Jay-Z Pulls Rocawear “Occupy All Streets” Shirts From Store

(AllHipHop News)
Jay-Z Rocawear Clothing company has removed its “Occupy All Streets” t-shirts from their website, after criticism surround the shirt, which was a take on “Occupy Wall Street.”

The t-shirts were apparently removed in response to critics who accused the rap mogul of trying to profit off of the “Occupy Wall Street” policital movement.

Prior to being showcased on the Internet, Jay-Z’s company released a statement stating that they would not be donating the proceeds of the T-shirts to the “Occupy Wall Street” movement.

“The ‘Occupy All Streets’ T shirt was created in support of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement,” a rep for Rocawear said in a statement. “Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”

That announcement caused discord between “Occupy Wall Street” supporters and Jay-Z, whom they claimed was profiting off of the movement and not sharing.

Opposition to the Rocawear t-shirts began when Jay-Z was seen on the Rocawear website advertising the shirt for sale (Friday November 7th).

At press time reps for Jay-Z or Rocawear have not made a comment.

  • Typical Rich Ni**a shyt…He works for wall street interests! He’s the 1%. But lets kick the Bullistics…(Nino Brown’s voice). Black Folk should not take part in the “Occupy” movement. Black folks around the world have been occupied for over 400 + years and now that white folks start losing homes and jobs we suppose to follow? GTFOH. Black folks now is the time to get together with like minded folks and create our own opportunities( and they are there ). The white man ( and Jew ) has been selling our culture back to us for years( Look at all the designer labels owned by ( Chinese, Japanese, Syrian Jew, Jew ).Oved apparel owns Akademiks, Mecca, Parish Nation, PrPs. Parigi Group ( related to Oved Family) Has the kids version of those brands. Haddad apparel has license for all Nike, Jordan, Converse and Levi Brands for kids.(also related to Oved family). Black folks this is the same in all of the industries we buy from.
    Wake Up!!!!!

Its not just white people losing jobs and homes though, you’re not seeing the big picture here. I don’t know where you’re from but in my city the effects of this economic crisis are noticeably visible. Hospitals are being shut down for lack of funding at a time when they’re needed most. The police department is severely understaffed and the crime rate is way up. People that have worked the same job for 20+ years are losing their jobs and pensions. My city is looking like Detroit right now and continually getting worse. Everybody needs to stand up cuz this is about rich versus poor, not black versus white.

  • TheBoxcarHobo

That’s some sucka sh*t. If they were truly supporting the cause then they WOULD be donating the profits. It should go without saying.

  • Jay-z is a Black man Hustling we could learn a lot from him just by seeing the movements he has made. Even though he may be the 1% but in the white mans structure he is the 99%. And He is only doing what other hustlers are doing seizing the moment. I challenge all black folks to do the same. I’m doing it and its easy!! They want to put the perception out there that there are no jobs but really the secret is you are your best employer. If you are creative or know someone who is partner up and hustle hard. The internet is the store front…..Peace

lol, I would’ve left the shirt on the market, if for no other reason than to piss people off…A lot of people seem to hate rich people for no reason. I understand if you know these people personally and you can vouch for they devious ways. I don’t know none of them personally, so y would I knock the hustle. People speaking in generalities and doing so with out the facts. Furthermore, y would I listen to someone who I don’t know, tell me about somebody that they don’t know…I can’t speak on this so called movement, because I refuse to give it the time of the day. We got bigger problems going on in our communities: killing, stealing, drugs, poverty, and a lack of education. if (n-words) want to protests, then OCCUPY ALL STREETS…

  • Bernie Hardknock

This a prime example of how this entire movement was allowed to be high jacked and why it failed… Without a strong, central leadership, anyone can come in and try to exploit your cause…

    • with a strong central leadership, 1 person can be bought out to railroad the movement. Nobody should be in charge!!!!!

Politicians are elected by the people and then lobbied to or bought out daily!!!

  • I like the T-Shirt. Everybody can’t make it to Wall Street but we can show our support by wearing the shirt and advertising the movement.
The shirt doesn’t even say Wall Street. It says occupy all streets.

Nobody is even in charge of this protest so who’s threat was it???? Jay-Z was poor and he came up from hard times.
IF NOT JAY-Z THEN WHO???? THAT WHITE KID WHO MADE A FORTUNE OFF THAT OBAMA RED, WHITE, AND BLUE PICTURE???

  • The tee is nice but what Jay-Z did is wrong, if the profits of these were meant to donate to the movement than why did he refused in the end, such a bad act i must say.
