While music fans await the arrival of Common’s forthcoming album Finding Forever, they can experience another side of the rapper as he continues his pursuit of big screen stardom with two new film roles.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Common has landed a role opposite Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie in the Universal Pictures feature Wanted.
Based on the Mark Millar graphic novel, Wanted centers on a white-collar worker (James McAvoy) who discovers he is the son of the most evil supervillain on Earth.
When his father is assassinated, he inherits the dead man’s powers and begins life among the other supervillains (Freeman, Jolie and Common) who secretly control the planet.
Common will portray the Gunsmith, an assassin with an unparalleled knowledge of firearms who is enlisted to help train and transform McAvoy’s character into the world’s most feared and powerful hit man.
In addition to Wanted, Common is currently in negotiations to become part of the Keanu Reeves drama The Night Watchman.
The David Ayer-directed feature, which also stars Forest Whitaker, finds the Chicago lyricist playing Coates, a heroin dealer from Belize who poses as an undercover police officer.
Based on an original idea by James Ellroy, The Night Watchman focuses on a disgraced cop who is determined to redeem himself upon discovering corruption inside the police department.
The film roles are the latest silver screen achievements for Common, who made his acting debut earlier this year in Smokin’ Aces.
The rapper will next be seen alongside Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in American Gangster.
