Grime legend Ghetts is calling out societal hypocrisy in his latest single, “Double Standards,” featuring British musician Sampha.
The East Londoner dropped the new single ahead of his highly anticipated upcoming album On Purpose, With Purpose, due later this month.
“Look around the world, all I see is double standards,” Ghetts raps before noting Facebook creator “Mark Zuckerburg covers up his cameras” and “Steve Jobs never let his kids use an iPad.”
The song sees him point to other contradictions in the music industry and society in general, including the injustices of the criminal justice system.
“A hero if I kill for my country, and a villain if I kill for my postcode,” he declares.
Last week, Ghetts was honored with the inaugural Pioneer Award at the U.K. MOBOs, which celebrates music of Black origin. He took to Instagram with a clip from his acceptance speech while thanking his supporters.
“This one’s for everyone whose ever felt overlooked and unappreciated,” he wrote in the caption. “Consistency is what returns the results we want in life.”
Ghetts is set to release the 18-track On Purpose, With Purpose on February 23. The album features a star-studded cast of U.K. artists, including Kano and Wretch 32, who feature on “Mt. Rushmore.”
