(AllHipHop News) As summer time rolls around and the weather gets warmer, your favorite concerts and festivals are getting ready to hit a city near you.
For Hip-Hop fans that will be in the New York City area next month, the Downtown Festival is set to kick off May 10th and 11th on New York City’s Lower East Side.
California’s Black Hippy movement has been tapped to headline the festival as the crew of Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock will take the stage on Friday at 1 a.m.
Also joining the festival will be Odd Future (OFWGKTA) rapper Earl Sweatshirt, who is signed to Columbia records and Mr. Muthafuckin Exquire.
Festival organizers have prided themselves on making the festival big in sound, but small in venue size, as the festival looks to take over a host of intimate venues in NYC including but not limited to: Element, Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, Pianos, Cake Shop, Tammany Hall, and the Rockwood Music Hall.
Adding to the allure of the festival, concert organizers are giving away (2) VIP tickets to the festival for both nights via a Facebook contest.
Contestants looking to win tickets merely need to share information about the festival on their Facebook wall.
In addition to general admission tickets, the Downtown Festival also has “super fan” tickets which guarantee access to one venue and are not viable for any of the other festival locations.
For more information and for a chance to win concert tickets, share this Facebook page on your wall.
Back in February, Lil Wayne became the subject of intense scrutiny for a rap lyric that seemingly disrespected the memory of Emmett Till, a young boy that was murdered and mutilated in 1955 for whistling at a white woman. The rapper appeared on the song “Karate Chop” and proclaimed that he would beat up a woman’s private parts like Emmett Till. Since, the Till Family has attempted to get a response and apology. Their wish has been granted. The letter is below.
Dear Till Family:
As a recording artist, I have always been interested in word play. My lyrics often reference people, places and events in my music, as well as the music that I create for or alongside other artists.
It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.
RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Emmett Till’s Family Plans To Relentlessly Pursue Lil Wayne’s Sponsors
Moving forward, I will not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in my music, especially in an inappropriate manner. I fully support Epic Record’s decision to take down the unauthorized version of the song and to not include the reference in the version that went to retail. I will not be performing the lyrics that contain that reference live and have removed them from my catalogue.
I have tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy. As a business owner who employs several African-American employees and gives philanthropically to organizations that help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.
Best,
Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.
Lil Wayne

Well, here is the latest BS! Eminem is gonna be hitting the road very soon with a tour that will go all over North America and then the world, sources say. The tour will be the big brother to the album that is slated for release this year too. The dates on that Eminem album it vague at best. I’ve gotten later this month and I’ve gotten July 4th.
Hip-Hop Rumors: Eminem Coming To Heat Up July 4th?
So the rest of the rumor says that Em will be taking Tyler The Creator and Kendrick Lamar on the tour with him. This is interesting to me, because those two guys have big audiences themselves, but certainly not like Em. They would gain a lot of fans.
Hip-Hop Rumors: What’s Going On With Eminem, Big Sean, and Royce Da 5’9″?
Well, it is going to be a great summer for Hip-Hop.
Hip-Hop Rumors: Has Eminem Turned His Life Over To God?

(AllHipHop News) Last night, the new social network game Gig-It had a star-studded launch party at Capitale hosted by LaLa Anthony and DJ Khaled.
Nas, Elle Varner, Miguel, Fabolous, Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg’s and 2 Chainz were a few of the many performers from last night. Guests included Rick Ross(with cigar in hand on red carpet), Vado, Ne-Yo, Jamie Foxx, Par-City, Baiyu, Large Professor and tons of other celebrities.
Check below for a video recap of the festivities and a picture gallery from the red carpet:
(AllHipHop News) Tyler, The Creator’s latest commercial for Mountain Dew has some people up in arms. The 58-second ad features Tyler as “Felicia The Goat” appearing in a police line-up next to only black men.
An injured white women on crutches is shown as the victim. She is told by a police detective drinking a Mountain Dew to, “nail this little sucker.”
Before the women picks out her attacker, the viewer hears Felicia say, “Yeah it’s me. You should have given me some more. I’m nasty.”
The “Line-Up” commercial is an extension of a previous ad where Felicia attacks the same women in a restaurant. In that spot the women, as a waitress, calls Felicia “a nasty goat” before getting beat by the animal for not having more Mountain Dew. The “restaurant” commercial ends with Tyler saying, “You never gonna catch me.”
The phrase is also at that the close of the “line-up” ad after the injured women refuses to identify Felicia because she is constantly intimidated by the goat from behind a one-way glass. At one point Felicia says, “snitches get stitches, fool.”
The latest commercial has been criticized as racially insensitive and misogynistic. Social commentator Dr. Boyce Watkins called the ad “arguably the most racist commercial in history.”
Dr. Watkins posted an article on yourblackworld.net decrying the commercial. Writing in part:
Of course, in the world of Mountain Dew, every single suspect is black. Not just regular black people, but the kinds of ratchety negroes you might find in the middle of any hip-hop minstrel show: Gold teeth, “mean mugging,” sun glasses wearing, white-t sportin, hard core n*ggaz ready to “get into some ol gangsta sh*t.” Apparently, this is the kind of ad you put out if you want to appeal to the black male demographic.
Watkins goes on to chastise Mountain Dew for partnering with a rapper who he says “celebrates the sexual assaults of pregnant women” referring to Tyler’s song “Tron Cat” from the 2011 LP Goblin.
This situation is the most recent controversy over the last several months that have highlighted public scrutiny over what some see as offensive and degrading lyrics and images in Hip-Hop.
Mountain Dew is also facing calls from the family of Emmitt Till to drop rapper Lil Wayne as an endorsement partner because Wayne has yet to apologize for a line about the murdered teenager in Future’s “Karate Chop (Remix).”

Last month Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross was dropped by Reebok after protests over a line the Miami rapper delivered on “U.O.E.N.O.” that was seen as promoting date rape.

These incidents have sparked a debate within the Hip-Hop community about an artist’s right to free speech as it relates to a corporation’s choice to yield to pressure from outside groups upset with a rapper’s content. The ongoing discussion about rappers depictions of reality versus fiction expressed in their art is sure continue to rev up as well.
Representatives from Mountain Dew nor Odd Future have commented publicly on the new ad with Tyler, The Creator, but the “line-up” video has been pulled from Odd Future’s YouTube channel.

I’m hearing some rumor talk and its hurting my OG Heart. Word on the street is that the upcoming album by Slaughterhouse will be their last. My sources are pretty good on this one. Basically, they are saying that the guys are cool and all that, but they are all going to go down Solo Road. Plus, Joe Budden is a reality show star now anyway.
What do you think about it?
I just hope the album is epic!

(AllHipHop News) The four elements of Hip-Hop culture (rap music, DJing, B-Boying, and art) will all be on display this upcoming weekend at the second annual “MCA Day” in Brooklyn, New York. The event was created as a celebration of Beastie Boys founding member Adam “MCA” Yauch’s huge contributions to the culture.
DJ JS-1 , Pat P###, Operator EMC and DJ Skizz will be spinning Beastie Boys’ music, and members of the groundbreaking B-Boy crew the Dynamic Rockers will also be in attendance to entertain the crowd.
The centerpieces of “MCA Day” will be the various visual installations displayed throughout the space. Attendees will get to see rare photographs of the band by renown music/skateboard photographer Glen E. Friedman who shot MCA, Michael “Mike D” Diamond, and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz before the trio became superstars.
Pics by Sunny Bak, the photographer who captured the iconic image of the Beasties in front of the World’s Fair Globe, will also be a part of the exhibit.
Brooklyn artist and co-creator of the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music’s “Jam Awards” Michael “Mr Kaves” McLeer will show some of his work, and fans will have the opportunity to present their pieces as well.
The Beastie Boys fanthology project, Keep It On and On, will be showing artwork by fans from around the world, and for those people who will not be able to make it to “MCA Day,” Keep It On and On will run the images on their Facebook page throughout the day and provide free downloadable PDFs of the art.
The festivities will take place on the one year anniversary of the death of MCA. The Brooklyn bred emcee passed away from throat cancer on May 4, 2012.
“I felt this tremendous void. Like a lot of people the Beastie Boys became the soundtrack to my life. I started to realize there were a lot of people sharing and struggling with the same feelings. I wanted to do something, but I wasn’t sure what to do and how to do it,” said “MCA Day” founder Mike Kearney in a statement.
Eventually, Kearney used Facebook and Twitter to connect with other Beastie Boys fans, and the collective put together the first “MCA Day” last year in Union Square. The initial makeshift event drew artists from around the nation including Beastie Boy Ad-Rock.
With a full year under their belts the organizers of “MCA Day” 2012 are putting together an even bigger celebration for the legendary musician, video director, film producer, and humanitarian.
The second annual “MCA Day” will take place May 4 at the Littlefield art space in Brooklyn, New York from 11 AM – 4 PM. The event is free to the public.

HA! HA! Look at this kiddie pic of Cole World!
J. Cole has always impressed me as a good lil’ dude that was able to claw his way through the cesspool known as the music game and do well. In fact, he’s only getting better. But, his new mix tape “Truly Yours 2” just dropped and the people are eating it up like candy. Its so much like candy that Tia Mowry caught wind of a lyric that including her and her twin sis Tamara.
YEP. LOL!
You could feel the perspiration and blushing through Cole’s tweets.
Peep it.

The halfway mark for this season of SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX has officially arrived and out of 19 DJ’s from across the country who started the competition, only 9 “fighters” remain.
This week’s Miami-centric episode featured Mr. 2 Rings himself, DJ Irie of the Miami Heat, who helped guide the nine remaining DJ’s through the challenge of creating an “Ode to Miami.”
The challenge this week specifically asked the competitors to blend together all the local flavors of the South Florida city using genres like Miami Bass, Hip-Hop, and the many forms of both Club and Latin music.
Following an inspired group trip to some of the city’s local musical landmarks the competitors hit the practice room to craft their sets for the night’s competition. First to hit the stage was radio personality and host of SMIRNOFF’s MOTM, Amanda Seales, who was joined by judges DJ Mia Moretti, Grammy Award-winning producer and DJ Kid Capri, and “triple threat” Ben Maddahi.
DJ Dynamix, who kicked things off with an impressive set blending tracks like “Tootsie Roll” by the 69 Boyz, Pitbull’s “Culo,” Nicki Minaj’s “Pound the Alarm,” and “Miami” by LMFAO, was applauded by DJ Irie for crafting “a superior Miami set.”
He was followed by DJ Loczi, whose goal was to pay homage to the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) scene in Miami. His up-tempo set featured Flo Rida, Pitbull, Daft Punk and Technotronic among others.
DJ Tina T was next and was heavily criticized for her transitions, or lack thereof, by Ben Maddahi who said, “Appearance wise, you killed it but with the transitions, you failed.” Even Kid Capri scolded Tina T: “You could have done that set in Vegas.”
Chris Karns on the other hand blazed through tracks from Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias and The 69 Boyz before he was joined on stage briefly by Luther Campbell Jr., son of the legendary 2 Live Crew member Luther Campbell. He received a well-deserved standing ovation from the judges who praised Karns’ skills. “Now that’s how you DJ,” exclaimed Kid Capri. “You played a perfect set. You did your thing tonight.”
Following Karns was Los Angeles native DJ Jayceeoh who said early on in the episode that he was going to take some risks with his set and see how it went from there.
Although he blended and cut together a good number of tracks from the likes of J.T. Money, Drake, Lil Jon and Trick Daddy, the judges didn’t seem overly thrilled with what they had heard. “That was a little underwhelming,” said Ben Maddahi.
Even Irie had a few words for Jayceeoh; “I know your talented and technically sound but I cannot say that you captured Miami.” DJ Mia Moretti on the other hand said she loved it and she knows the crowd loved it too so there was definitely a difference of opinion between the three judges.
The episode began to wind down as the shows two Miami natives, DJ Brian Dawes and DJ Fly Guy, respectively hit the stage. While Dawes impressed the judges, Fly Guy fell short. “I feel like you let your city down tonight,” said judge Ben. “Nothing was on point, no one should have represented this city better than you,” professed Capri.
Incrediboi was next at bat and started right off with the latin tracks, one of which he broke down on an MPC machine, and then moved into tracks by Trick Daddy and Iconz. Guest judge DJ Irie applauded Incrediboi’s skills and ability to incorporate the genre of Bachata from the Dominican Republic into his frantic (in a good way) set. “Today you made me wish I was Spanish. That’s a game changer,” said Kid Capri.
“The Mixing Vixen” DJ Dimepiece closed out the episode with her set which featured LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” Luther Campbell’s “I Wanna Rock,” and “Shut Up” by Trick Daddy. Unfortunately for Dimepiece, who was almost eliminated in two previous episodes, the DJ’s still weren’t feeling her. “It wasn’t Miami,” said Kid Capri. Dimepiece, who consistently let the judges down this season eventually had her “record scratched” at the end of the episode and was sent home.
DJ Chris Karn won the episodes “Ode to Miami” challenge that saw the likes of DJ Loczi, DJ Flyguy and DJ Tina T all in the bottom yet ultimately safe this week and eager to step their game up for next weeks challenge which will find the remaining 8 DJ’s pairing up for what is being dubbed “the season’s biggest challenge.”
Check out our interview with DJ Jayceeoh below:
How does it feel to see yourself on TV competing for notoriety among things? Is it still surreal for you?
DJ Jayceeoh: It’s pretty crazy especially after going through the process of filming the show and knowing how things play out and seeing how things are edited and the packages they put together for TV. It is crazy to see myself on TV in this light and know that people all across the country are watching it play out.
What’s the relationship like between you and the other competitors? Is it straight competition or was there more of a more supportive vibe throughout the end of the season?
DJ Jayceeoh: It’s actually pretty supportive, surprisingly. Everyone is really cool with each other and there’s no real beef that goes on. There’s of course a couple little things between people but in general it’s a very good spirited and competitive vibe. Of course everyone is trying to support one another and me, I mean at the end of the day, I’m just trying to win. We’re all cool and everything but when it comes down to it, I’m trying to crush everyone.
Who do you think is the toughest judge or harshest critic on the show?
DJ Jayceeoh: It varies. Honestly it’s either Kid Capri or Ben Maddahi, but I’d probably say Ben is the harshest critic because he’s coming form more of an executive standpoint so I feel his whole mindset coming into it is a little different. I feel like my style just appeals to Kid Capri. From the jump I got on his good side early and just built on that throughout the season. At the same time, because I did so well on the first couple of episodes, I’m held to that higher level of performance and delivery so I have to be the best dude out every time I step up to play or else I’m not doing my job.
Aside from yourself, who has the most potential to be crowned “Master of the Mix” in your opinion?
DJ Jayceeoh: Chris Karnes is probably my biggest competition as far as technical abilities. I mean him and Incrediboi are both really dope but so far this season I’d say no ones real talents have been exposed ’cause we’ve only done a few challenges and as the series plays out those different aspects of peoples styles will be front and center.
What do you think about your set on the most recent episode about Miami?
DJ Jayceeoh: I definitely didn’t touch on the Latin aspect as much and I focused more on the Miami Bass and House aspects so I got criticized a little bit for that. I did a blend at the end of my set where I took Trick Daddy’s “Nann” joint and did a live blend of it over an instrumental I thought was dope but the judges didn’t feel the same way. Overall though I think the performance was good but it is what it is.
Check back next week for an episode recap and more with DJ Jayceeoh.
SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX Airs Tuesday’s at 12am on VH1.
YIKES! I feel like we’ve been here before. But, a Russian artist has gently, nicely accused Beyonce of stealing his art swag. The good people of Rhymes With Snitch tell the tale and the story goes a bit like this. Beyonce has apparently been using some pretty cool and revolutionary imagery on her Mrs. Carter Tour. The only thing is, this Russian saw the images and decided it was time to let it be known and he posted the pics to prove it.

I didn’t know Yelawolf was a God-fearing man!
He said “Don’t kick God out of Hip-Hop.” Yooooo….Yelawolf is dope. He said he saw back to back to back devil worshipping rap vids from Black people!
But, the dude that interviewed him is kinda wack. Like Satanism is cool if you are “real” about it.
I give Yelawolf props on keeping it on topic. But, I guess I wanna know what the deal is with these rappers that are reaping real Devil or fake Devil too.
Shout out to Yelawolf!
But, who are these Satanists?! TELL ME!
Remember when Eminem said, “I’m the devil!”? Listen to the song…it was ill!

(AllHipHop News) Frank Alexander is a part of one of the darkest periods in Hip-Hop history and now the man that once protected Tupac is dead.
Alexander was found dead in California and details remain sketchy. There have been early, non-official reports that he died from a self-inflicted gun wound.
On the record, Alexander said that he believed Suge Knight was involved in the death of Tupac.
In 2007, Alexander interviewed with AllHipHop.com and discussed his documentary called “Tupac Assasination.”
He did not implicate Suge in that interview but he did indicate that the night Pac died was abnormal.
“It was strange that I ended up being the only security for him and Suge. Normally Suge’s security was the head of the security firm. It was twenty three of us total, so there should have been more security,” Alexander told AllHipHop.com.
