Shannon Sharpe Responds To Nicki Minaj Diss With Grovelling Apology

Shannon Sharpe responded to Nicki Minaj’s diss on the “Banned From NO” remix by clearing up the confusion behind his now-infamous “Nicki who?” remark during an episode of his Nightcap podcast.

The former NFL star turned media personality explained that the comment wasn’t aimed at the rapper but was actually a mix-up involving Republican politician Nikki Haley.

“I was talking about Nikki Haley,” Sharpe said. “So somebody said, ‘Nicki really wants to come on your podcast.’ I’m talking about Nikki Haley. I’m like, ‘Nicki who?'”

Minaj took the comment to heart and fired back on the track released Tuesday (June 11) with Lil Wayne, rapping, “‘I send a pic of Shannon, you ain’t that Sharpe.”

She later doubled down on social media, writing on X, “Yeah n#### you thought I forgot that ‘Nicki who’ s### you did? LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO j/k. Ochocinco almost caught a strizzy just by being around yo crazy tail self.”

Sharpe, realizing the misunderstanding had gone public, offered a direct apology to Minaj and extended an olive branch.

“Nicki, I was not trying to be disrespectful,” he explained. “Of course, I know who you are. I would be remiss to say that I thought you knew who I was or that you knew anything about ‘Club Shay Shay.’ I’m not that arrogant.”

He continued, “Nicki, I apologize. I meant no disrespect. You’ll always have an open invitation if you ever want to come sit down and have a conversation. Even if you just want to have a private conversation on the phone or something. It won’t go any further between you and I.”
