(AllHipHop News) Donald Trump is still facing heavy criticism for his proposed immigration policies, including the controversial travel ban for seven Muslim-majority countries.
Thousands of people gathered in New York City’s Times Square on Sunday for the “I Am A Muslim Too” rally.
Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons was one of the notable figures to take part in the protest.
New York mayor Bill de Blasio and award-winning actress Susan Sarandon spoke at the rally as well.
According to reports, representatives from various religious backgrounds as well as civil rights advocates were also among the speakers to address the crowd.
Simmons documented the event on his Instagram page.
“Amazing show of solidarity. Good start. We have work to do,” wrote the Def Jam co-founder on IG.
Last November, Simmons penned an open letter to his friend Trump.
“Remember that if you make a dangerous move, the people will be at your front door – I am sure you heard the 100,000 people who showed up last night in front of your New York City apartment,” expressed Simmons at the time. “The numbers will only grow and they will be in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue every night for four years. And I will be there with them.”
A federal judge issued a nationwide temporary restraining order to halt Trump’s Executive Order calling for the travel ban, and the court decision was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
The Trump Administration is expected to draft a new Executive Order in order to pursue its policy of blocking citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the United States.
