(AllHipHop News) Maybach Music Group artist Torch spoke with AllHipHop.com about a number of subjects while recording for his upcoming EP titled Remember When.
The Bronx-bred rapper revealed the significance of the title, as well as his plans for an upcoming collaboration record with “The King of Brooklyn,” rapper Maino, on a track titled “What Up.”
“Its like when you first set out to be in the game, you just want to keep it real. The title’s like ‘remember those days.’ It’s just the authentic beginning and ground roots of the game, that’s what we’re trying to capture with this project,” Torch told AllHipHop.com about the EP’s concept.
Torch also discussed working with Maino on the “What Up” track, which he described as a hardcore Hip-Hop track.
“It’s one of those essence tracks, it takes you back to the Onyx ‘Throw Ya Guns,’ M.O.P ‘Ante Up,’ Busta Rhymes energy,” Torch explained. “We tried to capture that New York feel. Maino, he been repping hard for the city, so its only right I throw the big homie on there.”
Torch also touched on Rick Ross’s new Mastermind, which is expected to top the Billboard Top 200 chart this week, with over 160,000 units sold since the album’s release on March 4.
Torch said his favorite track on the album was “Nobody,” which is Rick Ross, French Montana and Diddy’s remake of The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic song “You’re Nobody (‘Til Somebody Kills You).”
“That Mastermind album’s hard as f**k. My personal favorite track on the joint is the ‘Nobody’ joint with French and Puff,” Torch told AllHipHop.com. “It’s the Biggie throwback beat. That’s my favorite joint, because I’m a huge Biggie fan. When I heard them flip that, soon as the beat came on, I was sold.”
