Run-DMC

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Run-DMC Back Together

(AllHipHop News) Legendary Hip-Hop group Run-DMC is back together, sources have confirmed with AllHipHop.com today (July 6).

A source close to both camps revealed that a high-level meeting took place between Run and DMC.

While details of the reunited pair’s upcoming business deals were not revealed, plans are secure and in place for the future of Run-DMC.

“Run-DMC is definitely back together, and it’s a great day for Hip-Hop,” a source told AllHipHop.com.

Run-DMC retired almost ten years ago, in November 2002, shortly after the death of group member Jam Master Jay.

“We can’t perform anymore. Nobody wants to see Run-DMC without Jay,” Run said in 2002. “Run-DMC is officially retired. I cannot get out in front of my fans with a new DJ. Some rock bands can replace the drummer and I don’t know any other way but to be the three original members. That’s all I can say. We are retired.”

For over 10 years, the group has refused to perform together, even in April of 2009, when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

“Two turn tables and mic, that’s all it took to change the world,” Eminem said. “When I was a kid growing up in Detroit. I didn’t know what to be, then came Run-DMC. I had never heard or seen anything like them, but I knew I wanted to be them.”

The Hollis-Queens-based group was formed in late 1980 and is widely recognized as one of, if not the most influential Hip-Hop group of all time, influencing both the fashion and sound of the genre.

Both MTV and VH1 surveys have ranked the group #1 of all-time and they have a number of firsts under their belts.

Run-DMC is the first Hip-Hop group with gold, platinum and multi-platinum plaques, the first Hip-Hop group with a major endorsement deal (Adidas) and their also the first rappers to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

During their hiatus, both Run and DMC stayed extremely busy.

Reverend Run hit big on the television with the hit reality series “Run’s House,” while also performing sold-out concerts with Kid Rock.

DMC won an Emmy Award for his documentary “DMC: My Adoption Journey,” while mentoring children with The Garden of Dreams Foundation.

AllHipHop.com will keep you updated on details surrounding Run-DMC as they become available.

  • How are they going to perform when DMC’s voice is fucked up?

    • Heretic380

I forgot about that… Also I know jmj didnt rap but it just aint the same without him. He was more in tune with hiphop when he died than either of them. But im willing to see what they put together.

      • Pierre Elliott

WHAT YOU TRIED TO SAY WOULD MEAN SOMETHING
        IF 1. I WASNT A PRODUCER MYSELF.

        2. ALL THE INDUSTRY IS PUSH ONE SOUND SO IN ORDER
TO SELL, THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE STYLE UP.

THEN NY PRODUCER START SECOND GUESSING
THEMSELVES ON SONG PRODUCTION, ON TOP
OF NY PRODUCERS NOT EVOLVING, OR INCLUDING
RAPPERS WHO WERE NOT FROM NY.

        THATS HOW IT HAPPENED.

ME, I AM A PRODUCER. IN FACT, I AM NASTY.
I WILL SMASH ANY PRODUCER YOU KNOW OF….

        YOU KNOW WHY DOGS?

        CAUSE I MASTERED MY CRAFT.

AND AFTER WAITING A LONG TIME, IM ABOUT TO
        RELEASE MY DEBUT.

IL SHOW YOU WHAT A PERSON WITH TRUE TALENT
        CAN DO…
AND IF DOUBT ME, THEN GO HERE…

AND IM SURE YOU WILL COME BACK AND TRY TO DISS
BUT IT WONT MATTER, CAUSE I MAKE DUDES TURN OFF
        THEIR BEAT MACHINES AND LAPTOPS.

SO IT REALLY MAKES NO DIFFERENCE…

I GOT MUSIC, AND BEATS THAT WILL SMASH
        AND UPLIFT….

        AND SOON.

         IT WILL BE MY TIME

        LIKE I SAID: ==> myspace/insanexrelick

      • rep87

Humble yourself nothing wrong with being confident let your work speak for you, instead of boasting their are some good proven beat makers in the game, Dr Dre is considered but hell he sample his azz off he owe George Clinton big time during the 90s everything was sample from The King of  P funk , the South got some Big Time BEAT MAKERS !

      • thuglifefukdapolice

yall beats suck yall will never come back with them nas is like beats fool ny had it west had it biggie tried 2 bring yall back  but he died n yall was dead  suge got locked up n yall had a buzz but the south was on da coome up then we came up with krunk music  n the world liked it n took over then lil john stopped n that laffy taffy  came out  thats when south music sucked main stream south music but then u got real downn south music

      • rep87

Rap started out sampling from R&B  pioneers  ! The South beats are different ,New Orleans got they sound TEXAS has theirs, Fla , got they own ATL got a mixture , Memphis got theirs Carolinia got theirs

    • ccwaterbound32

during the 90’s east coast artist were using jazz and soul/funk break loops right? if you did your homework you would realize where that music ORIGINATED. Jazz music comes from New Orleans, Blues came from Mississippi it’s just full circle dude. Repetitive hooks songs celebrating promiscuity, as well as speaking of black morality and spiritualism, see i can tell you don’t know any better not that you would care because most likely your response to me will either be f*ck you, I don’t give a s*it about that, N*gga get the f*ck on with that trying to kick knowledge and s*it or whatever silly response you come with all im tryin to do is tell you the real so if you still wish to be ignorant towards this music at least have the common decency to properly say where this music came from….

      peace out

      • Pierre Elliott

THATS THE TRUTH BUT THERES A DIFFERENCE.
THOSE SOUTHERNERS WERE CREATORS, SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF
        SLAVES, NATIVE AMERICAN AND CREOLE.

THEY HAD CLASS AND THEY ALSO KNEW THAT THEY HAD JOB.
WHICH WAS TO UPLIFT AND CREATE DIALOG. ONE OF IMAGINATION.
        AND ONE OF DIGNITY.

THESE FOOLS ARE NOT WORTHY TO BE EVEN IN THE SAME SENTENCE.
I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE IM DISSING THE SOUTH, BUT YOU NEED TO
UNDERSTAND, THAT SO FAR, WHAT HAS THE SOUTH DONE OTHER THAN
GLAMORIZE SOUTHERN GHETTO SLAVE BULLSHIT, WHICH IS DEEPLY
ROOTED IN DANCING AND COVERED IN OBSCENE AMOUNTS GOLD ON..

AND IN THE SOUTH, IN THE 1800S THIS TYPE OF BLACK WAS TYPIFIED IN PICTURE, DRAWING AND AND THE WRITTEN WORD.

TAKE THE FACT OF CIVIL RIGHTS.  THE EMERGENCE OF HIP HOP.
ALSO THE BLACK FAMILY SOMEWHAT COMING TO SMALL PARTS OF
THE AMERICAN DREAM, WE TOTALLY HAVE LOST IT.

        REMEMBER INTELLIGENT RAP. GANGSTER RAP.
        WELL WHAT IS THE SOUTH??

I GOT MAD FAM DOWN SOUTH, BUT WHAT ARE THEY SAYING??
        WHATS THE OVER ALL MESSAGE???

        WHAT???!! MORE DANCING??

        MORE TRAPPING??

HOW BOUT WE TSALK ABOUT HOW ALL DOWN SOUTH BEAT
PATTERNS, AND SOUNDS MOSTLY COPY OLD SCHOOL EARLY 80S
        NY 808 RECORDS.

LETS SEE THEY COPIED OR STOLE FROM NYC HIP HOP SUCH AS…

        THE BEASTIES BOYS.

        RUN-DMC

        STEADY B

        DJ SMURF

THERES ONLY ONE GROUP OF SOUTHERN MC, AND PRODUCERS
WHO ARE EVEN WORTHY OF SOUCH A TITLE:

        OUTKAST

        SCARFACE

        DJ SCREW

MC SHY D  early pioneers of southern hip hop

        GUCCI CREW

        BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?

        ALL YOU GUYS SAY THIS:

THEM OLD DUDES IS WASHED UP.

HOW CAN THEY BE WASHED UP WHEN NOT ONE OF THEM CAN OUT RHYME OR HAVE AS MANY CLASSICS AS THESE SO CALLED OLD
        ARTISTS..

AND THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE NOT OUT NOW, IS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT ALL THIS STUPID NGGER SWILL SELLS.

BECAUSE THEY KNOW YOU DONT WANT TO BE ANYTHING..
YOU DONT WANT TO LEARN ANYTHING…

YOU JUST WANT TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE…..

THEY JUST WANT YOU TO BE YOU…

        STUPID, WILLING TO BUY ANYTHING.

AND THEY HOPE YOU EAT ALL THE RIBS N CHICKEN YOU CAN SUCK DOWN YOUR GUT………..

THERES AWHOLE GROUP OF BLACK PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST THAT…
UPWARDLY MOBILE PEOPLE WITH GOALS AND DREAMS….

        ********

THEN ON THE OTHER SIDE, WE GOT NGGERS. PEOPLE WHO DONT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING. THEY DONT WANT TO LEARN. AND THEY LISTEN TO WHATEVER MASTER TELLS THEM TO….

***THATS WHAT YOU NEW “RAP” CATS ARE LOOKING LIKE…
MY GEN IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE ABOUT HIP HOP….
THATS WHY THEY HAD TO CHANGE UP THE FLOW, CAUSE WE WASNT BREAKING… WE WERE THE RIOTS IN 92, 93..

THEY ALREADY KNOW YOU WONT FIGHT BACK.
        YOU WONT QUESTION ANYTHING…..

YOU LISTEN TO WHITE CONTROLLED  MADE RAP MUSIC.
        ********************************************************************************

Not sure how to feel about this.  I’ve seen these cats multiple times over the years.  FreshFest.  Raising Hell.  Tougher Than Leather.  RunDMC/Beasties-TogetherForever.  DerbyEve in Louisville w/ Jay performing a DJ set afterwards.  Jay gave me a hi-five at one point.  To see them w/o Jay may be a little too hard.  If you take the deaths of Pac, Biggie and Kurt Cobain and wrapped them into one emotional response, that’s what it felt like for me when we lost Jay.  Hopefully the Rev & D. can do it right w/o Jay behind them.

      SMH..

  • Pierre Elliott

THE SOUTH HAS NO ORIGINALITY WHEN IT COMES TO HIP HOP.
YOU ARE NOT LYRICISTS. ON 3K, AND BIG BOI.
AND SCARFACE.******************* PEOPLE ARE GETTING FED UP WITH IT. BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE WAKING UP TO THE FACT THAT: THIS MUSIC SUCKS AND SOUNDS THE SAME!!!

    • thuglifefukdapolice

      • Pierre Elliott

Hey and you know what? You are 100% right. And you have to look at CERTAIN
southern artists who were there and making good music. But when they didnt fit into this ass monkey mode, they got dropped.
And when I say this….Dont get it wrong. I got family in the south. I got respect.

Its just, the dummies, the ones that are making the records and speaking on the behalf of the south, are giving them a bad name.

Look at 3stacks on the remix of Work it out.

He in fact dissed the dude in his own song, and spoke of the wack southern BS that is being put out in the air.

But no one said anything cause to them, they just played it off.
And kept dancing like a good monkey, never asking the question of why?

Cause Andre knows, that his southern bretheren are bringing disgrace
to the south, through the form of Minstrel like songs and performances.

And the active involvement of Media outlets to foster this image.

Now after the riots. NWA. Public Enemy. Schooly D
Me being raised in an almost ALL WHITE town.

        I know whats going on.

      • thuglifefukdapolice

u are correct but its  the beat if we use they beats n put lyrics n messages on them we could bring hip hop back use dumbb azz waka flaka beats wit lyrics n messages on them hip hop will come back but until then ppl gonna support those artist becauselook at ross he wack  but his beats so good u wanna listen feel me

      • Pierre Elliott

Exactly. Thats why we gotta get dudes in here that can spit some real lyrics. And trust me, those beats ARE NOT the dopest.  To me they are OK.

      • thuglifefukdapolice

TO U BUT WHEN U HEAR THE RAPPER FUTURE U SAY HE WACK BUT WHEN THE BEATS PLAY U GONNA NOD UR HEAD BEATS ATTRACT PPL MORE THAN LYRICS NOW SO U GOTTA GET THEY EAR THEN SPIT LYRICS LOOK AT NY RAPPERS LYRICAL BUT BEATS BE WACK  CHORUSES BE WACK LYRICS HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF PUNCHLINES WIT NO MAIN TOPIC ITS LIKE U LISTEN TO A BATTLE RAP 2 A SONG Y U THINK BIGGIE NAS JAY GOT SUPPORT HELL EVEN MAINO

      • Pierre Elliott

I dont really support any of the current NY rappers cause they are mostly wack. Cause they are too busy copying the south in trying to get sales instead of being true to themselves….

Yo its not just the south thats kinda wack to me
                     EVERYONE IS WACK.
Thats why most people are listening to old joints to feel something…

      • B. Graham

Get off that everyone out now sucks *ish!  Nas is still a mic god!  Immortal Technique is bringing real intelligence to the game.  Wiz is killin’ it live and on his recorded shit.  Murs is true hip hop.  Brotha Ali got that ol’ skool vibe w/ tight beats and nice at the lyrics.  Tyler and OF are flipping the finger to everyone and doing what they feel.  Danger Mouse is quite possibly the best producer out that’s pushing the envelope of production.  9th Wonder has some of the best produced material of anyone working.  MF DOOM-forget about it!  That dude is ridiculous.

      • Pierre Elliott

Oh Im hip to all those artists. I love most of them, but even then they are stuck. I got Murs 9th Edition. I still got love for Nas, but to me the most important thing that has dropped off, is the music it self. All the music these people rhyme on is wack or ok. I dont know what happened to us…. Thats why I am a producer.
And I am focused on getting rid of all this wackness..

        Myspace/insanexrelick

      • Pierre Elliott

but even to me, 9th has gotten wack…People have too many distractions, and the quality has suffered…

what kills me is if your an elder why would you bash these dudes instead of pass off the wisdom you’ve gained? and dude i hate to say it but when is New York going to come back? run dmc are the originators can’t nobody take that away from them but my question is WHO is making an effort on the east coast to put out original material? WHO? s*it you can’t be mad at the south in general be mad at them clowns in Atlanta Georgia, because that’s where majority of them wack azz artist come from…. ever hear of Big Krit? ever hear of Dee 1? ever hear of J cole? ever hear of Z-Ro? or Bun B? i respect that you want it to go down too but you got to set the example as an elder cuz all that grumpy old man s*it aint goin fly dude and you just make yourself look like an ass… just saying…

      • Pierre Elliott

Il be honest, I heard of Z-ro and Kritt i def heard of Bun B.  And even then thats not what im talking about. Bun B to me was/is part of the problem.
Thats why he died before he could reap his rewards. Its about saying something now… Weather its the south, the west, or the east.

Im not a grumpy old man, I just look around me dogs, and I see people more and more that I dont relate to.

All this pimp talk is dead. All this dumb talk is dead.

ITS ABOUT STEPPING UP AND SPEAKING ABOUT WHATS WRONG RIGHT
NOW, CAUSE RIGHT NOW BLACK PEOPLES MUSIC DONT STAND FOR NOTHING…..     And dogs when you sit there and say to someone, you a grump old man.. You sound like a stupid baby kid, who doesnt know anything.

Look at the reasons of why we mad at the music…..

THE SOUTH IS GETTING ITS CHANCE IN THE SPOTLIGHT
        AND YOU KNOW WHAT?

        THEY ARE BLOWING IT…******BIG TIME********

      • atle fjeldstad

You`re talking about Pimp C! And he wasn`t a part of the problem. Listen to shattered dreams,  Pimp tried to get people to talk about the real.

      • Pierre Elliott

Yeah but pimp C was about PIMPING. Bun B was dropping knowledge….

      • Pierre Elliott

and I can say what im saying and it have validity is because I am a producer.
I create, you are just a consumer.   Think about it.

It’s funny who writes history and how it’s written.  Run DMC was a group that was similar to any commercial rap group today (there were other groups out besides them, but you don’t know them). In fact Run DMC was being dissed as “not real” by Schoolly D (PSK) and the other “gangster/underground” rappers of their time, who started to use the N-word and describe street life, but many of you young cats don’t know that, and yet you see them as the pillars and representatives of “true Hip-Hop”.  Don’t get me wrong Run DMC is still a good group, but it really is interesting, if you ask the older street heads they would say otherwise. As for me, I respect them tremendously, but it is just fascinating to see the newer generation’s opinion of them.

    • CaliTransplant

I know it’s your opinion, homes, so I don’t mean to jump down your throat.

      But…?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? What?

You ask me and anybody I know my age and they will tell you that Run DMC was, is and will always be..the shit…

They made history! Were they the first rap group ever? No, of course not. There were other rap groups out at the time. But they broke records, smashed down barriers and basically introduced America to hip hop music! The whole world was watching Run DMC..

Ughhh! The reason Run DMC is similar to any commercial group of today is because every group out today still fashions their style after theirs!!! Note: there still is not a group that can touch what these dudes did, period.

Plus, what Schooly D had to say or thought was irrevelant at the time because no one had heard of homes outside of Philly/New York. Their style WAS the real style then. Schooly was one of the first cats to break out with a ‘gangsta’ style jam, but not THE first! It’s a matter of opinion on this point.

He wasn’t poppin’ in ’83, but Run DMC was way out on the West Coast with ‘Hard Times’ by then.

Melle Mel was already talking about beat downs years before anyone had heard of home; 1981 and shit.

Just to let you know. I’m not all aggie just that I remember those times. And you are wrong. For anyone to simply relegate them to a ‘good group’ is like saying LL Cool J is just ok. Or, Big Daddy Kane was alright. These dudes changed hip hop.

      Shell Toe Adidas, anyone?

      • jsj23

Ok, I can see I got myself into something here.  No problem. I am not taking anything away from Run DMC, no one can! They are already in the history books, but I think their role was to bring the SOUND of Hip Hop to a larger audience and that was it.  They didn’t talk and say the things I heard my neighbors say.  There may be reasons for that (perhaps they were told not to, by record execs.).  I compared them to newer groups because they achieved commercial success (Walk this Way and other songs with rock/guitar riffs). Many of the newer acts, however, are being labeled as fake or trash. When Run DMC did the same thing, and are being called Gods of Hip Hop. Who owns Adidas? (Walt Disney used Micky Mouse, Adidas used Run DMC) that is all I am saying.  Their shows were great, and again they did a lot for hip hop, but take away the shows, and just play the vinyl, to me they sound a little watered down, the rawness of Hip Hop isn’t their anymore.  Again this is just my opinion. Even to this day I prefer groups like Newcleus, Sugarhill Gang and some lesser known rap groups over Run DMC. Again, my opinion, and I am not the only one who feels this way!

      • HipHopStalker

Your trippin man. Run Dmc being commercial back then has NOTHING to do with commercial rap today. They needed to do what they did to put hip hop to the mainstream and help mc’s get real paper. There were none at the time that’s why there all saying they had no royalties and don’t own there own masters. Run Dmc broke down so many doors for the culture it’s hard to belive your not 16-25 year old. Now today mainstream hip  hop is just coons with money throwing it around, disrespecting women while pouring liquor on them, having more tatt’s than they do dollars in there accounts and rack up multiple arrest’s in an attempt to say there keeping it real. Not to mention following the skinny jean, wearing pink, using a million other rappers on there songs to get airplay. Run Dmc was two mc’s and a dj. Hard hitting beats,no singers on the hooks,no dancers in the videos,no cameos by whoever is big for the time being,no high profile producers to put on the front of the package on the cd. Next you’ll say them endorsing addidas is the same for our culture as romoting liquor right ? better yet liquor companies you don’t even own but big it up in every song right ? for you to compare RUN DMC a group that helped shape hip hop music and are the role models to following great mc’s such as Nas,Jay-Z,Ice Cube,A tribe called quest,Krs-One,Rakim,Wu tang Clan,Eminem, etc….. Please tell me your really a teenageer because with these thoughts homie you must be stuck in 1985. Oh yeah using the N word doesn’t make you more street. Even white boys in the suburbs use that word today. You prefer groups like sugar hill gang ? really lol they were more commercial than run dmc with there disco sound and two hits under there belt. stealing rhymes from grandmaster Caz lol c’mon homie did Run,D or Jay take your girl back in the day ?

    • VentKing11

What? Mannnnn, I’m original old school and you’re tripping.  EVERYONE gave it up to Run-DMC back in the day so stop trying to school folks with that nonsense.  Every “older” streethead I know have these cats as wayyyyyyyy more than just another commercial rap group.  They all have them down, and rightfully so, as THE greatest rap group of ALL TIME. Now I expect this blasphemous playahating rhetoric from some newer heads that missed out on that ‘golden age” of hip-hop, but you’re totally full of ish claiming Schoolly D and “other” gangster/underground” rappers of that time dissed them. What other rappers? And just because they ignorantly used the “N” word gives their opinion merit enough to alter how history should be written?  You should get that hell slapped outta you for even saying that. They were rap back in their day, they kicked barriers down that NO other group did, they were the only cats that EVERY other group called the undisputed “Kings” of this hip-hop game with no question. No group was or has been since been praised in that manner and never will. Your whole post is full of shit.

      • jsj23

No need to talk about slapping anyone OK! Let’s keep it civil! My point about the N-word was about pushing the boundaries, saying things that were said in the streets and maybe the industry attempted to keep out of the ears of suburbia. That’s all. Simply do a little research and you will see what Schoolly D and other rappers had to say about Run DMC during that time. If you were in the clubs you would know.

      • KingsCountyCrooklyn

what schoolly D and them was saying back then was just to generate a buzz by going up against the best. we all know in this highly competitive field of music to get publicity you have to go up against the top dogs of the time (Run-DMC)

      • real talk homie, dude needs his ass whooped for running his mouth so recklessly, he had me heated with that nonsense

    • churchboy2

I have been down with the kings since first hearing “Rock Box” in @ ’82, and all I can say is that you are wrong on so many levels.

The fact that you are discrediting the most influential groups (in any genre) because one of their contemporaries (who was far less influential – and successful) thought that they weren’t ‘street enough’ is just plain stupid.

      • Michael Barnes

        preach on i agree

    • KingsCountyCrooklyn

i disagree with the majority of your statement, but wanted to point out what you said about today’s rap groups being commercial like Run-DMC, i made this statement in another article that the rap game is going full circle. some older cats from the 90s are getting at the youth of today about not being lyrical on the mic but in their defense i feel they are taking it back to the essence of 80s party hip hop. on the flip side gangster music became commercial because record labels would only sign & push artist that came with that rough street vibe in the late 90s.

      • Michael Barnes

thats a joke 75 % of the artist today are garbage theres no lyrical hottness

    • wrong! for you to compare Run Dmc to commercial acts of today is ridiculous. there was a couple groups that tried to diss them in the 80’s like the gucci crew etc. but those groups were wack. I was there  and your opinion of how it was is distorted. The difference between them and commercial groups of today is quality, which is lacking today.

    • jsj23

What is this?  I go out for a few hours, come back and see all these replies, come on guys seriously? Look, the sun will still come out tomorrow, Blacks will still have a 14% unemployment rate, and my opinion (along with a few others) and your’s about Run DMC will not change.  Stop romanticizing the past!  Things were not all that much different and better in the past!.  Not everyone was a Run DMC fan! Go out and party have fun! Give it a rest. Have a nice weekend PEACE!

    • 4entertainmentpurposesonly

No disrespect to your opinion, also, RUN DMC isn’t in my top-five, however, if RUN DMC  didn’t serve as “pillars” for the Hip Hop community… who did (at that time)? Who do you think should’ve had RUN DMC’s shine and why?  I’ve listened to Schooly D, UTFO, The Fat Boys, Spoonie G, Kurtis Blow, Africa Bambatta (Zulu Nation), The Treacherous Three, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, Lady D, Roxxanne Shante….all of them were in that era… unfortunately for those Rappers, they were not doing what RUN DMC was doing at that time.

  • Mike Davis

Good look for hip-hop! I’ve had the privilege to see these cats perform 9 times and must say they put on one of the best live shows ever next to Public Enemy. The only DJ who could fill in for J is DJ Scratch hands down. DWTK

WHEN HIP HOP STARTED, BLACK PEOPLE AND REC EXECS WOULD NOT PLAY THE RECORDS….THE ONLY TIME YOU HEARD THE RECORDS WERE WHEN YOUR CUZ CAME TO YOUR HOUSE FROM NYC WITH A TAPE.   UNDERSTAND FOOLS************

WILLING TO SIGN OVER YOUR SOUL…

  • i would love to hear some shit like the first 3 records, i didnt really like “down with the king” or “back from hell” cuz it sounded like they were trying to sound current at that time, i really hope they just do what THEY do. Old school 808 beats with scratching, i could see DJ Hurricane as their DJ but nobody can replace Jay. Oh and no guest appearances! i swear, i will lose my shit if kid rock or Sarah Mclachlan or anybody  “collab’s” with them and they dont need beats from whoever the hottest producer is right now. just my opinion

  • Unless Run lost weight and they come with something strong and not light, airy pop, then I doubt if they could have an audience – younger or older.

    • blackie_chan

Doubt without intellect = stupid comment

    I have to agree.

I’d pay top dolla to see Run & DMC perform “Sucka Emcees”, “My Adidas”, and “Peter Piper”.

  • Big Ice Bastardman ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

It sounded like they had a really good reason to retire in the first place.

    • 4entertainmentpurposesonly

RUN DMC retired because one of their group members was killed, also because it was their time to do so. Unlike other legendary groups that continue to perform (make money touring) with non-original group members…RUN DMC decided not to do that.  All Hip-Hop/Rap fans need to know the contribution RUN-DMC made for HIP HOP… regardless if you like their music or not. RUN DMC is your favorite Rapper’s, favorite Rapper(s). This is 4entertainmentpurposesonly-

  • MrTroyMercy

Seriously , unless they have a Jam Master Jay Hologram and it won’t work but I still support these cats reguardless .

  • The comments on RUN DMC (RIP) & JMJ on being commercial is straight bogus.  I know because I know RUN…I was in there video…had a freestyle session with Run…I went to Fresh Fest 2 back in 84’…and I’m from Queens, NY.  Anyone that wasn’t in the place to be don’t know anything, point blank period.  However they did reach commercial success because at the time the music industry and the media was only in favor of rock music.

Around that time (early late 70’s – early 80’s) MTV refused to play Hip-Hop or Rap claiming that it was a fad…because it was predominantly used by the minorities.  MTV was playing Rapture by Blondie (with Blondie rapping on the song even though she’s not a rapper) all day but refused to play any Hip Hop or rap.  But Russell Simmons and Rick Ruben pushed the envelope by fusing Hip-Hop and Rock (e.g. genius idea to get in the door)…that’s why DMC said “I’m the King of Rock…there is none higher”…that was a jab at the naysayers (i.e. MTV, etc.).

Just because RUN DMC & JMJ used rock music in there songs, doesn’t mean they were commercial or pop in origin, because Hip Hop is a chameleon of all forms of music.  And the fact that RUN DMC is making a return is a monumental day in Hip Hop because they cater to the older generation that respect the craft (at a time when everyone in the game didn’t sound the same).  Not trying to diss the younger generation but you can’t say you have love for the craft if you don’t pay homage or respect the ones that paved the way for you to get in and be a part of this culture called Hip Hop (or Rap).  Ya’ll could learn a whole lot if you just become more open-minded and understand that art is meant to be different.

The word artist comes from the word “Art”….which is an expression of the artist.  Painters are artist, Sculptors are artist, etc….so imagine going to a museum and every artist’s artwork looked the same.  Well that’s what this generation of music is…cut & paste music…you all sound the same.  The same lyrical content (selling drugs, Imma boss, I got so much money = Yes Sir/Mantan/Bafoonary), and the same music (every producer from this generation are using the same hi hats, same kicks, the same snares, and the same drumrolls).  And then you wonder why the music industry are declining in sales…because they’re not focusing on the older demographic…our generation are used to buying albums, not singles, and we own houses, cars, businesses, etc.
