Barneys Cancels Jay Z Event Originally Planned To Kick Off Partnership

THE JAY Z/BARNEYS COLLECTION IS A GO; A PARTY PLANNED TO CELEBRATE THE DEAL IS NOT

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z may be going ahead with his exclusive apparel line with Barneys New York, but apparently the new partnership is not one for a celebratory party anymore. The Daily News is reporting that the high-end retail store has scrubbed their planned charity event for Jay’s Shawn Carter Foundation.

Barneys issued a statement that read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the event has been canceled.”

The store came under fire after two separate African American customers accused the retailer of racially profiling them for buying expensive items. Calls for Jay Z to end his ties with Barneys came soon after the news broke, but the Brooklyn mogul announced recently that he will continue on with his holiday collection with 100% of the proceeds now going to his nonprofit organization.

The “Empire State of Mind” rapper also plans to take on leadership role on a council reviewing the customer profiling policies at Barneys.
