R&B/Hip-Hop group New Edition will be honored by The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) next month during the 21st Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on June 23 in Los Angeles, California. The invitation-only event will celebrate the group’s 25th year in existence. The group, which has released seven albums, is also known for a string of classic tracks including “Cool It Now,” “Candy Girl,” “Mr. Telephone Man,” “Can You Stand the Rain” and numerous others. The six members of the group will receive ASCAP’s Golden Note Award, which has been bestowed on the likes of Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty, LL Cool J, Quincy Jones, Jermaine Dupri and others. “Over the last 25 years, New Edition has experienced success on multiple levels to become true legends. The group has firmly left their mark on today’s music, and ASCAP is very proud to honor them,” said ASCAP President and Chairman Marilyn Bergman.
