A 17-year-old Liberian male has died and his cause of death has been determined to be the Ebola virus. The village where he died, Nedowein Village, has been quarantined by Liberian officials, BBC reports. It was not determined to he died from Ebola complications until after his death on Sunday (June 28). How he contracted the virus is being investigated.
“We have said over and over again that there was possibility that there could be a resurgence of the virus in Liberia, but our surveillance team, our capacity is very strong,” said deputy health minister Tolbert Nyenshaw. “The only complication is that the person died before we tested the body as part of our surveillance system.”
His untimely death comes seven weeks after Liberia was declared Ebola free. His body has already been buried to ensure that the virus does not spread.
