By Kavelle "Kaboom" Christie

Son of Dancehall artist and Shottas, star, Spragga Benz was killed under questionable circumstances late Saturday night in Kingston, Jamaica.

According to police reports, Carlton 'Carlie' Grant Jr., who also appeared in the 2002 Shottas flick, was shot when members of a police party patrol stopped two men on a bicycle along Church Street, Kingston.

Upon approach, one of the men pulled a gun and fired at the police who returned fire. The men took off and after the area was searched, Grant was found suffering from gunshot wounds and a .45 semi-automatic pistol was found in his possession.

The injured Grant was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Spragga Benz, who was on tour in England at the time his 17-year-old son was murdered, returned to the island two days ago.

Spragga Benz is known for his songs like “A1 Lover” and “Oh Yeah” with Foxy Brown and “Turn Me On” featuring Kevin Lyttle.

The popular artist has also worked with a number of rappers, including Pras from the Fugees, Nas, Kardinal Offishall, Bow Wow and others.

According to reports, he has not yet been in touch with the police.

The incident is still under investigation.

WHY ARE THE POLICE WRONG IF THEY RETURNED FIRE AFTER INITIALLY BEING FIRED ON?

According to the information given here the police were just doing their job!  If someone starts a shoot out with police officers and they return fire then how is that "Murder"?
There might be more to this story but with the information provided above the shooting seems justified...

Every other story Ive read there is no mention of the police being fired at. are they just tryna cover their tracks now? who knows, but this type of fockery happens everyday in jamaica we only read about it now because it was spragga son that got shot. Its sad that so many innocent have died before some light gets shed on the corruption of jamaica.

@ BOSS UP

How is the police shooting of someone who shot at them first considered "unlawful"?  Because dude was the son of a famous reggae artist?

According to Websters:

un-law-ful:
1 : not lawful : illegal
2 : not morally right or conventional

When a police shoots and kills someone who BEGINS SHOOTING FIRST---I call that a justifiable shooting!
You telling me that if a cop makes a routine stop and some niggas decide to shoot it out because they're "maybe" riding dirty...the cops are "MURDERERS" because they return fire?

"The police’s Bureau of Special Investigation has been called in to probe the controversial shooting of the 17-year old son of ace deejay, Spragga Benz. Carlton Grant Jr. was allegedly shot and killed by the police late Saturday night, at the intersection of Church and Queen Streets in Downtown Kingston.

The official police report states that he and another man were seen on a bicycle and signaled to stop. On the approach of the police, one of the men (allegedly Grant) pulled a gun and fired at the police. The police fired back and the men ran but Grant was later found with gunshot wounds and a .45 semi-automatic pistol. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Residents are however challenging the police version of the incident, as Eyewitnesses claimed that he had both hands in the air while being approached by the police, and that he was killed in cold blood. Spragga Benz is reportedly overseas but expected to return to Jamaica this week."

Here's the definition of "Murder" from 'Wikipedia' that offers more understanding of what it truly means to "murder" somebody:

"Murder is the unlawful killing of another human person with malice aforethought, as defined in Common Law countries. Murder is generally distinguished from other forms of homicide by the elements of malice aforethought and the lack of lawful justification."

LOL @ Pigs...

I don't categorize the whole police force by the actions of some corrupt officers...in my eyes ONLY CORRUPT OFFICERS ARE PIGS.

In my neighborhood an 8-yr old black girl was abducted, raped & murdered...the case was cold and may have been unsolved if a "DETECTIVE" (aka so-called Pig) hadn't stayed on top of it with some good ass investigating...he refused to let it go unsolved and eventually caught & convicted her "murderer" (dude confessed to the crime)...I knew that lil girl and because of that detective her family got some sort of closure.  The officers/detective who made that possible aren't pigs in my eyes.

The moral of the story is that you can use the cliched term "PIG" to sound down but when good officers are actually protecting you, stopping people from running up in your house & stopping somebody from raping & killing ya moms you'd be happy to see one of those same Officers aka "pigs" so much now would you?

Thanks for your inclusion of another version of the story and AGAIN (as stated 3X previously) ...my comments about the AHH story are only based on the facts provided by the AHH story and i'm sure other facts in will come out as the 'official' story unfolds.

Like i said this happens everyday down there and only becasue its Spraggas son do we get some info on it. If it were a politians son or some other high ranking official the investigation would go further. but I dont think so in this case unfortunatly.

....First off Are you some sort of cop or a member of the law because you seem to really be the advocate for their innocence even though only one side of the story was posted (the cops side of it)....News Flash!! Jamaican cops are known to kill young men from the ghetto just because they might have a an illegal gun on them...the correct procedure is to arrest these people not to take a life. I was not there so I don’t know if he was carrying a gun or not...or even if he did shoot at the officers but from my experience growing up in Jamaica it would be pretty dumb to shoot at a police patrol..in the ghetto.. at "weee" hours in the morn for no reason. That’s asking for a death sentence. I know people that know Carlton Jr "Carlie" personally and that’s not his "MO". This was a smart kid that just did great in school and had a bright future....Here is one eyewitness account of what happened...http://www.soulrebelproductions.com/cms/index.php?news=443

Jamaica is not as horrible as you make it seem so stop it....Yes there are people who are poor and hungry just like any other country including the US but not all parts of Jamaica are the same....Its a beautiful Island filled with hospitable people depending on where you go...its just that there are some dominant criminal elements there that make it seems as if the entire country is a shooting gallery. Its just like any state or major city in America, you will know where to go and and where not to go.. I live in South Florida and I wouldnt be caught dead chillin at 3am in certain parts of Carol City even if they were giving away free high octane gas ( gas = the new substitute for something very valuable) .....If you know where the trouble is stay away from it....STOP painting a bad picture of the entire country.

You obviously haven't read my comments thoroughly because if you had you'd know that I was commenting on (as stated 3,4,5,6X now) JUST THE FACTS GIVEN IN THE AHH ARTICLE...

and in fact DID MENTION JAMAICA POLITICS (which includs law enforcement) IS KNOWN FOR BEING CORRUPT ...

If anything my view was non-partisan (or objective) in stating that the entire facts of this story could paint a different picture BUT if someone shoots @ police and wind up being fatally wounded then I don't consider it murder!

There are police who do good works and police who are corrupt or "PIGS"...I don't jump on the band-wagon thinking that ALL police are pigs or bad just because that's popular!

And since I answered your question lemme ask you one...were you there when the youth got killed???

I wasn't there and I doubt you were either so right now all either one of us has is whatever 'accounts' are documented and speculation.

I get what your saying..But im the opposite..People aways paint such a great picture about Jamaica, and it really is not a great as you would think...Just at that AIRPORT alone its a good chance of a person getting hurt..The people are always begging, they steal your luggage, the service is horrible, streets are not paved, with no traffic signs, one can drive in any direction and risk killing themselves the Country is totally out of control..
The people can be very sexiest- You ask for help at the airport the male staff look at you like is strange to help out another man.. Point is they don't cater to other people well..Its all about My Country this, My Country that"....In my opinion Jamaica is in very bad shape..

Thats what I stated before so read my post...but beyond all the bickering its just the norm for "corrupt" Jamaican cops to implicate people who they think are criminals shoot them a couple times point blank and then throw them in the back of the patrol jeep/car and then take to the hospital to be pronounced dead. Its an everyday thing for them to do that in the crime ridden areas of Kingston also known as the garrisons. Most times its not the regular police that does this..there are specials units that patrol these areas and they are the ones with the "take no prisoners" mentality....not all Jamican cops are corrupt.

I will disregard the slick comment and answer the question:

That statement you mentioned came from FACT...unless you believe that all black men who are arrested/detained are innocent and just being harassed??? I meant exactly what I said---->

Sometimes when niggas get caught by police it's because they actually committed a crime...not because police are just pigs out to get every black person in the community.

That comment was in response to the general consensus that everytime a black man/woman has an incident with the police there seems to be an automatic assumption that the cops are just "fucking with people" again...

I wasn't "insinuating" anything at all...I still maintain that in THIS particular case I do not know all of the true facts so I can't make any assumption...only comment on what the article has given.

I don’t know if you are black or white but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter but I can say that I am a proud black man. I can tell you from experience not from television or jumping on the bandwagon that cops love fucking with black people. That is their opportunity to either get an easy ticket, get browny points for arresting the most people this month which can lead to a promotion or simply just for the fuck of it. I am not a cop so I couldn’t tell you why they do it so maybe you can answer that instead of me. I am not being stereotypical I am only being real and telling you from experience.  I was pretty young when I came to this country but also very naive to think that cops are very nice people and I used to get mad at my cousins when they would get all hateful and defensive when they see a cop. but after so many years living here believe me when I say that there is some hidden/invisible rule that all cops use to pull over black people instead of white people 9/10 times. Look at the fucking penitentiaries do you think that they are packed with black people because they enjoy been there? or by coincidence? open your eyes man....whether you are black or white open your eyes and look around you. I am not the most innocent person in the world but I don’t wear big baggy jeans, nor chains that I gotta carry in a wheel barrow (not that I am against it) and I have been subjected to police harassment and been arrested for the dumbest things ever. Think about how the system is designed, majority of black men have some sort of strike against them whether its a simple misdemeanor or a serious felony which prohibits them form getting any decent jobs.....we cant get a decent nine to five but we can join that army and get fucked up with a record easily...does that make any fucking sense?

Jamaica has been ver influential in many ways to our global culture..  It seems as if you are bitter in some way over something.  Sure Jamaica has its problems, but so does everywhere.  Did a jamaican Man F**k ur wife or Daughter?  Stop hating on Jamaica, im no expert but i get the feeling the Island of jamaica has a very bright future.  That little tiny place is very special, in my humble opinion.  Just my 2 cents..

I laugh when u say ...... " The people are so poor but they still wear the latest brand name with no food to eat at the end of the day", because jamaicas have a far more nutritiuos diet, and i would argue they are "better" fed  than we are here in  the States.

Well after hearing terrifying stories from my friends who have family from Jamaica....I believe that the police have something to do with it....and that this whole story was fabricated upon....If you rich and live in the islands the poor and other people will hold you for ransom.....

Police down in Jamaica even use machetes to hack at humans whether they are adults or children....My friends cousin had his head sliced open with a machete from some asshole who was attacking a group of kids....of course my friends cousin is no longer alive......google the stats of crime in Jamaica for yourself...

Father KILLED!  Son Killed!!  Now, a Second Son KiLLED!!! They must know who is targeting them.  They must be involved in some sh*t.  If he have any more SONS, I suggests that get the F*ck out of that country.  Daughters too.  They can also be murdered. Killers do not care.
