(AllHipHop News) Two of the leading crews in Hip Hop at the moment are Shady Records’ Slaughterhouse and Top Dawg Entertainment’s Black Hippy. Both collectives made waves during last year’s BET Hip Hop Awards Cyphers, and SH members Joe Budden and Joell Ortiz were among the emcees who responded on wax to BH member Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse.

Some rap fans have wondered what would happen if Slaughterhouse (Budden, Ortiz, Royce da 5’9″, Crooked I) faced off against Black Hippy (Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul) in a head-to-head rap battle. Slaughterhouse spoke on the hypothetical contest on RapFix Live. According to Crooked, his team would come out on top.
“Let me tell you something, that’s not a shot, because I really appreciate what they do,” said Crooked. “But as a rapper, I feel like I’m supposed to believe that. When I get on the court, nobody could see me. That’s just what I’m supposed to do. But that doesn’t stop me from being a fan of other great lyricists.”
Royce feels that the match would not pair up easily. His perspective is that the two groups take different approaches to their rapping styles and the winner would be decided mostly on the preference of the judges.
“I don’t think that we’re in the same lane,” added Royce. “I think that we get compared to them because we’re crews. But I’m not so sure that me and Schoolboy could really go at each other, with what he does, versus what I do. It’s not really the same thing.”
Slaughterhouse is teaming with Shady boss Eminem for a rap battle competition featuring some of the stand out names on the circuit. The “Total Slaughter” tournament includes Math Hoffa, Arsonal, Dizaster, Daylyt, Big T, Marvwon, Aye Verb, and Cortez.
