(AllHipHop News) While Drake and Tory Lanez continue to throw shots at each other, the two Toronto singer-rappers have both embraced including Reggae influences into their recent music.
Billboard spoke with Safaree Samuels, the descendant of Jamaicans, about Drake and Tory using sounds from the Caribbean.
“It’s like, I’m not Spanish, so I’m not gonna go and start doing reggaeton. It’s a bittersweet thing because these reggae and dancehall artists should be bigger than what they are,” said Safaree. “The dancehall artists, the people in Jamaica, just need to get more notoriety. [Reggae artists] should be doing features.”
He added, “And when [mainstream artists] shoot the video, they should shoot the video in Jamaica and have a Jamaican staff so that the people out there can make some money.”
Safaree recently released the Real Yard Vibes vol.1 project.
The Brooklyn-born performer is also one of the newest stars of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Hollywood.
