Grammy winner John Legend recently released a new song and video entitled “Woke Up This Morning”, created for the civil rights documentary, “Soundtrack For A Revolution”.
Executive produced by Danny Glover, the film takes a look at how music shaped the American Civil Rights Movement, evolving from slave chants to the Black church and into inspirational freedom songs.
Beyond Legend’s contributions, “Soundtrack For A Revolution” features new freedom song performances by top artists Joss Stone, Wyclef Jean, and The Roots. Also included is historic archival footage of singer/activist Harry Belafonte, political activist Julian Bond, and U.S. Ambassador/former politician Andrew Young.
In 2009, “Soundtrack For A Revolution” made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. For more information, visit the official website here.
