Jessie J revealed her early-stage breast cancer diagnosis and opened up about her upcoming hiatus in an upbeat Instagram video, telling supporters she plans to “disappear for a bit” following her next live show.
“I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” the British singer said in the clip posted Tuesday (June 3), “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early.'”
The 36-year-old revealed she received the diagnosis before releasing her single “No Secrets” in April and has quietly been undergoing medical tests since then. “I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period,” she said.
Jessie explained that going public was both a personal and emotional decision.
“I just wanted to be open and share it, one because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard,” she said. “I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.”
Jessie J plans to step away from the spotlight after her scheduled performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball on Saturday (June 15) to undergo surgery.
“It’s quite a dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked.

Jessie J Vows To Return With More Music
In an Instagram Story posted the same day, Jessie added, “Honestly, I need to process it and talk about it, and I need a hug. You have supported me through all my highs and lows, and I don’t want this to be any different.”
She also expressed compassion for others facing similar health battles. “It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar or even worse—that’s the bit that kills me.”
Despite the gravity of her diagnosis, Jessie kept her tone light and hopeful, promising, “I will come back with massive t### and more music.”

Messages of encouragement poured in from fellow artists, including Rita Ora, Katy Perry, Wretch 32 and Snoh Aalegra, following her announcement.
Jessie J will perform at Capital’s Summertime Ball on Saturday (June 15) before taking time off for treatment.
