(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn, like many cities across the country, has been experiencing an economic and demographic shift over the last decade.
Despite the changes, the home of The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z, Big Daddy Kane, and other rap stars is still a hotbed for Hip Hop.
Wes Jackson’s Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival is a perfect example of the New York borough’s embrace of the culture. This year’s event saw Nas, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, and more hit the stage at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
AllHipHop.com spoke with BHFF’s executive director about the changing residents and businesses in BK.
“You can talk about gentrification – and I like to call them invaders – people who want to make the new Brooklyn, want to push all of us out, want to make it racially and socially economically different – there are those bad guys,” says Jackson. “But again, but there are good guys.”
He added, “[The Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation] go out of their way and fight the fight with the community for us. There’s good people in there, so I don’t worry about gentrification.”
