Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin made a rare public appearance together at the New York Public Library last Friday (October 14), where they discussed the history of legendary record label Def
Jam Recordings.
The pair went through the history of Def Jam Records, which was founded in 1984 in Rick Rubin’s college dorm room at New York University.
The iconic labels history is the focus of a new book by Bill Adler titled “Def Jam Records: The First 25 Years of the Last Great Record Label.”
The evening consisted of a barefoot Rick Rubin on the Stage with Russell Simmons.
The legendary label executives recounted the early days of the label and how they signed such artists as LL Cool J, The Beastie Boys and Public Enemy, amongst others.
