Atlanta, Georgia is constantly producing new musical talent to add onto the list of notable acts that have risen from the Southern city. One of the latest young emcees to represent for the ATL’s eastside is Phonic.
The 21-year-old Decatur native is making waves in his hometown as a member of the All Black Congress collective. In 2012, the tight-knit family of emcees and producers began waving the ABC flag as Phonic, T. Mason, Shinobi X, and Quent Eastwood formed together outside of music. Since that time, the crew has released several efforts including Phonic’s Saturday Morning Blues mixtape.
Phonic is now on the verge of dropping the follow-up to his freshman project. Next March will see the arrival of 12 original songs in the form of Thoughts Of Whatever.
The new generation disciple of the Dungeon Family sound plans to use the collection to present his artistic and personal journey from the last two years. Listeners can expect Phonic’s Thoughts to present compelling storytelling, vivid imagery, and a Trap-free soundscape that he enjoys hearing “in the back of a Cadillac rolling through Five Points.”
AllHipHop.com connected with Phonic for the latest edition of the “Three Questions” series. Get to know the poetic rhymer in this exclusive interview.

When money’s not on your mind, what are you thinking about the most?
Anime, family, and fashion.
What are your Top 5 albums by an Atlanta rapper?
My Top 5 Atlanta albums would have to be ATLiens from OutKast, Back For The First Time from Ludacris, Cee-Lo Green And His Perfect Imperfections from Cee-Lo Green, Trap Muzik from T.I., and Dirty South Classics from Goodie Mob.
What separates Phonic from all the other ATL rappers on the come up?
The sound. I feel like Atlanta is having a very successful run in Hip Hop with influencing the Trap movement, with everybody wanting to be the next “dope boy moving weight.” That’s fine, but I’ve always felt like there needs to be something else. Hip Hop receives it from other states, but Atlanta hasn’t moved yet. I’m looking to move things, introduce the world to Phonic as well as All Black Congress.
