The Chicago music scene is as prolific as it is diverse. After Chance The Rapper’s mixtape of the year candidate release Acid Rap comes an equally as impressive effort from former Kids These Days member, Nico Segal (as Donnie Trumpet).
The producer/trumpet, currently on tour with Frank Ocean, swings from an electrco upbeat “New Bissnesss” to an beautiful minimalism of “Players Holiday” with sonic ease. The album also enlists Chance The Rapper (Zion) and former Kids These Days bandmember Vic Mensa (Callie, Don’t Leave, Zion, Passadena, That’s My Baby Interlude) for assists who work wonderfully with the tone of the EP.
No official word on any future or current collaborations with current tour mate Frank Ocean. But by hearing songs such as “Players Holiday” and “Callie”, it’s strikingly apparent that he possesses a myriad of production skils that sound like he could craft Channel Orange 2 (again, no official word). such
