The Roots Make Concert Date Despite Bus Crash

All members of The Roots appeared on stage in France last night (November 20) for the Glow In The Dark tour, just hours after surviving a terrifying accident.

The group’s double-decker tour bus turned over on a French highway yesterday, as they made their way into Paris to serve as one of several opening acts on the Kanye West-led tour.

The accident left the bus turned on its side, with the front end of the large tour vehicle suspended in the air.

A small European minivan was also pinned between the side of the Roots bus and the asphalt as a result of the crash.

Surprisingly, everyone walked away with minor injuries, if any.

Roots drummer and Grammy Award-winning producer Amir “?uestlove” Thompson, who was one of the last two people to get off the bus, blogged about the experience just minutes after it happened, describing the experience in vivid detail.

“When I got outside and looked at what I crawled out of? Man. I just couldn’t believe it,” he wrote from the hotel room where he and the others were taken for medical examination. “How in the hell did we experience this? How did we manage to…man…We are soooo alive right now. That was divine intervention. We are so grateful for this outcome.”

?uest’s entry left their participation in last night show up in the air, but they did in fact make the show at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, performing after Consequence, Mr. Hudson, and Melanie Fiona.

The concert took place almost one year to the day of Kanye’s emotional performance in Paris last year following his mother’s death.

Danny Boy: Life After Death Row

The flamboyance

and bravado of Suge Knight, the co-founder and former CEO of Death Row Records caused

a great deal of controversy in the early 90’s. Knight and his entourage of

cronies were often spotted in their trademark blood red attire, partying and

living the good life.

After all, the

label’s marquee artists were ruling the airwaves and Billboard charts while taking

“gangsta rap” to all new mainstream heights. Times were

good for the label until the violent inclinations of its

CEO began to make more news headlines than its artist.

Signed to the

label at the age of 15, Danny Boy witnessed first hand the miraculous rise of the

West Coast based label and its ultimate demise. This is the former Death Row

signee’s first exclusive interview since leaving the label. Danny Boy talks

about his admiration for

2Pac, the death of Pac’s in-house producer Johnny J , the legal struggles he’s

endured with Afeni Shakur and also, why he would never record for Suge Knight,

ever again.

AllHipHop.com: Many people do not know

you were signed to Death Row at the age of 15, how did that come about?

Danny Boy: I was with an independent

label out of Chicago that was shopping for a deal.  There were several record companies interested such as

Warner Brothers, Motown and Scotty Bros, which is owned by the Whispers.  Interscope beat us out for a group that

signed over there. Then my boy walked in the room and told Suge about the meeting,

Suge heard me sing and wanted to know if he could sign me.

AllHipHop.com: So, there is no truth to

the rumors you are Suge’s nephew?

Danny Boy: No, Suge

adopted me. In California, you cannot be signed to a record label at my age

without the signature of a guardian. My mother was ill and my father was in his

60’s and did not want to relocate to California, in his words, “for some damn

music.”  Nevertheless, Suge just

made the move and made it possible for me to able to stay in California and

work under their strenuous recording contract laws. Therefore, he adopted me.

AllHipHop.com: There is no denying the

facts; Suge has been instrumental in catapulting the careers of Snoop, Tupac,

Dr.Dre and you, among others. However, you seem to be the only one who has not

come out publically to discredit his business practices or ethics. Why is that?

Danny Boy: In the beginning, we were that label no one could beat.

We had records out that everybody knew; Death Row was a household name in terms

of music. There were artists signed over there such as myself, that never had a

record out, no one knew and I was living just as well as any artist who was out

during that time. I must say at that time he took care of his peoples. He made

sure we were all right as artists; we looked like artists and were treated like

artists. One thing I respect again at that time, Death Row was one of the

biggest record labels around as far as Hip-Hop is concerned. I feel he was

trying to break into the R&B thing, but did not know enough about it. What

I do regret, is trusting Suge too much. I have grown

from the things I learned, from the places I been with him.

AllHipHop.com: So there was no loyalty

to his artists?

Danny Boy: I do not think he ever had

loyalty for any of his artist. I think he was manipulative and he did what he

wanted to do. If he liked you at that time, he treated you as such.

AllHipHop.com: Hip-Hop has been rocked

with another sudden loss with the passing of producer, Johnny J. You personally

recorded with him. How did you hear about his death and what was the brother

like?

Danny Boy: I heard about it on MySpace.

I am always on MySpace checking my messages and someone had hit me with a

message and had a banner saying rest in peace Johnny J so I clicked on it and

his picture came up with the R.I.P. and the next morning my phone was just

ringing off the hook.

Regardless of

what producer was in the studio working on Pac’s album, Johnny J was a producer

2Pac took into his own heart as a friend, so he was always around and was

instrumental in making the All Eyez On Me album.

I’ve had a chance personally to record songs with Johnny J. Just a great

producer, great producer, very energetic, we always had a joke like, “Dude

don’t ever get sleep.” Johnny J was just a great talent man, innocent brother.  You know, another innocent brother just

gone for no reason.

AllHipHop.com: If you had one fond

memory of Johnny J, what would it be?

Danny Boy: In the studio when they were

recording one of those dissing records, I think  Pac was doing one of his Bad

Boy disses… yeah it I think it was “Hit Em Up he was

having his little fun in the studio. He would say “Junior Mafia we gonna get you muthaf**kas” or something like that and it was a real rowdy time

and Death Row was so close.  You

know the artists – well I shouldn’t say the artists but whatever side

they were on, they were real close.

You know, the blue side or the red side… Snoop and Suge’s people you

know they were so close man and you know we always had good times just in the

studio because that was where we lived everyday. You know you couldn’t catch us

in the streets, we didn’t party in the streets, we didn’t party in the clubs,

we partied in the studio, we did things together.

AllHipHop.com: What was the feeling

like when the songs were just coming out and the videos were blowing up…where

were you in life then?

Danny Boy: At that time

I was recording my record from my forthcoming album with Death Row and that was

the A studio in Cam-AM studios in Tarzana, California. I am in the A

studio and Pac was in the B studio and you could just… Pac would just come

running in the room and I would be in the booth recording one of my songs. He

would come in the booth saying, “Come on D lace this part, I got something for

you man.” There were times of us being drunk and tired as I do not know what

and we would go in there and record them records.

One song that

really sticks with me is “I Ain’t Mad

At Cha”. We shot a video to that song

and it was not really coming across the way Pac or the executives from the

labels wanted it to come across. It was going to be slated and was not going to

be a single; I was somewhat upset because this was my opportunity to be in the

video with Pac. I had the chance to see that video after Pac passed away. The

director sent the reel to Suge’s house and I was there. To just sit there and

watch that video, to see us in the heaven scene when Red Foxx tells Pac, “You

got to earn your wings to get in heaven.” It was kind of emotional for me

because I was the only one in that scene who was still living, everyone one

else was legends or either passed away… Pac just passed a couple of days

before.

AllHipHop.com: When was the last time

you spoke to Suge Knight?

Danny Boy: The week after he got

knocked the f**k out, I spoke with him.

AllHipHop.com: What did he say to you?

Danny Boy: He said, “Ooh I’m straight.”  I’ve always told myself…see I was

brought up in church and knowing God, when I care about somebody my Lord, he’s

liable to see that. I was just calling to make sure he was good because the one

thing I don’t take for granted is life regardless of what somebody has done to me or how they make me feel. I just took everything I

learned from Suge as a great learning experience and I’ll always reach out to him

and I’ll always let him know some words that probably nobody else will tell

him.

“You’re straight,

I’m praying for you…” I was thinking that maybe this dude got hit he was that

close to being killed at that moment.

A shot is just as easy as a punch – if a person can get up on you

and hit you they can get up on you and kill you.  I had to reach out to him and make sure that he was cool.  And, we talked for a minute.  He said to keep doing the music and that

I should come out there to California, so we can get some things cracking

– which I wasn’t listening to that but – just to know he was alright was

good enough for me.

AllHipHop.com:

Do you think in your opinion after all you been through and with you being

more mature, that there will ever be a chance of you working with Suge Knight

again?

Danny Boy: Never.  I wouldn’t record a record on his rest

in peace album.  I would be there

to watch him go away but I won’t sing a song for him ever in life again, never,  ever

again.

AllHipHop.com: I heard you had the

chance to be on American Idol?  I

heard you made it all the way to Hollywood?

Danny Boy: Yeah I made it to the top 22.

After I got through doing a part everybody was clapping and I was getting a lot

of love from Paula and Simon. Those guys were really treating me nice and the

lawyer came to me and shoved some papers in my face saying, “What the f**k is

this?”  I looked at it and it was

some papers of me being on Death Row on their website saying, “Danny Boy album

coming out soon.” One of the rules were you could not be involved with a record

label or under any contractual agreement.

I had been off that label; I was signed at 15 and was off the label when

I turned 21 by the courts.

AllHipHop.com:

Did you ever try to take them to court for royalties or anything like that?

Danny Boy: This has been the hardest

trip I’m still on right now…filing some procedures and things like that against

Tupac’s estate.  I can’t really

file against Suge because he filed for bankruptcy for Death Row because they were

put out of business.  I know that

me and Tupac’s mom had signed an agreement for me to be paid when it was all that

time I was waiting around…I waited months, I waited months and I finally got in

touch with her and she told me that my payment had been sent to Suge –

her company told her to send the payment to Suge – Why? I don’t

know.

AllHipHop.com: I’m still going through

it and the thing is when you don’t have money you can’t compete against these

big record companies and these moguls who have a hundred million dollar budgets.

It’s kind of hard to fight against them with a lawyer that, you know my little

five thousand dollars and twenty-five hundred dollars runs out faster than that

of Tupac’s mom with her two million and that’s how it would work out.

AllHipHop.com: You never mentioned that

to them and asked directly “where’s my royalties?”

Danny Boy: To who, Pac’s mom or Suge?

AllHipHop.com: Suge.

Danny Boy: I mentioned it to him and

he’s the one that turned me on to the first lawyers saying that Pac’s mother or

Pac’s estate owed me.  [He said]

the lawyer he used to contact them and what ever we needed to do that, “We’d

make it happen.” The first lawyer I talked to – it gets to a certain

point where he makes me think I’m about to get paid and a couple of months go

by and I’m not hearing from the lawyers or a couple months go by and, “We can’t

do anything.” Then they come with a bunch of false information to make me not

want to go after the money.

AllHipHop.com: What is your

relationship with Pac’s mom now?

Danny Boy: Nothing.  I wouldn’t say s**t to her if I had the

opportunity – she’s a fake, she’s a phony and I hate to say it because

Pac was my friend, Pac is my friend – no disrespect to him.  But I believe if Pac was

living he wouldn’t have treated me like this.  We didn’t have this kind of relationship.  I can walk up to Pac and get a hundred thousand

dollars out of his pocket at that time if he had it on him.  So for me to have to go through so much

over something that it is clear in evidence is ridiculous. Something, I was a

part of, over something that I’ve written. I just think it’s disrespectful to my

mother who’s resting in peace – when Pac wasn’t being paid by Death Row Records,

she was very adamant about going to Death Row Records and Interscope

to make sure he got the right portion that he deserved.

I seen Pac’s

mother at the memorial held at the Tupac Shakur Peace Garden, and when I saw her it was liked a

ghost jumped in her face.  She

hugged me and hugged me and she said, “Oh I’ve missed you and I’ve been worried

about you,” and “We’re finally through this…God has finally released us and

we’ve made it through the storm.”  This

was really my first time being around his mother since Pac had died and I was

with my manager. I’m crying because I’m emotional, I’m standing in the Tupac museum  and I’m feeling like I’m around Pac because I’m

around his mother, and I’m falling into the trap of her.

My manager was

saying that’s some bull because you are still going through the same thing,

you’re still going through the same problems. She’s the one that made it

through the storm. She ended it by saying yeah we need to get together and you

belong here and she called over her people and said give him your numbers and

get his numbers.  And that’s when I

knew – I’ve been in Hollywood a long time so I can’t even mention the artists that

I’ve met, the stars that I’ve met and the legends that I met…  so I can tell you I know how it is when

somebody will tell you get my assistants number and that’s kind of how she

played me.  I haven’t seen her

since.

AllHipHop.com: What kinds of projects do

you have going on now?

Danny Boy: What I’m working on now is

the most famous question. I’m used to being asked, “How was it working with Pac

and what was it like working with Death Row?” I kinda

fell a little behind the eight-ball but I’m back on it.

I’m working on my book to tell the story of my travels through Death Row and my

life, my relationship with Pac and we’re planning on putting ten songs on a CD

that will come inside the book when you purchase it.  I’m working on landing a deal with that.  I can’t even name the record labels that

I’ve been to that turned me away because their being scared of – I think

they call him Mr. Knight.  I’ve

been constantly singing and I believe that when God has something for you, it’s

for you and nobody can turn it down. I’m just constantly singing and recording

until one of those labels is ready to step up and say they’re willing to take a

chance on me.

AllHipHop.com:  What inspired you to get into the

music industry?

Danny Boy: My mother inspired me into

wanting to really take it serious.

She was a singer and before I was born she sang.  And all I can remember is the stories

of people saying how I sang like my mother and how you’re carrying your

mother’s legacy on. During her pregnancy and a little bit after she suffered

about seven strokes and it left her with a speech impediment. I was the only

person that really understood my mother out of all my eight sisters and

brothers and 12 of her sisters and brothers I was the one gifted to understand

every word that she said.  My

mother – through her and church – because I sang in church –

she would sit on the front row and every word I sang she would just cry.  When I went over the first time to

Death Row we were coming out with a Christmas album and my mother was deep into

church.  She didn’t understand but

she walked around with that album every Sunday at church saying, “Danny’s on

this,” not realizing that it wasn’t a Christmas album, it was the Murder Was The Case record that had just came out.  So my mother inspired me to take this thing real serious.

Danny Boy

“Slip N Slide” Video

AllHipHop.com: Is there anything you

remember from your time with Pac that you carry with you?

Danny

Boy: Yes, I shot my second video in Mexico for the song called “Slip N Slide”.

I was with Suge, his lawyer David Kenner, Michele, and my daughter’s mother. On

our way back, we were up about 30,000 feet in the air and our plane caught on

fire, we had to make an emergency landing. Once we hit the ground the fire

department and police was out there. Word got back to the family at Cam-Am

Studio and I remember getting on the phone with Pac and he said, “Man you got

s**t to do, ain’t none of that dying s**t…Danny. I was

crying and he was saying, “You good little homie, you

good, it’s going to be alright.” I remember that he told me you got to live you

got something to do. That stuck with me the most.

Sneak(er) Peak: DJ Clark Kent’s Black Friday Air Force 1s

Black Friday? Never did like that name. But I guess White Friday wouldn’t have the same punch in describing the day after Thanksgiving when people lose their minds while waiting in line to get at some ridonkulous sales. Hmm, kind of like those heads that stay on line waiting for the latest pair of limited edition kicks, but I digress. Nike Sportswear and DJ Clark Kent—a tragically underrated producer, for real—connected to create this Black Friday Nike Air Force 1.Obviously, the shoe drops Nov. 29 in three spots: NYC (21 Mercer ), then Beantown (Concepts) and then MI-Yayo (Shoe Gallery). Somehow the good Clark Kent will be at each of them (that frequent flyer mile account must be serious). Why all the hurrah? The shoe is supposed to have some ill materials. Said Kent in a statement, “I went to the fabric library, picked the prime suspects and went to work on the design. The end result…Something Black, Luxurious & Fly, and FRESH!!!! What better way to start the holiday shopping season?!?!” However, we won’t get all that info until the morning of release, so for now make due with the shadowy image provided. Well, at least there is an excuse to include some Clark Kent produced music. One. Junior Mafia “Player’s Anthem” VideoNotorious B.I.G. “Sky’s The Limit” VideoSauce Money “Middle Finger U” Video

Rapper Remy Ma Appeals Sentence; Claims Judge Made Errors

Attorneys for Remy Ma filed a motion in a Manhattan Court Room this week appealing the verdict handed down against the rapper in March of this year.

In court documents, the lawyers argue that errors committed by the judge presiding over the 15 day trial may have lead to an inaccurate verdict.

At issue specifically, were the judge’s instructions regarding the testimony of Remy’s victim, Makeda Smith-Barnes, who was shot by the rapper outside a New York City nightclub during an argument over $3000.

In closing arguments on March 24, Remy’s attorney Ivan Fisher argued that Smith-Barnes’ testimony actually supported his client’s explanation of the shooting as an accident.

However, the jury was instructed that if they believed the victim to be “truthful and accurate,” under the law, her words were enough to establish reasonable doubt.

Additionally, Fisher was barred by the court from arguing that the shooting in fact occurred during a struggle for the .45 caliber automatic handgun which, allegedly resulted in Smith-Barnes being shot in the abdomen at close range.

These two instructions, the appeal states, amounted to a “directed verdict,” which they say should be examined as more than just accidental error.

In addition, Remy’s lawyers argue that by including a previous unrelated violent incident at the Player’s Club in the indictment of Remy Ma, Assistant District Attorney Michael McIntosh effectively managed to taint the jury, predisposing them to issue a guilty verdict.

Remy, born Remy Smith, is currently serving an eight year prison term at the Bedford Hills Correctional facility, a maximum security prison just north of New York City.

The rapper was convicted of first degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted coercion.

She will be eligible for parole in September 2014.

The Last Word: Mariah Finds Inspiration On Her Toilet, Timberlake, Perry, and Prince Find Lawsuits, and Beyonce Says No to Thanksgiving Cooking

What’s fake, real people? The week is over and I’m set for

another quick two days before the cycle starts again. With the longest serving

Republican in Senate history, Ted Stevens, leaving his colleagues to carry on

without him as he appeals his recent conviction on federal charges for

concealing more than $250,000 in gifts to George Steinbrenner handing ownership

of the NY Yankees to his son. Add on to all that, the stock market going up and

down with the crazy economy. Yep. Just another five days.

Shout out to Charlize Theron, the new United Nations

Messenger of Peace and the sounding boards for reinforcing the law of numbers.

Here it comes…the Last Word for the week ending Nov. 21,

2008.

1.

Mariah Carey Composes Big Hit on the Toilet

It’s amazing how hit songs are made. From real drama with

exes and former friends to being happy with the perks of fame, inspiration for

a radio friendly No. 1 track can come from a variety of sources.

So why not have it come from doing your business in the

bathroom? It worked for Mariah Carey, who admitted to getting the idea to write

her hit tune “Hero” while using the toilet during a break from recording.

If it doesn’t come to her in the bathroom, Mariah gets her

song ideas from her dreams while she sleeps.

“Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and have an

idea and have to get up and record it straight away before I forget it,” Carey

shared with the TV show This Morning.

“Or with ‘Hero’ I was in the studio and someone was telling me about this film Hero with Dustin Hoffman in it. I took a walk to the loo

and when I came back I had this idea for a song, and that was what then became

‘Hero.’”

I thought it was common knowledge that many artists receive

their inspiration from sitting on the toilet. With all the good and bad sh*t

that’s played 40 million times a day on the radio, are you surprised?

2.  Justin

Timberlake Gets Sued By Ex-Busboys

Justin Timberlake may have found time to be one of Beyoncé’s

dancers in a Saturday Night Live spoof

of the diva’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” video, but he’s catching flack

for not taking care of a busboy that used to work at his restaurant Southern

Hospitality BBQ & Bar.

E! Online reports that Felipe Ramales has filed a new

federal lawsuit that alleges that he and some fellow employees were not given

their rightful share of automatic gratuity charges that were applied to tables

of six or more.

The 26-year-old employee, who worked at the eatery for a

year, also claims that he didn’t receive any overtime pay for regularly working

more than 40 hours a week.

As expected, a Southern Hospitality rep disputed Ramales’

allegations by labeling the claims as being “baseless.” as well. The restaurant

manager, Chris Russell, also spoke on the case as he told E! that the workers’

salaries were well over minimum wage and that they took home every bit of their

tips.

No word from Justin or his partners in response to the suit.

3.  Tyler

Perry’s Diary Up For Court Exposure

Looks like Madea, or rather Tyler Perry, is headed to court.

The Marshall News Messenger reports the actor/mogul is being sued by a woman named Donna West.

According to the suit, West claims Perry’s#### film adaptation of his stage

play Diary of a Mad

Black Woman was “copied largely from

plaintiff’s copyrighted script.”

The “original script,” created by West in November 1990 and

performed in a play in Dallas in July 1991, is called Fantasy of a Black

Woman.

Perry’s attorneys dispute the copyright infringement

allegations, saying “the materials claimed to have been copied from the

Plaintiff’s work are not protected by copyright law because they are ideas,

facts, conventions or clichés of story-telling, script-writing or

movie-making.”

“Defendants were not aware and had no reason to believe that

their acts constituted an infringement of copyright,” stated the attorney.

West is suing Perry individually and as a businessman

working with Tyler Perry Company, Tyler Perry Company Inc. and Lions Gate

Entertainment Inc. She is seeking a judgment for “actual damages, plus the

amount of defendants’ profits attributable to the infringement.”

In addition, West wants court costs and reasonable attorney

fees paid as well as a an order preventing Perry from “publishing, selling,

marketing, or otherwise disposing of any copies of the infringing material” in

addition to making the entertainer destroy “all infringing copies and all

plates, molds, electronic files and other matter for making infringing copies.”

The recently selected jury for the case is scheduled to hear

evidence before U.S. District Judge Leonard Davis on Dec. 2.

4.  The

Wayans Gear Up for Munsters Close-Up

As if we need another TV show to come to the big screen. It

seems that the Wayans’ Brothers are close to bringing a remake of the old hit

series The Munsters to a movie theater

near you. According to MTV News, the third draft of a script for the feature is

being finalized.

Originally airing from 1964 to 1966 on CBS, The Munsters centered on the odd but friendly Munster family with

the head of the house, Herman, being Frankenstein. Part of the sitcom’s humor

involved Herman who could never understand why people reacted to them

strangely.

“We were big fans of The Munsters. We grew up watching them. We loved the characters,”

said Shawn Wayans. “We thought that they would be a very, very funny movie. You

know, they did ‘The Addams Family,’ which I thought wasn’t that funny or

well-thought out of a show, but they did it ‘cuz they had a catchy theme song

and turned it into a movie. I thought The Munsters had the real meat and potatoes rich characters.”

The near completion of the script is the newest development

surrounding the remake since the Wayans first announced their involvement with

the film in the summer of 2004. And if you’re wondering if the Wayans will have

a dominant presence in the film, think again.

“If we do anything, maybe we’ll do a cameo, but we’re not

gonna make The Munsters Black all of a

sudden,” Shawn said. “They’re gonna be green, white people just like they were

in the TV show. Their characters are still who they were in the ‘50s. It’s just

in modern day.”

No word yet on who would be cast for the film. Maybe they

should talk to the Jacksons. With all their issues, they could stand to show

some family unity for a few dollars.

5.  Prince

Reeks Under Perfume Company Lawsuit; Coughs Up Dough for Video Editor

Other entertainers may be having a good week, but Prince is

starting to collect cases like R. Kelly.

Billboard reports a

perfume company called Revelations over a deal that went sour is taking the

Purple One to task. The fragrance maker is suing Prince for not making good on

his promise to help promote a 3121 fragrance.

The lawsuit, which was filed in New York State Supreme

Court, states that Prince and music publisher Universal Music Publishing Group

reached a licensing agreement with Revelations in December 2006 to use the

crooner’s name and likeness and the name “3121” to market two fragrances.

“Since July 2007, despite repeated attempts by Revelations

there have been virtually no communications from anyone who could commit to or

coordinate any promotional efforts by Prince,” according to the breach of

contract lawsuit, which also noted that the first fragrance was released in

2007 while the second is slated to come out in 2009

The new case comes on the heels of a recent court order for

Prince to shell out $58,000 to a video editor named Ian C. Lewis. The Grammy

winner was recently ordered to pay Lewis after a short trial last month. Lewis

claims Prince failed to pay him for editing work and unreturned equipment. In

addition, the video editor claimed the vocalist and his company, Paisley Park

Enterprises, broke a $25,000 computer because no receipts were provided.

So much for him being a Sexy MF. I guess in the eyes of

certain folks, Prince is just a regular MF. Fame. Gotta love it.

6.  Beyoncé

and Pink Think About Thanksgiving Ups and Downs

With Thanksgiving coming next week, it’s time to make room

for more than enough turkey, cranberry sauce, veggies and dessert to make you

roll away from the table or catch an early nap from being full.

But if you plan to spend the holiday with Beyoncé and Jay-Z,

don’t expect to be stuffed off anything prepared by the artist also known as

Sasha Fierce. Although she feels like she should try her luck in the kitchen,

Bey may end up eating out for turkey day because she’ll readily tell you that

she cannot cook.

“I like the idea of being able to cook but I just can’t do

it,” Beyoncé revealed to WENN. “I have to call my mom and she has to be on the

phone the whole time because I’m burning stuff.”

I guess Jay didn’t put a ring on it for her culinary skills.

At least not in the kitchen. Bang, bang, bang!!

While Bey tries to find another way to make stomachs bust

for Thanksgiving, Pink would rather move past memories of turkey days gone bad.

The cause of it all, according to the pop star, was her willingness to drink

tequila with friends before eating lunch.

“I ended up with 13 stitches in my hand, the food was all

over the floor,” recalled the pop star, who told Access Hollywood that “We decided between six of us to drink three

bottles of Patron before 11am, and when somebody was saying grace, I decided

that the sweet potatoes should be on my father-in-law’s head, so I dumped the

bowl on his head.”

Just when you think the alcohol could not do any more

damage, the mayhem continued as Pink remembers having a close call in the

kitchen and her bedroom.

“I ended up in the pool, and I almost had a heart attack and

then I was chopping ice and I cut my hand open, had to go to the ER but I

couldn’t feel a thing; it was fascinating actually – when you’re that

drunk and you can just watch the stitches happening,” the songstress said. “And

then I set my bedroom on fire because we (Pink and ex-husband Carey Hart) went

upstairs to have a quickie (sex) and I left a cigarette in the oven mitt.”

So there you have it. A few reasons why you should not drink

and give thanks. That’s a lot to go through to get your turkey stuffed on

Turkey Day.

In Other Words…

*  Looks like

the ruckus over California’s same-sex marriage ban has brought out comedian

Wanda Sykes, who officially came out recently at a gay right’s rally in Las

Vegas.

“You know, I don’t really talk about my sexual orientation.

I didn’t feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the

closet, but I was living my life,” Sykes told a crowd as she felt like she was

“attacked” when Cali’s Proposition 8 passed. “Everybody that knows me

personally, they know I’m gay. But that’s the way people should be able to live

their lives.”

“Now, I gotta get in their face,” she continued. “I’m proud

to be a woman. I’m proud to be a Black woman, and I’m proud to be gay.”

*  After four

years of being out of the public eye, Syleena Johnson is on her way back with

her upcoming album, Chapter 4: Labor Pains.

The album, which includes the singles “It Is True” and “Shoo Fly,” will hit

stores on January 13, 2009.

Slick Rick and Whodini Kick Off Classic Hip-Hop Concert Series Fundraiser

Legendary rap stars Slick Rick and Whodini will hit the stage for the preservation of Hip-Hop culture as they help kick off the Classic Hip-Hop concert series.

The event, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 22) at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, is the brainchild of Cold Crush Brothers affiliate Adrian “Easy AD” Harris.

The music pioneer, along with Anthony “A-tone the Hip-Hop Historian” Hovington, teamed up with Donerson Research Group, Inc. CEO Haywood Donerson, III, to present the concert as a vehicle to promote the history, culture and art of Hip-Hop.

Other performers slated to appear include rap icon Kool Mo Dee as well as Roxanne Shante and Harris’ Cold Crush Brothers group mate DJ Tony Tone.

Proceeds from the Classic Hip-Hop concert series will go towards establishing a permanent museum exhibit on Hip-Hop that will feature items and artifacts from the culture’s early days.

The event, a joint venture between Harris and Hovington’s Classic Hip-Hop LLC and Donerson Research Group, Inc., is the latest project from Classic Hip-Hop.

The company, founded in 2005, is dedicated towards preserving and promoting the positive aspects of Hip-Hop culture.

Those looking for a deeper understanding of Hip-Hop can get an up-close look at those who helped paved the way for its standing as a worldwide phenomenon, according to Harris, who will serve as host for Saturday’s concert.

“We want people to come out, bring their sons and daughters to experience innovative Hip-Hop music from Classic Hip-Hop artists,” the businessman told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “Hip-Hop has come a long way and with this concert series and exhibit opening, we will help bring the culture full circle. We are not just putting on a concert but, raising the funds and awareness to bring this exhibit to life for generations to come.”

In addition to the performers, international radio personality Donnie Simpson will be on hand for the show to donate his personal jacket worn in the movie Krush Groove.

The Washington DC concert will be followed by 10 shows in nine cities across the country.

Digits: The Top 10 Worst Fads In Hip-Hop History (Part 1 of 2)

Hip-Hop is a revolution in thought and culture. When you think of the movement in that way, then you know it has been known to produce dramatic changes in society. It has also  spawned a plethora of trends that seep well into America’s main vein. Some of these fads aren’t so good for the lifeblood of such a creative and vibrant generation.

We present “The Top 10 Worst Fads In Hip-Hop History.”

HIP-HOP HOUSE (HIP HOUSE MUSIC)

House music swept the nation in the late 80’s. It was like the new disco. People slowly started to loosen up their b-boy stances a bit and dance. But, as is always the case, some people took it overboard. After the Jungle Brothers hit it big with “Girl, I’ll House You,” the entire Hip-Hop community saw an opportunity to get some recognition. There were some good ones like “Stomp” by K-Yze and Queen Latifah’s. But, then there were really bad ones from Hip-Hop favorites like Craig G’s “Turn This House Into A Home.”  Most disappointing was underground hardocre act EPMD droping…”It’s Time To Party.”  Sigh. There was a period where everyone had the obligatory house joint on the album. Thank the gods that era is in the dirt.

Example:

Exception:

King Sun was one of the hardest rappers out in the late 80’s. Somehow he managed to craft a club banger with “On The Club Tip,” and still maintain credibility as a Five Percent brother and intimidating figure.

HAMMER PANTS

They were unlike anything we had ever seen, unless you saw your old, drunk uncle relieve himself in his pants and watch them sag in the nastiest way possible. Hammer Pants. There were those that loved them and those that hated them. And then there was another category: those that wore them. Those that actually went out and purchased the silky looking (but probably rayon) drawlz. Now, this isn’t a slight to MC Hammer, the iconic rapper that created the look. He was doing him. While everybody wasn’t appreciative of his style, they had to respect (at some point) the power, influence and sales that were generated by his Hammer Pants.

Example:

Exception:

When you really look back at the legacy of MC Hammer, he deserves commendation. He deflected disses from everybody from Run DMC to 3rd Base to Redman, and proved to be one of rap’s biggest success stories. And he did it  wearing the loosest pants in rap history.

HORRORCORE

At one point, Gangsta rap just wasn’t hard enough for Hip-Hop. Like, seriously, shooting people just wasn’t gory enough. Now, unlike Hip-Hop House music, Horrorcore has a lot of notable acts that put out some good music and still do. Think Brotha Lynch Hung, Esham and Natas, Ganksta N-I-P (who ghostwrote some of Geto Boy Bushwick Bill’s songs), The Geto Boys and The Gravediggaz. These guys were doing the music before Entertainment Weekly came and gave it a name. As soon as it was called “Horrorcore,” it turned into our worst nightmare. When Russell Simmons tossed his cousin into the fad, we knew the party was commercially over and the macabre was on the surface to be cannibalized.

Example:

Exception:

Ganksta NIP never had a rap video. He was relegated to nothing but underground love. Yet, one has to ask, “Did he need a rap video for that things he rapped about?” The answer is no. His rhymes were cinematic enough.

SKINNY JEANS AND EXTRA SMEDIUM CLOTHING

There are some fads that Hip-Hop flat out rejects and has rejected for years. Suddenly, there is a paradigm shift that signifies “S**t changed” and you didn’t get the memo. Some say it started with Kanye West and others say it was Europe. Either way the Skinny Jeans and Extra Smedium (extra small and medium) clothing movement still continues long after it was assumed that cats like Kanye and John Legend were lonely advocates. No, they freed everybody’s sense of the fashion faux pas. (Editor’s note: these are the extreme and unfortunate opposite of the MC Hammer pants movement.)

Example:

Exception:

Cats like Lenny Kravitz and Seal… they can do this and we won’t say a word. Rock on, dudes!

GETTING ARRESTED AS ALBUM PROMOTION

Sure, this is a stretch as a fad. Still, rappers and their marketing teams have made getting arrested a strategy in their promo push. Rumors have flown for years that exects at major labels have plot and planned deviant behavior for rappers to engage in just to promote an album.

Example:

In August, Rapper Yung Berg was arrested in New York for possession of a handgun, possession of marijuana and “menacing” a limo driver. Now, the rapper must live in a “bizzarro” world because, according to tmz, he “took” the charge for his buddies a mere two days before his debut album dropped. These stories have carried on for years and years and now seem to be petering out. Thank you!

Exception:

When T.I. got arrested before the ’07 BET Hip-Hop Awards, people dismissed it as a stunt…for about two seconds. Soon, it was clear that Tip had gotten into a real mess. Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrested Tip on charges of buying three illegal machine guns and a couple silencers. It was far from the smartest move and equally far from the phoniest.

Sam’s Club, The Schwan Food Company and GM are sponsors of the holiday food boxes that needy families will receive.

The Ludacris Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization which was founded in 2001 by Ludacris.

Black Enterprise magazine recently named The Ludacris Foundation as one of the top twenty “Leading Philanthropy Foundations” this year.

T.I. To Give Testimony Friday; Upcoming Project With Bon Jovi Guitarist

Grammy Award-winning rapper T.I. is scheduled to appear in a Cincinnati courtroom Friday to offer his testimony against Hosea Thomas, the 34-year-old man accused of killing the rapper’s childhood friend and personal assistant Philant Johnson in 2006.

The Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist will offer his account of the chain of events that led to a car chase and gun battle in which Thomas is accused of firing at two vans carrying T.I.’s entourage along I-75 in Cincinnati in the early morning hours of May 3.

The altercation left Johnson dead at the scene and four others injured.

T.I.’s testimony comes on the third day of witness accounts as the Hamilton County prosecutor’s office presents its case against Thomas.

So far, the jury selected on Monday (November 7), has heard from eyewitnesses, members of T.I.’s entourage and a person who was in the Jeep Cherokee with Thomas on the night in question.

No word on whether that person was the prosecution’s star witness, 40-year-old Padron Thomas, who provided authorities with incriminating evidence against his brother Hosea as part of a plea deal.In related news, T.I. is reportedly expanding his musical repertoire as well.

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has revealed that one of his many upcoming projects is a collaboration with the Atlanta rapper.

Sambora did not provide details as to whether the collaboration would be for Bon Jovi’s upcoming greatest hits album, which will feature new material by the rock band.

Salt-N-Pepa Planning Tour, Brand New Album

After a seven-year hiatus from touring, pioneering female rap group Salt-N-Pepa are planning to embark on a tour of Australia and Asia.Cheryl “Salt” James-Wray and Sandra “Pepa” Denton are currently booking dates for the tour, which will also feature the group’s DJ, Deidra “Spinderella” Roper. The group will hit the road in late 2009-early 2010, as part of a number of upcoming initiatives, which includes a brand new, untitled album.”The main thing about Salt-N- Pepa, is that they are a performing group, which takes pride in their performances and are known as a group that puts on spectacular shows [and] it is strictly about maintaining the brand,” group manager Gavin Wray explained to AllHipHop.com. “It is not about the money, we don’t necessarily need to do gigs on the regular, we would rather maintain the brand and make the right choices collectively and when the time is right and the group is ready we will hit the stage like we never left. That is one of the main reason’s why Salt -N- Pepa’s image has been polished and respected as a group on and off the stage for so many years and years to come.”Salt-N-Pepa were the first female Hip-Hop group to achieve mainstream success, selling over 20 million records worldwide since their debut in 1985.The group was the subject of their own reality show titled The Salt-N-Pepa show, which aired on VH1 in 2007.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Soulja Boy Stole Dance? The Roots In Accident! Rapper Raps About REAL Shooting…

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

THE DAILY TWO CENTS

I went and did something different today. I did some research and I wrote a story on “Going Green: The Hip-Hop Way.” I’m getting some good feedback (any feedback is good though), so please check it out. That is the main reason the rumors were late today. No, it wasn’t the fact that there is a drought in anything really great. As usual – IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING – [email protected]. And shout out to Julien in Brussels!

THE ROOTS IN BUS ACCIDENT!

Brussels is the capital of a beautiful little country called Belgium. I have a scoop for you fans of The Roots. The group was involved in an accident between a car and their tour bus in which they traveled. The Roots and their musicians were reportedly coming from Germany and had to pass through Belgium to reach Paris, France. From what I have been told, they are playing as opening act for Kanye West this Thursday. The two vehicles ran into each other on a freeway and went off-road. And, the bus ended up leaning on the other car. The seven members of the band had to be taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, no word on who was treated. I did hear that Questlove was taken in, but is fine. Nobody was seriously injured as crazy as that sounds. I heard the whole Roots crew was sleeping when the crash happened so they didn’t see a thing. They were a bit shocked, I am hearing! Anyway, I just want to thank Brussels for taking care of The Roots. Maybe they should come back and do a free show!

TACO BELL DISSES 50 CENT

Remember when 50 Cent sued Taco Bell when they asked him to change is name to 79 Cent, in an effort to promote their taco meals? Well, 50 didn’t think the offer was funny…so he sued them. Now, Taco Bell has fired back and their opponent. Check out this report that was emailed to me. I don’t know the source unfortunately.

In legal papers filed in Federal court, the Bell’s lawyers claim 50’s tough-talking $4 million trademark infringement lawsuit from this summer was just a publicity stunt — but it’s the personal shots they fire at Fiddy that really spice things up.

Bell’s peeps tried to attack 50’s credibility, saying his work “falls in the subgenre of hip hop music known as ‘gangsta rap,’ a style associated with urban street gangs and characterized by violent, tough-talking braggadocio.” They also claim that Fiddy only filed the lawsuit to “burnish his gangsta rapper persona” — ’cause nothing builds street cred like a lawsuit.

50 sued over Taco Bell’s lame promo where they offered to give $10K to charity if the rapper changed his name.

GAME BOY STARTING HIS RAP CAREER

First of all, the boy’s name is Mbekezeli Ndlovu. He is know known as “The Game Boy,” because he rapped with Game when the Compton G was in South Africa. The new rumor I am hearing is that the Game Boy and The Game will be doing a song together in December. Big ups to Chauke.

Listen to the “Game Boy” talking about his experience.

Check it out here:

SOULJA BITER?

I heard about this a ways back in the Ill Community. Click here to see the evidence of this. My girl Nastashia hit me up and she was heated! She saw the video to “Bird Walk” the other day. Like in the IC, she believes Soulja Boy stole that dance from an artist out of Cincinnati by the name of Tocka. Also, she says the video is originally called “the down the way.” The song/dance has been real big in Cincinnati and surrounding areas since like 2003. Also, I gather artists like Chris Brown have done the dance in videos in the recent past. I wonder what Soulja Boy’s response is going to be to these allegations.THE GHOSTFACE RUMOR UPDATEI heard that Ghostface was knocked overseas; because one of his people were holding something they shouldn’t have been holding. Actually, the rumor is his DJ was in possession of “contraband” and they pulled them all in. They were moving from the UK to a show in Paris, from what I understand.  Now, I am not sure about this one, but apparently, the local authorities enforced something related to child support on Ghostface. I really didn’t know that international authorities worked together like that over something non-threatening like that. On the other hand, we are moving to this whole One World government so nothing surprises me now.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Stephen Baldwin boldly claimed that if Barack Obama won the presidency, he would leave the country. Well? Dude reneged on his promise and now claims he was joking.

Diddy is going to appear on “CSI: Miami” in a winter episode.

The other day the Miami Heat played the Washington Wizards in D.C. last night. I heard Serena Williams was in attendance. She reportedly didn’t look happy when they showed her on the Jumbotron. Wonder why…

Ciara’s CD has been pushed all the way back to spring of 2009! She has also been ordered to pay a former manager some back pay.

Is it me or is Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce a response to the Rihanna rage? I will state emphatically that there is no beef and these two are more than cordial.

I heard from a reliable source that either 50 Cent wants to play Dutch in the upcoming movie based on the hood classic book.

The NY Post sent a shot at Dame Dash in their gossip segment. They said, “Damon Dash couldn’t sit still during John Galliano’s speech at the CFDA Fashion Fund and told his table at Sky light Studios he was “bugging out,” prompting a guest to say, “He was really a mess””

I wasn’t going to mention this, but I guess I have to say something. “Al Qaeda front man” Ayman Zawahiri has called Barack Obama “a dishonorable black” and “a House Negro.” Really? Like…do we believe this?

Now this is crazy. According to rumor, Madonna’s daughter Lourdes and Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez were reportedly seen shopping at Barneys in Beverly Hills. Madonna wasn’t even there. Furthermore, that’s against the rule Madge gave Guy Ritchie. “No new friends,” she said. Maybe A-Rod isn’t new since we’ve heard rumors for quite a while.

There is nothing popping off between Tyrese and Brandy.Click here to see Jay-Z, Nas and Memph Bleek rock THE TUNNEL IN NYC!

RANDOM QUOTES

Akon is coming to the rescue of MiJac’s honor (bossip.com):

“That guy’s a genius, man. That’s probably the highlight of my career. He’s the most humble cool dude. When you stop and think about all of the controversies and articles on him, they don’t even reflect the person that I saw. I always say if people got the chance to actually meet the man behind all of the controversy, they would be embarrassed to even have that thought. He’s totally different from the normal perception that you see.”

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

This is beyond strange. The state of Washington has agreed to pay $300,000 to a former inmate how somehow had his penis eaten up by flesh-eating bacteria. When his bozack was eaten, he was in jail, under their care. According to The Seattle Times, he’ll still have to contend with lawyer fees, leaving him about $115,000. The man said, “It’s been a nightmare. I figured I should settle for what I could get because I just want it behind me. It’s unreal. It’s like something from Mars.” I don’t know if this helps bring perspective to it all, but he is 61. He got sick, but the jail didn’t diagnose it right and gave him medicine that would facilitate the bacteria that would show down on his privates. I think he needs to put a higher value on his Jimmy. Pause.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END PART 2

Check this out, an 8 year old kills his own father and friend and confesses:

EPIC FAIL

I almost considered this a fail, but this is too much. Killer Mike loves to proclaim rappers are dumb, by and large and this lends credibility to that notion. There is a rapper that shot somebody and then snitched on himself. Now did he snitch on himself? The fool wrote a rap song and in the song, he explains what he did and reveals exactly who he shot. Let me repeat this. A rapper from Dublin, GA shot a man, rapped about it and then said, “Chad Blue knows how I shoot.” His name is Todriquez Wright and he will spend the next 20 years in prison now. SMH! What sort of new mutant form of fool are we raising?

EPIC FAIL – PART 2

Trademarc of East Coast Avengers: Hunting Bill O’Reilly

Trademarc is one of the authors of a ravenous diss track that has been circulating the web for the past few weeks. In the song by East Coast Avengers (Trademarc, Esoteric, DC the Midi Alien), the Massachusetts bred MC flings around scathing lyrics like, “I’ll stalk your house, knock you out, gag your mouth, drag you out…,” and, “F**k making fun of you in punchlines/I’d rather kill your family in front of you by lunchtime.” But the target is not some other rapper, it’s actually infamous conservative pundit Bill O’Reilly and the song, available on their album Poison Planet, is called “Kill Bill O’Reilly.” Needless to say, it has ruffled some feathers. AllHipHop.com: You got quite a song buzzing’ out there. What about Bill O’Reilly gets to you?Trademarc: He’s a bully and will air footage in order to make himself look better. He’s one of the most ignorant human beings and that song is a stand against that in general.AllHipHop.com: Are you comfortable with people having this song as their first introduction to you?Trademarc: Yeah absolutely. It lets people know we’re not afraid to stay away from things that a lot of people wanna say, but won’t say. AllHipHop.com: Concerning the different media outlets, how big has the controversy been? Trademarc: There were some serious threats. Michelle Malkin was one of the first people who came after us. She was totally stereotyping saying, “Don’t you have a plane to steal, don’t you have women to slap, and children to neglect?” But for the most part, people didn’t say anything about us aside from these political sites, who were getting down right racist and nasty. They figured that we were Black and we weren’t white. So they were attacking us on that level and it was kinda funny to see their reaction. They were calling us monkeys and calling us all these names without anything viable to go with it. AllHipHop.com: Have you got any invitations—either TV or radio—to explain the song?Trademarc: We were on a public radio station here. It went actually pretty well. The woman asked me to explain my point of view, but then again we got phone calls of people wanting our real names so they could come and fight us. I told them, “You know where I am right now. I’m on the radio station.” They were stereotypically trying to lump us into a group and they were wrong. They thought it was three mindless savages making a song, [but] we’re intellectual people that know the score, are well read, and can back the stuff up.AllHipHop.com: Are your political views liberal in general?Trademarc: I would say technically more liberal, but I would also say if I was gonna label myself, probably independent. Those labels separate people and that’s exactly what the government wants. They want people to separate themselves because they’re easy to control. The same thing with organized religion. As soon as people choose religion, they already separate themselves from each other. It’s like culture, color, religion, and now it’s Democrat and Republican. As soon as they separate you, they already won a small battle. AllHipHop.com: How did you come up with the concept for the video?Trademarc: Brainstorming. The guy that did the video had done some creative stuff before. I wanted to keep it kind of Sin City-ish. We didn’t want to get too flashy. We wanted to keep it gritty. We didn’t have a lot of creative control over that. We added a couple of things, but it was mostly the guy we worked with.AllHipHop.com: Did you feel comfortable with having the Bill O’Reilly stand-in in the video?Trademarc: It’s funny, he didn’t really look like him. No one said anything and he was cool guy too. It was fun to do. AllHipHop.com: If you were to run into the real Bill O’Reilly man-to-man, what would you say to him?Trademarc: Just stop. I know everybody has a right to free speech, but just stop. Stop with the lies. If you’re gonna be on TV, respect the integrity of what you should be doing which is journalism. AllHipHop.com: How are you gonna use the controversy from the single to fuel the album?Trademarc: We gonna plug it away with politic tracks. We got some stuff lined up we’re hoping will blow people’s socks off more. We can have some hardcore Hip-Hop bangers that let up on the politic stuff so that the underground heads can get into but we also have the politic side of us, which is a huge side of what we are. We’re representing the people who want change and I think that that it’s a wide demographic. That’s not just Hip-Hop kids, that’s not just 40 year olds that have 401Ks and worry about retirement.A lot of people hate Bill O’Reilly too. A lot of people call him out—Jay-Z, Luda… it’s good to see these major artists doing stuff. I think Young Jeezy’s new record has a lot of political stuff on it.  I haven’t had a chance to peep it yet, you know it’s really a good thing to see that, hopefully we’ll embrace that too and we’ll see a little less singing and dancing a little more political stuff.
