflex.

The album, which will be released on the rapper’s Guerrilla Funk Recordings and Filmworks, LLC, is among a string of ventures Paris is spearheading to expand the Guerrilla Funk brand.

Paris’ Acid Reflex is slated to hit stores on Sept. 9.
