TDE President Says Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul & SZA Projects May Drop This Year

(AllHipHop News) Top Dawg Entertainment is arguably the biggest crew in Hip Hop right now. Kendrick Lamar is still picking up award nominations for his heralded 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d. city, fellow Black Hippy members Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock have continued to spit stand out verses, and newcomers Isaiah Rashad and SZA are making waves. According to TDE’s president Terrence “Punch” Henderson the West Coast based label may not been done in 2013 yet.

“You’re definitely gonna see Schoolboy [Q]’s album. That’s coming soon. We’re probably about 90% done with it,” Punch told XXL. “You might see something from Ab-Soul this year. We might drop a project on him. Jay Rock is still cooking. SZA, she might have a project this year, too. That’s about it until the end of the year.”

Punch also took the time share his involvement on what has easily become the most talked about rap verse in years – Kendrick’s “Control.” Punch says he spoke to K. Dot about how the competitive nature of Hip Hop was missing and that the game was waiting on another DMX or 50 Cent to push it in another direction.

“I was just talking about how everything is so friendly right now; everybody’s hugging and friends and on each other’s records. Like, where is the competition?” said Punch. “I told him, ‘Watch: the first dude to do something to change it, that’s going to shift the game back because everything is one way.”

tde is the best new camp out right now!!! all dope rappers with very different styles. real hip hop 2 the fullest!!!

  • @Real_SirJamie

Haven’t heard a wack album from this camp yet. I missed “Setbacks”, and “Follow Me Home” but “Control System”, Habits And Contradictions”, “Overly Dedicated”, and “#Section80” are some of the best hip hop albums of this decade (starting from 2010). You can tell this label takes pride in their work. Can’t wait to hear more.

      Yes we are.

That’s what I have been saying the new school need a new 50… But Kendrick is not that guy though… Kendrick = Nas Lyricism mixed with 50 bullying strategy… and IMO that’s the recipe to be the King… Also Consistency is a major key…
(speaking of “Recipe” y’all need to hear the track he did with Dr Dre I am saying Kendrick planned this control thing a long time ago… Check these lyrics out …
“Ribbon in the sky on the radio cause Stevie know I control
    Let it breath
I control, California living til I am old
You want to be one, to peak on the chart
So the peons can be gone and pee on their hearts”)
Anyway… IMO School Boy Q is that guy to me he got that 50 cent/DMX shit talking… and he can spit… 50 should mentor him… or do a joint venture with TDE for Q next project like he did back in the day with Lil Scrappy…
And on some real shit as one of the Kings of N.Y. 50 gotta have his J Cole or Drake… Kidd Kidd is cool he is talented and all but he is not marketable…
