Kanye, MTV Address Iraq War

MTV’s “Choose or Lose ‘08” campaign has tapped Kanye West as the latest ally to aid in its efforts to bring awareness to the issues faced by young veterans of the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a new special set to air Monday (Jul 28) at 10pm, West will join MTV personality Sway Calloway to bring the stories of three returning vets as they adjust to life back home.

“Choose or Lose & Kanye West Present: Homecoming” brings viewers along as Sway and Kanye surprise Tirann Laws, Shameeka Gray and Lorenzo Zarate by visiting their homes to thank them for their service in the war in Iraq.

“I know my music inspires and helps a lot of people but you can always do more,” said West. “I teamed up with MTV and took the opportunity to share the spotlight with these veterans and hear their stories. I went to their homes to listen and get their first hand experiences. I wanted to hear their stories.

“There are hundreds of veterans out there who are falling through the cracks,” adds the multi-platinum Grammy Award-winning rapper and producer. “They make the ultimate sacrifices for us by laying down their lives, but it seems like a lot of them just get forgotten about.”

During the hour-long “Homecoming” special, Sway and Kanye will present the three spotlighted vets with a very special gift on behalf of MTV and the Dr. Donda West Foundation, paying off debts and taking care of rents and tuitions.

Laws, Gray and Zarate were chosen to represent a diverse cross-section of the more than 1.7 million young people who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan to date.

In addition to sharing their struggles, “Homecoming” aims to encourage viewers to get involved, highlighting the many resources available at Chooseorlose.com and through the Donda West Foundation.

The Chooseorlose.com is also a portal for viewers to interact directly with the “Homecoming” special.

“The stories of the veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are important and worth telling.” said MTV News and Production Executive VP Dave Sirulnick. “In conversations with veterans over the last year, it became clear that Kanye’s music is used by soldiers in Iraq as a way of connecting to home. Once these veterans return home, their stories are so moving that you can’t help but want to do the right thing and help them out.”

Since 1992, the Emmy-Award winning Choose or Lose campaign has worked to not only inform young people on the political issues that matter to them most, but also to support and encourage young voters to take action.

In 2004, the campaign inspired nearly 22 million 18-30 year olds to register and vote.

Max B. Reveals Details On Shooting

On Tuesday July 22, Max B’s scheduled performance for Hot 97’s “Who’s Next Concert” nearly ended in tragedy after a group of men entered the SOB venue and shot a round into Max’s VIP section.

While no one was hurt, speculation began about who the group was and why they held such animosity for the former Diplomat member.

In an exclusive statement to AllHipHop.com, Max B clarified his role in the altercation.

“I had no control over it. I didn’t want any trouble,” Max explains. “I never want any, but people despise me. They are jealous and envious, and they’re gonna do whatever they can to stop my movement.”

After the shooting, the club was immediately vacated for police to conduct a thorough investigation.

When questioned about the identity of his attackers, Max insists he does not know who was involved.

“I didn’t know the wannabe thugs who let off a round,” he quipped.

Max B’s latest set, Domain Diego, was released on June 10.

His next offering, Public Domain 3: Domain Pain is scheduled for August 5.

Profanity Charge Against Boots Riley Dropped

A profanity charge against rapper Raymond “Boots” Riley has been dismissed by a court judge, AllHipHop.com has learned.

The charge stemmed from Riley’s appearance at the Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food festival Town Point Park in Norfolk, Virginia in June.

The rapper, who is best known as a member of the Oakland California rap group The Coup, was accused of using obscenity when he performed a song that included the phrase “What the F***? in the chorus.

Riley’s profanity charge originated from a law that had never been applied to a performer.

Riley’s case marked the first time the law had been enforced in 26 years, sources revealed, although it was ultimately ruled that the statute Riley was charged under was unconstitutional because of the First Amendment.

Riley, who was not present in court on Wednesday, maintained that festival sponsors, FestEvents, knew about the song beforehand.

In addition, the rapper said profanity is often part of his performances and that he was never warned not to curse.

Jimmy Iovine Still Running Interscope

A representative for Interscope founder Jimmy Iovine has denied reports that he has been replaced at the company has founded.

Rumors began to spread after a blog post implied that the label was in turmoil, due to a number of artists being dropped from the labels roster.

Additionally, reports that Busta Rhymes was dropped and the weak sales of 50 Cent and G-Unit’s Terminate on Sight helped perpetuate the rumor, which is false, AllHipHop.com has learned.

“The story is complete nonsense and it is utterly untrue,” Peter LoFrumento, Executive VP for Univesal Music Group, told AllHipHop.com exclusively.

Before founding Interscope in 1990, Jimmy Iovine was also a critically acclaimed producer.

Via producing and Interscope, Iovine has helped guide the careers of a number of popular artists, including U2, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Nelly Furtado, The Black Eyed Peas and numerous others.

Shape Up: The Yoganator – Russell Simmons Gets Fit with Yoga, So Can You! Check the Tecnique

Hey what’s good

everybody? I know that Writing 101

states that I shouldn’t lead off with my most compelling argument, however my

goal is to prevent all of the fellas out there from clicking back over to illseed’s

rumors too quickly.

So with that said, let me

just start by saying that many pro sports teams now incorporate yoga into their

training to increase flexibility, strength and balance. Also, Def Jam founder

Russell Simmons has been practicing yoga for over 14 years, and he managed to

pull Kimora Lee – so enough said, right?

This edition of Shape Up is

an introduction to yoga. Like many of you, I thought that if I ever took a yoga

class, aside from being laughed at by all of my male friends, I’d somehow end

up tying myself into a pretzel, or that I’d have to start wearing a backpack,

burning incense and eating lots of granola. To my surprise however, not only

were there other guys in the class, I was actually better at it than I thought.

Admittedly, I only took

that first class because my girlfriend was the instructor and I was willing to

bend over backwards…. literally to get those digits (mission accomplished,

holla atcha boy!).  Aside from making my

way into her cell phone contact list however, I’ve actually found many other

benefits that have taken my participation level beyond that of a supportive

boyfriend.

The biggest change that I

noticed was in my flexibility. Flexibility is heavily regarded as one of the five

key components of fitness (the others being aerobic and cardio endurance,

muscular endurance, muscular strength and body composition).  If your muscles and joints and constantly

tight, you’ll have a limited range of motion that will affect your athletic

performance and day-to-day activities. You’re also more prone to injury and

cramping.

Although I’m no yoga expert

by any means, during the few months that I have been taking these classes, I’ve

noticed that my hamstrings, back, shoulders and hips are now much looser, which

allows me to pile on more weight in the gym and maneuver around defenders

faster on the court.

As a result of this extra

range of motion, my strength has also increased. Many of the yoga poses involve

supporting your own body weight for extended periods of time, which will help

to develop and tone muscles without making them overly bulky. If achieving that

look is your goal however, the added strength will help you pack on size easier

as well.

Over time, you’ll also

begin to notice an increase in balance. This is especially important as you

grow older and that ability begins to diminish. The same can be said for your

posture and the ability to hold yourself upright. Yoga will help remedy

slouching and various physical ailments by realigning your body and relaxing

tense muscles.

You’ll also learn how to

breathe correctly. That sounds like a silly statement since you’re born knowing

how to breathe, but most of us take relatively shallow breaths. Yoga however

forces you fill your lungs and actually focus on your breathing which is good

not only for your conditioning, but also for reducing stress. It’s a fast paced

world, so having a place to let your mind be free is great for your temperament

and psyche.

Ok, so now that you know a

few of the benefits, hopefully you’re ready to give it a shot.  If you’d prefer to start off in the privacy

and comfort of your own home, you can probably find a quality DVD online or at

your local video store. The only downside is that they might not come with a mat

for you to lie on, so you may want to invest in one. They’re relatively cheap and will provide you

with a softer surface that will come in handy during certain movements. Some

video packages even come with mats included, so search around. Other possible

pieces of equipment you may want are straps to help with certain stretching

postures and blocks, which assist in balance movements.

Of course, that’s a lot of

paper to invest if this is just going to be an experiment for you.  In that case, your best bet would be to

locate a gym or a yoga studio near you. Most of those places will have mats

that you can use (although depending on the level of cleanliness at your

facility, you may want to spray these items down before using them to avoid

coming in contact with someone else’s sweat).

Before proceeding into the

room, your first step should be to check you ego at the door.  Yoga is about personal growth so it’s a

nonjudgmental environment. It’s not a competition to see who can tie themselves

into a knot first, so try to relax and just get in tune with your body. Even

though it might be hard to let yourself go in a group setting, the advantage

over watching a video is that a live instructor can assist you and talk you

through movements so that you don’t hurt yourself.

There are many different

styles of yoga, so that might cause some confusion as you try to narrow down a

class to take. All of the styles share a common lineage though so no particular

style is necessarily better than another; it’s simply a matter of personal

preference. The primary differences usually pertain the emphasis of the class,

such as focusing on coordination of breath and movement, strict alignment of

the body, holding the postures, or flowing from one posture to another.

More important than any

style is the connection that you’ll build between yourself and the instructor,

so if you sense a bad vibe from the start, beyond normal first day jitters of

course, that may not be the best class for you.

There are many yoga websites

out there that will list the various types of classes, so I won’t bore you with

a full history and description of every discipline, however here are a few

styles that you might want to check out:

Ashtanga: This is

also referred to as Power Yoga in some facilities. This style of yoga provides

a serious workout as you jump from one posture to another in order to build

strength, flexibility and stamina.

Bikram: This is

also referred to as Hot Yoga, and has been getting a lot of hype recently since

a lot of celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon. If you don’t like to sweat,

you should sit this one out, since it’s practiced in a classroom that’s heated

between 110 and 120 degrees Celsius! In each class, the same 26 poses are

performed in order to help cleanse the body from the inside out. It’s a great

workout, however you’ll need to make sure that your facility is absolutely

spotless. The extreme heat provides a breeding ground for germs so if the gym

holding this class doesn’t look immaculate, you’ll want to proceed with

caution.

Iyengar: This

class focuses on understanding the human body and how it functions.  There’s an emphasis on symmetry and alignment

using props such as straps, blankets, blocks, and chairs to achieve postures.

Each pose is held for a longer amount of time than in most other yoga

styles.

Vinyasa:  This is the style of yoga that my girl

teaches. This practice emphasizes coordinating breath with movement. You’ll

flow from one movement to another but at a smoother and slower pace than you

would in Power Yoga. This style is great for beginners, as each pose is chosen

to suit the student’s abilities. It’s also a very relaxing and non-stress

environment so you’re less likely to feel uncomfortable or intimidated.

There really are many more yoga disciplines than the few

that I just highlighted so be sure to do your research. Whichever style you

choose, try to approach the situation with an open mind and take what you can

from the experience. And if you’re a single guy, is being surrounded by dozens

of women breathing heavily ever a bad thing?

Anyway, I hope that you all give it a shot. As for me, I’m

throwing on my backpack and heading to the store…I’m almost out of granola.

Until next time be good…or be good at it.

-Darrell

Here is the MP3 soundtrack to go along with this edition’s

topic – crunchy backpacker edition!:

“Mr. Dobalina” – Del The Funky Homosapien

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III continues to hover at the top of the sales chart, dropping from #1 to #2, selling an additional 105,000 copies. Dre Talks Detox, New Headphones Hitting Stores

The six year wait for Detox may be coming to a close, as Dr. Dre has confirmed plans to release his highly anticipated third solo album by the end of the year.

After years of fine-tuning and direction changes, the legendary producer finally feels the project is ready for mass consumption.

“I’m just now, over the last couple months, starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” Dr. Dre explained to USA Today. “In a perfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”

Recording for the project began in 2003, and tentative dates were announced every single year afterward, only to see the album constantly pushed back due to Dre’s perfectionist demeanor.

Like its predecessors The Chronic (1992) and The Chronic 2001, many expect Detox to raise the bar for producers in Hip-Hop.

For Dre, it’s simply about making great music, and hopefully the accolades come.

“I’ve never set out to do that,” states Dre. “I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don’t put it out until I’m totally happy with it. Then it does what it does…I’m going to put this record out, promote it, and then become a hermit,” Dre explains. “I’m going to stay in the studio and produce. All I want to do is sit in the studio with that person (a new artist) for a year and try to create another masterpiece.”

For guests, Dre has confirmed collaborations with Nas, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z.

On the business end, Dre also disclosed a venture with Monster, a leader in audio/video accessories, called Beats by Dr. Dre. Dre, Interscope head Jimmy Iovine, and Monster have developed high definition powered isolation headphones available on Friday (July 25) exclusively at Best Buy and Apple stores for $349.95.

Iovine and Dre’s goal was to create a product that duplicated the clarity of recording studios.

“Dre and I have been developing these headphones for awhile and in Monster we found a partner that could work with us to crystallize his vision and develop them to the quality he expects,” Iovine said. “Beats By Dr. Dre is yet another example of Interscope’s commitment with its artists in developing new avenues to experience music.”

For more information visit the official website www.beatsbydre.com.

Detox is tentatively scheduled for a November or December 2008 release.

Rock The Bells Festival Hits Toronto

Toronto’s true Hip-Hop heads came out in droves to Arrow Hall on July 20th, where they were treated to an uneven, but largely enjoyable all day show. Earlier in the afternoon, the crowd was laced with short sets from Kidz In The Hall, Jay Electronica, Murs and The Pharcyde.

However, the vibe intensified when the heavy hitters of the bill began taking their turns rocking the heads in attendance. Mos Def turned out an energetic and lively set, touching largely on material from his latest album True Magic and Black On Both Sides. He sounded particularly crisp over “Unbelievable” and crowd favorite “Ms. Fat Booty”.

After a short break, the original microphone fiend Rakim took the stage to chorus of cheers as his DJ Kid Capri screamed at the crowd informing us that we were about to experience some “real f***ing Hip-Hop!”

Unfortunately, Rakim’s set was marred by sound problems. Kid Capri had a losing battle with the decks and he and Rakim had some choice words for the sound crew. Too bide time, Rakim dropped a nice a cappela freestyle which temporarily won the crowd over. He threatened to walk off stage at one point, but once Capri had the decks back under his control, he blew through the rest of his set with aggression, especially on the classic Eric B. and Rakim track “Paid In Full”.

Next up were Method Man and Redman. They took to the stage smoking you know what and tore through a hard rock version of their hit “Da Rockwilder”. They blew through their forty five minute set working the crowd into froth with the lighter-raising anthem “How High”.

After what seemed like an eternity, the pressure was finally released when Nas, walked on stage to the opening notes of “You Can’t Stop Us Now” off his latest disc Untitled. He launched into “N.*.*.*.*.*” and had the crowd in the palm of his hand from that moment on.

Backed by DJ Green Lantern, Nas moved with ease through some of his latest material (“Hero”, “Black President”) which ended up being overshadowed by his classics “Represent”, “If I Ruled The World” and “Hate Me Now”.

The reunited A Tribe Called Quest, were certainly going to have a tough act to follow after Nas’ memorable performance. Little did we know we’d only get to see A Tribe Called Tip? After a thirty minute plus wait, the restless and tired masses seemed puzzled when Q-Tip finally took the stage with Mos Def. The two were backed by a live band and ran through a set dedicated to the late J Dilla and some of Tip’s solo material.

Once Tip began dipping into the Tribe material minus the services of Phife Dawg and Ali Shaheed Muhommad, it was clear this wasn’t the Tribe that we had waited all day to see.

Fans began filing out of the now empty-looking venue wondering just what happened. If Phife and Ali were hiding out backstage, waiting to make their grand entrance, the thousands leaving never got to find out.

[EDITOR’S NOTE: A Tribe Called Quest did perform a thirty plus minute set after The Abstract did his solo big. Phife hit the stage with a surprising energy while Ali was his usual reserved self. The Tribe killed it. Sorry for the glaring ommision.]

40 Cal: Dipset Delegate

First introduced as a part of the Diplomats with a tremendous freestyle battle rep, 40 Cal was almost a hidden secret for a while. But for the past two years, the Harlem rapper has gradually grown out of the long shadow cast by his multi-talented Dipset crew, sharpening his own versatility by moving beyond battle rhymes.Fresh off the release of last year’s, Broken Safety 2 and poised to drop Mooga on August 5th, 40 Cal speaks on his transition to becoming a full-fledged artist. The high caliber rhyme deliver tackling the hot questions that anyone affiliated with Dipset has been prompted to answer about the status of the group and if another group album can be expected. Lock and load. AllHipHop.com: From the feedback from Broken Safety 2 do you feel that killed any doubt people from people who may have only labeled you as a mixtape or battle rapper?40 Cal: Yeah, I’m just letting people know periodically that I does this man. I don’t know of any other mixtape battle rapper you may say that really put out projects and stuff like I look at y’all Web site, AllHipHop, all the time and various other Web sites and I see comments and little interviews they do and they all talkin’ the same thing; they complain they’re getting mistreated, they project is not getting handled the right way. I’m not a complainer I’m one of them dudes that’s just gonna do me regardless whatever the situation and the fans can see that in my work so I’m happy with the turn out with Broken Safety 2.AllHipHop.com: With Mooga that’s almost less than a year between the two albums so what would you say is the main difference. I heard that you reached out to some MySpace producers is that true?40 Cal: Oh yeah exactly, exactly. On this one I just wanted to give a lot of people that reached out to me a shot. Everyday literally like 10 new producers they send me beats and you know I just wanted to pick the hottest ones and show the general public that I really think the best talent is unsigned. I want to let people know there’s some real hungry people out there and they’re gonna see from the turn out that album and the whole production it’s like one of my best pieces of work. AllHipHop.com: Would you say the new album is a little more focused than Broken Safety 2 considering that it started out as a mixtape and you polished it up to be a full album?40 Cal: Yeah, this one I can say that because it just shows more growth. Like Broken Safety 2 in my eyes is a classic and a lot of people that hear it for the first time tell me that a lot of new fans or whatever the case may be but this one is just like I know it’s what I call I got a word called play me proof. You can hear this whole album and you cannot tell me it’s not hot unless you just a hater or maybe my music is not for you but I touch all genres on this album.AllHipHop.com: Have you caught any flack from anyone not used to hearing the different sounds in the music you’re making now?40 Cal: Sometimes I lose sometimes on a comment, they’ll post little songs on these little Web sites and I read the comments from time to time, I just like to hear what the people saying, some people may not agree with it, but little do they know those are samples just to test the waters. If this was the NBA I just wanna be a dude that I can prove that I can play every position from to one guard to the forward, center and then if I want to I can take the uniform off and play coach. I just wanna be the all around best MC. I know Lil Wayne call himself the best MC but I obviously think I’m better and people that know me agree. A person that don’t know me would obviously not agree they’d be like are you buggin’, you know how it is. I’m a rebel in this game. I hope n****s don’t find out too late I’m one of them dudes, I am legend, [laughs].AllHipHop.com: As far as the whole Dipset controversy you’ve been pretty vocal about it at times maintaining it’s still gonna carry on as far as Dipset not leaving. 40 Cal: The way we stand on this whole Dipset thing is we all at the same barbeque, we just sitting at different tables. We all eating on the same grill, but we all just sitting at different tables right now, you know what I’m saying? That’s the best way to compare it because we all scream Dipset but it’s not as together as it used to be, that’s the obvious. I can’t even sit here and talk like that ain’t the obvious, but it’s just regular family business and time heals things but at the same time it is a movement and we’re all gonna move.AllHipHop.com: I think it was February or March when the track leaked, “Dipset is Ova” did anyone out of the crew approach you about that?40 Cal: Oh yeah, yeah. The funny thing about that, that song started out to be an intro to Mooga and what happened with that song was I sent Bezel the Pro Tools session I asked him what to do on that end. He kinda in my eyes… I didn’t agree when he took his verse but you know he has his own opinion but long story short I had the song and somehow it got leaked. I’m not saying Bezel did it or nothing like that but I’m just saying it got leaked. People thought it was a publicity stunt if that was the case I would do it right now before the album, you dig? I even spoke to the big homie and had to tell him, “’Cam like, yo you’re doing me dirty saying I’m saying Dipset’s over ,“ but at the end of the day he know how this game is and how people operate so he just was like he ain’t  really stress it. After they seen my views [Dipset] I make it make sense I wasn’t copping no pleas about the situation, I made the track but the name of the track was not called “Dipset is Ova”, it was called, “A Dipset Letter”.AllHipHop.com: You explained everybody’s still doing their own thing is there anything upcoming collectively?40 Cal: Duke Da God is one my close friends and he’s the only one that can really get the whole crew together on a whole back to five compilation type of album. I’m quite curious just like y’all, just like everybody else but it’s guaranteed that you’re gonna see another Diplomat project. Guaranteed. AllHipHop.com: I know there’s been a lot of jumping around with you and labels where do you stand now?40 Cal: ‘Cause I do my deals like that I never found a major label or somebody I can just stick with and do like a three album, five album deal with because I just have a lot of issues with how they’re promoting and marketing the record so I gotta get ill lawyers and work off one off deals.AllHipHop.com: You got anything else in the works we can expect?40 Cal: I got a movie coming out called Wonder Wall starring my dude from The Wire, we know him as Bodie [J.D. Williams], got a part in that. That’s coming out in another month or so and you know I’m always working out on new projects working on Broken Safety 3 – might drop that early next year.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Who Might Get Fired? Who Fought? Who May Quit?

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

JIMMY IOVINE FIRED???OK – I WAS WRONG….see the news!https://allhiphop.com/stories/news/archive/2008/07/23/20330202.aspx

No way!!!!!!!!

I cannot tell a lie, but I can tell a rumor. I heard that Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Records might be the dude that’s lead rap into some amazing and not so amazing places. But now I am hearing that Iovine has been let go or is about to be let go very, very soon. Why? Well, the rumor is strong, but I am hearing that this whole 50 Cent thing has really taken on a life of its own. Again, I have no facts, BUT…rumor has it, Iovine has to answer to his shareholders like any other corporate mogul. 50 Cent is one of his biggest acts yet there has been considerable discussion and inquiry from the shareholders on why his their marquee artist – 50 Cent – hasn’t performed so well two times in a row.

So, as the tale goes on…it feeds into what 50 Cent has proclaimed already: that Interscope sabotaged his last two efforts. On G-Unit’s in particular, there were a lot of complaints. Enough copies weren’t shipped. The promotion was weak. Who knows? Nevertheless, the supposed and presumed shareholders are like these efforts weren’t supported properly. Now, 50 Cent and Jimmy Iovine have shared words in the past. Or 50 Cent has been frank in how he feels about the Interscope boss. I heard that 50 Cent’s contract is about to be up for renegotiation and the rumored powers that be wanted to remove his leverage to negotiate. We shall see.

SHOT FIRED!!!!!!!!!

My boy Chris hit me with the news quick fast and in a hurry! He was at the event at SOB’s yesterday! Yo, SOB’s is a really good venue with some really good Hip-Hop. IT is not a spot you associate with violence or foolishness. Hot 97 had an event called “Who’s Next,” which was hosted by DJ Absolute. After a few opening acts, Max B was set to perform. Before he hit the stage, about 25 gang-affiliated dudes entered the club. A fight broke out instantly between entourages and shots were fired according to Chris. I don’t know if anyone was hit, or if Max was hit, because Chris bolted the F outta there quick. More on this as it develops.

DID JESSE JACKSON TAKE BARACK’S FATHER’S DAY MESSAGE TOO PERSONALLY?

What’s the real reason Jesse Jackson wants to “cut off Barack’s balls?” If you don’t know, the Jesse had a baby out of his marriage about nine years ago. That’s right. Jesse has some dirt under his nails. Anyway, Karin Stanford, the lady who has a 9 year daughter with Rev Jackson, think Jesse took Barack’s Father’s Day speech a bit too personal. See, Jesse and his wife have been married for 46 years or so….and the guilt has set in, she says. “We need fathers to recognize that responsibility doesn’t just end at conception. Somewhere in the back of his mind, Rev Jackson has to acknowledge that he has his own responsibility to his daughter.” Karin told The Enquirer, “My daughter Ashley, who is 9 years old, has very little contact with her siblings. And although Jesse takes care of her financially and has a relationship with Ashley, she is still not considered a part of that family. Ashley is not even on anyone’s Christmas card list!”

OUCH!

Karin didn’t stop there. She said, “She [her daughter Ashley] has met three of the five Jackson children, but it was by accident-we ran into them. All of the Jackson children have kids of their own and they are Ashely’s age. She is their aunt, but they have never met her. And to tell you the truth, even if Jesse took Ashley to see his family, it would have to be a chaperoned visit because I would literally be afraid to leave my baby alone with them. They are so dysfunctional, there is no telling what they would do or say to her.”

HUH? RAPPERS FIGHTING OVER ANGELA SIMMONS?

For any dude that gets down with the Simmons’ Sisters is a lucky person. They are cute, successful and a part of Hip-Hop royalty. OK, I hope I am getting this right. Her man is TK of Flysociety and they are reportedly the hottest young couple in LA. I heard TK even copped her a new BMW 760! Anyway, rumor has it Bugsy and TK got into a situation over a rumored “disrespectful incident.” I heard a “mini fight” went down over it. Bugsy is down with Lil Wayne, by the way. Anyway, Flysociety included Curren$y. TK used to supposedly be cool with Tyga and a bunch of other stuff. Whew…that was a lot. Stay tuned for more details…or not.

CONGRATS TO FAB!

Like I said yesterday, there is a rumor that Fabolous recently had a kid, but there is more intel to go with that. First, the baby isn’t THAT new. I am hearing he had the baby with the child’s mother in late March or early April. I heard Fab is really happy so that’s what’s good. I am sure if this rumor is true, a Barack speech would never offend him. My source on this one happens to have a lil’ thing for Lady Drama!

FAT JOE MADE IT, BUT NOT SEAN KINGSTON

Remember I told you that Fat Joe and Sean Kingson didn’t make it to Ghana? Well, JOE DID! Fat Joe went, but it was rumored that Sean Kington didn’t want to get a required shot to get into the country. I heard many people ini Ghana clowned him for being scared of needles, but enough of that. Fat Joe made it, but he paid a price. Rumor has it, Joe got food poisoning in the UK and had to miss the advertised date. But Joe scooped up Omarion (pause) and they rocked the show. I heard Joe said the following, “My people…I love you Ghana…I am sorry. I was sick… but I guess it is better late than never.’ He further explained that he couldn’t sleep the whole day because he was thinking about Ghana.”

Shout out to Joe!

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Check It! Spider Loc talks about his lil’ thingy with Lil Wayne when they were at the video shoot. Get that on illseed.com. LOL.

Suit? I heard Lil Flip has a new suit – lawsuit that is! You probably know rapper Bugsy (mentioned above) used to be down with Lil’ Flip. But I just heard some that Lil Flip is suing his former label Sony Records (and maybe Wayne) for stealing Bug from from his Clover imprint. I didn’t even know that Bugsy was signed and still don’t since this is a rumor!

LADY DRAMA COMES BACK TO EARTH!

Oh No She Didn’t…….Kelly Rowland talks out the side of her mouth!

Looks like Kelly does have a little bit of bite in her! Word on the street is she was bad mouthing former DC group mate Farrah! While talking to a UK radio outlet Kelz said Farrah was a nut! You’ve got to peep what she said word for word:

‘Michelle was so pretty and so sweet, we fell in love with her instantly. And we also had another one … Farah … who was a total nut. You didn’t hear me say it.”

She came into the group as well. She served her purpose. But stuff happens – and she wasn’t in the group for more than two months – that was a blessing.’

Damn Kelly I didn’t know you had it in you hun, but I must say the feistiness in you makes you that much more personable! Take it and run with it… and if you don’t I know Illseed will 😉

Tameeka’s ready to cash in more checks………

Looks like Usher’s wife is ready to expand her family again and revisit the pregnant life! The semi new bride told US Weekly this about her son and having more children:

“He’s like hyper baby — he’s crawling so fast!…He stands up, and he’s walking around the table … it’s amazing to watch him. I’ve never seen a baby crawl so fast! I call him Dash, like on the Incredibles!…We’re just scared because the baby knows how to get off the bed already, so our bed is like a gigantic crib because we have rails.”

On having more kids, she said:

“I’d love to have more, we just gotta make the time.”

Wow if Usher can sit through another sitting of that then more power to him! Not for nothing they are good at one thing and that’s making great offspring! Happy humping folks!

50 Cent may throw in the towel….. Yea Right

According to some sources on my end I hear 50 is contemplating getting out of the rap game! As I hear it 50 and his label aren’t seeing eye to eye resulting in 50 not wanting to continue his rap career! I also hear he’ll be putting more efforts into his other ventures such as acting, and he’s gone so far as to drop his stage name 50 Cent for his real name Curtis Jackson! Now I don’t know how valid this all may be… maybe 50 is just getting his grown man on for a minuet I mean can he breathe a little DAMN! I’ll keep you posted although I’m sure when 50 is ready to retire we ALL will know!

Lady Drama’s Food For Thought:

I hear Wendy told Omarosa to put that where? Back there.. from what happened on the show! SMH at Old-marosa thinking she could go on someone else’s show and get out of pocket what type of rocks is she smoking 😉 [Illseed note: LMAO at Drama riding for Wendy after being on the show!]

Speaking of Wendy thank you to everyone who checked out the show yesterday and showed me love, you guys are so sweet…. and that’s as mushy as I’ll get back to normal…..

I hear Chris Brown is telling Rihanna to cover up, sounds to me like he should be hiding in her closet instead of looking in there for something else for her to wear… kind of suspect Chris!

What’s going on with Free from 106 & Park? Talk about a ship wreck. See guys not all black don’t crack, be careful what you wish for!

Go hard or go home!

SORRRRRRRRY!!!!!

Sorrrrry! I’m about to do a Terrence J to AJ22 and wish her a belated happy birthday yesterday! I totally forgot and now she’s mad at me. L I feel terrible, but she reportedly had a great day despite the fact that I am wack. (Or maybe not) HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Here are the flowers! If you know her and didn’t say happy b-day..do it now!

More rumors later and shout to the  whole AHH / ILL COMMUNITY!!

YESTERDAY, WE LOVE YOU!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

Gunfire Erupts At Max B Concert

A concert featuring former Dipset member Max B. was halted when gunshots rang out at S.O.B’s in New York tonight (July 22). Witnesses told AllHipHop.com that an entourage of men entered the club just a few hours ago, during Max B.’s performance then shots were fired inside the club. “They came in 25 deep, a couple of songs were playing and a guy was in Max’s face in VIP making gestures,” one witness told AllHipHop.com. “One thing led to another and the whole crew bumrushed (ran up to) the security and VIP and everyone started fighting. That’s when a single shot was let off.”Patrons exited the club frantically and at press time, it was not clear if there were any injuries or fatalities.Approximately 30 police cars presently cover SOB’s with other officers on horseback. The Varick Street block in New York, where the popular club resides, has been blocked off. Sedrew Price: Rap Or Die 1.5 (Mixtape Review)

It can be tough getting heard when you’re not in a marquee Hip-Hop city. If you’re not from New York or LA, or more recently, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, or Houston, it’s just that much harder to break through the glass ceiling your geography may provide.

This task is even tougher when you are coming out of Las Vegas, a city known in Hip-Hop only for the murder of the one and only Tupac Shakur. Sedrew Price hopes to break through this barrier with his latest effort, Rap Or Die 1.5.  The mixtape isn’t the opus required to break a city through on its own, but, within lies some gems worth checking out.

What first draws you in isn’t the West Coast vibes, but the Southern inspiration he draws from. Beats representing some of the recent, like “Ima Do Me” ( Rocko’s “Ima Do Me”), to underground “Dreams” ( Little Brother’s “Dreams”), to timeless favorites “ I’m the F**kin Man” ( T.I’s “Rubberband Man”), can be found repping the bottom of the map.

From the selection, it is more than obvious that he took his time, picking beats that he loves, instead of the industry standards found on every mixtape from the cream of the crop to your neighborhood “truth in the booth”.

It is rare for anything to be without defect, and Rap Or Die 1.5 is by no means flawless. The largest of these flaws appears on “Shottas”. He has a tendency to project a sense of laziness between songs, usually along the second verse. He finishes the song strong, but that exact blemish makes itself known throughout the mixtape, as a weak verse somehow works its way into a few tracks (“ It’s A Celebration B######”, ”No Drama”, “We Go Hard”).

Las Vegas may have found a talent in Sedrew Price. Even with its defects, Rap Or Die 1.5 accomplishes the task of getting to know him through the music, giving a great introduction for those who haven’t had a chance to hear him. With this much effort put into a mixtape, one can only wonder what his debut endeavor may provide. It may not be such a gamble to bet on the kid.

Nas Joins MOVEON.org for Fox Protest

With over 600,000 petition signatures in hand, Hip-Hop star Nas will accompany members of MoveOn..org and ColorOfChange.org as they demand FOX News “ends its pattern of racist attacks against Black Americans including presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.”

The protest is scheduled for 2pm tomorrow (July 23) at FOX headquarters in Manhattan.

The demonstration has been triggered by what many perceive as thinly veiled racial attacks by the network and its panelists against the Democrat White House hopefuls.

The groups cite a list of recent questionable occurrences: an on-screen message referenced Michelle Obama as “Obama’s baby mama,” a commentator confusing “Obama” with “Osama” and joking about both being assassinated, and the Barack-Michelle fist bump being referred to as a “terrorist fist jab.”

In February, the network drew additional criticism after Bill O’Reilly debated on calling a “lynching party” for Michelle Obama.

The signatures were collected online last month by ColorOfChange.org, a grassroots organization the focuses on issues pertinent to the Black community.

Last year, the organization successfully stopped the Congressional Black Caucus Institute from hosting a presidential debate on FOX, which was cancelled after the major presidential candidates failed to attend.

Nas drew the ire of Bill O’Reilly last year after the Queensbridge MC was selected by students to perform at a free Virginia Tech concert.

On air, O’Reilly denounced Nas as a violent artist, citing the songs “Made You Look,” “Got Yourself a Gun,” and “Shoot Em Up” as proof.

Nas responded officially on his new album Untitled with the track “Sly Fox,” which attacks the network’s political integrity and coverage of race.

Due to the attention garnered by the song and the accompanying underground video, MoveOn.org and ColorOfChange.org felt the prominent lyricist would be a strong public figure for the demonstration.

James Rucker, the director of ColorOfChange.org, feels FOX’s treatment of the Obama’s points to a far bigger issue.

“When FOX talks about lynching the woman who may soon be our First Lady and then refers to this wife and mother as a ‘baby mama,’ they are maligning not only the Obamas, but Black women and Black people across this country,” Rucker explains. “We have over 600,000 signatures-more than half a million people, saying we won’t stand for FOX’s racism and hate-mongering.”

When asked to comment further on his reasons for joining the protest, Nas was brief. “FOX poisons the country with racist propaganda and tries to calls it news,” he stated.

Nas new album Untitled was released on July 15.

In three days, the album sold over 113, 000 copies and is expected to debut at  #1 on Billboard’s Top 200.

DJ Amaze: The Triple Threat

In the days where music is regional and one dimensional, there is a DJ who personifies the phrase “triple threat.”  He is the official DJ of Cancun for MTV and American Eagle, has a couple of radio shows including Sirus Satellite Radio’s Hot Jams 50’s FlashMash, and has hosted major events such as Funkmaster Flex Car Show.  With an album called Hood Elegance, DJ Amaze exercises his production skills and displays his lyrical ability to consciously speak about his environment, “Lean” to the swag of the South, and created hyped party breaks to make a girl shake her rump.  Transitioning into production and emceeing wasn’t meticulously planned, but he facilitated the growth with 15 years of experience rocking clubs and events all over the nation. In tracks like “The Big Butt Song” and “Boyz and Girlz,” you can listen to sounds reminiscent to Kanye West, Fatman Scoop, and even Dougie Fresh.   At the end of the day, this Philly born, Delaware bred DJ aspires to be respected for his work, to uplift his community with his “have fun” style of music, and calls for rappers to take responsibility in their music,.AllHipHop.com:  So how did you start as a DJ?DJ Amaze:  When I moved to Delaware, I got on a non-profit radio station in high school.  It was called 91.7 WMPH.  I had a little Friday night radio show there.  The show got popular because I was promoting it and local DJs were coming to do live sets.  With all the DJs coming in, some of them kind of took me under their wing showing me deejaying instead of actually on-air hosting. AllHipHop.com:  Some of the names you’re associated with are P. Diddy, Akon, and 50 Cent, have you worked with them on projects and events?DJ Amaze:   I worked with them live.  Down in Cancun I do spring break with MTV and American Eagle down in Cancun, Mexico.  A lot of times I open for them, host the show, and bring them out.  AllHipHop.com:  How did you ultimately get into production?  DJ Amaze:  I think for a lot of DJs it’s just a logical step.  Once you start remixing stuff, putting acapellas with other beats, that just opens up a whole other rabbit hole and eventually you’re going to want to put acapellas over your own beats and then I took it even further.  I wanted to make my own acapella with my own lyrics with my own beats.   It’s just a logical maturation of a DJ who is challenging himself to go beyond just playing records.  AllHipHop.com:  You come from the party scene.  Who were your influences to develop your style to what it is today?DJ Amaze:  Dougie Fresh, Fatman Scoop, Kanye West.  My style is more of a “have fun” type of appeal because I’m a DJ and my job as a DJ is to keep the party going, get people having a good time dancing, and all of that.  I put that into my music and a single comes out of it. AllHipHop.com:  How much of an influence was Fatman Scoop in your music?DJ Amaze:   He was very big because he was a pioneer.  What he does is party breaks:  “Get ya hands up! Get ya hands up!”  When I first started touching the mic, that’s who I was.  As a matter of fact, I got a deal with the same label as him initially which is AV8 Records.  They put out a remix of mine last year that did really well.  He was influential, but to me, I wanted to get beyond just the “Get ya hands up! Get ya hands up!” and make some real lyrics, but still get that same type of vibe.  I wanted to not do party breaks for DJs, but complete songs so it could be played on the radio and in the clubs more and not just be a transition tool for DJs to use in between songs, but to be an actual song.  AllHipHop.com:  Well in “Philly Heatwave” you speak about all of the violence that has occurred in Philly and you’re very conscious for a person of your background as a DJ.  What was the ultimate motivation for you to get behind the mic?DJ Amaze:  I’m removed from Philly, some what [but] I still feel the violence.  I still have people who I grew up with who are stuck on to violence, to death, to drugs, and to that whole lifestyle and don’t know any better.  I think that coming from an inner city you don’t have an outlet.  You don’t see that there’s a bigger picture out there because you see just to do your thing and that’s it.  You don’t get to see outside of that realm.  So for me, I question that if I stayed in Philly if I would have been the same way, maybe.  So that was kind of my tribute to Philadelphia and try to open my eyes to people who necessarily can’t really get away, but can buy a CD and see how things are and to reflect on that whole problem there.  And at the same time, it also a call for emcees that – I know it’s real poppin’ to be gangsta and all of that, but even the hardest gangsta got love for his mom, his sister, his family, so it’s a balance in life.  We are glorifying a lot of the negativity in Hip-Hop but not giving the conscious and the other side an opportunity to shine just as much.  So I’m just trying to do that.  AllHipHop.com:  “Lean” has been out for while now, hasn’t it?DJ Amaze:  It’s been out for a year and it’s been well received by the DJs, and the public, and the youth.  No matter if you can’t dance or not, you can lean! That’s why I think it’s had such a great response and I’m here from the east coast to the west coast and DJs been giving me feed back.  That’s another thing I have at my advantage.  I have a network of DJs that I know personally around the world, so I would hit them up and get feed back if they were playing my track where a lot of artists would have to go through some sort of promo team or some sort of middle man.  Because I’m a DJ, I just rely on my brotherhood to get it out and let me know how they feel about the record.AllHipHop.com:  Who are some of the DJs that are in your network?DJ Amaze:  Clinton Sparks, Clark Kent,  DJ Excel, The Mix Master, DJ Rated R, Big Ant, Tim Westwood in England, I mean the list goes on.AllHipHop.com:   Some of the biggest singles out right now on Hood Elegance are “Boyz and Girlz” and “The Big Butt Song.”   DJ Amaze:  I think that’s a party right there.  That’s kind of in my bag, so to speak.  That’s what I do—especially “The Big Butt Song.”  That’s what I’m all about.  If anyone comes to a party I’m all about shaking it! Not to the extent of Uncle Luke, but you got to say “shake it!” to get somebody to move.AllHipHop.com:  So being a DJ played an incredible role in creating those party songs on your album.DJ Amaze:   Of course! That’s definitely my experience because even before I thought about touching the mic, I was very vocal live in the party.  Doing my set on a Scoop type thing in my own way, I eventually tried it in a studio so that other DJs could use what I had and use it at their party and make their party even more live. AllHipHop.com:  When you do spin, are you known for spinning your own records?DJ Amaze:   Actually, people have come up to me and tell me I need spin my music more.  I play myself as I would play any other artist.  I’m not just going to inundate my crowd with my music and it’s just going to be a DJ Amaze show all night, because everybody didn’t come to hear that.  I do mix it in just like I mix in Jay or Wayne or anybody else, I just mix it in.  As a DJ, the idea is to keep the party going.  So that’s how I’m looking.  If I can throw a track in, then I do but I don’t force it. AllHipHop.com:  Was it a conscious decision to demonstrate an array of sound in Hood Elegance? The music ranges from booty shaking to R&B.DJ Amaze:  It’s not something that I sat down and said I had to have this, this, and this, but I did in my head say I want my album to be complete and that epitomizes what Hood Elegance is.  You can shake your butt and have a good time in the club, but you also have to have that grounding to know that you’re going to an event and you want to be elegant.  You have to dress a certain way and there’s a certain way things should go.  It comes from awareness of your surroundings of your environment in the form of “Philly Heatwave,”, have fun in the form of “The Big Butt Song,” “Boyz and Girlz,” and “Drop It Low,” but also have that R&B/soulful influence like my R&B singer D. Goode in “Twisted.”AllHipHop.com:  Now that you’re coming out as a rapper, are you getting booked for dates as an artist or a DJ?  DJ Amaze:  Both! People don’t know what to do with me right now! They’re confused!  Me and my manager try to talk them through it because – lets say it’s a live event.  They want me to come host and do my thing and do my set, but they also need a DJ so why not get that money too!  So I just tell them I can do it!  Awe man, you let me know what you need and I can provide it!  You know what I am capable of.AllHipHop.com:  As a DJ, producer, and a rapper, it’s safe to say you’re a triple threat.  DJ Amaze:  It’s safe to say that?AllHipHop.com:  It’s safe to say that now!DJ Amaze:  Well let’s say it then! [laughs]AllHipHop.com:  [Laughs] Where are you ultimately trying to take your music?DJ Amaze:  To gain respect from my peers, to continue to make good music for my fans and my supporters is really my short term goal and that’s what I got my sight set on right now—just to continue to make music that has impacted the community on several different levels:  the community on a positive conscious level, the community on a have fun and party level, the community on a respect level that people kind of respect and appreciate my body of work.

Screen Shot: The Rise of the Fighter – Soul Calibur IV, Tekken 6, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter II Turbo HD

After such a long drought of great fighters, it seems like the latter end of 2008 as well as the proceeding year of 2009 will yield a new line up of possible gaming classics.

With Capcom, Namco, and even Midway dropping gems from their most notable franchises, fighting fans everywhere will have something to keep them busy for hours on end.

Let’s see what some of the staple fighting game developers have in store.

Soul Calibur IV (July 29, 2008)

Every Ivy fanboy’s dream! The well-known series arrives with its first entry since the lackluster Wii exclusive Soul Calibur Legends. The battle is once again on between fighters from various parts of the globe in search of the elusive Soul Edge.

Series favorites such as Mitsurugi, Astaroth, and Ivy return, and newcomers Hilde, a female knight wielding a spear and short sword, and Agol, a new villain, are introduced. There are also numerous characters designed by guest artists, which has seemingly become a trademark for the series.

Star Wars fans will rejoice at the exclusive characters for each respective console release: Darth Vader for the PS3 port and Yoda on the 360. With new features including Critical Finish (the equivalent of Fatalities in Mortal Kombat) and the ability to chip away armor throughout the duration of the match, Namco Bandai has seemingly improved on an already effective formula.

Mortal Kombat vs. D.C. Universe (November 3, 2008)

This has to be one of the oddest combinations of characters that gamers have ever seen. Midway will be developing this clash of inked titans versus the classic “kombatants”. Will the matchup may be unlike any of the other “Vs.” games, the current build sports breath-taking graphics at classic locales, including a destroyed Metropolis and the “Hell” arena from previous MK entries.

The game will introduce “Free-fall Kombat”, where players can duel after being knocked off higher portions of the levels. This will be the first game in the MK series to bear an “M” rating, a shock to many devout fans of the series. Ed Boon and the rest of Midway have a lot to prove after MK: Armageddon. Let’s hope they do a great job.

Tekken 6 (TBA 2008)

T6 picks up right after the last King of the Iron Fist Tournament. This exclusive PS3 title is one of the most anticipated releases for the console. The game will sport 41 playable characters, the most of any game in the series. With six new characters, item attacks, completely revamped character animations and more, Tekken 6 will surely please die-hard fans of the series.

Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (TBA)

This update to the classic fighter essentially revamps every single piece of artwork from the original game. From the life bars to the characters themselves, SFIIT HDR recreated the classic characters from the ground up. Sporting sprites drawn by UDON Comics (authors of various Capcom series comic books), the game will run in most HD displays.

Fighting enthusiasts should already know the drill here in terms of characters and moves, but it will be refreshing to play the game in its updated format. The game will be offered on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 through their respective downloading services. It will also come with the original Street Fighter II Turbo for those nostalgic for a classic era of gaming.

Street Fighter IV (TBA)

Since Capcom dropped Street Fighter III: Third Strike, which is often regarded as one of the greatest fighting games of all time, fans have been eagerly anticipating their next release. After nearly 10 years, Street Fighter IV is finally being released. Capcom decided to step into the new generation and design their characters through cel-shading, much to the dismay of fans.

While SFIV doesn’t take a step back in the series, it does re-introduce the eight classic characters that we missed on the last release. The fighting is similar to SFII rather than SFIII. Hopefully Capcom will live up to their expectations with their release.

With this steady stream of games arriving in the coming months, this will hopefully help fans relive the glory days of the arcade right in their own living rooms. Be on the lookout for these games to add to your fighting game collection.
