(AllHipHop News) Slaughterhouse, the Shady Records lyrical quartet, have become international darlings through their years-long grind.
In a recent cover story for The Source magazine, the group, which is comprised of Royce Da 5′ 9″, Crooked I, Joe Budden, and Joell Ortiz, talked about being accepted outside of the underground circuit.
Said Crooked I, “I think Slaughterhouse fans across the globe, they have all that energy. They all have that love for real lyrics.”
“They’re coming to see four of the illest MCs, and they haven’t fun with us,” agreed Joell Ortiz. “It’s a big ol’ party. I don’t feel like we’re the performers and they’re the audience. I just feel like we’re all partying together.”
Crooked I also told The Source that he didn’t think the group would be possible, but they represent a change in Hip-Hop.
“If you would have came to us all four individually, before [Joe Budden's 2008 album] Halfway House, and asked us to be a group, I don’t know if it would be a group today… To me, this is the first group ever to assemble four dudes from four different cities – covering the map is a symbol of unification.”
But, that unification came from a lot of trials, Joe Budden said.
“I almost despise a lot of aspects that come along with this industry. All the red tape. All the politics,” Budden said. “Everything that is in between me and my direct talent and the fans. The industry will jade you. The a**hole I am today is the man that y’all created.”
Slaughterhouse covers the magazine, but there is also another cover that pays homage to the late Adam “MCA” Yauch and the Beastie Boys.
