(AllHipHop News) Atlanta emcee Killer Mike is one of the most outspoken rap stars on the subject of police brutality and racial injustice. In recent years, the Run The Jewels member has appeared on CNN, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and The Tavis Smiley Show to discuss issues such as systemic racism.
In the wake of the police shooting that left 37-year-old Alton Sterling dead, Mike has turned his attention to the Democratic Party’s lack of response to the continuously growing number of African-Americans killed by law enforcement.
Mike attended a town hall meeting that was scheduled to discuss the Democrats’ national platform. The Bernie Sanders supporter used the opportunity to chastise the party for not doing more to help African-American voters, including providing better educational/vocational opportunities and confronting police violence.
“African-Americans have given a lot to the Democratic Party,” said Mike. “Blood, sweat and tears, and all too often nothing is given back but a pat on the back. The Democratic Party has abandoned African-American men.”
Mike’s comments also included a complaint often heard from many activists and concerned citizens – Why aren’t more “good” police officers speaking out against the “bad” police officers?
“You execute a human being who is a citizen of this country you should be prosecuted. Why isn’t the hell a police officer saying this cop is wrong?” Mike asked.
Video of Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg yelling at a cop that called into the station went viral this week. Rosenberg also took issue with police refusing to admit that some of their fellow officers do not do their jobs well.
