Kanye Shuffles Release Date; Avoids Showdown With 50

A second showdown between rappers Kanye West and 50 Cent will not take place.

The rapper/producer’s album was originally slated to hit stores in December, the same month 50 Cent is set to release his upcoming album, Before I Self Destruct.

The change of plans was revealed yesterday (Sept. 24) on West’s blog on his official web site, KanyeUniverseCity.com.

West cited a desire for fans to hear his forthcoming album, 808s and Heartbreak "as soon as possible" as the reason for moving the project’s release date up to November.

“I changed my album to November something cause I finished the album and I felt like it..I want yall to hear it as soon as possible,” the entertainer blogged.

The new release date eliminates the possibility of West squaring off against 50 Cent in a battle for the most first week album sales of their respective releases.

West bested the Queens, NY emcee last year in their first ever match up when his album Graduation sold more copies than 50 Cent’s Curtis.

According to reports, West sold 957,000 copies, while 50 Cent moved 691,000 copies during their first week of release after hitting stores the same day on Sept. 11, 2007.

Although West has not locked in a specific November release date for 808s and Heartbreak, 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct is scheduled to arrive in stores on Dec. 9.

i dont get it, record sales shows how much better an artist is? i play alot of music from artist who wont even push over 40,000 compies and yet i like their music more than most commercial rappers. its as if hip hop turned into a music sale war. with computers allowing you to download music for free i dont think record sales matter anymore. do you really think helktah skeltah, b-real from cypress hill, dj muggs & planet aisa are going to have big record sales? does that mean they albums wont be just as good?

shit i rather wait for their albums to drop compared to 50 cents, kanye, and dr dre detox. i dont give a blue meanie holy batman fuck if you only sell 20 copies. if your shit is hot and a banger im going to listen to it. shit i got a whole list of rappers i listen to when im in my car "not standing at the bus stop with the ipod clique" who dont sell major copies. so fuck this "he will sell more shit" as long as i can get the shit for free off limewire i can give a fuck if that person sold 20 million copies.

Interestingly enough.I dont blame the recession on poor music sales.Sales been dropping for a while now and think about it, movie sales remain strong and thats more money for less replay revalue(i.e a one time show). The quality dropped in main stream music in conjunction with the emergence of online downloading and ringtones.

^^That's a lie.  Kanye beat him in AMERIKKKA, but not OVERALL.  Why you think 50 was so confident to say he would quit rappin' if Kanye outsold him overall?  He was in stores overseas that Kanye wasn't even sold in, it was inevitable, Kayne didn't even have as many units out internationally.

*face cringes* as much as I hate to say it....Kanye won the battle, but not the war.

Record sales, pretty much just say how much a company can and will invest in it's artist. Thise rappers company investment would be lower. Look @ it like that. because thats really all record sales are a company's nest egg. think about majority rappers who dont sell on their FIRST album where are they now? (SHAWTY LO---30k?)

Think about Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt.  Illmatic sold like 100,000 when it first came out yet most music fans agree that it is a classic.  Niggaz wasn't checkin' for Jay @ all and look at dude now.  Sayin' that so-in-so is better based solely on record sales is bullshit.   Think of all the garbage that went platinum.  We didn't buy that shit......suburbia did.  50 has always been garbage imo.  GRODT was hot, but that was because Dre was more heavily involved.  Everything since has been doo doo.  Ye' has been consistent since day 1.  50 don't want to do that again.

If Kanye puts his album out the same day as 50 again, he is going to lose album sales the same way he did last time. 957,000 copies sold in a week? How close is that to a million?? he only needed 43,000 more sales and if 50 didn't take that from him, what did? Graduation had great singles and was an overall great album. Kanye just wants to press his luck and see what is goin to happen this go round. Can't Hate on em for that

naw, i'm tired of the fuckery too.  I've never liked it.  I was cool when T-Pain was the only one who did it... I just didn't listen to him.  But now it's out of control.  Kanye and Weezy don't need gimmicks, they have skills.  Some of these other rappers, on the other hand, better hope fans never get tired of weak lyrics and sci-fi voices.

    (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Been trying to tell mufuckas this for the longest..it didn't matter who sold the most units in the first wk..the mere fact that folks brought into it made both dudes winners....yalll think fif lost or took an L becuz his shit sold less...hell no..music sales actually don't mean a damn thing...when someone can sell 119K their first wk and be the number one album in the country, u know its bullshit...Kanye had a better album..no doubt...and probably will this time too..but the record sales wont determine it...the quality of music will...shit..i got some Homeboy Sandman in the pod right now...been bumping some serious bootcamp cliq shit....these dudes aint running around worrying about first wk sales....they worrying about putting out that heat...yall really need to get off this shit..
